2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ Pacers – You Go Your Way, and I’ll Go Mine

The Knicks head to Indiana to take on the Pacers, who are the #4 seed behind the Knicks, but the Knicks have a healthy four game advantage on them in the loss column, but a win tonight would be nice to make sure that the Pacers know that the Knicks will go their way with the top of the conference, and the Pacers can go trek around in the muck with the rest of the conference.

Let’s go, Knicks!

58 would still be great!

Haliburton is one of the few players in the NBA that generates a negative physical reaction from me just by seeing his face. Reggie was like that too.

That’s funny, Strat. I started out loving Hali, but he’s slowly morphing into a villain to me, as well.

seems like we wanted to come out and make a statement…but with achoowa in your starting lineup…there’s a hard ceiling there…

Oh good Huk is the first sub off the bench to replace KAT, this will definitely get the offense humming now….

Huk! Now we make our run…

I’m presuming you’re not being facetious, BBA…

From now on if any regular Knicks starter is missing I should probably just not watch the game to save myself aggravation…

I love that Precious is a good FT shooter, because it’s good for us, of course, but also because opposing fans get super excited for seeing a big on the FT line and then he makes both.

Thibs needs to get a technical over this refereeing. I know he doesn’t get techs, but it’s time.

Precious came into tonight shooting 60% from the FT line.

Well, it’s eye test only, then. 😀 Whenever i see him at the FT line he makes both. Or at least when i pay attention. 😛

Hey cyber, were you a fan of Maria Teresa Horta? Is her death a big deal there?

Oops, i have to say i don’t know who she is.

Get Shamet back out there. That Brunson is painful to watch…

Never mind…

Josh with the futbol move there

And yeah, that Precious layup attempt was fubar

I think in this case “ball don’t lie”

Giving the Pacers crowd kudos for being boisterously partisan and really loud. No “Let’s go Knicks!” chants there.

Precious played 20 mins in the 1st half mainly to cover Siakam who torched him, please more Deuce instead in the 2nd half. Only 10 mins for Deuce in the 1st half is a travesty considering how great he played.

I would’ve given you props Z-man if you could’ve somehow included a Deuce West Virginia pun!

It’s funny that the KAT trade was controversial because without it our season would’ve been over weeks ago

It’s funny how it’s clear immediately when Payne’s three pointers are off.

“It’s funny that the KAT trade was controversial because without it our season would’ve been over weeks ago”

Okay troll.

“Thank god for the Pacers shitty defense, the paint is w-i-i-de open”

Sadly, for both teams…

Okay troll.

Wasn’t trying to be remotely controversial? Does anyone actually deny what I said?

How the fuck does Philly lose at home against Toronto even with their “Big 3” all playing?

I remember that Kenny Sky Walker dunk contest. Clyde Drexler said something like Kenny Wakler has gone where no man has gone before….

“Wasn’t trying to be remotely controversial? Does anyone actually deny what I said?”

It’s a dumb statement. You are better than that.

I assure you, I am not “better than” believing this season would’ve long since stopped being meaningful absent the KAT trade. I fully believe it due to a wide variety of quantitative and qualitative data.

“I assure you, I am not “better than” believing this season would’ve long since stopped being meaningful absent the KAT trade. I fully believe it due to a wide variety of quantitative and qualitative data.”

You are talking out of your ass. Please stop.

I really had no idea it was controversial to say we’d be in much worse shape without an all-star starter and all-NBA 1st team candidate! TIL.

Was worried when KAT went to the bench but a great finish to the 3rd quarter by the Knicks.

Blonde on Blonde. Maybe his finest album. I might lean slightly to Bringing It All Back Home, but Blonde on Blonde is a real contender.

Who cares who I am anyway. But I cannot tell you how much I adore the Knicks extending the lead to ten points, closing the 3rd period, with the majestic lineup of McBride, Precious, Shamet, and who else?

Glorious.

“I really had no idea it was controversial to say we’d be in much worse shape without an all-star starter and all-NBA 1st team candidate! TIL.”

You mean like the guy we traded for him was just after you called him the most detrimental player in the NBA whose contract was destined to be an albatross?

How the fuck does Philly lose at home against Toronto even with their “Big 3” all playing?

It’s a mystery wrapped inside an enigma. 😉

I don’t believe Randle ever got either of those accolades actually but regardless, trade seems to have been very beneficial for us

If Towns didn’t have a big game with Turner out I would have really started worrying. Now finish the job.

philly probably should have asked paul george if he was about to become andrew wiggins

What does the mess in Philly do to Morey’s overrated reputation?

Embiid and George could both be walking dead and both are on huge long contracts.

It was pretty incredible how KAT was able to beat the shot clock buzzer with that layup.

“trade seems to have been very beneficial for us”

But that’s not what you said, is it? As a stickler for being quoted verbatim, you should know that. Here are your exact words:

“…without it our season would’ve been over weeks ago”

…which is a preposterous statement, and one for which there is no evidence….especially because it is unknowable how well either Julius or DDV would have played here, or whether either or both of them would have been packaged in a different trade, or whether the protected pick and another asset would have been used to pick up another good rotation player, possibly a decent defensive C.

Someone tell Thibs we are on a B2B and a few of our players are nursing problems. Sociopaths need to be reminded as we get closer to the end.

Yeah I mean I maintain that without KAT we’d have been out of the running to do anything interesting a while ago, likely prior to 2025.

There should be a report Hart might need knee surgery every day!

I have to say this has been a very impressive performance by the Knicks especially with Brunson playing arguably his worst game of the season.

Wait, Jalen Brunson is back in with 4 minutes to go and the bench pulling away?

Knicks now have clinched tiebreaker vs both Indiana and Milwaukee, think its safe to assume Knicks won’t be dropping out of the 3rd seed.

We all feel what we feel about the Knicks but I might be feeling some things about the Pacers if I were a Pacers fan right about now

Yeah I mean I maintain that without KAT we’d have been out of the running to do anything interesting a while ago, likely prior to 2025.

The trade has definitely been great for us but I kind of agree that this is a rather wild statement. Even if you transferred Randle & Donte’s exact performances in Minnesota to New York (and there’s no reason to do that) we’d probably be like 5th in the East instead of 3rd.

No team with Jalen Brunson on it is going to be out of the running by Christmas.

And Early Bird made a great point the other day: if Julius Randle were playing Center in NY surrounded by Brunson, Donte, Bridges, and OG, he’d probably be having a pretty great offensive season.

I think the Pacers might just not be good at all, honestly.

It was still an excellent win for the Knicks, don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking the Knicks at all for this win, but more that I just don’t think the Pacers are that good.

“Yeah I mean I maintain that without KAT we’d have been out of the running to do anything interesting a while ago, likely prior to 2025.”

You can maintain anything you want to, so long as you understand that it is complete speculation, or even worse, it assumes negative things from all of Randle, DDV, and Leon. Frankly, it’s the kind of thing that E would say, but in reverse.

I mean being 35-18 instead of 28-24 is a pretty big difference (Bucks currently 5th in East with a 28-24 record).

We are better than the Pacers, but I don’t think Towns would have had such a great game if they had Turner. I’m just glad we got a good win on the road because tomorrow would have been hell if we lost. The Hawks tend to give us trouble. Hopefully we’ll be ready for them on a B2B.

I mean being 35-18 instead of 28-24 is a pretty big difference (Bucks currently 5th in East with a 28-24 record).

Yeah but he pretty strongly stated we’d have been out of the running before Jan 1. That’s Philadelphia 76ers territory. I’m sorry but I can’t fathom a Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart, OG Anunoby, Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and Deuce McBride team coached by Thibs being 20-33. That just seems impossible to me.

“Even if you transferred Randle & Donte’s exact performances in Minnesota to New York (and there’s no reason to do that) we’d probably be like 5th in the East instead of 3rd.”

Sure, but why would you do that? Those two guys had great chemistry here, only to be blindsided by the trade. Randle came back at full health and has been adapting to a much different role, and DDV was banged up and got off to a bad start but was shooting much better before he got hurt again.

The most dubious assumption here is that Leon wouldn’t have found some sort of reasonable replacement for iHart.

Then you are running out a starting lineup of (pencil in C) Randle, OG, Mikal, and Brunson, with Hart, DDV, Deuce and Precious off the bench. I don’t see how that team would be “out of the running to do anything interesting,” and that’s without even considering the return or Mitch.

It’s a take that reeks of personal bias, again, the kind we are used to getting on a regular basis from E.

The most dubious assumption here is that Leon wouldn’t have found some sort of reasonable replacement for iHart.

I find that to be reasonable, actually. There just weren’t many available. None of the other teams desperate for centers were able to get help. Look at the cost of Mark Williams before the trade was rescinded. We didn’t have that kind of ammo.

“I find that to be reasonable, actually. None of the other teams desperate for centers were able to get help. Look at the cost of Mark Williams before the trade was rescinded. We didn’t have that kind of ammo.”

In January, Nick Richards and a second was traded for Josh Okogie and two seconds.

Meanwhile the Lakers were not expecting to be trading for a C until the Gift from Heaven fell into their laps at the 11th hour. Totally different situation than Leon was in before the season started. They tried to pull a Mikal Bridges-style overpay at the last minute but it didn’t work.

I saw Okafor play in Westchester on New Year’s Day (when Kolek pulled double-duty.) He looked pretty good, and seemed to be in great shape. Maybe he can find some kind of a role as a third C or a backup on a good team.

I mean, in the first place, I don’t remember the KAT being at all controversial in terms of the price that was paid, which was clearly a bargain that no one anticipated would be available. I said at the time (and continue to feel) that KAT is not really my kind of player, largely (but not entirely) because he is an absolutely terrible defensive player.

But before that trade was made, I was fully prepared to go into the season with Mitch (at the time he was projected to be back by December) and whoever Leon could trade for with our remaining assets, including our draft haul, our protected firsts, and our cache seconds. Maybe Deuce would have to be put into a deal, or even DDV, which would have sucked but definitely not a crippling blow. And I would have been shocked (and therefore don’t believe for a second) that the season was destined to be over by January 1 without terrible injury luck. Maybe we’d be less of a “contender” in theory, but being that we’re staring at a second-round match-up with the Celts, I don’t see the point in proclaiming that this team is light years ahead of where it would have been without that trade, at least for this season.

Now we are definitely better positioned for the future, as Randle was due for an extension, but that’s not what we’re discussing here.

But I tell you what, after we beat the Celts in the second round on the back of an all-NBA performance by KAT, I’ll be overjoyed to be in full agreement with this statement.

Props to IQ on a very solid game, especially if he had a lot to do with holding ex-teammate Maxey to 5 points on 9 shots in 34 minutes.

I like what JK47 was watching more than the rest if y’all.

“Most Likely You Go Your Way And I’ll Go Mine” is a banger

I curse Dave Gebroe’s stupid ass face for two things: 1) breaking up the discograffiti dream team, and 2) saying Before the Flood is better than the Last Waltz. But I have to acknowledge Gebroe got one thing right: BtF has a great version of You Go Your Way and I’ll Go Mine. It really does bang.
