Honestly it doesn’t seem complicated why the Bucks do badly against N.Y., Boston and Cleveland. Those are the three top offenses and ones that are significantly better than other teams. Milwaukee doesn’t have the defense to handle them.
I don’t think Milwaukee is as bad as they looked yesterday, just like we aren’t as bad as we looked vs. OKC.
Pacers are 12-3 in their last 15 games.
Couple Notes:
* Brook Lopez guarded OG for most of the game. Usually teams would put their C on Hart if they’re not putting him on KAT.
* The Knicks had OG screen for Brunson a lot, probably in response to the above. OG ended up with 5 screen assists for 11pts, mostly thanks to Brunson and not the screens.
* We played some Hart at the 4, which I don’t remember seeing much since Precious returned but maybe I just haven’t noticed.

they’re surely not, but giannis and lillard are +0.8 per 100 in ~700 minutes together this year. that is a disaster for a top heavy team.
All Hail the Cap, but this from Macri (and it’s Year One!):
‘This was the fourth time this season KAT has scored at least 30 points on 16 or fewer shots, tying him with Clyde and Nate Robinson (!) for fourth place in franchise history behind only Patrick Ewing, Bill Cartwright and John Starks (!!)’
The famously efficient offensive player John Starks!

Yeah, I would think that the goal for them is to not be as top-heavy, but don’t see how to accomplish that beyond some unexpected breakouts. In that sense, so much depends on Kris Middleton returning to some semblance of form, he looked pretty good yesterday.
Middleton is still useful as long as the Bucks can accept that they’re only going to get 12 points per game out of him now. The 20-points-per-game Middleton from 2019-22 is likely gone forever.
The Knicks capped my perfect sports Sunday, Cap did what captains do, showing pride after a brutal loss and leading a bunch of willing guys (and at least an empty shell, where’s December Bridges?) to a good win aganst a terrible defense (the Bucks are a weird team).
Honestly in the last two years I had forgetten how good KAT is on offense with his wide arrays of solutions and his ability to drive to the basket. He’s a truly fantastic offensive player.
Given the circumstances beating the feisty Pistons tonight would be pretty.
One last hail to KAT — one of the things I hadn’t realized was a thing with him is his ability to drive to the basket at least once a game and often more, clearly with dunk in mind, get walled off, and contort his body at the last moment like a monstrous, earth-bound Ja, and lay it in from an odd angle. For a giant it’s a really pretty spectacular and almost unique skill.
Anyone watch Indiana-Cleveland? How did the Cavs blow a 15 point 3rd quarter lead at home that badly?
Sorry I can’t help, I did stop watching the game with the Cavs up by 10… 🙂
As pointed out above, Indiana is making a run lately. I would think they feel disrespected by getting no love on the heels of a EC finals appearance. Definitely not a team to sleep on, and they may have more upside when Nesmith gets back.
Re: KAT
One thing that I love about him, KAT is probably the last american-school player* to effectively and often use the hook shot, in “modern” basketball a weapon usually confined to the european-school players (Jokic, Vucevic, Valanciunas, Nurkic…).
If only Mitch could learn something from him**…
* Sabonis doens’t count for family reasons.
** Huk, being from Europe, has a glimps of it that he needs to refine.
In that sense, so much depends on Kris Middleton returning to some semblance of form, he looked pretty good yesterday.
much like you last night, he only looked good on one end.

ayton
The jump hook was a significant part of Z-man’s lethal post arsenal. Sadly, the jump part eventually stopped working.

Not sure that makes sense to me. Which end did I look good on, and which end did I not look good on?
Ayton who? 😉
I’m joking PT, good call, in the last two years he’s totally disappeared from my radar for no good reason…
I was a big Hartenstein fan and hated loosing him more than most but I’m sort of looking at it now as a blessing because it lead us dodging a bullet with Randle’s extension + KAT who is unquestionably an ALL NBA best center in the Eastern Conference this year.
I continue to be lukewarm on KAT due to his defense, but the offense and rebounding have been first-team all-NBA level without a doubt. The passing has been a real positive as well. I like Julius and DDV as much as anyone, but still am shocked that Minny did that deal rather than either waiting or coming up with a better way to save money.
I still worry that better defenses (CLE, BOS) can neutralize him somewhat and that his defensive issues are compounded by how often he trails the play getting back because he’s picking himself out of photographer’s row, but there aren’t a whole lot of guys I’d trade him straight up for right now.
“much like you last night, he only looked good on one end.”
One good blowout deserves another…
Hopefully the Knicks won’t get hosed by the refs tonight, that would be just too weird…
Again……. 🙂
you think winona steals from people’s homes…
gotta figure if thievery is a big enough buzz for her to engage in such reckless behavior – i bet she would definitely swipe some sunglasses, jewelry, something while visiting somebody’s home…
some people just can’t help themselves you know…
Edey and Clingan are notable hookers. (Since our president-elect thinks Canada is the 51st state, I took the liberty of counting Edey as American.)
They’re hookers? I had no idea.
Would be nice if Mikal is able to at least slow down Cade tonight and make us feel good about slighlty overpaying for him. Both Cade and Malik torched us last time.
“@jledwardsiii.bsky.social
Jalen Brunson is questionable for tonight’s game after hurting his shoulder yesterday in a 44-point effort.”
That was 100 percent predictable.
We all know “questionable” means he’s going to play 39 minutes
was kind of hoping KAT might sit out tonight…
Ideally, we’d be able to get through a stretch where one of KAT or Brunson is out, and then the other, but they’re both dinged up at the same time. Thibs will never do it, but it might be worth just sitting them both for the next two games, and letting them get well ahead of a Minnesota game that KAT’s not missing unless he can’t physically stand.
Guys, if they would just be up 57 points in the 4th, they could sit the last 2:17. It’s really their own fault they play this much.
There was one play yesterday where I noticed that and was wondering how much that contributes negatively to his defense. I wonder if anyone keeps that stat. They probably do and if not the should. Falling on the ground after your shot is not a plus unless you are getting a lot of foul calls, but Towns can’t get an even break on foul calls.
I’m at the point where I’n hoping 2 out of 3 of Brunson, Payne and Deuce are out some night just so I can see Kolek play extended minutes against NBA players. Then again if even one of them is healthy, Thibs would probably play him 48 minutes or use Bridges/Hart as PG instead.
I remember reading somewhere that big men are thought to fall down when going to the basket and taking contact. Not for foul baiting, but for preserving their bodies. I think Mitch was saying that but I’m not sure.
^^^^^ This is QUESTIONABLE! 🤭
Your “slightly” was on the wrong place.
Nice one, Cyber.
The worst ‘falling-downer’ I ever saw was Mudiay. He would literally swoon and pass out after every shot.
I’ve given KAT some glow here today, but at least twice last night I watched him watching Dame go right past after Dame beat his man. I know we don’t want KAT in foul trouble, but he could have at least shuffled his feet a bit. He was there as help — maybe at least yell “Help!” to let someone else know what’s happening…
If he was smart he’d forget Canada because they would tend to vote against republicans and be a huge block of new electoral votes.
He should push for Greenland’s independence.
Once that occurs he can sign a huge deal with the new government to take over Greenland’s defense (from Denmark) in exchange for the US right to develop rare earth minerals and oil/gas reserves. The new government and people of Greenland would get an x% long term royalty on the value developed.
The end result would be the US having a strong military presence in a very important strategic location for our defense (which our military desperately wants), US companies get access to the oil and gas (which they want), The US gets access to critical rare earth minerals (which we desperately need) that China dominates now and Russia will also gain once they finish winning the strategic parts of Ukraine.
Most important is that 50k-60K Greenlanders will get richer than they can imagine now and the new government will have more money than it knows what to do with.
What Denmark get out of this I don’t know, but a y% royalty is possible.
This is a much better deal than the Mikal trade!
I can’t imagine Greenland needs help from the US to say yes to oil companies throwing gobs of money at them.
Obviously great for US if we can extract their resources, but if Greenland wanted to extract the resources they’d already have a deal in place.
Trump thinks that they’re too stupid to know how to get a deal in place. As we all know, only *he* knows how to fix things.
Yeah…but not as good as the Brunson acquisition. Why not just offer them $10M cash for each citizen + both US & EU passports and let them vote for it. Can’t see a family of 4 vote against $40m. Denmark gets a one-time fee as part of closing cost. The whole thing ends up costing less than $10B.
And he must RAISE his f#@!$&* HANDS!
