2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Pistons: Start a New Streak

The Pistons aren’t pushovers, but the Knicks should win this one.

The Knicks need to get back to a winning streak!

Let’s go, Knicks!

what a wild thread today…like a virtual food fight…

watch out, winona is out there lurking…

i hope the pistons suck worse than the bucks…

She’s short, but leads the league in steals…

Let’s go Knicks!

After four minutes the offense is KAT, JB, Josh and two nicely done mannequins named OG and Mikal…

When Doogie starts uncontrollably naming tall people, I can’t help but think of Bubba’s knowledge of shrimp types in Forrest Gump.

Reminds me of the Guest character in Best In Show talking about nuts… That scene always has me in stitches….

it’s getting harder to see OG’s value at this price…

Giannis went 1-5 against him last night, so that’s something, but yeah he’s been terrible on offense

it’s getting harder to see OG’s value at this price…

E was on the right side of history on this one. The January Knicks ran on iHart’s emergence and synergy with JB/OG, not OG himself. OG’s fallen off on both ends this year.

I’m convinced it’s the hop that let’s Deuce shoot threes accurately.

OG has to toss up more goal tends.

He’s had trouble finishing in non dunk situations all along. That’s an area I was hoping he’d improve on in the offseason. There was a stretch he looked better that made me optimistic, but he’s back to where he was. His handle and finish are still a weakness. You want him shooting corner 3s, cutting, and leaking out. You don’t want him dribbling and trying to create.

Maybe the common denominator in our struggles is young athletic players/teams.

getting torched by malik beasley. . .can this team be serious for a couple games in a row?

It’s a bad sign when your team has its most aggressive offseason in your lifetime and you’re still jealous the Pistons got Malik Beasley

Hope Towns is OK. This pistons team is frisky but Beasley has been Beastly tonight.

Payne bringing the Pain!!!!

Cam’s volcano minutes should crash opposing teams’ will… just like his arctic minutes do to ours 😁

Harris getting away with a full blown shove and still missing the warm up jumper is iconic

All complaints aside it really was a great 2nd quarter and pretty thrilled to have a halftime lead considering how awful the 1st quarter was.

I don’t see it with OG. His offensive game is very limited and his defense is better than average but don’t think it is great. Limited and overpaid. He seems worse than old RJ at driving to the hoop and getting blocked.

Bridges is similar but better at O and worse on D.

I feel like the Knicks need a true power forward. OG at PF isn’t a great fit with his lack of rebounding.

I am not a doctor, but it does not seem like KAT should be playing professional basketball right now (even though he’s doing so admirably)

Just let KAT keep playing. He has nine more digits. Don’t know what he’s whining about.

I realize Mikal was 4-5 on 3s but that last one he missed was a terrible shot. That possession was bad.

OG doesn’t have bad hands as much as his moves are predictable and mechanical, making it easy to get him discombobulated.

KAT looks more and more like Monty Python’s black knight…

LOL! We’ll call it a draw! 😀

Payne’s corner three that hit the backboard was one of the ugliest shot I’ve ever seen 😂

Mackey Sasser probably never shot a basketball in his life and he’d still score all day on this Knicks team.

LOL sack thibs

2nd in 3pt % just leave him wide open it’s all good. it’s a defensive scheme

Brunson and KAT with killing turnovers down the stretch and Beasley just destroyed us…
Terrible loss

I miss our teams the past few years. I just don’t connect with this team. Less grit. Less defense.

Love this sport but, man, it’s so frustrating how arbitrary the outcomes are. KAT’s extra umph on the pick is an offensive foul, Cade’s pushoff isn’t. And that’s the game.

Why were most of Beasley’s 3s wide open today? Wasn’t there a counting report or film before? Mind boggling.

oh wow, we stink at perimeter defense…we are so slow…so short…

no time to blink, ‘nother game on wednesday against the 76’s, away…who knows how we’ll play…

i have a feeling though whoever is shooting for the 76’s will do well behind the arc…

hmmmm, think at some point we’ll see a zone defense again…and again…

Well since Z-man said that the next 30 games will decide our season we are 2-5.

No bueno…

Per JK47 on 1/11:

Every game, if you look at the boxscore, you’ll see that the opponents give roughly twice as many minutes to their bench than the Knicks. It’s remarkably consistent. Even bad teams manage to find minutes for 9th and 10th guys, and sometimes beat us.

Yep.

It’s a back to back, we should have been tired at the end of the game, instead it was the sleepy start of both halves that fucked us.

Too many games where we’re not ready in the first quarter, too many games we have to run uphill.

Who the fuck does Beasley think he is? Shut the fuck man. You have no skill other than jacking up 3s, which in todays soft ass, joke of a league is all you need. Knicks can’t keep letting these scrubs disrespect you on your home floor.

The referees were a big part of the game. I don’t think they were the main reason we lost (Towns non-existent D on pick and roll and the interior is a major problem now) but that was awful. So many terrible calls. A ref at 69 is still allowed to call a game? That woman ref called everything for the Pistons. Scott Foster? Enough said.

The defense is officially a problem. We cannot defend the pick and roll anymore. And these terrible 3s opponents are hitting need to stop. There are some awful shots going in. Come on

What can you say after that one?

Bad loss. B2B at home is no excuse.

We know all the issues, but I’m also starting to dislike the way Brunson is playing. He’s in “do everything” mode way too often and it’s killing the ball and player movement that made our offense so attractive earlier in the season. I don’t care what his individual stat line says, he’s playing the wrong way with this much talent in the starting lineup.

It’s January against the Pistons and Thibs played Towns 43 minutes!

Would it shock anyone if we find out he played through a fractured finger?

I want to amend my view that Thibs is probably on the spectrum to Thibs is some kind of combo sociopath/masochist. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to enjoy rooting for a team with that man coaching. There’s something wrong with him.

Tough to win when you play serious defense for about a quarter and a half, and kindergarten defense the rest of the time.

The defense is officially a problem. We cannot defend the pick and roll anymore.

We very rarely did! Pick and roll, POA, rim protection, etc. The Knicks defense was problematic from game one. I can remember good quarters and good halves, but it’s tough to recall a good full-game defense this season.

That Connor McDavid goal assisted by Leon Draisaitl did wonders in daily fantasy NHL tonight. 🙂

The middling Pistons played their bench 89 minutes. I ain’t ever even heard of half the guys they were running out there.

We played our bench 42 minutes. Couldn’t make a run at the end. Same old story. Thibs tried to brute force another regular season win but he’s getting diminishing returns.

At some point, you have to think “bodies” regardless of who they are, are necessary. I mean our bench is trash, but so is every other bench – that’s why they are on the bench.

But when our starters are so gassed/banged-up they can’t compete with the bench 10,11,12 stringers… Thibs just don’t think that way, it’s revolting…

“The middling Pistons played their bench 89 minutes. I ain’t ever even heard of half the guys they were running out there.”

Simone Fontecchio
Ronald Holland II
Isaiah Stewart
Malik Beasley
Marcus Sasser
Paul Reed
Wendell Moore Jr.

Seriously you’ve never heard of half these guys? I’ve heard of every single one of them. The only one out of all of them that is a rookie is Holland. (And according to the ESPN box score their bench played 92 minutes to our 45, so three more minutes for each team. Point stands, though.)

I mean I’m familiar with Beasley and Stewart and vaguely know about Paul Reed but if you asked me “who does Simone Fontecchio play for” I’d have guessed AC Milan, and I’m still not convinced Wendell Moore Jr is an actual NBA player

Word is OG is not happy with his role on offense. I guess he feels like he’s getting frozen out by the Villanova boys on offense and then has to cover for them on defense all the time. That could be part of why his effort on defense has not been up to the same level it was when he was blocking a lot of shots and stealing/deflecting the ball. He may be tired, but he’s also not happy.

Thibs is solid but he’s not the right man for the job anymore. There is levels to this coaching game.

Would Pat Riley gives us Alec Burks back for Simms + a 2nd round pick? At least we know that Thibs will actually play him for 20 minutes.

Is there anything else other than drop coverage we can play with Towns? All his defending angles are off plus hands don’t come up at all

I love love love that Director spelled Alec Burks’ name correctly, but then……. 🙂

Thibs needs to play Sims again. Precious isn’t getting it done. Play Precious at the 4 next to Towns to give OG a break.

KAT is a bad defender, I don’t think his offense at the 5 is worth his defense. It’ll kill our offense, which is on life support anyway, but we need Mitch at the 5.

Mr. Doggie, think of me as Thibs’ of spelling. Hope this helps you with whatever it is that you’re dealing with.

Mr. Doggie. LOL

It was that you spelled “Sims” with two “m”s as “Simms.” It’s just not correct, is all. I don’t get the analogy with Thibs, though. Do you keep your letters in for too long? I guess that *might* explain the extra letter. :o)

It’s interesting how different coaches fit different teams so, well, differently. I thought Bickerstaff was godawful coaching the Cavs in the playoffs, but it seems like he’s good at developing young guys. Meanwhile, Monty Williams was great with a more veteran team in Phoenix, but couldn’t do anything with the young guys here. Sort of like Larry Brown here, as well, honestly.

Some guys are just probably best suited to coach veteran teams.
