2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ Bulls: There Doesn’t Need to be a Lag

Yes, the Knicks are on the second night of a back-to-back, and they played a lot of minutes against the Oklahoma City Thunder, but I don’t think that is any excuse for them. They need to stomp a mediocre Chicago team tonight. They are in a whole other tier than the Bulls (probably two tiers above them), and they can’t allow themselves to lose this one just because they played last night, even if their starters are going to be pretty tired.

They need this win, and I think there is no reason to doubt that they won’t get it.

Oh, and congrats to Derrick Rose for getting his uniform number retired by the Bulls today!

Let’s go, Knicks! Win #58 will feel great!

The a Captain will play, Deuce is still out.

Let’s Go Knicks! 🏀💙🧡💙🏀

No Deuce Deuce. Dang it.

Anyone know the back story for Rose being such an apparent dick during his first stint with the Knicks? I somehow don’t really expect to hear about that tonight, and have only a hazy memory of it…

You mean the gang rape accusation?

Or the fact he admitted he didn’t know what “consensual sex” means?

Or the “not guilty” voted by a jury that spent time doing selfies with him after the verdict (we LOVE our celebrities!)?

Or that he disappeared without warning before a game, with many worried that he had committed suicide?

No, I don’t think you’ll hear about it tonight 😉

Thanks, Max. All coming back now.

The disappearing before the game bit was truly weird. But whatever.

The Bulls shoot so many 3s that if they are hot it’s going to be a long night.

Uh oh, we might not lose the first quarter if this keeps up…

Of course the Knicks don’t seem too interested in playing defense tonight either.

How was I the only one to see that steal off Brunson coming from 30 feet away?

We need something from the bench tonight…
And just as I wrote it Achiuwa send a pass in the stands…

Interesting unis for the bulls…are those the Derrick rose commemorative threads

I love OG’s defense obviously but he gets burned way too many times helping off the strong side corner 3.

Was going to open with ‘The Landry Shamet Game’ earlier, but Max just said it better.

Won the quarter, though. Uncharted water.

Spoke too soon about Coby White, he’s gonna kill us like he always does

1st ballot Hall of Famer if you only counted his games vs the Knicks

It’s almost as if NBA refs are no longer used to seeing big guys post up so they have no clue how to referee KAT when he’s posting up.

One thing that is very apparent is that we are undersized. Other than KAT, every single person in our rotation is either shorter than average for their respective position or relatively light for his height.

Chicago has already used 10 guys…

And we still have work to do on inbounds (and fastbreaks)…

At this point, you have to assume it’s a performance art thing with Thibs and the minutes.

That might be the first 3 Payne has made in like 5 games. Of course, Vuc is left wide open to counter it, then Hart gifts them another 2.

Bulls have played 11 players but they all mostly suck.

Exactly my point.
Do we think that Buzelis, or Terry, or Phillips are so much better than Kolek?

Knicks go up 9 then immediately give up a wide ass open 3 to Vuj followed by an awful turnover by Hart that leads to a fastbreak dunk…

Max the reason the Bulls are playing all these scrubs is cause they fucking suck. It’s hard enough watching Precious, Payne and Shamet I don’t want to see more guys like them playing.

BBA, we’re on a back to back, all the starters played 40+ minutes yesterday and we miss our two best bench player…

Can’t argue about the Knicks getting the whistles this game…

Good finish to the half, we really should continue to feast on their sieve defense

Can’t complain about being up 9 at halftime but Knicks are developing a habit of missing wide ass open 3s right before endings of quarters.

Feels like every team has shot 45% from deep against the Knicks in the last couple of weeks.

Fun fact: Westchester won tonight… playing an 8-men rotation 😂😂😂

Consistent philosophy in the organization 🤓

Knicks bench last night played a total of 30 mins, in the 1st half tonight they’ve already played 28 mins. Thibs definitely made an adjustment on the 2nd game of a back to back and again that’s with Deuce still out.

KAT really is an exceptional defensive rebounder. He gets 20 like it’s nothing.

To be fair, I think offensive teams don’t crash the boards like they did in the past. Still, he’s very, very impressive.

Ant-Man has 51 with 6 minutes left, including 10-13 from 3. But his team is down 18 to the Pistons.

“If we played our bench players against their bench players, maybe just maybe it would end up in a wash, and our starters could rest” – 29 nba coaches

I watched the Nets-Sixers game before this one and was thinking the same thing…

We better start hitting some threes…

Giddey is shooting less than 31% from 3 but tonight he’s shooting like he’s Larry Bird.

when you are letting giddey go off from 3, you know you are a trash 3 pt defending team (source: he shot 29% in the australian league nbl)

Thank god Pags showed up.

Thibs: “You look tired. Play harder!”

In better news Butler must be laughing his ass off watching the Heat being down 30 at home vs Utah.

Well it’s not every day that you see a team get outscored 21-0 from 3 in a quarter…

Get ready for a significant losing streak and likely injury spiral within the next 2 weeks

I love how Hahn has been talking up how the bench is bringing them back.

Bucks just lost at home vs Portland. They’ve been awful since winning the Cup.

Anyone notice that Cam Payne and Landry Shamet seem like they’d look good living together in a tent under an overpass…

If Towns got injured in the last two minutes of a lost January game I’m going to lose my mind

Guaranteed that Towns will muss time and another starter will go down before he’s back.

It’s really amazing how we just collapse so quickly and yet are zero threat to come back. This is a paper tiger and the rest of the season will just be one long reality check

If Towns is injured for a while, Thibs should be fired. In fact, these last two games have shown Thibs flaws – lack of in-game adjustments, over reliance on starters, and lack of accountability on star players.

Our bench is given almost no time to develop chemistry because of Thibs refusal to let things play out. They can play. But when you only give them 8-12 minutes a game what do you expect them to do?

I’m not sure why no one has come to the coach and tell him off for his fucking stupidity. It’s clear as day the guys have no legs for the 4th with so many minutes and when you run into instances where the starters are ineffective you just…keep playing them?! WTF?!?!

I’m just so frustrated with the coach. In the grand scheme of things it’s just a blip but it’s clear the tiredness of the starters is affecting the wins and losses

It’s not smart, but come on, you’re not going to fire a guy for doing something stupid like this. You just hope he eases up a bit in the future, and learns from this. Plus, I doubt Towns is all that hurt. He looked more uncomfortable than really hurt.

And a classic 1:34-to-go bench dump. Not a single one of the four players even got a shot off. Way to provide in-game experience, Thibs!

If Towns is hurt or not is irrelevant. Hoping Thibs “eases up” is irrational. Short sighted leaders get fired. Thibs is betting a championship contending season to win a quarter in January. Weather his bet pays of or not is irrelevant. He’s showing bad judgment by continously making this same bet.

He has his eccentricities, to be sure, but I don’t think it’s a fireable offense.

I don’t think that this is a fair criticism, but it did make me laugh, at least.

I don’t get why there’s all this doomposting about the Knicks after these 2 games.

As long as they get to play the Magic without their 4 leading scorers in the playoffs, they should be in good shape.

I haven’t been thrilled with Thibs’ coaching all season and this game seems to be a bit of a nadir. When the cascade of injuries begins it’s not going to be pretty.
