Today’s morning news confirms we are in peak clickbait season:
Article Title: Knicks Julius Randle Listed as Rockets Trade Target
Last sentence of article: Ultimately, it’s a deal that’s very unlikely to happen considering the Knicks love Randle and the Rockets are also very happy with Sengun.
Article Title: Analyst Sees Rough Outcome for Knicks Newest Star
Last sentence of article: There’s a chance he may be just what the Knicks needed, but if you’re going to trade what you did for Bridges, a championship has to come with it in order for it to be worth it.
Stuff like that makes me appreciate comments on this blog even more…
+1
So some afterthoughts on the 8/31 Tedeschi Trucks concert at SPAC in Saratoga:
-Turns out that the “seating” part of the venue is entirely sheltered…it’s far more of an indoor venue than outdoor…so the weather wasn’t a factor
-There were two warm-up bands:
–Margo Price-a 40yo country rocker with a pretty good band, not my cup of tea but pretty good for that genre
–Little Feat-I had no idea they were on the card and very much like them and their music, they were awesome and Tedeschi and Trucks came out and did Dixie Chicken with them, was awesome!
–Tedeschi Trucks-as good as advertised, one of those bands that you didn’t have to know any of their songs to love the music. Her voice was the highlight for me, she presents like a school librarian/soccer mom and just wails the sultriest blues tones I’ve ever heard live. I could listen to her sing all night long. Her lead guitar playing was also very, very good…would have been pretty adequate even without Derek.
–Their backup band was top-notch, again one of the best I ever heard live. Drummers (2), horn section (3), back-up singers who all had a solo song and knocked it out of the park (3) and keyboardist who also had solo songs, including Dreams.
–Derek Trucks is truly a savant, maybe the best I’ve seen since Johnny Winter back in the day. crazy what he does with both his left hand and right, with slide and without. Never seen anything like it. That said, some solos were just too long for my liking.
–the concert started at 7:00 and was still going strong at 11:30 when we absolutely had to leave. Nearly 5 hours of loud music is too much for me, so even though we missed the final few songs and likely encore, we felt like we had our fill. I feel that it would have been a better experience without Margo Price and with shorter renditions of more songs. My older sister and husband were overwhelmed and my son was anxious about starting college early the next morning, so that clouded the experience a bit.
Overall, highly recommended, and I definitely want to see TT again, next time with a better game plan and maybe better seats….I spent more time watching the big video screens than the stage.
Loved SPAC and Saratoga. Great space and nice town for a short visit, if a bit touristed up. I suppose Strat knows it better than I (I’ve been to the races, but mainly because you sort of have to… but for me it was mostly about appreciating the hats).
Thanks to everyone yesterday for the great info and suggestions, including TheRant — more posts, dude! (FYI, as a very young lad I had a fantasy of being a bass player in a rock band, for some ungodly reason in my mind’s eye always decked out in the equivalent of a brown monk’s robe with a rope belt — no idea why, raised an athiest… luckily for everyone I have no musical talents and it never came to fruition…).
Fournier signs a 2-year deal with Olympiacos, proving that he is, indeed, cooked.
“(I’ve been to the races, but mainly because you sort of have to… but for me it was mostly about appreciating the hats).”
Funny you mention that, Raven! Yesterday early afternoon we stopped in town for a quick craft beer and decided to go to the track. It was WAAAAAY more fun than I anticipated. Maybe more fun outside the track than inside, only stayed for two races, placed one box exacta bet and won $60, walked the inside (lots of pretty gals in hats and great summer dresses, then walked the grounds…just a fun scene overall…will definitely be back next year when we are actually staying in town and can fully appreciate it with numerous beverages!
Fournier had a hell of an NBA career, and as a Knick he was mostly a good soldier about a tough situation. Nothing but respect for him.
But the “Thibs threw a good player in the doghouse” crowd might want to do some reflection.
I lived about 20 minutes from SPAC and Saratoga Springs. Had some fun times in both spots. The Track was always fun. I was able to go to a few VIP events over the years. I’ve always had good luck meeting people with connections. Same has happened in Nashville as well.
Cyber- I am unimpressed with your compatriot

All in on Wozniacko for David’s sake….
Not going well
Is it TV offseason too?
Alan, there was a really lovely article in the Boston Globe today (won’t bother with the link as I doubt anyone else has access) about how the Rockford Files taught a Black, gay person everything they needed to know about life. A guy who lived in a trailer, struggled to pay bills, distrusted the police. Ah hell, here’s a too-long quote.
“Jim’s father, Rocky, openly expressed his love for his son despite constantly nagging him about finding a more stable (and less dangerous) line of work. That was an important depiction for a queer kid obsessed with the familial disapproval I might face when I finally got the courage to make myself whole.
“Rockford” also gave me my first look at a son coming out to a parent. When a mobster confronts his adult son about his sexuality, the son refuses to lie or pretend that he will live his life any other way. It’s a minor subplot in the episode “Requiem for a Funny Box,” but the fact that an entire scene is devoted to this moment says a lot about what the show’s creators wanted to convey.
In “The Deep Blue Sleep,” Janet MacLachlan played Adrienne Clarke, who owns her own high fashion house. She explains to Jim the barriers she has continued to face even though she’s far from her meager beginnings. “I’m a woman. I’m Black,” she says. “That doesn’t change inside the ghetto or out.”
In 1975, before it had a name, Clarke was talking about misogynoir, a brand of discrimination steeped in racism and sexism. I wasn’t just watching a TV show; I was getting life lessons. “Rockford” was answering questions that I didn’t even know I had.
I also have no doubt that seeing Black people portrayed as CEOs, doctors, police officers, federal agents, bus drivers, musicians, secretaries, and bartenders had a major impact at a time when I was more accustomed to TV dramas that showed people who looked like me only as criminals.
Female characters were fully developed and complex. I relished watching Beth push back and take no mess, especially when she was the only woman in a roomful of hostile men. She — and other women — were never reduced to ornaments or arm candy.
But “Rockford” was also a show about everyday life — taxes, broken kitchen appliances, bill collectors, the cost of groceries, and cops who were mean simply because they could be. (The show generally shunned the kind of cop-aganda still rife in TV crime dramas.) More than an anti-hero, Rockford was both uncommon and completely familiar.”
Edit: Apparently one of the main writers, David Chase, went on the help create “The Sopranos.” Small world.
Re David Chase: there’s an upcoming doc about him and “The Sopranos” on HBO this week. I can only hope it’s just Alan chatting him up for hours on end.
KBA, I am not involved in the doc at all. That said, I watched it, and think it’s good, but it was also a strange experience for me, because I’ve interviewed David so many times, and heard so many of these answers from him so often, that I occasionally found myself saying the words right along with him.
Missed the match, but looking at the score… oof, not his finest hour! 🙁
I’m very curious about the doc, but I won’t be watching it, especially now that you are not involved 😉
Full disclosure: I’ve never seen an episode of “The Sopranos” — ever — and I’m a TV glutton. Don’t shun me, board 😉
For whatever reason, years ago I started the pilot and didn’t get past the bit where he chases the guy with the car.
As time went past I realized I was missing something special bc of the chatter, but that only made me more reluctant to dig in.
Now it’s my white whale, and I’m waiting for “the right” binge holiday to do it.
PS — loved the RS list of best episodes.
We are too busy running victory laps around the “Alec Burks isn’t playing bc he’s unplayable” crowd.
Me too. My #1 is at #13, it’s Twin Peaks season 1 episode 1. It’s so amazing, that it feels more like a movie than an episode of a TV show. I was stunned at the time… when? I don’t know, maybe 1989 or 1990.
From Game of Thrones, there was a lot of great episodes to choose from, but i think i would’ve gone with the episode where the Night King turns Viserion into an Ice Dragon. Maybe the show should’ve ended there and it’d be epic.
One TV show absent from the list, that i have at the top is Dexter. The episode where Dexter finds Rita dead in the bathtub and Harrison covered in blood and crying on the floor was epic to me, and again maybe if the show ended with that episode it would be remembered as a much better show, instead of slowly fading away in the following 4 seasons.
i loved the intro song on the Rockford Files…watched it all the time on late night re-runs, usually i’d fall asleep after that, i don’t remember too much of the show itself…
i know i keep repeating myself on this, but yeah Spartacus: Blood and Sand worked incredibly well for me, in particular i thought the season finale was one of the most “rewarding” pieces of tv in forever…
a great list of all time tv classic episodes…i need to go watch that simpsons one 🙂
maybe we could have lost to the sixers instead of going 1-4 against Indy if we played Burks more
Usually I can’t make it more than 5 minutes with the roommates podcast (boring), but the most recent with Mark Cuban is actually really interesting. Recommend.
