This is your periodic reminder that the best way to deal with a poster whose posting style annoys you is to not respond to them, ever. The more you reply, the more you give them an excuse to keep posting. You cannot change them. You cannot teach them. You can only ignore them.

HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET is now streaming on Peacock. What say you, wise TV man? Go forth and stream?

Oh, I very much say stream. An all-time classic: https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-features/homicide-10-best-episodes-streaming-peacock-1235078483/

The big bummer is that, in order to get it onto streaming, the great majority of the music had to be replaced, and

    Homicide

had one of the best, most eclectic soundtracks of all time: Joan Armatrading, Nine Inch Nails, Belly, Morphine, Buddy Guy, Annie Lennox, Lou Reed, Public Enemy, Los Lobos, etc. I’m grateful I still have the DVD box set, which has all the songs in their proper places.

That is very interesting and a bit intriguing. I assume the replacement had to do with copyright, permissions, etc as to move to another format? I always thought that “old” content streamers aired was exactly the same as the original. I may ask Netflix for a discount because of this.

When the music rights for older shows were negotiated, nobody thought to secure rights in perpetuity for all formats. You have to go back and renegotiate with every single artist. So older shows with lots of music either don’t make it to streaming at all (China Beach, WKRP), or they come to streaming with most or all of the music missing.

I actually submitted a theme song for the upcoming streaming release of China Beach and I think mine won! It’s moving ahead slowly but the last I heard, I got the theme song.

The original theme was “Reflections” by the Supremes. Anyway, whether they use my theme or not, it seems like China Beach will be coming to streaming soon.

    JK with the scoop!

Can I ask what style your submission is in? The original show was so defined by late 60s/early 70s Motown and rock, I’m trying to imagine it without the real things.

It was in the style of “Reflections,” so late 60’s Motown. Instrumental. Not sure what they’re doing for the rest of the music cues. I went for as much period accuracy as possible— hired musicians and did some of it in a proper recording studio.

I don’t think this has been announced in public anywhere yet, so don’t Tweet about it until my check clears, please! 😉

I do pork chops at 140 for 90 minutes, followed by a brief sear in a cast iron skillet. Maybe throw a sprig of rosemary in the bag.

Yep, got to go higher temp with pork. With steak I go as low as my wife lets me. Generally 132.5.

    Congrats on that JK!

God bless the tamale lady on ocean and parkside. That chicken and green sauce….

Fingers crossed, JK! Back in the day that kind of thing made Mike Post rich. TBF he deserved it….

Alan, here in Mongolia my son and I just had a week together and spent 18 hours of it watching the first season of “Lost.” We enjoyed it and are going to find a way to keep going even though I remember a lot of negative buzz around the conclusion. It’s hard to imagine they don’t know what they’re doing, since the writing has been very tight so far – and what a perfectly cast show. I never got Evangeline Lilly until now.

Pachinko is great. (At least, through midway through the second season. I have to finish my screeners when I’m done with vacation.)

Rama, the only thing I will say is that you shouldn’t overly invest in the various mysteries of the island. Some will eventually be answered well, and others… will not. But the character stuff is mostly excellent throughout.

Thanks, Alan. So far it seems pretty clearly structured, an argument between science and faith (that old chestnut), with the point being clear that everyone on that plane was supposed to be there – even fought to be there – because they each have an issue to work through via the particular challenges of the island. The exception is Walt, the magic kid, who didn’t want to be on the plane and clearly has some influence over events – when he wants them to go a certain way, they go a certain way. Thus he and Hurley are opposites, one a victim of fate, the other in some control, with their backgammon game a metaphor for it all, dark against light, Hurley losing every time because Walt can roll whatever he wants.

I’m not sure I see too many layers of allegorical meaning, but that’s fine. The show isn’t interested in exploring ideas in a really deep way, it just wants to entertain and keep you guessing. Which is enough, if it’s done well. I’ll make sure we keep our expectations low – I don’t need the numbers to mean anything, don’t need an explanation for Walt’s magic powers, etc. Just don’t want it to devolve into chaos because they didn’t think through the basics (The Others, the hatch, etc)

hey geo, I happened to wander in to a dispensary in Great Barrington MA and asked whether they had anything geared toward the senior citizen. Wound up walking away with 1/8 of “Acapulco Gold.” It’s like the old stuff on steroids.

Thanks. I trust that it will live up. My buddy is on the team and he’s the best. He’s really proud of it so I have the pleasure of watching in support.

Ps. Titanium noir was a stellar read. I want some.

ha, z-man…truly, at this stage in life, why not get a little high 😊

you are very right about the increased potency…this ain’t cheech and chongs back in the day kind of weed…

what’s nice though is that one or two puffs these should do the trick…

    I like all the “infused” pre-roll stuff…

try to be cautious with any edibles, their potency can be challenging to gauge (probably want to start off with a dosage of under 20 mgs of thc)…

    be safe and enjoy…

congratulations jk, that is so freaking awesome…

so cool that instead of simply getting older and more burnt out at work – you seem to just be getting better…

The MA medecine is top notch, Z-man. Come a long way in short order. Everything is grown in state, three major players. I’m blown away by how ridiculous the roll out in NY has been. I go to the bodega to get cream and guy is tryna sell me prerolls artfully arranged in a hollowed out coconut next to a dancing skeleton with neon green track lighting and dry ice pouring out the coconut.
