Young Toppin had a great game for the Westies!
    FG 10-20, 3P 4-9, FT 3-3, TRB 8, AST 4, TOV 2, STL 1, BLK 2, PTS 30

Walker Kessler returned to action last night after missing a bunch of games with a sprained UCL, coming off the bench. In 21 minutes he scored 11 points on 5-10 shooting including a missed 3PA, had 11 rebounds (6 Offensive) and 2 blocks. The Jazz beat a Zion-less Pels.

Markkanen has been great but Kessler may have been the best thing Ainge got back in the Gobert/Spida deals…

And maybe GrizzliesBlogger are not happy that the Griz FO traded the rights to the 22nd pick used to draft Kessler to the Wolves along with TyTy for the the rights to move up 3 spots to draft Jake LaRavia with the cursed 19th pick and the 45th pick in the 2023 draft.

I know Gobert is great and all, but would they have been better off just drafting Kessler and keeping him and all those picks to use at a different position? They look very legit right now so I’m not insinuating anything, just wondering.

Charlotte should be a bit tougher than last time in the next tournament game. They still have a lot of injuries, but Bridges should be fitter and they should be getting used to playing together again. Now Rozier is back.

Meanwhile, the Mavs are one of the more bizarre teams in the NBA. Last night in a loss to the Clips, Kyrie and Luka combined for 56 points. The rest of the starters combined for 9 points. They were outrebounded 57-37, including 17 offensive for LA

I don’t think we have to worry too much about our pick dropping into the high 20’s low 30’s unless the Mavs make a major upgrade to their roster.

Walker Kessler’s emergence strikes me as a straightforward example of the lack of wisdom in wasting or incinerating first round draft picks, but I guess that’s too “simplistic” or somesuch.

I think you’re right, DRed. Slow, ponderous, back-to-the-basket anachronism, Kessler would be like baby Mitch, half the posters would say he’s a dinosaur and needs to be buried in rock, the other half arguing his numbers are crazy good like Tyson Chandler, and that he’s better than Nowitzki.

Speaking of Nowitzki, watched a few minutes of the Lakers game and the announcers noted that the best pt average at LeBron’s age used to be Nowitzki at like 7 per game. LeBron is averaging 26 or so.

The wife beater had 33 and 10 last night and has been welcomed back to the NBA with welcome arms. MF even got a standing ovation upon his return.

He’s on a one year, $8MM contract, meaning any team in the NBA could trade for him if the Hornets put him on the block (and they would be incredibly wise to do so). He’s probably going to alter the landscape at some point this year.

He’d be a perfect fit in Dallas.

It would be the most Daryl Morey thing ever for him to end up with an Embiid-Maxey-Bridges trio when all is said and done.

I would look out for Indiana, as well. This seems right up their alley.

(For the record, I absolutely do not want the Knicks to trade for him. I wanted him when he was free so we could auction him off now. I don’t want us to actually pay a premium for him.)

“Yeah but you’d hate Kessler if he was on the Knicks”

I’m assuming this trolling post was directed at me and not E. A such, I offer the following rebuttal:

I don’t hate Mitch…far from it! In the last post I specifically mentioned his contract as our second or third most valuable, depending on how one weighs IQ. But unlike some here, I think it’s not blasphemy to recognize his very serious flaws, even if he’s on such a team-friendly contract. Like everyone else, I love the way he beasts on many of the C’s in the NBA. However, I don’t particularly like the way he seems overmatched by the ones we need to go through to get far in the playoffs, like Embiid, KP and Bam.

I think that the Walker Kessler of last year, i.e. the one with the healthy elbow, is a reasonable analog for Mitch and is on an even better contract. Last year as a rookie he was better than Mitch in every statistical category except offensive rebounding, where there was hardly a large gap. Most importantly, he took 30% of his shots from 3-10 feet and made 54% of them…Mitch took 7% of his shots from there and made 33% of them. Kessler’s a lousy FT shooter but at least doesn’t heave line drives at the rim.

So I’m guessing that in theory I would probably like his overall game more than I like Mitch’s…but would find ample things to be annoyed by…sort of like I do with iHart’s overall game. However, I really like all three players on their respective deals…just not head-over-heels about any of them.

Serious question: who do you think other teams would give up more draft capital for in a trade?

“Speaking of Nowitzki, watched a few minutes of the Lakers game and the announcers noted that the best pt average at LeBron’s age used to be Nowitzki at like 7 per game. LeBron is averaging 26 or so.”

According to B-R, Kareem averaged 17.5 ppg at age 39. Karl Malone averaged 20.6 at age 39.

You just wait for RJ’s “but he’s only 39” breakout season.*

*though I’ll take his season to date production in a heartbeat.

“You just wait for RJ’s “but he’s only 39” breakout season.*”

    He’ll average 20 points on 25 shots…

Walker Kessler is very good and would have been a great get.

Unfortunately Utah is a dumpster fire on offense and can’t get the ball across halfcourt without turning it over, making their defense look really bad even though it isn’t necessarily that bad.

I watched a bit of draft film on Jacquez after the last game, seems like the ideal player for Spo to use. He’s super versatile on offense—iso, post, a bit of PnR on both ends—and a good help defender, he just needs to keep hitting his 3s and not get played off the court on defense.

He’d be a perfect fit in Dallas.

I would look out for Indiana, as well. This seems right up their alley.

Both teams have elite offense and bottom-10 defenses, so I’m not sure he’d be a great fit for either even though both could certainly use a PF.

Brunson with a shoulder injury isn’t great.

For all that fawning over Orlando, Boston was missing Jrue and KP left in the 3rd quarter. Beating a team that’s missing 2 all-stars isn’t quite as impressive.

Denver showed last year that they can turn on the jets in the playoffs simply by playing the best player in the world more minutes. They’re the team to beat until somebody beats them.

Murray stepped it up too, that’s the 2nd playoffs he’s been able to do that.

Tommy DeVito engineering a two-game winning streak that takes the Giants from selecting a franchise QB to picking 6th in the draft is very on brand for this team.

Italians in NJ are very happy thought

Apparently KP is shooting 29% on threes since going 5-9 against is.

I can’t imagine how not fun it would be to watch the awful 2-8 Giants beat the awful 3-8 Patriots 10-7 in the pouring rain

Apparently KP is shooting 29% on threes since going 5-9 against is.

    He also injured his calf.

It sure would be swell if November Porzingis is still a thing.
