2023-24 Game Thread – Knicks vs. Clippers (James Harden as a Clipper Opener! – Also not a thing)

The Knicks host the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday, with both teams getting a nice addition to their respective starting lineups. For the Clippers, James Harden makes his debut as a member of the Clippers, and as for the Knicks, RJ Barrett returns to the team after missing two games (both loses) with a knee injury.

Let us hope that the Knicks’ returning player is a bigger advantage than the Clippers’ returning player!

Let’s also hope that things are so bad for the Clippers that Harden demands a trade out of Los Angeles by the end of the season!

Let’s go, Knicks!

I need just one of Randle or Zach Wilson to have a good game. Just one. I’m not greedy.

That’s like saying I just want someone to give me $100,000 one time. That’s all I need—just once—I’m not greedy!

OK, bad analogy, but you get my point.

We’re at an enormous talent disadvantage but I also kinda think we’ll win? Should be a fun game, who knows.

Clips havenā€™t played since Wednesday, I guess the NBA wanted to make sure there would be no load management at MSG.

We’ve got Randle angrily directing traffic, RJ throwing up little shots right and left. Right where we want em.

I’m not hugely fond of Kawhi, but I do love watching him palm the basketball like it’s a tennis ball.

Kind of Not Good at this point in the season, eh? If you’re right, it certainly doesn’t bode well.

Guys, i have to make a confession, i may be to blame for our bad season. I run into Aladdin the other day, and on the last wish i asked for “RJ Barrett to be a lot better than Randle”. šŸ˜€

At least our defense is not horrible. I read that they had an internal goal of being top 10 defense this year. Unfortunately they forgot about offense.

I wish I was as high as fuck…watching this garbage

Clyde…”helter skelter” basketball

Aside from a couple of stupid turnovers the Knicks are for the most part getting excellent shots, just gotta start actually hitting them.

It would be an insult to call this a preseason scrimmage level of play.

This is the best Mitch has ever been on defense and the worst he has ever been on offense

How did this team win 47 games last year?

When do we play the Wizards? We need to play a team that plays no defense at all.

Under 40% from the field? Check. Under 30% from 3? Check.

We’re consistent, you have to give us that! When was the last team under 40% FG for a season?

Glad I went with Embiid as my main dude on FanDuel tonight—48/11/6 at the end of the third quarter. Only problem is they are beating the Wiz by almost 20 points, so chances are that he won’t play many more minutes.

RJ Barrett might be our best offensive player, which is a telling sign in good and bad ways

Mitch Robinson is having an incredibly dominating defensive game and he has three rebounds and a steal. Oh yeah, and a personal foul.

Box scores suck.

Well, I asked for just one of Randle or Zach Wilson to have a good game. Randle it is!

Is there pig grease on the basketball or something? Players are just randomly fumbling it away.

Naturally, I’m rooting for some of the teams we may be competing with for a playoff spot to lose. But rooting for the Lakers over the Heat is making me throw up in mouth a little.

The Bucks defense so far minus Holiday and plus Dame has sucked. I’m not surprised there has been a noticeable difference, but so far it’s been bigger than even I expected.

Obi is having a breakout night against the Spurs.

I’m an Obi fan, but it looks like he has 8 points and 2 rebounds in the 4th quarter

Jrue is the best non big defender in the league. Always rated close to the top anyway. Doesnt seem that suprising.

Is there a reason Quickley has only played 15 minutes?

Oh yeah, Thibs is still the coach.

Ah, my apologies. Obi has 19 points. Still 2 rebounds though.

When Randle is off you can just see him overthinking things…he’s had his moments tonight when he’s just playing.

Not much chances for OREBs. No one missed. šŸ˜‰

iHart should be able to take Diabate’s lunch money. Awesome pass by Other Hart in transition.

RJ had a few frustrating TOs tonight, but it still looks like he has taken a step forward. Let hope he can sustain it this year and then take a another step after the all-star break.

DiVincenzo! This lineup is fun to watch with the hustle Villanova boys creating havoc.

Harden being switched onto RJ there was the first time in my life I’ve ever wanted RJ to go to work on someone

Wish this game would end already so we can go back to talking about the incinerated pick.

Julius Randle. 27 points, 10 rebounds, 6 turnovers.

He’s baaaaa-aaaack…

Julius Randle. 27 points, 10 rebounds, 6 turnovers.

I can handle the occasional 6 TO night, but his TOs are coming from the same bad decisions he’s been making for years now. They aren’t random nonsense like we see from Brunson every once in awhile where you know he’s not going be making those same bad decisions or having those same momentary lapses every night.

I like what we are seeing from RJ. It feels more professional and sustainable than his hot streaks in the past.

I expect that there wonā€™t be many games in which the Clippers will be at full strength, so nice to win of those.

For all the focus on Randleā€™s struggles, Mitch, RJ and IQ are having excellent seasons. Brunson up and down but Iā€™m not worried.

Weā€™re 3-4 and still havenā€™t played a non playoff team.

“Knicks wouldā€™ve won more comfortably if they had Jalen Johnsonā€¦”

can u imagine?

28 assists. Not many forced shots, on top of that.

And the Nova Dogs played some hardnosed D.

For all the focus on Randleā€™s struggles, Mitch, RJ and IQ are having excellent seasons.

Yet Quickley only played 20 minutes despite having a solid game statistically, looking good, and leading the team in on/off for the night.

The thing I like about RJ over and above the boxscore improvement is that the team is actually playing better when he’s on the floor. That hasn’t been the case in the past even when he scored.

This may not be the best night to make the case because DDV had one of his impactful nights, but it looks his minutes are mostly coming from Quickley and Grimes whose minutes per game are down more than J Hart’s. I don’t see how that’s a good thing. Grimes had a rough night tonight but he’s playing OK overall and this is not a plus for his development. I still think Quickley is a the best player out of the 4 of them. So there’s no way I think that’s a good idea.

Not a perfect Randle game, but Good Julius enough that I can be talked off the ledge for the night. Between Julius, RJ, and the bench, we had more than enough to compensate for a very rare Bad Jalen night.

Randle desperately needed that kind of game. So did we.

+1

Im sure the NBA taking heads are gonna get all excited about the Sixers and Mavs hot starts, but check out who theyā€™ve played.

Incredibly easy schedules.

Really proud of Randle tonight, even though the Clips look slow & old and will probably be an epic disaster this year.

The Knicks played great. What a nice win. The Clippers looked like a bunch of loser assholes. How delightful.

Gobert seems to be getting back into a groove anchoring the T Wolve defense. Edwards is taking over as the #1 option. Iā€™m not sure where that leaves Towns. Heā€™s an offensive minded C whose usage is now down while playing out of position defensively. Itā€™s an obvious non fit but they canā€™t get back what they paid for Gobert and Iā€™m not sure who is going to want Towns at his salary even if you are willing to assume he would return to top form in a better situation. I know I donā€™t love the idea of him in NY with some other suspect defenders.

It’s been 15 fucking years since the Jets were in the top 10 in the NFL in points scored. 15 fucking years.

Also speaking of low scoring, per Tommy Beer

Mitch Rob had more offensive boards (45) than FG attempts (39) and points (44) this season.

Should we talk now about how we didn’t draft Jordan Hawkins? Oh no, wait…….we don’t do that when our last game was a win. šŸ™‚ Go, Knicks!
