I just realized that the all the seeds, 1-8, are still represented here in the second round. (Adam Silver’s DEI initiative on full display.)
I was thinking about that Giannis to the Knicks rumor Windhorst dropped. It actually makes a ton of sense when you dig deep into it.
Think about this: we can give them their 2025 draft pick back (top 4 protected). In a trade for any superstar other than Giannis, that pick is valued as a bottom 5 first. In a trade for Giannis, though, that pick is huge.
If Basketball Gods hang out with the Gods of Olympus then Giannis should come to NYK and make my lifetime prayers for a Knicks chip come true!
Good point Hubert but it is top 4 protected I think. Becomes more valuable in any event if Giannis is traded.
bottom line: he (Thibs) will stick with something that isn’t working for too long and he will be comically late making an adjustment sometimes.
I just wanted to comment on this quickly.
IMO, it’s sometimes difficult to tell if something that’s working or not working is statistical noise or a legitimate issue in less than 20 games, let alone in a single game.
What I would say is that Thibs is patient until the evidence is clear (which means many games) or there is an obvious mismatch that can be observed. That means he’ll occasionally be late to make an adjustment, but he’ll also never make poor panicked adjustments or go from idea to idea every few games and screw up the rotations in that way.

You don’t get “many games” of evidence to sit back and observe. The Knicks dominated the paint in the first half of game 1. If Spoelstra had waited til game 3 to make a change, we’d be up 2-0.

You’re describing what Woodson did in game 4 of the Indiana series when he panicked about getting outrebounded and came up with the worst adjustment ever (benching Pablo Prigioni and starting Kenyon Martin).
You’re right, Thibs won’t do that. He is no fool. And I totally understand being grateful to have a coach who isn’t a fool after all the fools that have come through.
And by the way, Thibs is coaching very, very well in these playoffs. And I think his critics are giving him tons of credit for it.
I did think it was kinda funny that he sat RJ in 4Q of game 2 bc he fucked up the 4Q of game 1. Nevertheless, that was the right move and he made it.
And as gkhenman pointed out, I overlooked how good a job we did hunting Duncan Robinson.
He is still on the slow train sometimes but he’s definitely picking up speed. And I feel oddly confident that the coaching staff has done something good to get IQ going early today.
