    Seems harsh Hubie!!!

Dude, all five of his favorite NY restaurants have franchises in Las Vegas. It’s a demerit.

Reasons Thibs should move Grimes back to the starting lineup:

    1. That group badly needs the spacing he provides, even when he’s not hitting his shots like lately. We’ve seen the Heat just throwing multiple guys at him whenever he has the ball, which opens up a whole ton of room for Julius, Jalen, and RJ.
    2. The second unit benefits so much from JHart’s energy, playmaking, and synergy with Obi and, especially, iHart.
    3. He’s our second-best wing defender and could do a credible job on Butler, even if nobody is going to shut down a healthy Playoff Jimmy.

Reasons Thibs shouldn’t (or won’t) move Hart back to the bench:

    1. Though they’re roughly the same size, Hart is substantially stronger than Grimes, and better-equipped to make Butler’s life more difficult. Even if, again, nobody can shut down a healthy Playoff Jimmy. In Game 1, Thibs made sure that Hart’s minutes on the court matched Butler’s whenever possible.
    2. We don’t know how much Grimes’ shoulder is still bothering him.
    3. Until he gets out of this slump, Grimes’ shooting is more theoretical than actual. (Though as Macri and others have pointed out, he tends to shoot much better when he gets a lot of touches in a game, and isn’t in as much of a rhythm when he only takes a handful of shots.)

We know what Thibs is likely to do. What say you, though, good people of Knickerblogger Dot Com?

    Yeah I agree, start Grimes.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Obi and IQ struggled last game without Hart out there, I think they feed off his energy and get more fast break opportunities.

Yeah, never change what’s working. Grimes starting and Hart from the bench was working very well. So unless it’s a health thing, move him to the starting lineup again, please.

cybersoze wrote: “Yeah, never change what’s working.”

Unless it’s Elfrid Payton, right? 🙂

Unless it’s Elfrid Payton, right? 🙂

    Elfrid wasn’t working 😛

starting/not-starting is such an inconsequential thing especially in the playoffs… it’s really all about minutes…. and whether or not you’re getting starters minutes or just giving the starters a break type of minutes….

the concerning thing is IQ is back down to giving brunson a break type of minutes of which Grimes is eating into that… there was also a brief stint with Randle at the 5 and Grimes at the 3/4…. which i didn’t like but it’s possible if Mitch is hurt that we’re going to see Hart, RJ and Grimes all out there….

but the ride or die lineup is most definitely Brunson, Hart, RJ, Randle and Mitch with fluctuations depending on whoever is playing well… Grimes may or may not get more touches in a game but Grimes and the team has very little control over that since basically everything he does is catch and shoot and miami is pretty proficient on rotations….

I think Hart is a lock to play so many minutes it doesn’t matter that much whether he starts. For better or worse (and I think it’s pretty clearly justified in this series for many reasons) Hart is going to get starter’s minutes and then some. For that reason I’m not sure how much juice he’d give to the bench even if he’s technically a part of it–he’s gonna play with the starters and the bench a lot.

The more interesting question is whether we should be playing Grimes more in general, and perhaps looking for him more too.

Obviously, we could very much use, or put another way, we desperately need, the good version of Grimes. We rank 16/16 in playoff 3PT% at .291.

If you assume Grimes is fully healthy, then yeah we should probably be trying to get him more involved. Who knows though, I would imagine it’s not easy to miss a decent chunk of time and then get dropped into this rock fight.

The 2nd unit was good before we got Hart. We really just need Quickley to not suck.

If he could run an offense with Deuce McBride bricking everything he should be able to run one with Grimes.

Deuce McBride did not brick everything.

    He bricked most everything.

I do agree that if all else remains equal, if IQ could not suck we might well be able to run away with this.

    If we weren’t already doomed.

I’m heading to Brooklyn in September for my friend’s wedding, and my parents are also going. My Yonkers-born-but-very-suburban mom wanted to stay in Times Square, which is a demerit. Brunson also gets a demerit.

i mean whadya think brunson was going to say…he hangs out at Wo Hop or l’artusi or sriphapai in queens?

At least he didn’t say TGIF or Shake Shack or some shit like that….and he did say his favorite was sushi so he gets the anti-demerit for just saying he eats raw fish…

    sriphapai in queens

When I lived in NYC, for 6 years I lived in Woodside right around the corner from Sriphapai. God I miss that place so much. Their menu was thicker than the bible.

When we lived in LA, we did live near Thaitown, so there were similar spots that were good (Ruen Pair being my fav). But nothing beats Sriphapai. NOTHING.

Come on guys. He’s still new to New York and spends half the season away, not to mention the days he spends up near Westchester. He’s basically still a tourist. Ask him again when the contract is over.

i lived in Richmond Hill…i started going to sriphapai when it was a five table hole in the wall…10 yrs later they had a full article on them in Bon Appetit…i am going back in July…definitely going to hit it…

i lived in Richmond Hill…i started going to sriphapai when it was a five table hole in the wall…10 yrs later they had a full article on them in Bon Appetit…i am going back in July…definitely going to hit it…”

There’s another spot down the street from there. Not sure if it’s still there or not and I do not remember the name. But it’s a little Thai Bodega grocery store where you can buy thai grocery products. But then they have a little restaurant there too with maybe 4 or 5 tables. That place is also really good! I remember when I lived there they did not serve alcohol but they would let you BYOB, which was cool.

Also Grimes is 22 and probably has 22 year old tastes

I’m in the camp that Grimes should start and play same minutes he played since the Josh Hart trade. He’s our best off ball perimeter defender and in this series where you have a team with great perimeter passing with the goal to create open threes, – his services are just what we need.

More importantly, Josh Hart coming of the bench 3-4 minutes before 2nd unit and then once iHart, IQ, and Obi come in the style of the game changes completely. They bring in that defensive and rebounding energy and running style attack that makes their 2nd unit priceless.

I saw a stat a while back that when you divide the game in 8 six minute periods, Knicks have the best +/- in the league in the first 6 minutes of the 2nd quarter. This is something we should value and not disrupt when everyone is healthy.

    Re: Grimes

I’d rather have him starting, but I’m more focused on playing time distribution and tactical situations (who you’re playing with/against when you’re on the floor), J-Hart’s gonna play a lot no matter what.

Start Grimes and use him for the first 6-7 minutes while the 3-Lefties try to establish their respective iso-environments*, but don’t just leave him in the corner, it’s true he’s at his best when he’s involved and can touch the ball, not only on catch-and-shoot but on drive-and-kick/drive-and-dish.

Then put J-Hart in and let him run with the Bench Mob at the start of the 2nd quarter.
After that, from mid 2nd quarter on, go with what works, it’s playoffs time, there are no fixed rules and Grimes/J-Hart can even play together.

To me starting target must be putting everyone in some kind of rhythm and try to have an idea about “who’s get it going tonight”, then you really start to coach the game.

Keep Miami’s defense busy, threat them with every player, make their weakest defenders work.

I know, it’s easier said than done, but you need a plan, right?

    * Something I don’t like but whatever…

I’m not sure it matters who starts, but Grimes hasn’t been in the same stratosphere of performance in the playoffs as Josh Hart.

As to his defense, I mean … ok … I suppose … but he played two full games against the Cavs and they scored 97 and 107 points and he (essentially) didn’t play three games and they scored 79, 93, and 95 points. We’ll put aside the full-on roster construction discussion for the offseason — it’s playoff time! — but I’m not remotely seeing an actual tangible world in which the Knicks can’t play perfectly good or great defense without Quentin Grimes.

(Offensively, he’s been an abject disaster by any serious measurement.)

you know nothing of demerits cock jowles…

just before I was injured, I was scheduled for a disciplinary hearing at school…with my shitty grades and bad behavior I was probably on my way out my sophomore year…

most of the demerits were from getting caught drinking in my room…did some other dumb stuff I’m sure…

I was too fucked up after the injury to do anymore bad shit…I showed back up like randle mcmurphy, meek as a kitten…they canceled my hearing…

recently learned a round trip ticket to zurich was only $600…I was amazed…

sounds like you are ready to have a blast heading back to new york…with your family…man, that’s gonna end up being like in some kind of time warp for you…

that’ll end up taking up some therapy time…

    random thought, I don’t get sushi…not even a little…

cerviche isn’t too terrible a concept for me…

I’m trying to think – yeah, pretty much any creature killed is better cooked/cured before eaten…

do they douse the fish in some kind of antiseptic…seaweed, while salty, not such a spectacular flavor either…

“I’m trying to think – yeah, pretty much any creature killed is better cooked/cured before eaten…”

guess you’re not a fan of Yellowjackets?

Lose your brother in a car accident, and then lose your job. Not a great couple of weeks for Bud, to say the least.

How crazy is it that the coaches of 3 of the last 4 NBA champions got shit canned?

I do feel a bit of sympathy for Budz, especially with the family circumstances, but he was not good in Milwaukee. Even in the year they won, they got off to horrible starts and barely eked out a win over the Nets due to a too-long Durant foot. I remember when we were courting him and he spurned us, now it seems like it was maybe for the best.

Hart starting itself isnt an issue but the spacing with him and RJ is not great. Grimes out there to finish made the offense look a lot cleaner since you have to respect him from 3.

bud is a good coach.. i think many observers focus too much on the monday morning qb’ing of his moves and rotations and he’s not perfect but rarely is any coach actually perfect in that regard… and for the most part… people second guessing coaching get in-game adjustments wrong more often than not…

what he was good at was overall strategy…. most people will completely forget this but the bucks popularized this whole drop coverage concept that transformed brook freaking lopez into one of the best defenders in the league and the bucks would not have come anywhere close to a championship or contention without it….

and he wasn’t even a defensive coach…. the bucks were a floundering playoff team before his arrival and they definitely got to another gear when he arrived and won a championship which maybe some might call an accident but they were contenders and within the handful of teams with a great chance to win it for his entire tenure…. and before you say it was just giannis and the bucks… this is his second team that he took deep into the playoffs….

the bucks probably could get to another gear with a different coach with a different spin since they really do need to focus on maximizing everything that’s left out of this aging core…. and probably why nurse can help them get there… but make no mistake…. you shouldn’t penalize budenholzer for not being coach spo or popovich or whoever…. but he’s made a pretty large impact in not only multiple organizations but also the league….

I was told by an anti-vaxxer, conspiracy-theorist, advanced-stats-are-fake, compulsive-gambler, only-I-can-see-the-truth, former KBer (!) ex-friend that Jokic was a dud in the playoffs and Giannis would show me who the real MVP was.

Instead the former is leading the league in playoff BPM and his team is destroying a Durant/Booker/Paul-led Suns squad while the latter got his championship-winning coach shitcanned.

Nice one, Dan. Hope you didn’t bet big on that one.

Brook Lopez is one of the most awesome and unlikely evolutionary stories of the NBA during my lifetime. He was a plodding 7 footer drafted to be groomed into a dying position. Sure, it was Atkinson that decided to let him go from taking 8 career 3 pointers to taking 8 3 pointers a game in his 9th season in the league, but Budenholzer must deserve some credit for turning him from Raef LaFrentz into Bill Russell on defense.

I remember when we were courting him and he spurned us, now it seems like it was maybe for the best.

It’s easy to give blame to the coach when things go bad, and kudos to the players when things go well. A coach’s main job is to utilize the players he is given by assigning minutes and role. I think Budenholzer is a good coach. I also think it is never good when a team is spurned by the coach they are trying to hire. It’s a litmus test for a franchise, and since coaches salary doesn’t apply to the salary cap, it really doesn’t affect anyone except the owner’s wallet. Who’d the Knicks end up with that summer? Fizdale? Hornacek? Somebody else who I can’t even remember? Hard to spin that into a good thing.

Never, ever believe anything that an anti-vaxxer, conspiracy-theorist, advanced-stats-are-fake, compulsive-gambler, only-I-can-see-the-truth, former KBer says.

Because if they leave KB, they’re clearly mad as a hatter.

Reeves just got the “you alright” nod from Draymond after Reeves plowed Green to the floor.

    Nice one, Dan.

Was it DanVT? That guy always seemed like a capital storming Qanon nutcase. (I was never fooled by the guitar)

Thought the same thing about when I saw Ham. Doesn’t look quite as svelte now

one of the most awesome and unlikely evolutionary stories of the NBA

Not to be outdone by Kevon Looney, who has evolved from Chris Dudley into Moses Malone this year (as the oldest looking 26 year old to ever live).

Looney is 26? That is impossible

Ham was a rimrocker in college, a serious power dunker. Now he is more power Dunkin.

    I will see myself out…

I remember when we were courting him and he spurned us, now it seems like it was maybe for the best.

We hired David Fizdale after he spurned us, so yeah. No. It was not for the best.

“We hired David Fizdale after he spurned us, so yeah. No. It was not for the best.”

We finished with the worst record in the league that year and got the 3rd pick in the draft…was that not for the best?

A year later, again finished with a terrible record thanks for Fizdale, got Steve Mills fired, drafted at #8…was that not for the best?

I think bucks messed up firing Bud. Giannis was hurt, his brother died and Miami is a sneaky good 8th seed. Shit happens and some years you flame out early in the playoffs and coach a bad series. It doesn’t make him a bad coach. Seems like a rash decision to me that they may come to regret.
