2021-22 Game Thread: Knicks @ Jazz

The Knicks are in Utah to face the struggling Jazz.

Knowing the Knicks, they’ll somehow win this one just to mess with the trade deadline.

No Kemba Walker or Quentin Grimes tonight. With no Grimes, perhaps Cam Reddish might actually get a real look tonight?

Let’s see if Randle can’t yell at a different coach tonight.

Let’s go, Knicks!

We don’t stand a chance today, Brian. But hey, we never know in the NBA, that’s the beauty of the game.
Gooooo Knicks!

Man, Quin Snyder is the spitting image of my sister’s first husband. It’s uncanny.

I hope Quin is a much nicer person.

Let. Him. Walk. For. JaVale. McGee.

By the way, JaVale McGee, at literally a decade older than Mitch, is still making $5 million this year.

So we’ll open up a 20 pt lead, and then we lose it all in the usual 3rd quarter meltdown, right?

It’s weird Noel isn’t doing nearly as much despite there being no differences between the two

It’s weird that you’re being this obnoxious because I respectfully disagree with your cultish worship of Mitch

I’m still on IQ Island, but I’m up on the bluff and I’m still knee deep in water. Every time he shoots I’m going “Please…”

Well I wouldn’t have anticipated not even finishing the quarter with a lead but eventually we were gonna need one of the non-Mitch players to do something

I didnt make Mitch my avatar to not enjoy him putting up 10 points and 8 boards in 7 minutes.

Randle is hitting those midrange jumpers tonight that he made all last year

The Suns are so freaking good, blowing out the Bulls tonight in Chicago

They’re my pick to win it all

DudeInKnicksTown:
RJ and Reddish looking synergistic. Zion you’re next.

Isn’t it so silly though … didn’t they just all play 1 year together … do they know each other … that well? I dunno

KJG: Isn’t it so silly though … didn’t they just all play 1 year together … do they know each other … that well? I dunno

Hey, don’t jinx it. 😛

The waves rolling back in….

Gotta say I think they miss Grimes. His defense on Mitchell would’ve been key.

d-mar: Edit: Reddish reincinerating

Was that a finger roll out of bounds …

Also, worthless timeout from Thibs , just let em play

Robinson open for lob basically every roll… it’s an injustice for Burks not to get him the ball

BigBlueAL:
Wasn’t TD the starting PG at the beginning of that season?

That’s what I think. We tried to run point-Melo briefly too

Sorry , Burks sucks lately … bullock > Burks if only for camaraderie and defense … I said it

BigBlueAL: Wasn’t TD the starting PG at the beginning of that season?

When i saw the question i automatically answered Raymond Felton. But i’m not 100% sure.

I’m not able to watch this one but I see that this Cam Reddish fellow is getting to play basketball for the Knicks. How is he doing?

RJ has to ditch this habit of going into double teams with the ball unprotected. Always ends with a jump ball.

Cam has great length if not girth.

He’s trying hard. A willing passer. Gets lost on defense. Made a nice steal. Gets to the line and can shoot fts.

Reddish looks like he doesn’t know what he’s doing but he moved well without the ball on offense-had a couple nice cuts to the rim.

Mitchell and Adebayo drafted 13th and 14th in the 2017 draft

Taken before them:

Frank
DS Jr
Zach Collins
Malik Monk
Luke Kennard

Nice half. It’s late here, no need to spoil this with the 3rd quarter meltdown. See yaaa!

Mitch gonna go for thirty … you’ll wanna see it 😉

In the same way the team has to eventually pick between obi and Randle it seems like IQ and Miles will be the same way down the line. Dont need two combo guards.

Announcers routinely comment how other teams make adjustments at the half.

Is there any adjustment we can remember that the Knicks have made at the half of any game? Offense or defense? I can’t.

“You saw Julius Randle gather the team at the free throw line.”

Julius: “Next time a coach shows you some shit on a laptop, just slap it out of his hand. On three. Break.”

RJ: “You mind if I just keep scoring?”

I guarantee you every Knickerblogger smiled inside when RJ made that little spin move jumper.

I swear it’s like one of those terrible kid movies where an 11-yr-old boy gets his wish and inhabits Julius Randle’s body. All the instincts and muscle memory are there, but operated by a clueless pre-teen.

ess-dog:
We are 10-10 when Burks starts at point guard? That’s interesting…

He’s a terrible PG, but so are all our other PGs. Difference is Burks’s length makes him a good defender (usually).

This Mitch game ranks pretty highly among all our players’ single game performances this season

Yeah, Utah has been terrible recently. But Randle hitting 3s & midrange jumpers shouldn’t depend too much on the defense.

I am surprised that guy didnt dribble the ball through Reddish’s leg too with that move. Cam wasn’t even in the zipcode at the end of the play.

Eric Paschall another Nova baller. Not sure how much he has outperformed. I had hopes for him out of the draft.

Randle needs the thinner air maybe to get his midrange jumpers over the rim.

I guess the first team to get hot from three wins? Assuming either team ever gets hot…

Win or lose, I hope Mitch has some left for Jokic.

The IQ, E4, Obi archipelago taking on heavy rains tonight.

noel iq burks and reddish have been fairly terrible but they’ve also all played hard

Send tapes of just the third quarter to teams and say, “Give us stuff for Randle! This will be him every game!”

noel iq burks and reddish have been fairly terrible but they’ve also all played hard

Yeah, the effort is definitely there. Noel, in particular, always play so hard!

Man, Quin Snyder has major pyscho energy.

Jordan Clarkson is always the guy I think of first for some reason when I consider the idea that you can always find a guy to take a bunch of shots in the NBA.

Quickly bailed out … not a fan tonight … I think RJ should play entire quarter …. Ahem … if they want to win

ptmilo:
it’s a fucking crime quin snyder never got to be a bad guy on miami vice

I was thinking more the star of a Houdini remake…

Owen:
Man, Quin Snyder has major pyscho energy.

He looks just like my former brother in law. Has the same constant scowl, harsh eyes and everything. Freaky.

Bad offense and now bad defense … we are gonna force more bad shots now. .. it’s a vicious cycle

Maybe Knicks finally get lucky and win the lottery but I don’t want the skinny guy from Gonzaga.

I just want the Knicks to lose because the other team played better, instead of losing because the Knicks played worse.

How is it that Julius never expects the double-team, every single time he drives? It’s like wait, they’re allowed to bring another guy to guard me? Is that allowed? What do I do now?

I’d really really rather see RJ create here … history suggest a lot of Randle and a lot of dribbling

Worst +/- on the team? That would be Cam Reddish with the -21. Glad he finally earned 15 minutes, though.

This is a pumpkin turn of all pumpkin turns … Utah finally decided to play more than a smidge of defense and that’s all she wrote … oversimplification … definitely … we also decided to suck

Well, I’m glad they didn’t put the only lock-down defensive stalwart in against the the short guy who’s the only offensive force on the Jazz…

The Knicks playing some of the dumbest freaking basketball I’ve ever seen.

What a waste of a pretty good effort on the road

Why on god’s green earth do you call a time out down 11 with 40 seconds to go? Please, let it end…

Our guys sucked tonight, to be sure, but you wonder if there’s ever been a day in Thibs’s life where he told his team, “My mistake; I have to do better.” I think not.

Fournier and Randle are not candidates for the Mt Rushmore of basketball intellects….

I’m fully on board team tank just not sure how many viable trades are actually possible but it’ll be an interesting next 72 hrs.

The Knicks must employ a mad scientist to come up with all these kooky crazy ways to lose basketball games….

The Knicks may have lost, but at least the young guys — RJ, Quickley, Reddish, and Toppin, all looked good. Wait, what? They were 11 out of 41?

Never mind.

Vets really upped their tank game tonight. Kept it close all night for an entertaining 4Qs, then fell apart at the end. Truly what it takes to be tank commanders!!

Z-man:

More like candidates for the Three Stooges of basketball intellects. Taking the Larry and Curly spots.

at this point in time, i think the only question that still remains to be answered is: do jalapeno poppers qualify as the vegetable portion of a healthy and happy dinner?

Yeah, it’s probably not going to be what we want, sadly.

At least Mitch was great and did what he was supposed to do against a no Gobert Jazz… everyone else can get traded tomorrow and I frankly wouldn’t give a fuck about any of them to be honest.

What’s more aggravating than this loss is the feeling I have that Rose will stay put and won’t do anything in the deadline. Once again we’ll be left with the option “ok at least he didn’t made a knicksy trade” but also, as has been his characteristic so far, also never finds any better option.

My suspicion is the Knicks have made offers to other teams for trades, but those teams are trying to see if they can do better.

Knick fan not in NJ: Maybe it’s the absence of Rose?

100%…rudderless withouth him since IQ has regressed into an indecisive shell of his former self…and obi is doing the same under the tutelage of the king of player development…tommy thibodooh…dooh..

its like the organization has taken a somewhat decent collection of talent and through poor combinations/playing out of position/usage of 6th grade weave offense and has made the sum less than the parts…that takes some talent…

I’d like to see us trade for De’Aaron Fox instead of over the hill non point guards.

A botanist would use the botanical classification, which is based on the plant’s physiological characteristics, like the structure, function and organisation of the plant. Therefore, botanically speaking, a ‘fruit’ is the seed-bearing product that grows from the ovary of a flowering plant or, in other words, a fruit is the plants’ way of spreading its’ seeds. A botanical fruit would have at least one seed and grow from the flower of the plant. With this definition in mind, peppers are classified as fruit because they contain tiny seeds in the middle and grow from the flower of the pepper plant.
A ‘vegetable’ in botanical terms does not have a set definition but is more of a general term encompassing all other edible aspects of the plant, the roots, stems and leaves. So, putting our botany caps on, we would classify foods like apples, strawberries and cherries as fruit, including peppers!
A nutritionist or chef would use the culinary classification system, that defines fruit and vegetables in a slightly different manner, basing it on the way the plants are used and their flavour profiles. Culinary speaking, a ‘vegetable’ usually has a tougher texture, tastes blander and often requires cooking in dishes like stews, soups or stir-fries. Whereas, a ‘fruit’ has a soft texture, tends to be either sweet or tart and is often enjoyed raw or in desserts or jams.
Peppers can be crunchy, refreshing and enjoyed raw. Yet, we also prepare peppers in savoury dishes like stews or in fajitas, which is why we usually classify peppers as vegetables..so…you’re good Geo…no matter if they’re covered in velveeta and wrapped in fried flour…

next time you on that 10 pepper we need to see about some foosball…

still trying to figure out what i’m gonna do with my time moving forward…

is this the time to “man up”, get back to the grind and a more “normal” routine, or, continue to delay/wait until i get more proof that i’m okay, or, start looking in more detail at options for spending more time in the garden and enjoying afternoon naps – find a way to pull the cord now and try to land as softly as possible…

i like to work – it’s a fun distraction to me, it’s excites me (to my own demise now), it’s a decent source of self-worth, i don’t mind money and i like to shop…i remember the first job i ever had when money just started rolling in (worked in semi-conductor manufacturing)…money can be very very sexy and appealing…

was speaking with an older couple (they had me by 15 years maybe) at the park…it’s a decent area in california, california ain’t cheap – they said though that they’re in no way wealthy, they just make sure to spend less than they take in…simple, but true…they said something about the fact that the only thing we ever really own in our lifetimes is our time…

The losing is productive. That only three-ish guys played well (I liked RJ’s approach, even though his shot wasn’t falling) is not. Hard to see Utah looking at Burks or Fournier as their Ingles replacement after that stinker, for instance.

Cam looked bad, but he also has been on a shelf for weeks. My expectations are not high, but I want to see him get extended minutes, preferably with a real point guard — assuming we ever have a healthy one of those on the roster for a long period of time.

This is great.

Tommy Beer:
Monster night for Mitch Robinson in the loss to Utah:
19 points (on 8-of-11 shooting)
21 rebounds (10 on offensive end)
3 blocks
Not bad for someone who didn’t have a single play run for him the entire game.

Mitch Rob is the first and only Knick to tally those numbers in a single game since Patrick Ewing in November of 1989
