2015-16 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Sixers

So the Knicks are:

A. home
B. playing against a team that has lost 18 of their first 19 games this season
C. playing against a team that has lost 18 of their first 19 games this season but won their last one, so they’re not even trying to avoid a crazy losing streak anymore
D. playing against a team that suspended their #1 pick this year for two games for fighting (leading the Sixers to note, “Oh yeah, maybe we should have someone around this guy when he is out at night”).

So this sure darn well better be an easy win for the Knicks.

Which is good, because they’ve lost their last four games so they could definitely use some easy wins.

Let’s go Porzingis!!

Oh, okay, let’s also go Knicks!

  1. No Okafor tonight due to a 2 game suspension. Are they protecting him (and themselves ) from his match up with Porzingod?

  2. Let’s go Porzingis!!

Oh, okay, let’s also go Knicks!

    Exactly.
If Porzingis plays well and the Knicks win, I’m happy.
If Porzingis plays well, but the Knicks lose, I’m happy.
If Porzingis plays poorly but the Knicks win, I’m not happy and happy.
If Porzingis plays poorly and the Knicks lose, I’m super duper sad.

  3. I would hate to overlook the 76’ers and lose this game.

The Westchester Knicks lost their first game this morning. Fredette was a star again scoring 22, grabbing 7 bounds and dishing 9 assists. He was 8-18 from the field, 1-2 from beyond the arc and 5-6 from the line. Cleanthony Early score 16 and had 9 rebounds but he shot 5-13.

The following is a Knicks tweet: @Clearly_BallLyf lacing ’em up for his 2nd game of the day!

  4. I see the most beautiful girl in the club
And tell her: I am your destiny
But she says to me, you’re not tall
    Like KRISTAPS PORZI??IS
    .. Kristaps.. PORZI??IS (x6) […]
I’m ice, honey, painting, sausage, yeah, yeah, yeah
Meanwhile Kristaps is getting buckets in the NBA, yeah, yeah, yeah
Meaning, fence, steel, cookie, blackness, yeah, yeah, yeah
Rarity, Age, luxury, pride, drinker yeah, yeah, yeah

  5. Just had a look at the play by play on ESPN while grabbing a coffee. Is KP everywhere this evening so far, because that’s how it reads.

  6. Man, the Sixers are booty.

Yeah, the Knicks don’t even look good out there and they’re going to easily blow them out.

  7. Just had a look at the play by play on ESPN while grabbing a coffee. Is KP everywhere this evening so far, because that’s how it reads.

He’s chewing bubblegum and kicking ass.

And he just ran out of bubblegum.

  8. The biggest dirty secret no one mentions about the Sixers is that their bench squad is good. Its been their starting lineup that has held them back most, particularly when Okafor plays.

  9. We just saw a Lance Thomas/Kevin Seraphin pick and roll. It was not pretty.

Meanwhile, the KP6/Melo pick and roll is nowhere to be found.

  10. When Lance Thomas is your best option on a squad, you know there is a lack of scoring talent.

  11. Kevin Seraphin is so buns. He is Porzingis’ friend, though, so he has that going for him.

  12. A knicks without Melo is like what you are watching now – 76ers

Well, yeah, considering the cap room, talent and picks we gave to get him.

  13. Somebody please explain to me this whole strategy of putting either all starters or all bench players on the floor? How about staggering them a little bit so you don’t run lineups out there made up of five guys who have no prayer of scoring? Jerian Grant’s jump shot is the only thing saving the day right now. I mean this is just dire.

  14. I think you mean a Knicks team without Porzingis

This. Dude is our best defender, rebounder, and second biggest scorer.

  15. Man, this game is ass. Our bench is so fucking bad. And the Sixers are even worse for letting them maintain a lead.

  16. 76ers got a lot of picks (assets)
We have Pozringis, Grant and they have Noel, Embid, and Okafor
Yes we gave our cap space to melo, and the 76ers? They are giving it to Jason Richardson or they are ‘saving’ theyre owners money by not using it to any Melo – caliber player.

  17. How about staggering them a little bit so you don’t run lineups out there made up of five guys who have no prayer of scoring?

    You didn’t know? Fisher sucks.

  18. We have Pozringis, Grant and they have Noel, Embid, and Okafor

We win because PorzinGod > those other players.

  19. Man, the Sixers are so bad. This supertanking strategy Hinkie has employed isn’t working out. Their coach looks like a hothead who only knows how to yell at his team. And there are no veterans there to show the young talent the nuances of playing at the NBA level.

  20. I’m starting to wonder if Melo is washed up.

Not just you. Other scouts and GMs have already wondered the same thing.

We need to trade him while we can get something for him.

  21. It’s pretty annoying to see Porzingis not getting touches but he’s doing everything else on the court so that’s alright I guess

  22. It’s pretty annoying to see Porzingis not getting touches but he’s doing everything else on the court so that’s alright I guess

It really is. Between Afflalo and Melo chucking hes been frozen out of the offense.

  23. Least impressive 15 point lead at the half I’ve ever seen, but I’ll take it!

  24. Least impressive 15 point lead at the half I’ve ever seen, but I’ll take it!

Right? This is the most embarrassing blowout win you’ll see. How in the world do they not get Zinger more involved in the game?!

  25. Hopefully they practice closing out games with big leads. Quite the weakness so far this year.

  26. Dirk is a cool guy. Great quote at halftime.

Melo has looked horrible. But whatever, looks like a win.

As for my favorite Latvian, been trialling a new nickname…

    Treetops.

For some reason, it’s working for me…

  27. You know, Passzingis has thrown a number of nifty passes the past few games. I like it. Maybe one day he can get the rare quadruple double.

  28. 2-game suspension by the sixers for getting in fights outside a bar and doing 108 on a bridge heading out of Philly.

  29. Treetops is just a good basketball player, all over the court.

Kind of hard to believe he is a Knick…

  30. Anyone who plays magic cards?
KP should have a nickname of Latvian Sage

in reference to the card Gyre Sage. It shows that he will evolve and will make others better :D

  31. Man, the Sixers are so bad. I actually think an entire generation of talent could be squandered on that shitshow. Ben Simmons could go there and they’d suck.

  32. If it wasn’t for Porzingod we’d probably be a lot more excited about the mostly positive season Grant has had

  33. I am a still big on Grant. He needs to work on perfecting his stroke and handle. But the foundation is there.

  34. @67 I agree, PG in the NBA is always the hardest position for college players to adjust to, and we’re starting to see steady improvement

  35. @70
So you’re saying he’ll be a good point guard once he learns how to shoot and how to dribble..?
One could say the same thing about Thanasis and be just as correct

  36. So you’re saying he’ll be a good point guard once he learns how to shoot and how to dribble..?

The difference is consistency. It’s not that Grant can’t dribble or shoot. Its that he needs to be more consistent in both.

  37. Jekyll and Hyde award goes to the Wiz, beat the Cavs in Cleveland yesterday, lose to the Lakers at home tonight

  38. When was the last time a team had 3 turnovers on the inbounds pass without actually inbounding the ball?

  39. I need Seraphin to play more like Boris Diaw. If we can get a poor man’s Boris, I’ll take it and trade it in February

  40. By the way Vujacic should not be in the game over Early, Grang, or O’Quinn. That’s stupid.

  41. 8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block from Seraphin in 17 minutes ain’t half bad.

  42. This game is uglier than Carrot Top post facial surgery, But at least we won and the PorzinGod was appeased.

  43. serafin is a healthy washed up amare minus the offensive skills

Seraphin is a way better passer out out of the post than STAT.

  44. I read a poll the other day that almost half of Sixer fans still believe in “the process.” If I were a Sixer fan, I would not be nearly as patient as those people. This team is BRUTAL to watch.

  45. EARLY PLAYED 2 games in one night? Am I right?

Knicks: The club’s NBA D-League team dropped a Wednesday matinee for its first loss this season. Former college player of the year Jimmer Fredette had 22 points and nine assists after a 37-point debut Monday, while Knicks forward Cleanthony Early had 16 points and nine rebounds. Early was recalled later Wednesday and got in for the final 3 minutes against the 76ers, joining Troy Daniels, Jordan Farmar, Coby Karl and Luke Harangody as the only players to accomplish a D-League/NBA doubleheader.

  46. @91 He did indeed

Breen and Clyde mentioned it in the broadcast a few times in the 4th quarter.

  47. This Philly team is an embarrassment — not because of the talent level, although that’s an embarrassment too — but because there is a total lack of professionalism on that team. you can see it in how lazily they play the game. Full speed with no care at all. I know many on this board don’t believe in chemistry and veteran leadership, but there’s literally zero of either on this team.

I haven’t watched much of Noel but I really don’t see much there. Looks very much like John Henson. Nice, but not a game changer.

KP is really starting to learn how to disrupt the other team’s offense at the rim. Other than that guy Holmes (who looked really good!), any Sixer that ventured near the basket looked like they were expecting to get their shot rejected.

Can’t believe this guy is a Knick.

  48. I like Henson a lot, but I think you’re not giving Noel a fair shake. First off, Henson is pushing 25, while Noel is in his second year of basketball (I realize that you compared different time periods of theirs but let’s bracket that) and recently turned 21. Noel, for all his offensive woes, is a very good defender, and is ahead of Henson in that regard (though he’s no slouch himself). Noel has been dealing with injuries that have hampered his development, and being on the dumpster fire of player development that is Philadelphia doesn’t help. He’s also been shoehorned into more of a PF role this year, which is at least partly responsible for the rather drastic dip in his already poor shooting numbers and the moderate drop in his other numbers. Even assuming little to no development of his offensive game I don’t think you take Henson over Nerlens, or, at minimum, it’s way too premature to say, since Noel has so much more time to develop.

I at least would take Nerlens.

  49. They really should have traded Noel before the season and not now, when they fucked his value over. I still can’t believe they didn’t make a trade. Dude is a center!!

    So is Embiid….
