2014-15 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Sixers: Tankageddon 2015

This game is very important not because the Sixers can really catch the Knicks, but because the Sixers are by far the worst team the Knicks play the rest of the year. So if the Knicks can somehow manage to lose to the Sixers, then they should be in good shape to get the worst record in the league.

The Sixers played just last night (a one-point, last second loss) so this will be a tough game for the Knicks to lose. One bright spot is that Nerlens Noel will be suiting up for Philly tonight.

A fellow on Twitter by the name of @Madrillionaire had a funny bit earlier today. He posted a photo of the Kentucky players after last night’s loss, captioned “When you realize you’re now part of the Knicks’ starting lineup.”

  1. I know some of these guys are playing for contracts, but I really wish they would stop trying.

  2. I’m starting to get nervous.

It’s a tough matchup for the Knicks to lose. I think they’re still okay if they somehow win this, but yeah, it’d be much nicer if they lost it.

  3. I’d love a geek to tell me what the two worst teams to ever play each other in the nba was.

The 2014-2015 New York Knicks practice squad A vs. the 2014-2015 New York Knicks practice squad B

  5. 26-5-3 with 7 (!!) steals by Kawhi tonight against the best team in the NBA. Dude still just 23.

It also suggests that the Spurs will be able to at least hang with the Warriors in the playoffs.

  7. David Lee getting a ring, though, would be nice. So I think I’ll root for the Warriors.

  8. I feel a little bad for Lee. He’s played on some terrible teams. He’s finally on a great team but he got buried on the bench and the team is probably going to try to unload his contract.

It also suggests that any team can beat any other team on any given night. Like how we did.

  10. Bargs and Jah combining on a block….

Don’t even know what to say about this game….

    I do.

    NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Larkin is probably our most promising young player so it’s kinda too bad he won’t be on the team next year.

I dunno, the Spurs sort of kicked their ass, no?

  14. This is a bad win, but so long as they lose their last five games, they’re good. They can’t afford another win, though.

  15. WTF is up with all these damn blocked shots!?!? I looked up the game the Knicks set their franchise record with 15, Ewing not surprisingly lead the team with 7 blocks that game. Knicks lost though.

  16. Barnyarnee just received an ovation from the Garden…I’m pretty sure that’s a sign of the apocalypse.

  17. This game might mean an extension for Bargnani and dropping a slot in the draft. How the fuck does this happen?

  18. If we assume the top 4 picks are Okafor, Towns, D’Angelo and maybe Cauley-Stein, who would the Knicks pick if they fall to number 5?

    Kaminsky? Winslow? Mudiay?

I’m not sue how I feel about that

  19. Just think how far you could spread the defense with Kaminsky, Bargnani, and Jah on the court at the same time….

  20. Winslow looks like he’s moved up high. But I bet Mudiay is going in the top five.

  21. I haven’t seen a minute of Mudiay, but that doesn’t seem like the kind of pick the Knicks will make. It’s a high risk high reward pick unless you think you have a confident line on him based on his play in China. I think the Knicks are going to be looking for a “most likely to succeed” pick.

  22. Just noting that if the Knicks pick at #5, Mudiay will have already been one of the top four picks, ya know?

  23. All the Knicks need to do from here is not win. So far, that has been right in their wheelhouse. I am optimistic.

  24. 26-5-3 with 7 (!!) steals by Kawhi tonight against the best team in the NBA. Dude still just 23.

Yeah, but can he carry a team? You’ve got to look at that.

  25. Are we sure Mudiay is top 4 on the blind?

    Okafor and Towns are automatic.

After that it could be Winslow, Russell or Mudiay, with an outside shot to Cauley-Stein.

  26. Isnt there a foreign player who is getting alot of talk about being a possible Top 5 pick??

  27. Isnt there a foreign player who is getting alot of talk about being a possible Top 5 pick??

There is, but he’s no sure thing for top five. I think Okafor and Towns are locks for 1-2 and then Russell and Mudiay are locks for one of the top three spots. Then it does get a bit tricky. Cauley-Stein, Enigmatic European Guy and Winslow are all in the mix with whichever one of Russell/Mudiay who doesn’t go in the top three for picks #4-7.

Those are the consensus top seven, though (Towns, Okafor, Mudiay, Russell, Cauley-Stein, Winslow and Enigmatic European Guy).

  28. The interesting thing to me is that there is a decent chance that Philly doesn’t want either Okafor or Towns, so that definitely helps the Knicks, in the sense that all they have to do is finish in the top three (with Philly being either #1 or #2) and there’s a good chance they get one of Okafor and Towns. The risk there, though, is that Philly trades down and another team swoops in and gets Towns/Okafor.

  29. I wonder if this would be a good summer to lock in some Euro FAs at a low price since most of the good nba FAs this summer are restricted.

  30. @48

Yes, that’s exactly the Colangelo special (Toronto 2006-07) I suggested a couple of months ago.

There are two main pros to that kind of strategy: Euro FAs generally cost less and they’re better suited for the Triangle philosophy. There is also, though, a huge downside. It seems like they need a lot of time to fit in, and sometimes they’re caught by some sort of saudade. Still, it looks like that’s our best shot to improve a few cogs on our bench.
