2014-15 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Pistons

Luckily for the Knicks, the Pistons, one of their closest competitors for the worst record in the league, have suddenly begun to look like the team Detroit fans were hoping they’d be. All they needed to do, apparently, was to cut out the cancer that was Josh Smith (okay, adding Jodie Meeks was important, as well – Stan Van Gundy clearly put a lot of faith in Meeks and so far it seems like he knew what he was doing). This is good news for Detroit fans but even better news for Knicks fans, as it makes it a lot easier for the Knicks to solidify their spot as one of the two worst teams in the league, which would assure them of finishing no lower than #5 in the NBA Draft (and much more likely at least #4).

A lot of Knicks missing tonight’s game, so it’s going to be quite interesting. JR Smith is starting at the three and you can expect to see a lot of JR Smith tonight.

Let’s…something or other….Knicks!

  1. For a guy that’s all about his brand, Melo’s suit needs some work. He needs to emulate Coach a little more in that department.

  2. Where is Andrea Bargnani? I paid good money for League Pass so I could watch the much anticipated Bargnani/Smith combo!

  3. Aaaand… Bargs is in the locker room with a calf injury. Probably took a couple of lottery balls with him.

  4. You guys see Rondo’s quote?

“I haven’t played defense in a couple years,” Rondo said. “I’ve been able to hide a lot with Avery Bradley on the ball. He’s helped out, the young guy. But [in Dallas] they expect me to play defense and, in the West, if you don’t play defense you’ll get embarrassed every night at the point guard position.”

That has been my position for a while, but actually hearing a dude say it is a whole other matter.

  5. Why is it that Early is finally healthy and active tonight yet he has gotten into the game yet??

  6. Looks like the Wolves are the real competition. Good thing they dealt that first round Miami pick!

  7. I mean, I like Cole and all, but even I never thought he should be leading the Knicks in fg attempts

  8. Detroit is a terrible offensive team. They’re 27th in the league in eFG%, at .469. Tonight their eFG% is a whopping .674. Basically their whole team is shooting like 1967 Wilt Chamberlain.

  9. Pistons biggest win this year was 7 points (and that was in OT). Then they released Josh Smith and are about to win their four consecutive game by double digits. Unless they win Q4 70-0.

  10. Rondo 4-6 from 3 point range, nice of him to discover his jump shot just in time to rub it in his former fans’ faces.

  11. Wasn’t Jose Calderon supposed to be, like, not terrible? How many years left on that contract? Sheesh. I miss Felton.

  12. If the Knicks lose by 20, you can still say the score doesn’t indicate the magnitude of the beatdown.

How long will the Knicks remain undefeated in 2015? I am estimating 11 hours and 45 minutes.

That might be my highpoint of Knicks following for the season. smh

  14. As I alluded to earlier, imagine if the Knicks were where they are now, only they also traded away, say, a first rounder that belonged to, say, Denver just for the chance to be slightly better at the power forward spot. We’d be going kind of nuts, right? That’s where Minny is right now. Traded away Miami’s first rounder (after they knew Miami would be not as good as last year) for Thaddeus Young.

  15. Open question: Is it a foregone conclusion that the entire coaching staff returns next year? What if the Knicks win 13 games? 9? 7? What is their magic number?

  16. My brother was asking me about that the other day. He doesn’t follow the team that much and he was asking me what Derek Fisher had to do to get fired, as he very likely will be the coach of the worst Knicks team of all-time. I’ll tell you what I told him – I don’t think Jackson can really much afford to play this out publicly as anything but it all being part of his plan. And to do that, he really can’t afford to fire anybody.

Friendly reminder. The Vegas Over/Under for Knick wins this season was 40.

Ahhh, Put me down for the Under

This is epically bad basketball. Now they are talking about shutting Melo down for the year. Hard to believe, but this is going to get even UGLIER.

  18. The knicks sent a clear message to Detroit tonight. “Stay the hell out of the race to the bottom”.
