    1. It’s nuts when our own government is more dysfunctional than the Knicks. I wouldn’t blame Porzingis for just staying in Latvia.

      Sorry for the political talk.

    2. Well, no shit he left because of melo.

I guess he hadn’t officially said so until now? But yeah, it’s weird to have a headline on it so many years later when no one was ever in doubt about what happened.

    3. I found myself rooting against Harden and D’Antoni last night. Not sure in what order. Not sure of why I don’t like Harden. Very sure of why I don’t like D’Antoni.

    4. I don’t like Harden because of all the flopping he does. He tries (and succeeds) at gaming the refs. Everyone does it to some degree, but it’s really egregious with him. It’s not cheating, but it’s close.

      No doubting his skill though.

I don’t mind D’Antoni at all. Certainly he’s in a better situation now than he was when here or in LA – he has a front office that is like-minded and has a team built for what he wants to do.

    5. I found myself rooting against Harden and D’Antoni last night

I root for the Spurs against everybody. And Harden is kind of hard to root for also.

The Rockets totally blew it last night. They get the game to OT and Kawhi sits out and then Harden shits the bed. Hope they lose it in 6 so the Spurs get a little rest before the Warriors series.

    6. My reasons for not liking D’Antoni:

-Benching Steph even though he was by far the best PG on the team, showed up in great shape, and did not do anything wrong in preseason.
-Running players into the ground (e.g. Amare, Duhon, Felton, Lin)
      -Lack of focus on D
      -Doghouse rigidity
-Gimmicky offense (in general, I’m not a fan of watching teams shoot 50 3’s a game. The fourth quarter and overtime of last night’s game was uglier than anything I ever saw in the Knicks-Heat series from the late ’90’s. Nothing worse than watching a bunch of pampered 3-pt chuckers shooting bricks vs. no touch-foul D.)

    7. And LMA is an overpaid choke artist. I’m thrilled that we didn’t get stuck with him and chose to spend our FA money more wisely. #joakimbeastsin1718

    8. Yeah last night’s OT is what you get when you have a 7 man rotation and you ask Harden to basically create offense on every single offensive possession. He was totally gassed. Jumpers all short, no burst to the rim.

I haven’t seen any updates on Kawhi’s status for game 6? Wonder whether Pop rests him to have him as close to 100% as possible for a game 7.

    9. D’Antoni’s offense is a “gimmicky” offense the same way the West Coast Offense is a “gimmicky” offense.

    10. Benching Steph even though he was by far the best PG on the team, showed up in great shape, and did not do anything wrong in preseason.

Marbury hadn’t had a good season since 2004 and was playing in China within a year. He was an embarrassment and an awful basketball player.

    11. D’Antoni’s offense is a “gimmicky” offense the same way the West Coast Offense is a “gimmicky” offense.

50 3s in a game is definitely a gimmick and definitely ridiculous. Unless you are the Warriors, what the fuck you doing?

    12. Yeah I’m not a huge fan of the 3 pt chucking. I’ve seen so many games where a team runs nice plays to get an easy basket only too see Steph pull up for a 29 footer and dance around like he did something, that I find myself rooting against g state even vs the hated LeBron

    13. @ 12 – But he was still the best Knicks PG on that team when Dantoni took over and came into camp ready to rock and roll. I think the point isn’t that Marbury was going to be a long term answer but more that Dantoni basically would have rather lost games than start Marbury (or even play him at all) and for that to be the very first thing you do as a coach of a new team when you’re a guy who runs an offense that demands a decent PG…it was a head scratcher and made him look petty. If he played well for the first third of that season then maybe you can move him for something instead of having to just dump him for nothing. Asset mismanagement.

    14. D’Antoni just is a dick to certain players. Like putting Shump in the doghouse and then taking him out for no reason.

But Marbury was not the best point guard on the team when D’Antoni benched him. That sadly was Duhon. Marbury was good enough to be in the rotation, though (only because the team stunk), and that’s where D’Antoni was a dick, since he couldn’t even be upfront with Marbury, but instead told him he would be part of the rotation, let him play the entire preseason as if he was part of the rotation and then told him the day of the first game, “Oh, by the way, you’re never going to play unless of an emergency.” Total dick move. What’s funny is that I recall very few people agreeing with that position here when it happened. Most folks sided with D’Antoni.

    15. Getting rid of Marbury was one of the best things DAntoni did. Steph was a head case and a shitty basketball player.

    16. Benching Marbury was fine. Telling Marbury you’re not going to bench him, playing him like you’re not going to bench him and then benching him anyways is a dick move.

    17. 50 3s in a game is definitely a gimmick and definitely ridiculous. Unless you are the Warriors, what the fuck you doing?

you mean other than running the 3rd best offensive team in the last 20 years from a team Vegas thought would be @ .500? that’s not what gimmick means or what definitely means.

    18. To me the whole Marbury thing was disappointing because Walsh and Dantoni were a new era from the Isiah years and the first thing Dantoni does is create drama with not playing Marbury. To me that was the biggest issue. Just play him and turn over a new leaf. He brought a 6 year old grudge to his new job in a new city. It did not need to happen. Just play him and then trade him.

    19. 50 3s in a game is definitely a gimmick and definitely ridiculous. Unless you are the Warriors, what the fuck you doing?

Having the #2 offense in the NBA? Winning 55 games?

SSOL has changed basketball in the same way the West Coast Offense changed football. Pretty much everybody shoots assloads of threes these days, because if you don’t you’ll get beat.

    20. Just as I expected, we are starting to see plenty of the articles hyping Frank Ntilikina. The Knicks haters in the media are never satisfied unless they damage the Knicks. Shouldn’t be long until they hype him into the top 6 and Monk falls to us at 7.

    21. Getting rid of Marbury was one of the best things DAntoni did. Steph was a head case and a shitty basketball player.

      +1

      No brainer.

    22. Melo is the best SF in the Knicks. Yet, I don’t want to see him in a Knicks uniform nevermore.

The same thing was applied to Marbury.

Move on guys. Marbury was a cancer.

    23. I was admittedly too young to grasp any of the Marbury stuff while it was happening, but what exactly would’ve been the point of keeping him around? If anything it seems like D’antoni ripped the band-aid off before the situation got even worse. Phil Jackson could learn from him!

As for the offense, are we seriously still arguing about this? I mean, if you’re saying you just don’t like watching it, whatever. That’s a personal preference and it’s not D’antoni’s job to put on a show that everyone enjoys. The effectiveness can’t be questioned though.

    24. Marbury was a cancer.
D’Antoni is kind of a dick and handled it poorly.

      Both things can be true.

      Comey fucked up a bunch.
Trump is under investigation and shouldn’t have fired him.

      Both things can be true.

    25. Marbury was a cancer.
D’Antoni is kind of a dick and handled it poorly.

      Both things can be true.

Yeah, precisely. I think D’Antoni is a very good coach, overall (I’d rather have him than Hornacek), but the guy can be a real dick.

    26. Didn’t the roster vote to bench Marbury? Would that not explain the crossed messages or am I crazy?

    27. @Brian – When I posted the article yesterday, it wasn’t really a revelation but it was rumor before.

I thought that D’Antoni was a bit of a jerk but I really liked his offense and studied it carefully. If he had put ANY emphasis on defense, I thought he could take an NBA team all the way. Offensive system aside, I don’t think he related well to the players.

When a head coach loses the respect of his players, he’s done.

As for Marbury, he was more of a jerk than D’Antoni. His skills had eroded and his head was a mess.

Sadly, I don’t think we’ve gotten rid of all the jerks on the Knicks. Until we do, this will never be a team.

BTW, if by some miracle Ball drops to the Knicks, I think it would be the biggest mistake ever to draft him. Every time his dad opens his mouth, the kid slips in my rankings. I’m thinking he’ll be a cancer.

    28. Even if what you are saying about Marbury being a head case and a cancer is generally true, he came into camp in shape and ready to go and outplayed Duhon in the preseason. And after a good start, Duhon absolutely sucked once he stopped riding Amare’s coattails during the first trip around the NBA.

D’Antoni should have let Marbury play himself out of the lineup. Instead, he went about it like the pompous dick that he is.

    29. Marbury was a cancer.
D’Antoni is kind of a dick and handled it poorly.

      Both things can be true.

      Comey fucked up a bunch.
Trump is under investigation and shouldn’t have fired him.

      Both things can be true.

Actually, the second one is NOT exactly true, unless you listen to the mainstream media because you enjoy biased news & being mislead on a daily basis. First let’s be clear, both liberals and conservatives hate Comey. It may be for different reasons, but he’s the one American that unites us all. lol

      Here’s what REALLY happened.

Trump does not like Comey. He wanted him out and wants his own guy in there. It is not unusual for a president of the US, a CEO at a major corporation, or any other leader to clean house and put their own people in charge. I believe Bill Clinton canned the head of the FBI and I’d be willing to bet Hillary would have canned Comey also (for similar reasons, but in the opposite direction).

However, Trump could NOT do that while people in his campaign were under investigation for collusion with the Russians. No one knew what evidence existed. To can him while evidence was accumulating would be a terrible abuse of power.

      Now fast forward to Monday.

Clapper testified that there was absolutely no evidence of collusion between Trump or people in the Trump organization having colluded with the Russians. Zero. Nada. Zilch.

      That changes the Comey math.

Instead of Trump’s political enemies “legitimately” saying that he fired Comey because the FBI had evidence against him and they were closing in, he had the cover to say there is no evidence against him and he is firing him because both parties think he is damaged goods (which of course is accurate).

The investigation will continue under different leadership, but he was not fired to avoid a Trump related indictment etc.. He was fired because he’s universally disliked and compromised on some level.

Now back to the Knicks and biased news from Isola. :-)

    30. Marbury was the best point guard on that Knicks team
Marbury was a cancer and needed to go

      Both things are true

Comey was involved in several major controversies and both Democrats and Republicans had lost confidence in his ability to execute his job in an impartial and professional manner.

Trump had every reason to fire Comey

      Both things are true

    31. Having the #2 offense in the NBA? Winning 55 games?

It’s a gimmick tho. He has guys like Ryan Anderson shooting threes from like 5 feet behind the line. Harden hunting for fouls. His system is a gimmick simply because it can’t be replicated unless he has PERFECT conditions. Look at his career.

    32. Look er, just admit you don’t like him because melo

I think they were both wrong in aspects of the relationship. I don’t blame Dantoni, because he didn’t ask for Melo. I dislike him as a coach because he’s rigid, he seeems like he’s a fine dude. I don’t hate him

    33. The warriors are a gimmick also. They just have 3 of the best shooters in NBA history. Houston doesn’t have that

    34. Clapper testified that there was absolutely no evidence of collusion between Trump or people in the Trump organization having colluded with the Russians. Zero. Nada. Zilch.

      That changes the Comey math.

He also said he didn’t know that there was an open FBI investigation. So…..

    35. His system is a gimmick simply because it can’t be replicated unless he has PERFECT conditions. Look at his career.

This is the second time D’Antoni has assembled an otherworldly, ass-kicking offense. Most of the other good offensive teams around the league follow his formula.

    36. Firing the person investigating you, when you are in charge of hiring his replacement, reeks of corruption and everybody can see that.

    37. This is the second time D’Antoni has assembled an otherworldly, ass-kicking offense. Most of the other good offensive teams around the league follow his formula.

You are definitely correct but he had the perfect pieces including 2 time MVP Nash, 2 time runner up Harden. When he was needed to do something different he failed spectacularly. And I think he’s far more gimmicky with Houston than with the suns. The Suns had a great core. Houston just shoots threes constantly

    38. Hillary e mail scandal – Outrage, Comey bad. He has to go.

Trump fires Comey- Outrage, Comey good. He has to stay.

That’s pretty high on the hypocrisy meter for me.

    39. Benghazi – SCANDAL! Must form eight million committees and spend infinite amounts of money investigating this

      RussiaGate – Meh.

There’s your hypocrisy right there, chief.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

    40. If Draymond Green is right, KP should definitely stop hanging out with Matt Harvey!

    41. D’Antoni’s Knicks tenure in a nutshell:

MD: “All I need is a PG to be the engine of my system.”

FO: “You mean like Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony?”

    42. If there’s one thing I want to avoid on my basketball forum, it’s talking about the Carmelo’s alma mater’s mascot in any capacity whatsoever

    43. MD: “All I need is a PG to be the engine of my system.”

FO: “Ok, here is Chris Duhon and the Corpse of Mike Bibby”.

    44. MD: “All I need is a PG to be the engine of my system.”

“Have you seen Toney Douglas do what Toney Douglas do?”

    45. And then when he got Lin, it pissed all the other guys off. Definitely not the easiest scenario for D’Antoni in New York.

Bizarrely, that was like heaven compared to his Lakers experience. :)

    46. The whole “the Russians hacked the election” is the dumbest political controversy I’ve seen in my life, in that it’s considered a fact by half the country, and yet not one person can articulate what it is the Russians actually did.

    47. Reading on Twitter re: Draft Combine that we are really high on Fox after interviews. If he falls to us I would be pretty stoked. Obviously not the best PG in the draft, but real high character guy which I like. Judging by Twitter the 3 guys the FO are big on are Fox, Frank and Monk.

    48. A real pg falls from the sky, much fun and winning ensues, but the ruff riders couldn’t handle an Asian kid hogging melos spotlight, so he had to go for ruff rider fat felton.

    49. Bizarrely, that was like heaven compared to his Lakers experience. :)

Yeah I think that stop made him look worse than he did on the knicks because Melo was an easy target. The lakers won a title A few years before he got there

    50. I’m really hoping for Fox. Just from the dreaded eye test and his decent ft rate, I think his shooting range will improve with strength, and that’s really his only red flag.
The last 2 mocks I read had fox and Isaac 5 and 6.
If not him I’d roll the dice on Smith Jr.
I just wish we had a solid environment for these kids to come into.

    51. @53 This proves that half of the country is stoopid and the other half is just dumb.

    52. @56 always remember how dumb the average person is, and that half the world is dumber than the average person

    53. always remember how dumb the average person is, and that half the world is dumber than the average person

      Damn.

    54. always remember how dumb the average person is, and that half the world is dumber than the average person

      George Carlin was so awesome.

    55. Carlin would have enjoyed observing and commenting on the chaos we are now living through, both as,Knick fans and US citizens, and not just because it would’be helped him professionally.

    56. Fox absolutely cannot shoot. He has no shooting range whatsoever right now, but who knows-at 7 or 8 he’d be a reasonable choice.

    57. Lol I didn’t realize I plagerized Carlin. He was a genius. Louis CK is the only modern comedian in his class. People really think Colbert and Noah are funny? I pity this generation.

    58. @61

Iirc Fox has a pretty decent long 2% and his form is fine so I don’t feel totally uncomfortable projecting at least moderate improvement in that area

He checks pretty much every other box besides shooting from range I think.

Even if he never learns how to shoot you have something like a poor man’s John Wall with better defense which is a valuable rotation player.

    59. A poor Man’s John wall will probably not be a good player. I do not think Fox has the passing ability that Wall had or even some of the other pgs in this class have. Throw on top of that the shooting concerns and you could end up with another Payton or taller Schroeder.

    60. Hillary e mail scandal – Outrage, Comey bad. He has to go.

Trump fires Comey- Outrage, Comey good. He has to stay.

That’s pretty high on the hypocrisy meter for me.

Preface: I did not vote for Clinton and spent much of the summer and fall speaking out against Clinton’s Third Way neoliberalism, which favors the global elite, and shapeshifting politics, which appear to have political expediency as their only guiding principle.

James Comey wrote a letter to congressional leaders in October informing of an investigation into Clinton’s email server. In this letter, he said that there were emails that appeared to be of interest to the investigation. Clinton was a private citizen and had no recourse against the implication of illegal behavior that the letter contained. No charges were filed and the letter, along with other missteps by the DNC and Clinton’s campaign team, led to her loss against the least-qualified presidential candidate in memory.

Yesterday, the President of the United States dismissed the director of an active investigation into possible Russian collusion with members of his own campaign team and certain tampering conducted by the Russian government.

The idea that these things are remotely similar, except insofar as they contain the words “James Comey,” is patently absurd.

The only thing you should take issue with is that Democrats are trying to rile up their base by saying that Trump “disrespected” Comey in the way he was served his termination letter. Who gives a mother fuck about that? Trump just abruptly dismissed a man who, last week, allegedly asked for more resources to investigate what appears to be illegal conduct by his associates. That is mother fucking insane.

    61. They just have 3 of the best shooters in NBA history.

      Durant, Curry and… and… and… ?

Klay Thompson is so overrated that it’s starting to get kind of gross. I appreciate his 20 point quarters as much as anyone, but that dude had 21 games with a TS% of .500 or worse this season. That’s just not “best shooter in NBA history” worthy.

Jumper looks wet from his hand, but when he’s off, he’s off.

    62. Jowles is trying to be a neutral non partisan observer and has failed.
Jowles is a Bernie boy. Bernie is a commie who got kicked out of his commune because he wouldn’t do any work. Bernie was broke but somehow bought a second house after he folded.

    63. I didn’t vote for Bernie. Nice try.

    64. Jowles, being a prog schooled in the Alinsky school of deflection, will respond by attacking my character and will accused me of being a rush Limbaugh Republican because that is what progs do.
He will also throw some prog accusations around like racist, sexist, etc because that’s all they have

    65. I did not vote for Bernie Sanders and I am not a registered Democrat, nor have I ever been.

I’m a person who criticizes people for rooting blindly for a team jersey, regardless of who represents it. You really think I’m going to be a rabid, foamy-mouthed homer for a massive political organization? Get real.

I deal with likelihoods and probabilities. It’s looking pretty likely that the Russians interfered with my country’s democracy, and probable that members of Trump’s campaign were informed of that interference.

Sanders, Clinton and Debbie Fucking Wasserman have nothing to do with this. We’re not talking about Democrats. We’re talking about the President of the God Damn United States being undoubtedly influenced by and possibly manipulated by Russian interests. Stop making this shit a Dems vs. Reps dogfight. This is bigger than that.

    66. Jowles is a libertarian from what I can tell so he’s certainly not friendly to the kind of actual commie politics that the boards resident commie, me, espouses when I’m not playing pretend capitalist GM on knickerblogger

I think it’s clear that both things can be true: there’s an element of hypocrisy to the liberal outrage here (their about-face on comey) and it’s also very disconcerting that trump would fire comey while an investigation is underway. I think the case against trump is weak even if he did do some unsavory stuff, so I’m of the opinion that trump just had a grudge and acted on it because he’s a pretty impulsive human being. There certainly should be an investigation, however.

Fox has better passing ability than his stat indicate imo–he often shared the ball with Monk and especially Briscoe in dual PG sets and the UK offense is really simplistic

    67. “It’s looking pretty likely that the Russians interfered with my country’s democracy and probable that members of Trump’s campaign were informed”
On what fucking evidence do you base this on other than the blabbering MSM and Democratic leaders and celebrities who just months ago were screaming for Comey’s resignation? So far there hasn’t been any credible evidence offered up about any of this, it sounds like a bunch of hearsay up until now- talk about patently absurd. As far as Trump firing Comey, if Hillary had won the election Comey would not have retained his position for long either.

As for the NBA draft I think we can count on the Knicks picking no higher than 7 and the player they need most being taken just before their pick, because Knicks.

    68. Well Jowles if you’re not a “team” guy I’ll give you ctedit and apologize.

    69. Jack, there is no evidence. The best they have is that somebody hacked the DNC comms. Nobody has even denied that the DNC emails that were hacked were fake. There’s no there there.

    70. I recall my apology to jowles. You’re regurgitating talking points as facts, when there is zero evidence. If you have any evidence I’d love to see it. Show me something.
