  • [NYPost] Doctor: Derrick Rose can be MVP again — and reinjure knee
    (Saturday, April 08, 2017 10:04:24 PM)

A couple of Grizzlies season-ticket holders sat courtside Friday at FedEx Forum lamenting how little Derrick Rose has played in Memphis as a pro since leaving the local university. Rose played one season at the University of Memphis, getting the Tigers to the NCAA championship game (a feat later vacated because of NCAA violations). When…

  • [NYPost] Kristaps Porzingis concerns are overtaking his hype
    (Saturday, April 08, 2017 3:20:09 PM)

Kristaps Porzingis may end his second season as he did his first one: injured. But unlike his spectacular rookie campaign, the 7-foot-3 Latvian’s sophomore year ends with more concern than boundless hope he is destined as a future top-three superstar in the league. Porzingis could miss his fourth straight game with back spasms when the…

The lesson on this last-second heave by the Memphis Grizzlies’ Wade Baldwin IV from Friday night: Never gamble. 1. Just lose this one game and we can all pretty much rest easy the rest of the season. Come on, Knicks!

    2. The last time we picked 6th it was actually a great draft to pick 6th. The 4th, 5th, and 6th picks in that draft have had better careers than picks 1, 2, and 3 in the draft. Hopefully this time we don’t trade that player and 2 1st round draft picks for Andrew Wiggins in a couple years.

That draft was really strange. Mike Beasley, OJ Mayo, and Derrick Rose might have the lowest collective IQ of the top 3 picks in any draft. Looking back you see how those mistakes were made. Talent was foolishly valued over everything.

    3. I read that the Mavs are honoring Tony Romo by suiting him up for their final home game.
In that spirit, let’s up that and sign, suit up, and play Clyde, Earl Monroe, Willis Reed, Jerry Lucas, and, in a magnanimous gesture Charles Oakley.

    4. Also here’s a great video (albeit in French) that displays Dennis Smith Jr’s ability to play defense. With him it’s not really a motivation thing as much as it is that he can get lazy with his technique. But when he is engaged and is sound in his technique the kid is an absolute nightmare defensively. Length is cool, but it is way less important than effort, strength, agility, and lateral quickness on defense. Dennis Smith can pick up ball handlers full court and press them no problem. His pick and roll defense is superb as he consistently puts himself in position to get over a screen with his footwork. Watching a couple of these French videos on Dennis Smith makes me love his potential as our point guard, but I just know Philly picking ahead of us will screw everything up because they need perimeter shooting. I’m just hoping we either pick ahead of Philly or Malik Monk lights up his workout in Philadelphia and they wanna make Ben Simmons their point guard anyway.

The only thing that worries me about DSJr is the way he lands off dunks. He had a tendency to land one legged and that type of shock is going to add up if he doesn’t change that. If the Knicks are the team to draft him I will be in his twitter mentions and Instagram comments every day.

I had questions about his defense that I have my answers to already. DSJr is officially my favorite pick at anything after #2 where we can land Fultz or Ball.

    5. @5 Thanks for that video. DSJ is now my favorite anklebreaker in the draft. He has all of the defensive attributes to excel in the NBA and his offense is as good as anybody’s. His footwork, posture and rebounding look excellent and I can see him becoming a triple double machine. He’s Kyle Lowry on steroids. The only question is whether he will put in this kind of defensive effort all or most of the time but he sure has it in him.

    6. We can cherry pick all the videos we want showing how he *can* be a competent defender but the fact of that matter is he was a total zero on the defensive end for the vast majority of the year and that ought to be considered a red flag

    7. I know WS is not really the best way to evaluate a college player but I would be very cautious drafting a .142 player with questionable defense with the 6th pick.

And haven’t we learned nothing with the “Melo can be a good defender when motivated”?

Yeah, it can be good occasionally on a national TV game but the rest of the season leaves a lot to be desired.

    8. Allow me to dream:

      Blake and Redick leave Clippers
We trade melo, Lee and O’quinn to Clips for picks
We sign Noel, Hayward and Caldwell-Pope
      Draft Ball or Fox.

      Thank you
