Unless there is really hard evidence, I’m still thinking that there are going to be consequences, just nothing all that extreme. Probably just enough so that it won’t be worth the negative publicity of going to arbitration. 10-20 games for Kawhi, couple of million in fines for the Clips plus loss of a future pick or two.
The CBA does say that just the appearance of collusion is enough, but I’m sure Ballmer is heavily protesting having a big penalty when there is no written proof of intention. But the NBA needs a stiff penalty, both because everybody believes it was intentional circumvention and because they have to discourage other owners doing something similar.
