    Funny, I just so happened to rewatch all the Charlie Murphy/Chappelle skits last night, and they’re still amazing.

    bowfinger, trading places and beverly hills cop were all good, would put 48 hours up though as murphy’s best movie…

    probably have rewatched boomerang the most of all his movies…

    neither the kids nor I ever really got in to the shrek stuff…

    Apparently he never considered the unintended consequences of being a knicks fan. I think in his young mind (he’s only 7) he felt as if he was choosing between his father and his mother, and this gave him a lot of stress. I had to backtrack pretty quickly and let him know it’s ok to like both teams.

    Dog days of summer so I apologize for this diatribe BUT it is Interesting you bring this up Hubert. It’s something that has been front of mind for the past few months. I promise I’m not trying to be morose but I’m mentally preparing for an obituary that I’m dreading.

    My old man is 96 and, after an otherwise healthy and wonderful existence, is finally showing his age. He moved here in the late 50’s and the Yankees famously were one of the last teams to integrate. They were branded racists by Dominicans of his era. You might recall Raul Mondesi echoed this stupid sentiment a couple of decades ago. As if every team didn’t participate until it otherwise became beneficial.

    Anyways, my dad would shove the idea of being a Mets fan down my throat growing up. Only I was too young to understand the concept of sports so in my “young mind” I correlated batting with the Yankees and pitching with Mets. So when friends/family would ask me who I rooted for I would say the Yankees because what kid doesn’t like to bat? People would laugh at him because he’s notoriously obsessed with the sport. This shit infuriated him to no end which in turn filled me with immense joy for some perverse reason. Kids could be dicks too! As I grew up, Mattingly cemented my fandom.

    As opposed to my other siblings who don’t follow the sport, I’ve had the incredible blessing of talking to him daily. Sports are the one thing that transcends generational divisions. 90% of our conversations revolve around needling each other over wins, losses, transactions, etc. but it gave us excuses to talk. Picture you and Zman, only less cordial.

    I bring this up to say that even if your boy was to go down a dark path and follow Pat the Rat, it isn’t the end of the world man. Shit, you might be richer for it in the end. Imagine all the mudslinging when the Knicks eventually overtake them and have more championships!

    When Eddie Murphy won the Mark Twain prize a few years ago, he gave an acceptance speech that was basically a short format standup monologue. And it was so goddamned good and so funny. It was an attack on Bill Cosby, who he had feuded with in the past, and it was absolutely savage, the definitive last word in their beef.

    The homophobic stuff in both Delirious and Raw is pretty tough to forgive though. Both of those concert films have great bits in them, but they are both completely ruined by that nasty, hacky, BADLY dated material.

    In that same vein, I started thinking about Damon Wayans. I remember he had a couple of comedy specials on HBO that were fucking hilarious. So I went down the In Living Color rabbit hole and most of them hold up. I know, like Eddie, he took a turn towards more family friendly material but the dude was on top of is game back then.

    He’s going to be at West Nyack in September and I am debating whether to go. I don’t know if he still has some zip on that fastball.

    Knicks and Giggles don’t ever apologize for sharing, my friend! That’s what we’re here for. Especially in August.

    This community is actually one of the first places I ever opened up about my son. I still remember it vividly. It was like 2am, I was in the midst of a week long nervous breakdown, sleeping in an airstream in montauk, high on mushrooms, avoiding reality as long as I could, and I decided a community of online Knicks fans would be the second group of people I opened up to after my immediate family. It was quite helpful. The next day I woke up and began embracing my new reality with an open heart.

    Oddly enough, that night in the airstream I was dwelling on a random comment Donnie Walsh had made about fatherhood a decade ago here.

    Not gonna lie, I’m a little nervous I pushed the knicks too much on the little guy this summer. Kids sense eagerness. And apperntly they don’t like being made to watch game 4 again instead of Sponge Bob.

    Honestly, though, I was just so disappointed that my visitation schedule started 6 days after the Finals ended. Everyone in my community here was watching the Knicks outside with their kids, the mayor canceled bedtime, all the kids were having a blast, it killed me to not have him here for it. So I kinda rammed it down his throat by accident! My bad.

    You know what’s funny, btw? I think — actually I don’t think, I know — this was a major reason I was losing my mind about Mitch & the second apron a week after the title.

    I was feeling emotions because I didn’t get to have that experience with my boy, and in my head I was like “run it back! it needs to happen again!”

    It’s ok, though. We won’t repeat but we’re going to win the 2028 title after Leon figures out how to retain Deuce and add a backup Center.

    About that… here’s an actual basketball comment… I’m increasingly infatuated with JK47’s guy, Karlo Matkovic… we should definitely get him.

    I’ve been obsessed with Matkovic for about six months now, even when ridiculed for it mid-season. LOL

    OK, maybe not *obsessed*. He’s basically a younger Drum, and we need a defense-first guy.

    I see Matkovic as a pretty different type of player from Drummond. In limited minutes he posted a genuinely elite block percentage, and unlike Drummond he has excellent mobility. He can run and jump. Good roll man, gets hella dunks. Floor stretching ability seems legit.

    His weaknesses are that he’s not a super strong guy and is a mediocre rebounder for a center, and he has had mental lapses leading to him being branded as a low-IQ defender. The former flaw is maybe not all that fixable, but the latter, the low IQ part, seems like it could be coached up.

    If you had BOTH Drummond and Matkovic, that’s a pretty good backup C platoon.

    Looking up Matkovic details, I read that after being drafted in 2022, he went back to play in Europe for a year and a half. Then he got a US two way contract and this July was signed to a full minimum contract. This was nice to see, because all the Knicks draft and stashes that I remember have never played a minute in the NBA. It’s nice to know somebody made it into the NBA.

    Not sure Mat is “gettable,” anyway. They seem to like him, as they just chose to get rid of Hunter Dickinson, who plays the same position.

    I actually think Mat is more of a PF, too. He’s “only” 6-10, and he played 65 percent of his time at the PF position last season. It seems to make sense for the 3-point shooting and other “wing-type” things that he does versus blocking shots, etc.

    Doogie it seems they released Dickenson specifically to sign Malik Dia, an undrafted free agent big who impressed them in the summer league. That doesn’t speak very highly of Dickenson.

    I did a little digging on Pelicans blogs, though, and their fans seem to believe Joe Dumars has a serious case of endowment bias that would make it hard for us to acquire Mat (or Missi for that matter). The comments on the article about Dia were full of humorous references like “he’s already untouchable”, “we think he’s worth two first round picks”, and “we wouldn’t trade him for anyone except Wemby… maybe.”

    Matkovic is in the final year of his rookie contract. A second round pick should be enough to acquire the guy. But if Dumars thinks everyone on his team is a star then not much you can do. (I assumed he was the guy who leaked the news Leon “feverishly” inquired about Missi — the adverb always seemed dubious.)

    BREAKING: Cleveland, Denver and the Clippers have agreed on a trade sending Peyton Watson to the Cavaliers, Max Strus to LA, and an unprotected 2031 Cavs first-round pick and a 2032 Kings second-rounder to the Nuggets, sources tell ESPN.

    Watson will sign a new four-year, $88 million deal to join the Cavaliers, plus a player option and a trade kicker.

    Definitely a second-apron move by the Nuggets.

    Man, you gotta wonder how long Jokic is willing to put up with this before he pulls a Giannis.

    Jokic should consider leaving . The window is pretty much shut. Aaron Gordon isn’t going to clean up all the issues on defense they have.

    As part of the deal, the Cavaliers are sending Tre Mann, the 2027 second-rounder from the Clippers and cash to the Washington Wizards for Cam Whitmore, sources said. The Wizards also are sending Julian Reese to the Nuggets, who will waive Reese off his two-way deal.

    Mann fills a positional need as the Wizards have searched for an additional guard in recent weeks — while the Cavaliers gain a smaller salary in Whitmore to create optionality under the first apron.

    Most likely outcome is he stays with Denver, but he should absolutely be looking to get off the sinking ship and I don’t think anybody would blame him for doing so.

    The Denver Nuggets summer has now officially gone from a C- or D+ to an F.

    I don’t really know how to justify this one to fans. The only thing a 2031 1st rounder does for them is open up the Stepien rule for Denver to trade their own 2031 1st round pick.

    Not getting back a player is entirely because the Nuggets are over the second apron. They couldn’t do it legally, and it now costs them their ability to make a trade that benefits the Nuggets in the near term.

    Immediate reaction: horrible outcome and one that Denver fans should be concerned about.

    I’m surprised the Nuggets are taking heat on this. I think they fleeced the Cavs.

    The math is important here: if they had signed Watson to this deal (and filled out the roster with a vet min player at $2.4M), it would have cost them $200M in tax & salary.

    Watson had one great month when Jokic was hurt and then got hurt himself. He might not be good.

    I’d watch what they do next. They got an unprotected 2031 pick from Cleveland and have their own unprotected 2033 pick.

    We’ll probably see those picks packaged with Christian Braun and/or Cam Johnson for someone more ready to win now than Watson.

    It’s the Knicks job to make the unprotected Cleveland pick as juicy as possible by beating them every chance we get.

    When you factor in the guys Cleveland had to give up to get under the apron, the “trade” ends up being Dean Wade, Max Strus, Keon Ellis, Dennis Schroeder, a 2031 first, and a second round pick (not to mention whatever contract they end up having to pay Harden for taking a paycut)… all to gamble that Watson’s one good month was a real breakout.

    As a Knicks fan, I’m not exactly quaking in my boots.
