Most folks here are ride or die Knicks supporters. OAKAAK believers too.
Why is it that in sports we can easily criticize our favorite team. I mean the entire organization from top to bottom and laugh about it but we can never do this with our politics?
It’s like living in the world where everyone of your friends is still a Frank Knilitkina apologist and no one ever moved on to say…”yeah, that wasn’t one of my smartest ideas” and laugh about it…
I’ll go first. – I voted for DeBlasio both times.
That’s a great post, Director. Political leanings are never as cut and dry as Frank, though. They’re more like Leon Rose. Some folks won’t tolerate you talking about the ghastly mistakes he’s made bc they think the focus should be entirely on how much better off we are than with the last guy. It’s an illogical, fear-based position based on inability to be comfortable with a dialectic. Perhaps it’s unsurprising then that I was the only one who agrees with you.
i dont think that anyone here is trying to beautify charlie kirk beatify maybe but not beautify and if they are trying to beatify him they shouldnt be doing that either besides i think that maybe only the pope can do that anyway

Well, it’s been fun, boys and boys. Catch you when training camp starts, I hope.

Yeah, if it’s politics, i close the thread. See you tomorrow.
Wait, there’s big news, though:
The Knicks are also considering adding Trey Jemison III to the training camp roster, sources told Ian Begley of SNY.
His -7.3 bpm last year in 226 minutes sounds promising. Also:
The Knicks also still have two two-way spots to fill and are looking at players outside of the organization for those roles.
Intriguing.

If the Knicks lose to the Celtics, a lot of my friends and family’s marriages won’t become illegal, my youngest will never be able to use a public restroom without harassment, my daughter will lose access to birth control, and I’ll have to work to the age of 69.
People like sports (and other entertainment) to allow them to forget the pain and troubles of life. If you net you life savings and everything you know on a Knicks game, I don’t think you’d be laughing much if they lose.
I have an uncle who is very temperate and calm demeanor. The only time I’ve seen him lose his shit in my whole life is a Vikings MNF football game where he obviously had money on the Vikings.

Brogdon can probably be useful if he’s healthy. He potentially can serve as a backup PG.
I have to imagine he still gets enough offers that he only comes here if he has a good shot at making the roster.
Thinking the plan is still to move Kolek, and now I’m betting on Brogdon & Shamet taking the last 2 spots
I am 99% on board with the no politics consensus, with my minor reservation being that we have so many smart, nuanced thinkers here I wouldn’t hate if we had a separate way to respectfully discuss current events, shall we say, when actual Knicks news is slow. The risk of spillover is probably just too high, though, so Garrison Mathews takes it is.
The fact that someone like Shamet has to fight for a roster spot is a pretty strong indicator it’s time for either expansion and/or a rather dramatic rethinking of the CBA, right? I’m under no illusions about him as a player, but prior to this CBA and the attendant apron restrictions that would’ve been inconceivable, IMO. He’s a 28 year-old bona fide shooter who has even held his own in the playoffs!
Thinking the plan is still to move Kolek, and now I’m betting on Brogdon & Shamet taking the last 2 spots
Yeah, a team like Washington would probably give up a 2nd rounder for Kolek, right?
I generally still like him and don’t mind his price in a bubble, but we shouldn’t have a guy eating up a roster spot who isn’t a net positive and doesn’t have playoff experience. And although I like Kolek, I’m guessing we can find a pretty similar player to him in any draft.
I would have been satisfied with the news that Shamet and Mathews will battle it out, but adding Brogdon at this stage for the price we got him is icing on the cake. It does add a glut in the backcourt, but if he’s healthy- it’s a steal in the sense that we have the flexibility to trade someone for a cleaner fit in addition to his on-court value. The question for me is whether or not this is a true vet min deal.
I may be looking too far ahead, but if he can still defend some, he may start in place of Hart. That would make this team extremely dangerous and deep. We still need a true POA defender though. Who knows? Maybe Brunson works at it this season? Bridges wasn’t good in that role last season, while OG was better at it. But I feel like our defense would be better with them roaming(mostly OG) and defending wings. We just need someone to not hemorrhage points at the POA. Or maybe we can afford to start Deuce now that Brogdon’s on board and have a savvy bench led by Hart, Clarkson, Brogdon, and Yabusele who will push the pace.
What say you?
[Knicks news led me to return. Hoping we can stick to that for a bit.]
Even though Shamet, Brogdon, and Matthews are all non-guaranteed (Matthews on a training camp contract) and theoretically competing for one spot, it feels like the team wouldn’t have done this if there wasn’t a plan to keep two of them. So someone has to be moved to create enough space under the apron. Possibilities, in order of likelihood:
1. Kolek. This is the no-brainer. He seems much further away than he should, given his age, and the playmaking alone isn’t enough if he can’t defend and also can’t shoot. Could we get anything for him, or would we have to use a second to dump him?
2. Dadiet. I don’t think the FO would be ready to cut bait on a guy who’s a project with genuine upside. That said, if Leon believes that this is the year, then they can’t necessarily wait on Dadiet if it costs them a player who can definitely play this season. And we could definitely get something back for him, given how in-demand his archetype is. Probably not another first, but maybe a protected first that becomes two seconds?
3. Deuce. I’d be surprised but not 100% shocked if this happens. He was Thibs’ guy, and I think the team could get real value for someone with his talent and contract. Might be a case of making room for more vets while also rebuilding the asset chest for a year or two from now.
Brogdon is Mr. Glass. Trading our youth before our new coach has had an opportunity to closely examine them is really shortsighted.

This is painful for me because I really really like Kolek’s game and Dadiet’s potential with his true wing size. But…Deuce is also still young and worthy, and Dink Pate has potential with a higher floor than Dadiet at the same size.
I say bank on Brogdon and Shamet being reliable enough and send Kolek to GS, Utah, or Milwaukee for a 2nd. Between Deuce, Brogdon, and Clarkson- we have more than enough good guard play when Brunson sits or is injured. Kolek is probably a little more than a luxury than Dadiet is at this point.
Kolek and Dadiet are at the bottom of the value curve. Dadiet has some intrigue curiosity, but GM’s will not be parting with a scrappy 2nd rounder for our currently unexceptional bench youth. Deuce…sure. But is that the right move?
It’s the dog days of the offseason and not much is happening basketball-wise. There’s only so much juice you can squeeze from the Landry Shamet turnip. Nature abhors a vacuum and all that.
I’m hesitant to compare Kolek to Frank Ntilikina because the former has some NBA level skills, but even though I hate the concept of cutting bait on a young player for someone like Brogdon, I’m afraid that like Ntilikina, Kolek suffers from a lack of absolutely crucial skills that place a very hard cap on his upside.
There was a time you could be a rotation guard in the NBA even if you couldn’t score, like, at all, but I think it has come and gone. Kolek will be 25 when the playoffs start so it’s getting late early for him in terms of learning how to do things like “make layups.”
All this to say, it would be dishonest of me to claim to be all that bent out of shape if we salary dump him to make room for someone clearly better than him in the present.
Per SNY’s Ian Begley, Brogdon’s deal is non-guaranteed and he will compete with Landry Shamet for a backup point guard role if the Knicks don’t make a trade because they only have one roster spot open.
This confirms we can only hire one of them. We also haven’t signed a rookie, which we need to do (if we don’t make a trade) to free up space) but maybe weal are waiting to see rookie performance in training camp.
Sorry but I’m excited about Brogdon. Sure, maybe he doesn’t make the roster or is more of a dud than Kemba Walker was. But I can envision him in the rotation.
We can only hire one of them now. When it was just Shamet and Matthews, it was easy to assume it was two guys competing for one spot. But when it’s three guys — one of whom doesn’t play exactly the same position as the other two — it now feels like a move made with at least one other move in mind. If we can unload Kolek (or Dadiet) without taking back salary, we can sign two of these guys and still have room left for Diawara or Nnaji on the rookie minimum deal.
Noble, you could be absolutely right that Kolek will never score baskets in the NBA, but there’s an alternative reality explanation that could be in operation. Which is the Thibs Effect.
Kolek shot 33% from the field and 30% from three, although 76% from the foul line, last year.
Deuce McBride in his first year shot 30% from the field and 25% from three, while at 67% from the foul line.
Thibs threw his rookie guards in for the last two minutes of blow-outs, where they had maybe one chance to chuck up a shot out of rhythm while everyone else was trying to chuck up THEIR shot before the buzzer. It was a terrible way to showcase talent.
I very much feel that the jury is still out on Kolek. He was a quite decent shooter in college. That may not translate, but I don’t think any of us can say with any certainty at this point.
Thought Leon did the same last year and Shamet just won the spot.
What if they all just really have to compete for last couple of roster spots, (including Kolek and maybe Dadiet) instead of being handed to someone for something they did 3 years ago?
If the Knicks lose to the Celtics, a lot of my friends and family’s marriages won’t become illegal, my youngest will never be able to use a public restroom without harassment, my daughter will lose access to birth control, and I’ll have to work to the age of 69.
Yeah but I’d argue those things are largely happening bc not enough of us are compelling the democratic party to put together a sensible platform that actually appeals to Americans.
There weren’t enough Bobs in America to get Trump elected twice. He needed us to push people large swaths of people towards him. And we obliged. We always oblige.
So the Brooks Nielsen record I was talking about the other day has been released. I co-wrote three tunes, played a ton of instruments, and mixed the whole thing. Here’s one of the co-writes. I played most instruments on this as well, including everything in the little coda section at the end:

Him too! 1-year deal.
Does he have anything at all left in the tank?
