There’s an interesting level of double-douche-irony over LeBron, who has made quite the living off of people’s civic pride, Tone-deaf dissing multiple cities, including his own Cleveland. May his retirement tour next year consist primarily of boos.
And now they’ve shut down Austin. This season has really collapsed into an endless series of pathetic, unsightly, and largely uninteresting conspiracy theories. Makes me want to teleport to a Waffle House.
And RIP Tom Valenti, who I was buds with since 4th grade….
I’m sorry to hear that, Raven
Raven, used to go to Ouest when it was open. Great earthy food ( like my favorite chef Jonathan Waxman) by a master chef. Sorry for your loss.
LeBron the public personality still hasn’t quite caught up to LeBron the basketball player. At least he’s stable, as far as we know, compared to other adults who were superstars since childhood.
Thoughts on Stat making the Hall of Fame? The basketball hall has a much lower barrier to entry compared to ones for most other sports. And Stat was great in Phoenix. But still, doesn’t feel quite right? Maybe?
Damn, Raven, so young.
Alan, he’s a borderline case at best. Not really worthy in my opinion, but not outrageous.
I do remember seeing Amar’e as a rookie (I think) at MSG and being wowwed by how athletic he was, rising over everyone else for massive dunks. And for a few short months after we acquired him, he was a legit MVP candidate, scoring at will from everywhere but 3.
Comparing Mitch Richmon and STAT (in) to Shawn Kemp, Brad Daugherty, Tom Chambers, and Shawn Marion (Out), it seems like games played, the Rookie of the Year award, and All-NBA selections matter; perhaps you also need a minimum of 5 All-Star appearances.
Ppl complain about T-Mac because he was derailed by age 30, but he had racked up more accomplishments than anyone above by then.
Someone older than me will need to explain how good Michael Cooper was, because I do not get that one.
Michael Cooper was an extraorinary tough defensive player and a very good 3pt shooter for his day. Rarely missed a game, and played starter’s minutes off the bench for one of the best teams in history. Would probably be great in today’s game. He was an integral part of 5 championship teams. Definitely benefitted from team success, and I don’t think of him as HOF-level though. But he was really, really good. Gave Larry Bird fits.
If one considers that defense is half the game, Shawn Marion is every bit the HOFer that STAT is.
At 6-6, he was one of the best non center defenders in the history of the game. He was the primary match up vs Michael Jordan and Larry Bird (He was known even giving up3 inches to be Bird’s toughest match up).
He was 5 time defensive first team all NBA and 3 times defensive second team all NBA and defensive player of the year once. The defensive side of the ball should get some respect.
He was a good offensive player, but with Magic, Jabbar, Worthy and Byron Scott, he wasn’t a prime option.

the hall of fame includes basketball play outside the nba…
Yeah, Geo, but it’s not like Stat had an impressive college career like Carmelo or Bill Walton that would make him a no doubt choice when combined with his NBA career.
been leaning in for the last whatever months on a new way of dealing with anxiety management – i clean…
never underestimate the extreme and desperate lengths folks will go to in order to achieve some ‘semblance of peace…
maybe not the same for everyone, but to me at least, surprisingly tiring and seemingly unceasing list of activities…
okay…
be kind to me al, just survived spring break with all 3 kiddos, and the pooch on a vaca…
okay, the reality is, this whole post is one thousand percent some insecure and desperate for approval thing and parenting flex…
first trip without the kids mom (not too keen on traveling with the little cutie dog)…
stayed at this businessy place that was doing some meeting thing – folks were so jelly of the dog, and silently commiserating on being surrounded by a bunch of young ones with their face stuck to their phone screen all the time…
hope all is well on this fine sunday for you mister al, and with plenty of time to do as you please…
I hope the Raptors show up against the Celtics today. Would be nice to go into our game with the C’s with a chance to catch them.
Coop was a winning, underrated, versatile player but doesn’t seem quite like a HOF guy to me. Dude could ball though.
Although I guess “in the Hall Of Fame” seems to cancel out my claim of “underrated.”
Yeah, for sure everyone who watched those teams knew how good Coop was. There were some great 6th men in that era…Coop, McHale (although he started plenty), Vinnie and Eddie Johnson, and, talk about underrated, Ricky Pierce.
Unfortunately Raptors had a snow ball’s chance in hell of winning at Boston today.
The worse part is that everyone in NYK organization knows this shit like 18 months now but they don’t try to fix. Start Deuce, Shamet or my favorite Mitch Robinson (actually improves the loss of rebounding) instead of Josh Hart.
Unless, this the secret weapon type moved being saved for playoffs…
Pretty much. The data is large on that unit and that lineup has played over 1000 minutes this season again and has a negative rating against good teams.
maybe they just need to try harder…and yeah, at least they’re not quitters right…
who knows, maybe during that one thousandth and first minute it will all magically click for them…
or you know, just start mitch cuz it’s the playoffs and we need to get it together to start games…
Going to be interesting who gets Lakers Round 1
Hornets- Timberpups is a good game
Pelicans beating Orlando for now and Franz is back…
Flagg going for 50 in b2b games
I feel like if D’Anthony Melton, or any other defensibly competent modern era player, had a Freaky Friday moment and found themselves teleported onto the Showtime Lakers, he too would be in the basketball hall of fame right now.
Cooper was good, though. One of the best 3rd round picks ever.
