hubies (and my) zubak with 18 and 19 last nite embid with 32/15/10 in the win over rockets and wolves on a slide similar to our own and now down in the playin in the west

Draymond may actually need to talk less about Towns and help Curry on offense . 10 points in 45 minutes in the last two games.

Timberwolves unfortunately play in the loaded West . Clippers are the 10th seed with Kawhi, Harden and Zubac. Mavs would a playoff team in the East

drays value has never been in his pointspg he has only averaged over 10 points in four of his 14 seasons and the last time was 8 years ago when he averaged 11 average over his entire career is 8.7

Embiid looking good makes the Sixers a real threat . 46 minutes played last night. Even in an OT game that’s a good amount of minutes.

yeah sixers been a threat with maxy and edgy all season and now even moreso that embid is playing regularly the big question is whether or not he can still be playing regularly in aprilmay history sez no hes rounding into peak embid form just as we are about to play against him ons saturday of course dont have a good feeling about this next game for us

    1

Not like they need Embiid to come out of the East anyway. East sucks.

Then again, it might kill Maxey. League-leading 39.5mpg. Mikal thought he had it bad.

Yea I think they def need Embiid to win the East. Maxey and whoever isn’t winning it. He changes the defense for them and they lack size.

This is the first time in a while that the Knicks have two days off between games twice in a row. It has been a long, grueling stretch of games with not a lot of days off and lots of travel. My hope is that all this emotional stuff is rooted in/exacerbated by fatigue, and a win on Saturday would go a long way towards rebuilding the confidence that we were playing with earlier in the season. Everyone is reasonably healthy (although my guess is that Brunson and Hart are still not 100%) and maybe the players-only meeting both cleared the air and sent a message to Mike Brown to adjust his game plan and to STFU in postgame pressers and stop fraternizing with asshole opponents.

hate to say it but 6ers mite have handled embids rampup perfectly he played in only 7 of their first 19 games and 13 of their first 30 games prior to playing in 11 of their last 13 (28 ppg in 34 mpg in those 11 games)

    2

Oh, they definitely need Embiid. But also, with the East the way it is… do they?

I imagine they’re shopping Grimes who can’t be happy there after the off-season negotiations. Plus, they have too many guards. He’s not an option for us, but curious to see if/where he goes.

Mccain has been struggling this season after starting the year with an injury. Probably a trade candidate as well. Even if he bounces back, they have Edgecombe as a short wing.

maxy edgy grimey mcain oubrey lowrey and they still have erik gordon too indeed thats a lot of guards (admittedly lowrey never plays anymore)

    1

Without Embiid the 76ers are a play in team at best. Nurse is even worse than Thibs when it comes to his best players mins, wouldn’t be surprised if Embiid breaks down again soon and will have to sit out for an extended period of time.

    partial from sam amick/athletic:
According to league and team sources, the Knicks have not engaged in any discussions about a possible Towns trade this season and plan on persevering with him during this challenging time. That intel is consistent with what Dolan said in his interview, when he insisted that “This group can win a championship; I believe that.”

What’s more, let’s remember that team president Leon Rose was Towns’ former agent at Creative Artists Agency and, as such, has the sort of deep personal ties that played a pivotal part in bringing him from Minnesota to New York in the first place. Towns is owed $57 million next season and has a player option for the 2027-28 campaign worth $61 million.

But the Giannis Antetokounmpo possibility that emerged in the offseason, in which it was revealed the Milwaukee Bucks big man has a genuine interest in calling the Garden his basketball home, couldn’t have done much for Towns’ confidence in the security of his Knicks seat, no matter how many times the franchise downplays the possibility of a move actually happening.

Given all of that, it seems the chosen way out is for the Knicks, and Brown most of all, to help Towns find his way. Towns simply must be better than this recent stretch from Dec. 31 to Jan. 19, when he averaged just 17.9 points (43.7 percent overall, 33.3 percent from 3), 10.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.3 turnovers while the Knicks went 2-8 in those games in which he played. He was on the wrong side of the plus-minus ledger in eight of those games, when his looks (13.5 shots per contest) dipped well below his volume from his banner season in 2024-25, when he averaged 24.4 points on 16.9 shots, while shooting 52.6 percent overall and 42 percent from three, to go with 12.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.7 turnovers.

The Knicks knew there would be an adjustment period going from the fired Tom Thibodeau to Brown, and that Towns was likely to suffer more growing pains than the rest because of his comfort level with the former coach and a different system with the new one. But if they’re going to climb their way back into legitimate title contender status, they desperately need Towns to get his groove back.

mikhail barely ever going to the ft line (1.1 times pg; 0.0308 per minute) is a problem but its not isolated to him duece is at 1.2 (0.0422 pm) clarks is at 1.4 (0.0733 pm) heart is at 1.7 (0.0569 pm)

    1

Embiid looking like he’s rounding back into form makes tomorrow’s game that much tougher. A blowout loss to them and we are back into panic mode. 😉

    1

Given all of that, it seems the chosen way out is for the Knicks, and Brown most of all, to help Towns find his way.

    Reasonable but myopic.

There’s more seasons than this one. And if the Knicks think being in a trade rumor for fucking Giannis was enough to disrupt KAT’s fragile mindset, what do they think is going to happen if they don’t give him an extension this summer?

If you’re not willing to extend him (and god help us if we are), then just get it over with. I’ve been a Knicks fan long enough to know what the universe is going to do if we bury our head in the sand and hope things get better.

The levee has broken and the water is rising. Hoping KAT figures it out is like waiting for god to save you. We’ve already said no to the canoe and the motorboat. This is the helicopter, and we should get in it before this MFer drowns us all.

    4

I don’t think whether Leon wants to extend KAT or not should have any bearing on whether he is traded or not. Like, none whatsoever.

KAT has another year and then a massive player option that he will surely exercise left on his contract. No one is clamoring for his services, and that will only get worse if he sulks. He has zero leverage. He’s not Giannis, or anything close.

He should only be traded in a deal that either bails on the short term, i.e. on the chance of winning now to defer to winning later, or in a deal that immediately improves the team. Otherwise, stand pat and draft better with the picks we have this summer, or make helpful trades to fortify the bench.

maybe it should and maybe it shouldnt but it definitely seemed to in the cases of quickly and grimey so there is a history of it being a consideration for him

    1

That’s like saying you don’t think gangrene should have any bearing on whether you amputate your foot because you’ve still got a whole leg.

at the end of game between houston and philly tyrese maxey was the best player on the court…and there were a bunch of good players out there competing…

can’t imagine that paul george and embiid will both stay healthy for the rest of the season and playoffs…feels real low probability…

thing is, the longer those two do stay on the court and get used to playing with the team, the better philly is going to play…

barlow and watford have been helping them a bunch…

My 6-year old son, who is really getting into the Knicks right now, brought home a book called “New York Knicks”, by Jim Gigliotti, from his school library.

    Some highlights:

The cover photo is Emmanuel Mudiay dribbling.

First paragraph: “The Knicks have had many great players. They have had many great moments. And they have had many good, but usually not great, teams. That is the good news and the bad news”.

Another photo of Emmanuel Mudiay shooting over JJ Redick.

    First non-Mudiay photo: Noah Vonleh.

    Fourth photo: Kevin Knox.

Later on, in the section “Heroes Now”:

“The Knicks have high hopes for young forward Kevin Knox. (…) Knox was only 19 when he made his debut. He has become a solid all-around player. Point guard Dennis Smith runs the offense. His passing fuels the Knicks offense”.

Ok, which one of you guys is Jim Gigliotti?

Also: should I start letting my son watch OKC games instead?

PSA: do NOT click on Michael Pina’s article about trading KAT. Pina (who must be the David Vertsberger of The Ringer) recommends the following two trades:

    Bucks get: KAT
Knicks get: Myles Turner, Kyle Kuzma, a pick

(Furthermore he suggests the Bucks would be insane to do this trade.)

    But wait there’s more…

    Rockets get: Jalen Brunson
Knicks get: FVV, Dorian Finney-Smith, 6 1st round picks

(And he described this one as ludicrous for Houston.)

maybe it should and maybe it shouldnt but it definitely seemed to in the cases of quickly and grimey so there is a history of it being a consideration for him

I assume you’re talking about trading players before a contract extension.

Leon’s philosophy seems to be spending big on the top end talent and hoping Walt Perrin finds useful deep bench players.

For Grimes & IQ, whom Leon didn’t consider top end talent, he didn’t want to give them pay raises. The 2nd contract is often the least efficient because upside is still baked into the monetary deal. So players go from one of the most efficient contracts to a very inefficient contract.

On the other hand, KAT is top end talent. Leon will be more willing to spend on him, and Leon doesn’t have the issue of a big increase in pay (as a percentage of salary cap) that exists when a talented player goes from their rookie deal to their 2nd contract.

I don’t endorse this as what should happen, but I do think this is part of why they do it and why the situation with KAT differs.

    1

    Bucks get: KAT
Knicks get: Myles Turner, Kyle Kuzma, a pick

So many people love Kuzma but he’s just terrible at NBA basketball

    Rockets get: Jalen Brunson
Knicks get: FVV, Dorian Finney-Smith, 6 1st round picks

(And he described this one as ludicrous for Houston.)

My god, why does he think we’re trying to blow it up?

for orlando first franz wanger was playing and morriss wagner wasnt now morriss is playing and franz isnt i think that orlando is trying to pull the wool over everyones eyes they are really just one guy and thats why we never see them both on the court at the same time

“So many people love Kuzma but he’s just terrible at NBA basketball”

i dont think its that true anymore

I think KAT is intelligent to know his situation. I totally that he’s frustrated with Brown (and has some good reasons to be) and with his teammates (his reasons are less sound here.) I think he wants to win very badly, and he wants to win here. I also think he wants to be loved and respected.

Where I think he falls short is that he whines and passive-aggressively sulks, both on and off the court. NY has never taken kindly to whiners and sulkers, especially highly paid underperforming whiners and sulkers. Going on with his BS about not knowing his role, or about having to sacrifice and adjust more than anyone else, is damaging to his standing with teammates, coaches, fans, and the media. If he just hustles on every play, learns from glaring and preventable mistakes, and stops screaming at refs while making the same assumptions about how the game should be called vs. how it actually is being called, he’d be more loved, and he might really help this team go far.

Additionally, he needs to be told point blank that he is not a true “max” player (if he prefers, shop him and then tell him what teams are offering for him, or tell his agent to feel free shop him behind the scenes). Tell him that, as not a max-caliber player, he is subject to being situationally benched when his play as a whole is detrimental to winning. If he complains, rub his nose in a film montage of his doing specific things incorrectly compared to other bigs doing the same exact things correctly. For example, show him comparison of him using his right arm to hook defenders when he drives left, vs. other bigs making the same move and drawing a foul, or at least not committing one. Show him how other bigs go vertical rather than leaning or reaching in. Show him how other bigs get back in transition.

“That’s like saying you don’t think gangrene should have any bearing on whether you amputate your foot because you’ve still got a whole leg.”

Sorry, I fail to get the analogy. KAT may be a lot of things, and not a lot of other things, but he’s nothing like a rotting mound of flesh attached to a live body.

I watched some vids from the Lakers – Clips game, and my God, is the Lakers defense abominable. We may complain about Brunson’s defensive shortcomings (pun intended) but Luka makes him look like Gary Payton.

At least Brunson tries, there are so many clips of Luka just standing there watching while guys go right by him. He might be the worst defensive player in the NBA.

    “Bucks get: KAT
Knicks get: Myles Turner, Kyle Kuzma, a pick

(Furthermore he suggests the Bucks would be insane to do this trade.)”

I’d have to look carefully at this trade but my initial reaction is that it might help both teams, and probably the Knicks more than the Bucks. So while I don’t think either team would be insane to make the trade, I do think it would be in the Knicks’ favor.

    “Rockets get: Jalen Brunson
Knicks get: FVV, Dorian Finney-Smith, 6 1st round picks

(And he described this one as ludicrous for Houston.)”

I agree with Pina on this one, although I think it would be ludicrous for both teams.

just read an interesting peace on the athletic about greg koehler who played professional hockey for 15 years but who’s entire nhl career spanned a total of 4 seconds

My god, why does he think we’re trying to blow it up?

He doesn’t, but he thinks Brunson is

“an increasingly problematic defender who will turn 30 in August and seems to be walking off an ankle injury once a week. For the second season in a row, the Knicks have a bad defense when he’s on the court”

    and

“winning a championship with him as your best player is an exceptional challenge—like having the most powerful left hook in the world but stepping into the ring with your right arm tied behind your back.”

So obviously we should try winning with KAT as our best player instead. Because that will be much easier.

Little piece by Katz saying our drives and also/thus our sprays were way down during this bad stretch.

Also a quick video clip where he basically says, “You just have to stop playing like crap.”

Maybe sometimes the answer is stupidly simple.

Sorry if this was already posted, but some interesting perspective from a lifelong Wolves fan on KFS:

    – KAT is definitely a forward not a center.

    – everyone expects KAT to be a floor spacer, but he sees himself as a ball-dominant driver who can also shoot.

    – he also sees himself as a top option but is willing to take a backseat sometimes (i.e. Antman).

    – KAT enjoyed being a playmaker once Gobert came in (did a lot of short rolls with Rudy).

    – he needs 3 early touches on offense or he won’t play D the rest of the game.

    – Wolves players had great chemistry off the court (always had KAT’s back).

Wow, some sportswriters are really dumb.

    Re: Kuzma
I have no interest in skinny Yabu.

just like kat whos stats are good but eyetest is bad i find the same with lukas defense watching the game he is absolutely horrible yet he is averaging 1.6 stls per game this season and 1.3 stls per game for his career

and just like that the blazers and the heat have the same record after the former beat the latter last nite

id rather have tari eason than jon hamm 18/9 per 36 doesnt get to the line but shoots almost 47 (!) percent from 3 on decent volume

I always think of Kuzma as a taller version of Clarkson.

    LOL! It’s funny because it’s true. 😀
After reading this, i imagined a team starting Clarkson, Kuzma, and… don’t know why… Jordan Poole! Oof, hard to root for these guys! 😛
And who should be the other two?

Watching Milwakee vs Denver now and Giannis’ body language is worth a thousand words. He’s barely interested. Zero joy. Honestly, not sure he cares to compete at all. Milwakee is a lottery level team with or without Giannis.

I saw it twice in theaters Clarence, might be my favorite film of the year, in a year that was *really* good for film!

    1

It might be mine too. Lotta upper mezzanine films this year and think a few real bangers.
