“This was a bad loss, but with KAT and Mitch out, it wasn’t THAT bad of a loss.” – BC
When this team is at full speed, they will add KAT, Hart, Shamet (who’s just a hair ahead of Clarkson in MPG), and Mitch as secret weapon to what they put on the floor last night… half of their best 8 was missing… dating myself, I think ’92-93 was the best team I’ve followed and I recall one of our four losses at The Garden that season was Mark Jackson’s return with the Clippers. The 72 win Bulls lost to the expansion Raptors. Good teams have duds.
Also WTF did we wake up to??
I was watching it live, and, yeah, WTF indeed.
Jonas Plaut wrote a fascinating piece for Macri about how the Knicks making Yabu sign for less money to give them a little room under the second apron now means that they can’t trade him for anyone making the full MLE (which is most guys making the MLE).
Didn’t catch the game last night, how did the team look? Bad, i guess. 😛
I’m 0-2 on 2026 games, already with the finger on the panic button. LOL
Boston is just one L behind us !?!?
We need to pack Yabu + Dadiet and find a good player making up to 8.3M, these 2 don’t look as they’ll be helping us this season.
Edit: There’s some options – George Niang (8.2M / Jazz), Kevon Looney (8M / Pels), Isaiah Jackson (7.6M / Pacers), and probably more.
Well that was not my favorite MSG experience. Super-disappointed by Mikal, he stood out as the guy who underperformed the most. OG and Brunson were pretty bad as well. And the shooting and decision-making in general was beyond putrid.
On the bright side, I thought Huk, Diawara, and McCular all had their moments. Kolek, not so much.
The team looks exhausted, so tonight might be another tough one unless KAT and Mitch are back.
I think last night we saw the offensive shortcomings of Huk, Diawara, and McCullar. They all do things well, mostly on the defensive side of the ball, but they’re a huge drag on the offense, especially when we play them alongside each other or our other lesser offensive talents.
Kolek had a number of dumb turnovers, which he had been doing a good job of avoiding recently. Turnovers are not an uncommon problem for young players, but some are really egregious and it’s frustrating when we’re in win now mode.
Maybe McCullar’s passing can make up for his lack of scoring.
OG is shooting 18.4% from 3 over the last 7 games. Before that his season 3p% was an even 40%, a career year. He’s now down to a near career worst 34.3%.
No bueno.
shamet upgraded from out to doubtful this means that he wont play tonite but still i didnt think it would happen this soon
EB, I don’t think you’re wrong, the offense definitely looked like it stalled when a certain number of kids were in. At the same time, those ‘kids’ were 0-3 from three, while our four shooter/starters were 8 for 35 from three (22%), right about what we shot overall as a team. Which is a guaranteed loss.
I think it’s a decent hypothesis to suggest that poorly executed offense leads to bad threes that miss. I also think that the Hawks played very effective defense throughout, and their superior length was a real problem.
I don’t want to take anything away from how terrible our regulars were, because they can’t be that bad for how much they cost us, but I do think the kids’ lack of polish definitely compounded the issue.
Also, kudos to the Hawks who did play some very good defense.
Brunson was totally flustered by Dyson Daniels. Happens, but he usually figures it out. He looks worn down.
This is true, but still… Brunson with only 3 free throws all game on that many shots is embarrassing.
Not the reason we lost, but he deserves a better whistle than that. But yeah, Daniels is a beast on D, which is why we really could’ve used KAT’s offense against the Hawks.
Yeah, in no way was it responsible for the loss, but Jalen did get a terrible (non)whistle all game. He was furious, and rightfully so.
The non-whistle thing is an NBA-wide thing. Physicality is increasing around the league. Foul-baiting is being discouraged. That’s a policy. Problem is, refs are imperfect. Some are better at enforcing it, some are not.
Ultimately, I think the policy hits guys like Brunson the hardest. Seems like they are calling fouls across the arms in the shooting motion tightly, but bumps and grabs on the body are being let go.
lets go get jock landale perfect branden carlson would be great too
I should also say that Atlanta is pretty good. They have lots of good young pieces (as opposed to good pieces named Young) and they have some very good draft possibilities coming up. It will hurt if Risacher turns out to be a whiff, but they might be very good before too long.
I’m surprised they haven’t changed the name to freedom platanos yet.
When do we rename the Ewing Theiry to the TatumTheory?
what is the ewing theiry
On the bright side I did get to introduce my third set of nieces and nephews to Totoro yesterday. Being a guncle is where it’s at.
the japanese flick
Le mot juste, Doogie.
You think the Knicks looked tired yesterday, imagine chasing Maxey and Edgecombe around all night. Should be, um, interesting…
It’s way early but the Sixers look like the better team tonight
And KAT is in full “do dumb shit and get frustrated” mode.
