2025-26 Game Thread: Knicks @ Trailblazers

The Knicks head to Portland, the site of one of their craziest wins last season, for hopefully another win.

I love that Chauncey Billups is still technically the coach of the Trailblazers. Tiago Splitter is just the wink wink nudge nudge interim head coach.

Welcome back, former Trailblazer, Josh Hart!

Let’s go, Knicks!

Still free great about 58!

Just got done listening to the KFS pre-game pod and the Blazers guy actually made me worry more about this game than I was going into it. He said Advija is playing like a legit #1 but not getting the hype even though his stats are similar to Cade’s. He said the Blazers play very hard and physical, which is something that has given us trouble. Should be a good test, especially since our Hart and Soul is back…

Have to listen to the Blazers broadcast because streaming sports has become utter chaos. But they did point out they’ve won five in a row…

Yeah Portland has won 5 in a row including 2 wins vs Houston and a win at San Antonio so this won’t be an easy game.

…and I think they just said they’re #1 in 3PA? Good thing we’re so good at guarding the line…

Portland is Top 5 in 3pt rate but are 20th in offensive rating so they’re not very good offensively.

just checked, they are one game below .500 – in the west…

let’s go knicks…hopefully…anything can happen in sports you know…

let’s see if the blazers hit above or below their three point take and make averages this game…

Vegas has us as 5 ½ point favorites which seems really high.

They must know something we don’t

Always fun to get lots of turnovers and give the ball back each time…

Knicks fans in the building in Portland… i’m going to try to guess which one is Jowles. 😉 😛

I wonder how much jalen’s defense is in his head…I know i’m watching him more as a defender than as a scorer these days…

he looks willing and able, the other team we play seem to really try to wear him out – on both ends of the court…

they’re not just targeting him because he’s the worst defender, which usually is, but because he’s our offensive engine…

Really nice start. A bit sloppy with the ball, but luckily so are the Blazers…

is it the tyler sitting on a bench time again…

good time to go back to 8, few minutes to the 9th…

prove me wrong MB, win with 10…

I know we suck defensively but it’s getting beyond ridiculous how every team no matter how bad their numbers are offensively all shoot like Steph Curry against us.

Diawara’s ball handling is really impressive.

If he develops a good shot/finish, he’s going to be a very high level player. It may take a few years, but he’s one hell of a long term prospect. Stay in the gym and shoot shoot shoot.

Wow, Towns missed that foul shot like he was taking lessons from old Mitch. That’s not a good sign…

Fine, Z-Man, steal my thunder…

Good thing is if this remains a high scoring affair for entire game Knicks should prevail.

Looks like kolek is odd man out now

I’m surprised the blazer staff lets clingan shoot any threes

If someone told me between Hart and Deuce one was 3-4 from 3P and the other 0-6, i don’t think i’d bet on Deuce to be the one 0-6.

BBA’s alter ego on the blazer blog is complaining about letting Josh hart shoot like Steph curry

Another team to get to 60 at halftime, but we got to 65 so it’s all good. 🙂

marechal beat me to it. 😉

I mean its one thing to leave a decent 3pt shooter like Hart wide ass open like Portland is doing, that’s different from shitty 3pt shooters making a bunch of quick catch and shoot 3s in someone’s face or drilling pull up 3s off the dribble.

Another 60 point defensive half, but at least they are ahead.

Yep! It seems the only way we have a chance to win these days is when our offense is on fire.

That was KAT’s best half in a while, wish we could see that type of performance more often

I actually thought Knicks played very good half court defense that half.

BBL, They dunked at least 5-6 times on us. They scored 60 easy uncontested points and missed a lot of easy shots. Lots of defensive breakdowns. This is not good Knicks defense. It’s our hot offense that keeps us in this one.

Portland has 20 fastbreak pts but shot only 7 for 21 from 3 and below 50% overall in the 1st half. Knicks outrebounding them by 8.

Only reason Knicks aren’t up double digits is cause of the FT line and Deuce going 0 for 6.

Really liked when Jalen drove into the paint and then wrapped a pass around the defender to KAT for the easy layup. We need more of that to get/keep KAT rolling.

But yeah, 15-7-3 with 2 blocks in a half is pretty good.

Robert fucking Willians hitting a shot clock beating 3pter are you fucking kidding me…

You can see why the Blazers have been winning. They’re long and fast and athletic.

I don’t find it surprising that Clarkson can’t hit shots with Kolek sitting

I really don’t like the look of the two-big lineup with Hart there. The spacing is awful.

I guess the Knicks should start yelling “and one” to get foul calls. It worked for Jrue

Knicks are playing very poorly, but a team gets called for 14 fouls, the other for 6. it’s odd to say the least.

Updating to 16-6.

Not a fan of Brown deciding to push Kolek out of the rotation. But he’s going with the game 7 rotation and we still look even with the 9th best team in the West.

In the penalty for final 9 mins of the game, gonna take a fucking miracle for Knicks to pull this one out…

I think I figured out the specific thing KAT hates about his new role: Brown asks him to make decisions with the ball. We seem to have made him happy tonight by letting him do less.

I’d be enjoying the Mitch/Clingan heavyweight bout a lot if I wasn’t so emotionally invested

He wants him to play the Sabonis role and that’s not he needs to be used

Maybe it is.

Sabonis finished 7th in the MVP vote after buying into Mike Brown’s system. KAT has never received a single vote in his life.

And right now he’s getting benched in crunch time and literally no one wants him to come back in even though his stats are great tonight.

Did the Knicks finally make the whiners happy

**also the eagles 🦅 offense fell off a cliff . Nobody could stop them last season

This game would be a tough watch for anyone whose favorite team traded Josh Hart for Kris Murray

Bad trades are only bad if the Knicks are on the wrong end

Very satisfying. Great D down the stretch with Mitch, OG, Mikal, and Deuce (and Brunson).

Hart’s energy was infectious. We played faster, hustled more, and felt like we mentality tough. He was missed for sure.

Mike Brown benched KAT for the final 9:24 and the Knicks responded great without him. Ballsy move.

I think more of this is in order over the next few weeks. KAT can either buy in or fuck off.

Hart’s injected energy was important. Defense improved as the game went on and was much better in the second half, particularly down the stretch. Not perfect, but much better. I had a bad feeling about this game and I’m glad I was wrong.

Still, this is just one game. It does not mean much. Let’s wait and see where the trend goes.

I recant my statement on the previous thread, we should’ve just played OG at C for a year
