2025-26 Game Thread: Knicks @ Sixers

The Knicks have now fallen into third place in their own division, and are a game and a half ahead of the team that they play today.

And it’s an early game on national television.

So, yeah, they really, really need to win this game. But I think they will. That Nets win feels like a pallete cleanser, and they can now stop with the awful, disorganized play, and just kick some fucking ass.

Edgecombe is also due for a bad game against the Knicks. Maybe Maxey could also try sucking for a change!

Let’s go, Knicks!

Feeling great about a win before 8!

The majority, if not all of our wins this season. came because of hot offense. If shots don’t fall or if the opposing team defends us well, physically and/or schematically, then we are in trouble.

If we show today a capacity to slow down a good team, to play consistently good defense, to put together consecutive stops, then we have a chance. We have not shown that this season. A few short spurts of good defense here and there are not enough.

I really hope we win today. Iโ€™m sick from this national tragedy.

Speaking of which, Warriors-Wolves was cancelled in Minneapolis after a 2nd U.S. citizen was killed by ICE.

Speaking of which, Warriors-Wolves was cancelled in Minneapolis after a 2nd U.S. citizen was killed by ICE.

That’s terrible. ๐Ÿ™

We can take advantage of Oubre’s defense, right? Or maybe they’ll put him on KAT! ๐Ÿ˜›

I seem to have it on ESPN.

Good start. A few farts, but so far playing well and with energy.

1

Knicks have to stop fucking double teaming and over helping on every possession, they are awful and clueless when having to scramble and rotate. Just let guys go one on one and force them to have to score instead of allowing so many easy passes for wide open shots.

1

Can we trade Yabu for Maxey? Maxey is SO much fun to watch.

Yabu, on the other hand, not so much…

“I would have taken the charge from Embiidโ€ฆ”

And afterwards we’d all be saying “Quoth the Raven, ‘Nevermore'”

1

Yeah, Maxey is great, we should’ve taken him instead of Obi but we thought he’d be there for our late pick (#21, i think).

I would have taken the charge from Embiidโ€ฆ

I think he was inside the restricted area

nice…espn has a version with no announcers…very lovely…unfortunately they’re using an “odd” (above the rim) camera angle to broadcast…

Knicks played well but also made some dumb mistakes, like three step-out-of-bounds, some ugly turnovers. Letting Yabu play for 2:50.

Philly is also playing really physical. We’re matching them, but it can’t be any fun.

Knicks couldnโ€™t have played a better 1st quarter yet the game is tiedโ€ฆ

Offensively, yes. Defense leaves a whole lot to be desired, as per usual.

really wish the no announcer broadcast for sports events was more of a thingโ€ฆ
huge quality of life upgradeโ€ฆ

Oh totally, but only if it isn’t Breen and/or Clyde, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

1

KAT has been getting alot of shit lately for his play and rightfully so but he’s a tough dude.

They reversed that call but Deuce got hit in the head

That and the Hart call got me wondering

Watching bridges brings up feelings i haven’t had since watching Charles Smith in a knick uniform

1

Knicks with 3 shot attempts in same possession don’t score, Philly finally gets the rebound and immediately scores a fastbreak layup.

one thing that i’m not so crazy about is all the high level music and noise different nba arenas pump in to the building…

don’t hear much of that excessive noise there at philly…

Brunson is gonna have to score at least 40 for Knicks to somehow win this game

Good news is that it looks like he will

Thank god OG dunked that one. Layups are so questionable for that guy…

Embiid looks pretty recovered, hate to say

But Mitch is still Mitchening

Thank god OG dunked that one. Layups are so questionable for that guyโ€ฆ

And good that Brunson didn’t throw a lob to him

Who’s doing color today? Don’t like the voice, but they know what they’re talking about

I hate complaining about the officials, but I’ve been seeing a LOT of questionable calls today.

1

Was thinking the same thing, rama, some smart things being said over the gravel…

Is it in Embiidโ€™s contract that he has to gesticulate after every made basket?

Heโ€™s such an asshole.

Terrible from Hart, never make that pass…

And now Hart draws a foul, smart. What a confounding player. But I love him.

This is Embiid in the playoffs two years ago. He gets every free throw in the world. Difference is this season he is healthier and can move more

Good game so far. A few calls going against us, but really, Deuce and Mikal just have to regress to their mean

Am I the only one who thinks that Embiid is carrying/double-dribbling on half of his touches? Are those just never called anymore?

1

Mikal certainly not making Philly regret trading him on draft day. JoJo gets some very nice whistle, opposite of KAT.

Well Embiid definitely looks thinner, hence in better shape. But the knees are time bombs, and more he goes off, the likelier it is that they will fail before the playoffs.

I feel we took their best punch that first half, and if we don’t let off the gas we should have them in the second half.

My story and I’m sticking with it.

We literally killed them on the boards, we took a dozen more shots than them, and we are nevertheless down by four. This ain’t good. They scored waaay too many cheap points.

Rough, I was what are you, crazy, and now I see it’s 32-14 in rebounds. Wow.

JoJo gets some very nice whistle, opposite of KAT.

embiid seems to get an insanely favorable whistle from the refs, definitely looks no more coordinated than KAT floundering around in the paint…

Rough, I was what are you, crazy, and now I see itโ€™s 32-14 in rebounds. Wow.

Nick Thibodeau ain’t stupid. He will fix that in the second half. Watch out. We need to defend better from paint penetration, minimize transition/fast break points, and stop fouling dirty Embiid. They are an average to below average 3pt team.

That’s clearly off Brunson, I would think only way it’s reversed is if they call a foul.

the no announcer thing is actually on espn unlimited, still with the lone aerial view…switched to the abc broadcast for a minute…

switching back…hopefully there comes a day when nba league pass offers a no announcer alternate broadcast for games…

if anything, turn the mics up around the court to hear sneakers squeaking, defensive call outs, players talking shit to other players, folks endlessly bitching about getting fouled…don’t really need no one to interpret what I can see and hear…

yep…

Edit: oh no, have I become old man yelling at cloud…

watch out Director and Bob, i’m on your heels…

Mikal had had a bunch of 3 pick games, a few 4 pick games, but this is a 1 pick game at best

Finally some great defense during this run. Letโ€™s hope it will continue!

I wonder if we can attribute that to any particular factor….

Mitch playing a solid game. Maxey will try to take over now that Jo Jo has cooled.
Notable that Knicks thriving with Mitch in and KAT on bench

yeah MB keeps yelling something over and over from the sideline, sounds like either: no scrubs or no subs

maybe neither, maybe both…better sideline recording with a network buy in for the no annoying announcers no more thing – yeah, with better mics I could’ve heard what he was saying…

right E, lord knows I can easily fill the space in my head with my own words…yep, no trouble with that at all…

oops, been a while since I’ve practiced any of that silencing type therapy…maybe overdue…

no more words – starting now ๐Ÿ™ƒ

43-21 rebounding edge. Still working.

And nice drive by Mitch! Better than that one in the first half…

Shamet still pushing Maxey left – one reason why he’s not making things happen

Brunson missed that bunny, and Deuce missing the 3 – another 5 points would be nice when you’re on a roll and you expect them to answer

Can really hear the Knicks fans there on the no announcer feed.

I have announcers and can hear them too… they’re loud! ๐Ÿ˜€

These no Brunson, with Towns on mins are critical both in terms of defense and not picking up dumb fouls

Philly has a bunch of double digit 4th quarter comebacks this season so game far from over but considering the circumstances that was definitely the best quarter of the season by the Knicks.

1

This game is exhibit A for the prosecution against people who think our window would close without KAT.

60 million a year breaks down nicely in to a 35 and 25 million contract duo…need the right duo of course…

point being, build to fit the cap…

This little run is on Brown – can’t run a lineup without any creator. Like Huk giving us a solid 5-10 minutes, this obviously calls for that from Kolek.

1

Going Huk over KAT, maybe his back is acting up

It’s not his back he’s got 5 fouls in 14 minutes because he’s a fucking moron.

Benching Clarkson was certainly a substantial net plus.

It took Brown some time but he eventually figured it out.

Embiid clearly pushed Hart, and then a plus-1 on the other side. Refs have to be better than this

1

I tried to be patient with Yabu but honestly he may be the worst basketball player I have ever seen

That attempted shot by KAT sums up his and Embiid’s experiences. Joel totally mugs him, no call.

We were talking about that ugly-ass team with Clarkson and Kuzma. I might put Oubre on it.

My god that foul was so stupid.

I hate KAT more than I’ve ever hated a Knick in my life.

We were talking about that ugly-ass team with Clarkson and Kuzma. I might put Oubre on it.

LOL

Ok, that was a foul on Mitch, but they didn’t call it when Embiid pushed Hart earlier, so…

1

Itโ€™s not his back heโ€™s got 5 fouls in 14 minutes because heโ€™s a fucking moron.

Oh… I missed his 25 seconds to start the 4th before his 5th foul. Thought he was still on 4. Shit that was a quick one.

Once again rescued by Mitch and Shamet

Though all the missed free throws are keeping them in it

Surprised philly isn’t doing hack a Mitch honestly.

I think I hate bridges more than Kat somehow

Clyde would be in his โ€œโ€ฆthey need look no furtherโ€ฆโ€ bag about our missed FTs.

Let’s hope we win or else we’ll be thinking about these missed FTs

I think I hate bridges more than Kat somehow

Well, he worked hard for it this game ๐Ÿ˜›

OG is pretty consistently great in the last 2 minutes. Seems to be a player who can dial it up when the game is on the line.

Oh my Goodness…

forget that earlier jalen verus philly thing, man our small ball team closed this out…

Edit: oops, not done yet…

Uhh, isnโ€™t that just a foul on Shamet on that inbounds play? They just wrapped their arms around him

Tony Brothers apparently deaf

Also apparently getting paid off by the bookies

Uhh, isnโ€™t that just a foul on Shamet on that inbounds play? They just wrapped their arms around him

I don’t know what is a foul anymore

2

I mean I donโ€™t want to exaggerate but this is genuinely some of the most trash refereeing I have ever seen

2

Can Dolan splash some of that cash on the refs, because it’s obvious someone is

2

I donโ€™t know what is a foul anymore

It’s any play that pushes the game above or below the spread depending on where the money is

2

Kinda dark art by Brunson, no? Seemed like he held VJโ€™s arm to create the defensive foul.

Shooting 60% from the line, plus some terrible calls, are the story here

2

It’s hysterical that the refs are so bad they can’t call Shamet trying to foul.

1

What a fucking weird ending to a game. Many a Knicks blunder. But a win is a win is a win! And Fuck Joel Embiid!

Jeez, ridiculous officiating, foul shooting and end of game performance. Game ball to OG.

Really felt the spirit of the โ€˜24 team again today.

I love everyone on this team not named KAT and Mikal.

Pull the fucking trigger, Leon. KAT is like holding a live grenade. That dumb MFer is probably three weeks away from an ACL tear.

So the Knicks free throw coach/trainer doesn’t exist right? That’s the only explanation…

Dumb layup by OG, but otherwise he won us this game down the stretch

2

Thank god, wouldโ€™ve hated to see the crowd go home disappointed

Lol

A promising game ruined by a horrific final minute. The missed free throws are inexcusable. Nearly threw the game away. Mikal Bridges needs to look in the mirror after this game, really selfish performance. Less Towns is better – we compete harder on both ends.

I knew we’d win because 27 assists.

I have to take a shower now. Both from sweat and from the stink of that game.

The OG at center ploy actually worked somewhat well, and this is a relatively easy win if anybody could have hit a free throw.

3

It was really stressful down the stretch. Offense totally stalled, defense crumbled with plenty of stupid plays, but effort was there. Q3 gave us this game. This gives me hope. I hope we can build on of that quarter.

I assume the last minute of this game is what would happen if all the players and refs swapped bodies with a bunch of 3rd graders

One of the largest comment sections in quite some time

Is it the snow storm and below zero temps?

Sounds like this game was more fuel for the โ€œundo the summer movesโ€ crowd (Hubert, basically.)

The three most important people as we approach the trade deadline are KAT, Bridges, and Mike Brown. KAT has lost confidence in his game and his teammates frankly. I am not sure if he gets it back in time. Bridges had moments in last years playoffs but he still disappears way too often and his erratic play on both ends is part of the downfall. Mike Brown has had ample time to get to know the team and while injuries have been a problem, his feel for the team is not fully there and his substitutions during the losing streak left a lot to be desired.

Will all 3 stay? Probably likely unless we collapse this week. But will all 3 turn it around? (which is needed if we want to win a chip this year

If itโ€™s just me yโ€™all are smoking crack.

KAT turning in a game like this now is like someone showing up to work drunk after youโ€™ve told them itโ€™s their last chance.

Beisges had a horrible game and is having a rough January overall, but Iโ€™m not ready to give up on the guy. He was having an outstanding season and somehow this month forgot how to shoot.

Personally I think heโ€™ll be fine.

I’d say the first two are situational, depending on what’s available. Giannis is crying to get him out of Milwaukee.

I have not been convinced at all by Mike Brown, and I was pretty sure he’d be badly outcoached today by Nick Nurse (aka Nick Thibodeau). I am glad to say he was not. Brown is the least likely to go. For now. Another slide the next few weeks may dramatically change things.

Cameron Carr will be in soon to replace Bridges

Brayden Burries is another option

I would be very surprised, if not shocked, if any pre-deadline moves involving any of Brunson, KAT, OG, Mikal, Hart, Deuce, or Mitch took place. Everyone else is fair game and wouldn’t surprise me at all.

I am expecting that Yabu will get traded one way or another, but even that is far from certain. If he doesn’t, he becomes offseason salary filler. Whatever.

I don’t know whose fault it was (except the missed FTs, of course) , but the execution down the stretch was really bad. no TO on the baseline before the inbounds, JB grabbing VJ’s arm on the jump ball and OG shooting the ball rather than forcing the foul were all unforgivable. That shit has to be cleaned up.

The Bucks are hesitant to trade Giannis not just for basketball reasons. This guy has not only multiplied the value of the franchise by eight-ten times; he also had significant impact on the economy of the city of Milwaukee. Yep!

Very pleased with how much Clarkson played. Still furious about the 2:50 that Yabu got.

Maybe I’m the only one, but I’m mostly giving KAT a pass on this one as clearly he’s a bit walking wounded. Still made some dumb-ass moves though.

Hard to look at this box score and make any sense of what just transpired. Pretty much everyone had stretches where they played really well and then stretches of really bad play. Even our late-game hero Shamet, who started 1-4. Except Mikal, who just stank. Maybe Mitch was good throughout, 10 rebounds and 4 stocks in 26 minutes. Hart was very Hart-y when we needed him.

Glad it’s over, is the main thing.

Yeah, I agree that it would not be kind to bash KAT, he’s clearly got back stuff, which anyone who knows how that feels can relate to how little you want to play basketball when it’s acting up.

I though Huk looked really good in his minutes, was that just me?

1

That stretch in the third and early fourth quarter reminded me of the stretch exactly two years ago when for about three weeks we were spreading terror around the league.

My take-away is that we beat a good team at full strength, if we’d made any damn free throws we would have won by a good deal. So it seems like the Nets game wasn’t a complete fluke, and we may have our mojo back. Lots to fix, of course, but I forget who posted the list of the next five or six games, but with the team operating like this, we have a chance to win most of them.

Huk was solid. Only 4-5 minutes, but good enough.

In general I thought Brown did well (small-ball to close!) except for that 5 minutes without Brunson or another guard who could initiate the offense. We gave back a bunch of points quickly. But otherwise good. It’s not good fault we missed 100 FTs in the final quarter.

That stretch in the third and early fourth quarter reminded me of the stretch exactly two years ago when for about three weeks we were spreading terror around the league.

The fourth quarter we played against the Blazers was like that, too. Everyone was flying around, the team was having fun, and we all thought it was because Josh Hart came back but in hindsight it was probably bc KAT was benched.

4 weeks of miserable basketball, and the two most joyful stretches came when KAT was benched.

What a coincidence.

Interesting stats from Tommy Beer, during clutch time this season Knicks have the worst FT% in the NBA but the best 3pt%.

“Interesting stats from Tommy Beer, during clutch time this season Knicks have the worst FT% in the NBA but the best 3pt%”

Maybe we should start shooting FTs from the 3PT line…

The 2025 NBA Draft looks like one of the best drafts we’ve seen in YEARS.

I’m stunned by how good of a shooter Egor Demin is, and he was just the 8th pick overall! Luckily he shot poorly against the Knicks (not that it would have mattered much in a game the Knicks won by over 50).

2026 looks very good

That Wizards pick should be real value they need to keep it.

Some noise on Twitter about Portland liking Mikal Bridges… I saw one mock trade where:

Knicks get
Giannis and Jerami

Milwaukee gets
KAT, Deuce, and some picks

Portland gets
Bridges; probably other things too

Like all 95% of mock trades, it seems very unlikely

Portland owns Bucks picks and swaps for 2028-30. The point for the Knicks is to find draft assets to send to Milwaukee in a possible Giannis trade. This is most likely the reason they were talking to Memphis, Charlotte, Orlando, and so on. Where there is smoke there’s probably a fire. We shall see.

Not sure I love that trade… Losing both Deuce and Mikal would leave us thin, and Grant is dead cap, which we’ve mostly avoided, in exchange for a great player, but maybe not the perfect fit, and the calf issues concern me as they do often turn into torn Achilles.

I mean, is Grant starting in that scenario? Or Giannis and Mitch together? I dunno.

I am ok with Bridges but sad to see Deuce go. This is however a very hypothetical scenario. The Bucks are very reluctant and Giannis does not want to push, or so he says. Even if a trade happens, it won’t necessarily have that exact shape as currently shown. For instance, the Knicks are sending out five players and get back only two. They will need to find a serviceable center. Other teams may have to be involved. And so on.

It’s an absolute no brainer for the Knicks. We get a top-5 player who will give us an easy 25pts, 10+ boards, and very good defense. We have the best medical staff in the NBA. If we get two-three good Giannis years, then wow.

nurkich averaging 16.7/13/12 over last three games triple double in all of them

“I knew weโ€™d win because 27 assists.”

then you didnt know it until there were 43 seconds left when anunobie passed it to shammet for the 3 to put us up by 8 because thats when that assist occurred pretty cool tho
