2025 Round 2 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Celtics, Game 6 – Wrap it Up

I mean, come the fuck on, they’re home, the Celtics are without their MVP, the Knicks get an additional three games of rest ahead of facing the Pacers if they wrap this shit up now, the last TWO times the Knicks made the NBA Finals, they beat the Pacers to get there. There are just too many reasons why the Knicks have to and WILL end this nonsense tonight.

So let’s just have them, you know, fucking DO that.

I’m going to be at Yankees Stadium, and having a moment when Yankees and Mets fans join forces to celebrate this win would be fucking sweet, so, again, just fucking DO it.

Let’s go, Knicks!

Just nine more wins left to go!

The Dylan tune is “This Wheels on Fire,” which he co-wrote with Rick Danko of The Band for The Basement Tapes.

Posted up at Pig Beach in astoria, sensing the incoming doom lol.

In all seriousness, if we get a fair down the middle called game we have a good shot.

If we make sure White can’t walk down and shoot uncontested threes on the break, we’ll have a better shot.

Lord knows we’re due an OG & KAT game. Hopefully the meme narrative (Jalen Diddy Brown & The Tony Brothers Experience) has gotten to the league office and they let them go.

LFGK

In all seriousness, if we get a fair down the middle called game we have a good shot.

If we make sure White can’t walk down and shoot uncontested threes on the break, we’ll have a better shot.

So basically we’re toast

Once again the starting lineup needs to actually be good. Actually get a nice lead and hold it.

Is this game ever going to actually start or am I on some big delay?

I have to go to a music lesson now so I’ll catch up and watch later. May the Gods smile on us this time ( even though it’s their general habit not to)

Luke is coming from the weak side all night long.
I hope Thibs has an answer, a trap, for that.

Expect Hart to play big

He better because he’s the reason they won’t play the double big even though its been very solid

Well we’ve played very well for the first two minutes…

The crowd sounds legit tonight.

Friday night. No work tomorrow.

I do appreciate how the announcers are calling out the refs for the fouls on the Knicks that aren’t being called. Just wish the league would listen.

Brunson just held the ball for 20 seconds before passing to Hart for a 3.

The starting 5 has an off rating of 101 this series so it’s expected

I’m gonna fucking throw my remote control thru my TV.

This but phone thru computer.

They’re trying to play with some energy but they just look really tight and flustered. Don’t love the body language

OG not hitting a shot in two games after his hamstring issue is not good.

It’s time to hit the liquor cabinet. Beers are not going to cut it.

I don’t need the game to be well played, i just need a win in the end. That’s what matters.

The D has been good so far, but we are blowing the fast breaks and are clueless in the half court. We will have to outrebound them at this rate.

What a surprise, when you have 5 shooters, your offense looks good.

It’s so hard to follow the game at the stadium. I’m tentatively optimistic!

What a surprise, when you have 5 shooters, your offense looks good.

Ha

The crowd just chanted, “Let’s go, Knicks!”

I agree. Let’s go, indeed!

Maybe if KB collectively apologized to Jaylen Brown he’d back off a bit…

That Thunder AT&T commercial is going to age badly if they don’t win tmw. Gordon not playing should help

It’s so hard to follow the game at the stadium. I’m tentatively optimistic!

You’re in the Bronx?

Well, closed that out pretty good. Hopefully Cap will get going at some point here

Is this the first quarter this series in which the Knicks outshot Boston from 3 (in volume)?

What do you know, the Celtics don’t shoot 50% from 3 on high volume and their offense grinds to a halt

HOLY SHIT that has to be the best defensive possession of the season.

Fantastic defense by Mitch and a nice offensive play for KAT, let’s go guys!

TAKE US TO THE FINALS DOUBLE BIG

A man that size moving that fast and not running through Brown?
Wow

Thibs must have hit these guys with a cattle prod in the locker room. They are hustling on D like the game actually matters.

Thibs: This is going too well. Gotta call a time out.

og is both covering the roller and getting back out to contest the wing 3 — he’s done it like three times

This is exaaaaaaactly what I wanted. Thank you, Knicks!

The Knicks effort on defense tonight has been crazy insane in a good way.

I can only take Josh Hart in small doses.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a small dose

I jumped out of my recliner and screamed after the Deuce block and Hart And1…

If we always played with this much energy instead of looking eternally complacent, we’d never lose

Anxiety levels down slightly

Going to start a blog called The Proximate Foul

Some of these calls, man.

Edit: I don’t care that they are up 20! Call the game right!

Watching on British Airways. The Air Marshall just told me to calm down.

FINISH IT!!!!!!!!!

This is the point where my inner voice starts to get a little Pagliacci… it’s gone so, so well. Fingers crossed, knock on wood, but this version of the team on defense is very, very tough.

Man you gotta love what Deuce was able to do out there that half.

The effort is really there today, and that intensity got them through some of the patches where the offense looked ragged. We’re killing them in the paint and with second chance points.

Mitch’s box score line is so far removed from his impact in this game.

They should have to watch this first half before every game to remember how to play.

Close it out. They can still shoot the three. Don’t panic. Take good shots. And close out the shooters

Keep the pedal to the metal, guys! Don’t let them back in it…bury them!

The Knicks are limiting Boston’s 3PAs so well. Only 19 in the half (New York had 24).

Deuce really killing it out there when we need him the most, with Hart and Bridges playing with 3 fouls.

I won’t be able to relax until the clock hits 0 in the 4th but yeah, fantastic half, great energy, more active KAT, great Mitch, a lot of things to like.

That Thibs timeout was perfect. It’s when the separation solidified.

I hate halftime when they are rolling.
Halftime saves the Celtics.
Still gonna need to fight hard for this.

Watching on British Airways. The Air Marshall just told me to calm down.

Captain: “Ladies and gentlemen, this isn’t turbulence, it’s just a Knicks fan who’s very pleased with the big lead they have! BING! BONG!”

Stress? What stress?

Okay, a little stress. But I’m appreciating the little part.

Oh for fuck’s sake.

Leave him open, guys. Good idea.

I can’t believe a terrible call went in our favor!

The only way they will get back in this is 3 point chucking. Guard the 3

I can’t believe a terrible call went in our favor!

How did they miss that?

I don’t care what Donnie says these are my favorites kinds of games.

Well, if we win this by 30, i will say it was good to lose game 5. LOL

This might honestly be the best game I’ve ever seen the Knicks play in my lifetime.

I don’t care what Donnie says these are my favorites kinds of games.

Best Game Ever So Far! 😎

Checked in at halftime and felt positively tumescent at the score

say it with me folks:

FUCK BOSTON

It’s such a perfect symmetry between the Celtics’ first and last game of the season.

So annoying.
If the Knicks are winning they’re talking about the Celtics. If the Knicks are losing, they’re talking about the Celtics.

Just dropping by to say congratulations Knicks.
War is not yet over. We need to beat Indiana. We are favored same with all 3 past series vs pacers (we all lost).
Let’s make sure to win that series!!
We’ve been here since we are chasing draft picks. We cheer for the likes of Lance Thomas etc. We have a great team and let’s win the east!!

Not too excited about the return of Jalen dribbling out the 24. Focus guys!

Can’t believe I am considering going to sleep on a clinching game 6 against the Celtics

Does Brunson have a chance for a mythical 5? He certainly deserves it

The Knicks are up 33, Boston is shooting 33% from the floor, and Patrick Ewing is there.

Absolutely love Brunson hunting Brown there as payback for this whole series

I mean yeah it’s a 30 point game but keeping your best player in to foul out with 3 to go in the third is some pretty stupid material.

What a beatdown!

I think the Celtics bounced to the moon off that last effort.

Absolutely love Brunson hunting Brown there as payback for this whole series

You saw that coming – I knew when he had Brown isolated he was thinking, “foul him out”

I don’t know, I liked it better when we were up 40.

Bets on when the bench comes in? I’ll say 2:45 left…

keeping your best player in to foul out with 3 to go in the third is some pretty stupid material.

I think that was a mercy done by Mazzulla

I can’t believe you guys want the bench now. Jesus, no. These are the Knicks.

“12 more mins boys. Stay focused. Stay smart. Stay aggressive. Stop setting for 3s. Take it hard to the rack. Assert your fucking dominance!!”

That would have been my timeout speech.

Bets on when the bench comes in? I’ll say 2:45 left…

I feel adventurous and go with 4:14!

I can’t believe you guys want the bench now. Jesus, no. These are the Knicks.

And I can’t believe YOU won’t let me enjoy a quarter of Precious and Huk.

Anybody remark on Clyde’s casual look. Love it. Never seen it before. Maybe it’s good luck.

I love this new thing, drive into the paint, kick to a wide open three point shooter.

We should think about that in the next round

I’m not hear for the minutes whining tonight. I have never seen the Knicks play a conference finals game. Finish the job.

Someone at the Garden smack Thibs and tell him to get the starters out

Mitch looks hurt, and don’t want OG aggravating that hamstring.

I disagree. The Celtics are the best three point shooting team in the nba. A few more minutes before subbing.
I want this squad to step on their necks.
After last game, I’d like to see that.

Anybody remark on Clyde’s casual look. Love it. Never seen it before. Maybe it’s good luck.

It’s great. But i’d prefer to be hearing his comments on the game.

Captain: “Ladies and gentlemen, this isn’t turbulence, it’s just a Knicks fan who’s very pleased with the big lead they have! BING! BONG!”

Hahaha. I’m still nervous, up a billion. #knicksforever

I hate OG coming back in, but I do understand we’re still far from the end here

Guys, we’re up 36 points on the champs in a close out game at the Garden. I think Thibs gets a pass on minutes tonight.

PS — you know Silver fed this season into the ChatGpt screenwriting program and the result was Knicks v Minny final, so ….

Mitch KAT line up is really something

Loads of people thought it might be and everyone knows it now except Thibs. He might be just starting to catch on. 😉

We were waiting a long time for Mitch. I hope his back is OK.

I hope the crowd around the bench is yelling at Thibs to pull the starters. Also the players should refuse to go in.

Don’t ruin a great night but taking a fucking stupid unnecessary risk

that 4 pt play gives Thibs reason to keep starters in 3 more minutes

I can’t believe we have a blowout in an elimination game at home.

A portuguese on the floor, and i’m happy he’s going on vacation today! 😀

Mitch KAT line up is really something

Only if Hart gets in foul trouble 😉

I can’t believe we have a blowout in an elimination game at home.

Right? We almost never had blowouts this season, so this is even more surprising. They saved it for the “goodbye Celtics”. LOL

I don’t know how fans of good teams do it. 3-4 rounds of this every year? Jesus.

I am on the train heading home from the Yankees game, where Soto made the last out, and the Knicks are in the Eastern Conference Finals. Life is good!

With all the ups and downs, the doubts, the frustrations, these Knicks finally did it. We have to give them their props! First ECF in a quarter of a century by knocking out the seemingly invincible defending champs and doing so in a convincing fashion. Tonight’s annihilation shuts down any murmurs about which team deserved to win this series.

Tonight, we played our best defense of the season by a mile. My only wonder is where has this been all season, but there is no doubt in my mind that if we keep playing defense like this, we have a good chance to go all the way. Time will tell.

LGK!!!!!!!!! Special thanks to Knick Super Fan Lenny Kravitz, who’s been with us through it all

So many thought it couldn’t be done – including here. But tonight its been established the NY Knicks are Eastern Conference bound. They are, in fact, better than the Celtics!

Man, that is so satisfying!

Def the good Jekyll/Hyde version of our guys tonight. Let’s keep going!!

Hugs to all the faithful, and even to Pags.

Let’s get that physio on, gents, and come out strong in the next round.

We did, and with a blowout to end it… I’m emotional, it’s been so long, I barely know how to react now that it actually happened.

Now on to the Pacers, I don’t know how I’ll handle another series against such a hated rival and with so much at stake, but just being able to say that is an incredible feeling.

Great win and probably the best defensive game of the year.
Leon’s plan is working as expected 😉
Now rest and get ready for the next step: revenge!

Well needed and deserved
Now Focus for the next series
We’re just in the middle of the trip

It’s been so long since we’ve been here. I started with the Ewing Knicks in the 90s, into the Houston/Spree Knicks, into the awful decade of futility, into Melo Knicks, into Randle Knicks, and finally now at Brunson Knick. What a journey. I also stayed loyal to these Knicks and so happy right now.

Next, revenge for last season. Let’s stay healthy and take it Haliburton and the run and gun Pacers.

That moment when Brunson waved “bye-bye” to the Celtics bench after his dagger 3 shall forever be memorialized in the annals of Knicks history. It is the equivalent of when Reggie Miller gave the Garden his infamous choke sign — except this time, we were the ones doing the silencing. Brunson’s wave wasn’t just a celebration; it was a declaration. A moment of swagger, defiance, and long-overdue revenge. Like LJ’s four-point play or Starks’ dunk over Jordan and Grant, it captured the essence of a Knicks team that refuses to fold. That wave belongs in the Knicks pantheon — a symbol of heart, grit, and finally, payback.

Watching the Knicks play at a championship level in the last two MSG games and having the Home Court advantage means A Lot

I love the smell of domination in the evening. Smells like…victory!

If Tatum had gotten hurt in Game 1 you could talk about luck, but we beat them with the same lineup they had coasting into last year’s finals except Hauser…including beating them twice in Boston to go up 2-0. That’s not lucky variance. They had two 20pt leads and a 14 point lead and weren’t “championship” enough to protect them.

In fact, you could say that Game 4 defined the series as to who was better. They played a very solid game and shot well, but we had an answer to everything they threw at us and were pulling away when Tatum got hurt. So no whining about “we were lucky”. We won fair and square.

We’ve been sniffing the Celtics farts since forever, but we ended the Pierce Garnett era, and now we ended the Tatum-Brown era.

So no whining about “we were lucky”. We won fair and square.

Even if we were, then so what? No one talked about the luck our opponents had when Randle went down last season. Luck is part of the game.

Basketball is not like soccer. The best team wins. Even the useless series stats got corrected after tonight’s game.

I like the way OG picked it up after a bad shooting start, he gave us an enormous lift. And Mitch’s stat line doesn’t jump out, but his 11 minutes were enormously impactful, he was a plus 16. And what can you say about Deuce, some folks here wrote him off, but he has become super valuable and was awesome tonight when it mattered most.

“Basketball is not like soccer. The best team wins.”

Unless they are coached by Thibs, according to some here…

I also thought Brunson played one of his best games as a NYK, he took the 3rd most shots but every shot he hit was a backbreaker for the Celts. Bravo, Cap!

Also, kudos to KAT, he didn’t have his most efficient game and was only 1-6 from 3 but he was a beast inside and on the boards. We outrebounded them by 16, and he was a huge part of that. He did what he needed to do on D as well.

Was at the game tonight , not sure how much it came across on TV but electric atmosphere. It became a full night club by the 3rd quarter. Mayhem and madness and F Trae Young chants on shut down 7th Ave after. What a dream!!

Unless they are coached by Thibs, according to some here…

The way the players were reacting to each and every play Boston was trying to run in the first half was jaw dropping. They knew and anticipated everything Boston was about to do. Best defensive performance of the season by a mile. And they continued in the third quarter as well. Thibs and his coaching staff deserve a lot of credit.

OG’s defense set the tone in that first quarter. He was everywhere.

He and Mitch are such difference makers. Need them to stay healthy!

I will never think that Mikal was “technically” worth what Leon paid for him, but he played big this entire series and is as big of a reason why we won as anyone. Maybe even the series MVP.

The defensive effort and awareness the entire game was incredible. White was in jail

We were defending well from the start, a lot of deflections, a few blocks, timely switches – excellent defense in the first quarter. It continued most of the game.

But my two favorite plays were:

1) the defensive possession where Mitch made his way from one side of the court to the other, guarding 4 of not all 5 Celtics, ultimately sprinting out to Brown, who he smothered and then took the ball away. Just wow.

2) Brunson isolating vs Brown in the third quarter, knowing her had 5 fouls, and getting him off his feet and stepping to the hoop to draw the sixth foul. So smart, so heady. That felt like game right there.

johnlocke, congrats on being at a landmark game. I felt the same way at game 4, like the worm was finally turning. The celebrations in the streets are phenomenal, the whole city is behind this team, just like it was in the championship years!

OG bothered everyone on their team at one moment or another, he might just be the most disruptive defender in the league.

Bridges did have an excellent game. Very glad to see it.

But the real key is that we destroyed them on the boards. 55-36. No team can overcome that possession difference unless they shoot lights out from 3 at high volume…and Boston did not.

“OG bothered everyone on their team at one moment or another, he might just be the most disruptive defender in the league.”

Yeah, that’s pretty much a given, but it was when he started hitting shots that we pulled away.

But overall, the defense was fantastic from all 7 players. Josh Hart did 5 things that had me pulling the little bit of hair I have left out, but his impact was also enormous.

“Real question: Have we come down off the mezzanine yet??”

Somewhere dwarfing the orange and blue Empire State Building is the steaming pile of rhetorical bullshit that has polluted this blog for the last several years. But I’m expecting more spin and drivel soon. For now, let’s all enjoy the moment.

Unless they are coached by Thibs, according to some here…

Fire this motherfucker already! He does not know how to coach modern basketball! He is running us to the ground! He is not creative! He does not know how to run an offense! He is stubborn!… Oh well. Why pay attention to the imbeciles, Z-man? Every team has them. Just ignore them.

Sipping some more Pinot. Life is gooood!

Largest clinching win differential against a defending champion in NBA history. 38! Did anybody say Boston is better? 😂😂😂

Somewhere dwarfing the orange and blue Empire State Building is the steaming pile of rhetorical bullshit that has polluted this blog for the last several years. But I’m expecting more spin and drivel soon. For now, let’s all enjoy the moment.

One of the long-standing problems with this blog is the number of armchair GMs who are too proud to admit when they’re wrong. They seem more invested in being right about the moves the franchise should have made than in actually celebrating the team we have.

This Knicks team has been a joy to watch from the start — fun and full of heart. They’ve won a lot of games and exceeded expectations. But for some people here, it was never enough. They were too focused on what it would take to get past the second round, convinced they had the answers. Now, after the Knicks just beat the defending champs — against all consensus opinion — those same critics have gone silent.

Still, if the Knicks don’t make it past the ECF, I’m sure many will crawl back just to say “I told you so.” And that’s what frustrates me. Too much of this blog has been consumed by complaints about what the team isn’t, what it should’ve been, and what it’ll never be — instead of just enjoying the ride

Rough, I will say this: I watched the game with my Olympic-bball-playing sister, and for one, it’s annoying how much more she can see than I can (lol), but for two, she thought that most of the players are excellent – she’s especially impressed by Brunson, who she felt is amazing – but said she isn’t really impressed by the coach. She thought the team was clearly very prepared, but their offense is rudimentary, and the coach made some obvious tactical mistakes, like not putting in Mitch at the start of quarters instead of at the eight minute mark, not playing Deuce more (she thought he was highly disruptive on defense), and calling for a review where even if you win you get possession but lose your last challenge – “what if they make a run? What if they get two quick fouls on Brunson? Just dumb.” So though she said she would love to play on a team that solid, she wasn’t so sure this coach is getting the best out of them.

She also laughed at Hart three or four times and said that he exemplified something one of her coaches had preached: you have to play like a scavenger. No one is above being a rat, diving for lose balls, chasing rebounds, hustling to make every play. She said his name is appropriate.

Needless to say, I agreed with pretty much all of it!

This is already a successful season regardless of what happens in the next round. Of course I want to beat Indiana, but any way you slice it making the conference finals is a successful season. The Knicks had their struggles with Detroit but ultimately outclassed them, and when Boston left openings in games one and two, we took advantage. We closed it out by playing very well at home in games 4 and 6.

Maybe we’re rounding into form at just the right time. The wins in games 4 and 6 were probably the best ball this team has played all year.

Home court in the conference finals.

sounds crazy…

I give up on mitch starting, heck, actually maybe deuce should be in the starting lineup too, let josh and mikal come off the bench 😊

Rama, Details aside, not the place to go back and forth now, there is a lot that I see and don’t like during every game. There is a lot I have criticisms about. But I refrain from parading simplistic opinions such as “Thibs does not understand basketball” and the like, and repeating those ad nauseam.

Cheers!

PS. I could respond to what your girlfriend said, I don’t think I agree with her, but this is besides the point.

I give up on mitch starting, heck, actually maybe deuce should be in the starting lineup too, let josh and mikal come off the bench 😊

I’d be down with that.

Has anyone heard anything about Mitch’s back?

He’s a critical part of this team now. The defense is at a different level when he’s playing well. Even though he’s limited on offense, the surplus OREBs add value.

I even saw him create some space for Towns to drive a couple of times by boxing out a potential help defender.

I like when he and Deuce are on the court together and I like when he’s in for Hart with the rest of the starters.

“This is already a successful season regardless of what happens in the next round.”

Will certain folks here be saying that if we lose to the Pacers? Or will they be saying that the Knicks had all the cards and their best chance in this iteration to win a championship but Thibs (or Leon, or OG, or KAT, or Bridges) caused them to blow this golden opportunity? You know, the whole “pulled his pants down” thing?

Mitch deserves credit for making more FTs in the last 2 games. Maybe his success will carry over into the next series.

I will say this: I watched the game with my Olympic-bball-playing sister,

Nice 👍
