2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Jazz – Let’s Start 2025 Like They Ended 2024!

The Knicks get to fatten up a bit more before taking on the Thunder twice in five games.

I love that the Knicks got the Magic almost entirely during the period when the Magic had all of the injuries. Suck it, Magic!

Let’s go, Knicks! 58 wins is on the low end right now!

Lazy slow first day of 2025 in my house, I need an orange & blue energy shot!

Let’s Go Knicks! 🏀💙🧡💙🏀

Wonderful New Year’s to find out MSG is beefing with Optimum. Guess I’m back to the streaming sites of varying repute.

Well, if Brunson has to be out 1 game, it’s better that it is against the Jazz, i guess.

Gooooo Knicks! 🧡💙

I just learned that notorious stout defender Tim Hardaway Junior is third in the league in charges drawn…

If it’s not serious, I definitely welcome Brunson getting a breather. If we can’t beat Utah at home without him we’ve got bigger problems.

Brunson was “questionable” before the last two games, it’s time to protect him a bit…

Payne makes more sense with the starters I think, but the last minute switcheroo was kind of funny and weird. We’ve exercised a lot of demons but still aren’t quite totally normal.

Hmm maybe Deuce is hurt?

Edit: I really, really hate the rule that allows refs to take off points from the board several plays after the fact.

I just tried to tune in and discovered the same. Fucking Dolan.

The things OG does on defense are remarkable

Feels like every game in this recent stretch has been opponents shooting 50% from deep while the Knicks are like 8-32.

Knicks say Miles McBride is questionable tonight due to hamstring tightness. Happened in warmups. McBride was supposed to start at PG with Jalen Brunson (calf) out.— Ian Begley (@IanBegley) January 2, 2025

One could google “NBA Reddit streams” if one happens to find themselves without MSG networks and didn’t want to pay Dolan for his greed.

EB, I saw Huk in warmups, so I presume Kolek is lurking around somewhere. Hope he gets some burn…

Kolek playing after playing 40 minutes earlier today is Peak Thibs (I don’t blame him)

Kolek only 2pts away from a 40pt day and we’re only in the 2nd quarter!!!

This might be the worst half Towns has played this season? (I typed this before the travel).

Cam Payne starting PG has been the exact type of experience I expected so far.

Realistically Wemby should probably get the next 10-12 DPOYs, but maybe with some voter fatigue we can snag one for OG one of these years.

OG is a total menace on defense. If he could get his 3 point stroke going again he’d be a killer.

Cromulent half of basketball considering they still can’t quite make 3s. Really enjoyed Mikal and OG on defense.

Just gonna say, Marechal. KAT’s quietly (yawn) going for another 30, it seems…

Considering his impact on both sides I don’t think it’s premature to start talking about him in the MVP conversation even though I don’t expect him to get it until the Spurs are better.

He does that so often. You think he’s had a quiet game, and he’s 32-13 on like 18 shots.

Shamet got some burn, Kolek got some burn, maybe they can win a little trust from Thibs and extend the rotations…

OG would be amazing if he didn’t force a couple dumb drives every game.

Hart ruins a beautiful line by scoring points.

Bridges and KAT making it look easy.

Being able to challenge foul calls is the worst rule change the NBA has ever made.

Precious has to have the lowest basketball IQ on the Knicks. Such a frustrating player to watch cause he has a bunch of great plays too.

My supply of patience for Cam Payne is quickly dwindling…

You can’t count on Precious on anything that needs basketball-IQ…

This is where Brunson tends to be very valuable. When the team starts melting down he’ll take over a possession, score and settle things down.

Jordan Clarkson is the best player on the floor.

That’s why you never say bad things about a streaky shooter during a game… 😉

3 poing game from precious starting to get a little interesting

Indeed. He’s been hitting a few from that left corner.

Shamet played well in the first half, not sure why he isn’t seeing the floor now.

And I hate Jordan Clarkson, hall of fame “random guy who seemingly goes off on the Knicks” for sure.

I love Kolek.

He’s going to have issues on defense and make some young mistakes for awhile, but he plays the position really well and can run a team. What a steal!

Guys on this site worrying about losing to Jordan Clarkson is peak Knickerblogger angst.

Never worried about losing to Clarkson but it is fun lamenting watching him go off for a bit. He has won 6th man of the year before mainly due to his scoring.

Years from now when Clarkson dies, the headline should read Jordan Clarkson Finally Passes.

Oh yes, the trade that brought us Josh Hart for Cam Reddish and some nobodies is a top 5 all time trade in franchise history.

Brunson had a look of astonishment on his face after that Hart dunk. 🤣

LOL he wasn’t alone on that one.

KAT doesn’t flop though, he actually tries to finish thru the contact but doesn’t get rewarded for it.

Utah isn’t good but they beat us before and this is a very nice team win.

KAT put up great numbers, OG and Mikal provided scoring and defense, J-Hart is an all-around star, the bench did help, Precious is working on his corner threes and I loved Kolek’s minutes…

Getting Kessler would have been the safer choice given last year, but I’m so glad they went for KAT instead.

Yes, they should arrest Leon for the trade he engineered to get Hart. It was straight up thievery.

Quickley 21 points 15 assists.

If that team would have been healthy they’d probably be a play in team with a lot of young talent and upside. Instead they’ll get a lottery pick and could be a surprise team next year if they can stay healthy.

“Getting Kessler would have been the safer choice given last year, but I’m so glad they went for KAT instead.”

Ironically, they got him for arguably a lower price than Ainge wants for Kessler!

“The Knicks would be better off with Kessler instead of Towns because he’s a better defender”…LOL

Happy New Years

Nice win to prep for the OKC game. I still don’t love playing our wings 40+ minutes every night especially since Shamet gave some really good minutes and probably deserves more playing time…

Breen was right to dunk on Clarkson. Terrible game with a lot of iso and crazy shots went in. Empty calories scorer and absolute nothing on D. Yuck, someone else can have him

Bridges with a quiet 27pts on 12 for 17 shooting.

This was the kind of game that showed just how much talent we have in the starting unit. We were missing our #1 scorer. Tonight Bridges and OG stepped up and showed they are both capable of doing more than they do on most nights all while remaining efficient.

We know this is not a perfect team, but it’s damn good and will be better when Mitch comes back.

Toronto even when fully healthy suck.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to bet the “over” next year without even seeing what the number is.

No one said they are contenders, but they’ve been decimated by injuries to key young players the entire season (or their tanking strategy is to sit out guys that can play). With one more year under their belt, a lottery pick and a healthy squad they are going to make a big jump next year.

Josh Hart has registered his second consecutive game recording a triple-double.

He is now the first Knick since Michael Ray Richardson (1981) and the fifth in franchise history to accomplish this. 📈

Good win. Thunder will be a great mid season test. We def need to get back on track from there to beat the elite teams. Everyone played well, loved Koleks command of the offense. Payton was infuriating — he plays like Allen Iverson except he’s a backup pg. Kat had to clap for the ball, passing as a last resort. He doesn’t make anyone better but himself out there, fine for 10 to 15 mins if he’s hot, but frustrating to watch otherwise

I actually thought Payne played well enough for a backup PG in an emergency start. 36 minutes, 9 ast, 3 tov, 3 stls +5. For a vet’s minimum player, I’ll take it!

Kolek’s 2025 got off to a great start! Nice to see him and Jalen hitting it off on the bench. Maybe he’s ready for more!

Surprised Payne had 9 assists. He still forces too much at the expense of the team.

Who the hell is Payton? Elf hasn’t played here for a long time, and Gary II never did.

I was pretty impressed with the Wiz in terms of effort and teamwork. Glad to see them get a win. Also shocked to see that Bub Carrington played 31 minutes after being wheeled off the court the other night. Tough kid!

Didn’t realize the Thunder are playing the Clippers tomorrow night

So they’ll be on a back to back Friday, hope the Clips game goes into triple OT!

Yeesh, I read some of those hot takes on the Josh Hart trade.

Many did not age well…

“The Bulls lost by 18 to the Wizards?? They should be disqualified from the play in”

Let’s stay humble and be careful with statements like this, please. We didn’t have to deal with Jordan Poole in either game, and if he had played in the game against us that went into OT, let’s be real: there could have easily been a different result. He went off for 30 in his first game back.

“Doogie, take Filipowski off your list…”

I kind of disagree a little bit. I think that 6 rebounds and a block in 11 minutes of play could be useful. We’re only trying to “tinker a little bit on the edges” here, not make any huge deals that change the overall composition of the team. We’re already very good, and we’re basically just trying to add a bench player.

Whether Thibs would play *any* of the guys we’ve discussed is a whole ‘nother conversation, though. That aspect makes acquiring a rookie a little bit more difficult, but it also makes it cheaper with more upside.
