Just to make it clear: we have some banged up guys, but lose on our turf to Bam, old men Lowry & Love and a bunch of fighting scrubs would have been embarrassing as hell*.

That said, winning is the only meaningful things in the playoffs, no matter who’s playing or not, so I’m really happy that we won.

    – Man, did we get lucky with the refs this time! I agree that the call on Bam’s foul was right “in the spirit of the rule” but everyone thought the basket would’ve been disallowed and that was a big 4 points swing.
And then there was the 24-second violation that wasn’t, 2 points erased: wasn’t it challengeable?
Sometimes (always?) it’s better be lucky than good…

    – Thibs did talk about “refs letting too much contact go” after Game-1 and Spo was whining about them after this one. Brace youself for the Heat shooting 40 FTs in Game-3.

    – Spo is a genius. To have this bunch of UDFA compete on this stage, at this level, is beyond “good work” (and he has zero COTY!).
I don’t think Thibs did egregiuos mistakes in this game, we had our chronic issues against the zone and some headaches with 3-point defense, it’s just that the other coach is better.

    – I agree with Hubert.
While we had a good season this is a rare opportunity and we need to pounce, home court advantage in the 2nd round doesn’t happen easily.
So it doesn’t matter if we’re DOOMED, we need to steal one down in South Beach.

    – Three full days of rest are good for both teams. And whilst our wounded heal, Thibs needs to find some counters (in all honesty our idiosyncrasy at targeting defensive weak links is annoying, just as our frequent brain freeze against zones).

    – We won the rebounds game (50-34), but had less PiP (38-34 Heat). Miami tried to limit our raids in the paint and force us to bomb from distance, but this time we did shoot a sound 40% from 3 and the plan failed (barely).

    – The Little General is clearly banged up, but luckily he got hot at the right moment (9-13 FG, 5 threes, 23 points in the 2nd half) after a cold start (1-6 1st half). Only 2 assists is very unusual though.

    – Julius, another wounded, played very well (25/12/8 6-6 FTs) but he just can’t help himself, he’s ticketed to at least three dumb plays every game.
Curiously he didn’t take a shot in the entire 4th quarter but did many little things.
We’re clearly better with Good Julius, especially when Obi goes full Sue Storm (10 minutes, no points, 0-2 FG, 1 rebound, -8).

    – RJ did his classic Jeckill & Hide act. Brilliant in the 1st half (19 points, 6-10 FG, 4-6 3FG) a non entity in the 2nd (5 points, 2-7 FG) and benched the last 7 minutes (probably for defensive issues), when the Knicks went from down-6 to win by-6.
Anyway I’m okay with playoffs-RJ so far (maybe I have a low bar?).

    – Early bad omen, Mitch committed his first dumb foul after one minute on a Bam and-1, and fouls hounded him all game long. Zero blocks is unusual but he’s clearly not 100% and Miami’s defense at times challenge him to do something with the ball, not his main strenght (I-Hart is more apted to do it).

    – The Hart Foundation is one of the main reasons we won this game. Both weren’t perfect but they matched the Heat’s intensity and their relentless energy was a key in the 4th.
J-Hart did everything but shoot well (4-11 FG, 3 missed FTs balanced by 11 rebounds and 9 assists), I-Hart touched an inappropriate amount of balls (9 rebounds, 4 offensive) and was useful directing traffic in the high-post and placing stonewalling screens.

    – IQ is losing a lot of money, he had some moments (2 heavy baskets in the 4th) but again was often hesitant and his long range shot is way off. We desperately need him to step up. And then re-sign him with a discount 😉

    – I think Grimes is still bothered by the shoulder injury (always a bad issue for a shooter) and his confidence seems shaken. But he was on the floor the entire 4th quarter and did a silent good work on defense.

    – Daily Rant:
We lack a reliable knockdown shooter. Not necessarily an Allan Houston, but a Trent Tucker, a Hubert Davis, someone that give you that “it’s going in” sense when the ball’s flying.
Our closest is Fournier, but now he lives in Siberia.
And oh by the way, there’s no chance in the world that Eric Spoelstra would let an established player rot on the bench for months when he can be useful in the postseason, no matter his other deficiencies. You keep everyone involved, try any lineup, prepare for any emergency. That’s what the 82-games regular season is for, at least for good teams.

    *
It doesn’t matter because in the playoffs the only thing that matters is win, but a lot of people tends to forget that on top of missing Butler, the Heat are missing 34.9 min/game-20.1 pts/game Herro (1st in minutes, 3rd in scoring) and 26.3 min/game-10.7 pts/game Oladipo (7th in minutes, 6th in scoring).
Again, I don’t give a fuck but, if you add that to Butler, they’re filling 55 pts/game (the number are higher with Playoffs-Jimmy) and 95 min/game with the Haywood Highsmiths and the Cody Zellers of the world…

    Whew!

I still haven’t recovered from last night’s game. Miami is TOUGH! Spoelstra is elite. It’s gonna take alot more than we’ve shown to win this series.

The only real comment I have about the game is, that was probably the best all around game Randle has ever played in the NBA considering the circumstances. Bum ankle..game 2 and down 0-1 against your heated rival..overall below his standards playoff performance- but he was INCREDIBLE last night. Even with the heat check shots he took.

    Salute that man

Loved Randle. Between this and the first half of Game 5 in Cleveland, I think he’s put to bed the notion that he shrinks or melts down when the spotlight turns brighter. He’ll never be perfect — I screamed when he put his foot on the baseline for that turnover — but it’s clear that a lot of his rough play in the first round was injury-related.

But I could enjoy this more if I didn’t know that we were doomed.

Randle had his defensive issues last night (ie. playing off Duncan Robinson at the 3 point line) and obviously the brain fart turnover on the inbounds in the last minute, but otherwise – one of the most under-control games we’ve seen him play. Very very few bad shots, 8 assists vs only 3 turnovers – the offensive foul called on him in the first half was pretty weak (mostly a flop after he was actually fouled by the trailing defender), then the one where he drove to the basket and had an open layup but for whatever reason passed off to Mitch, who wasn’t ready for the ball — FWIW if Mitch had caught the ball, it would’ve been an easy dunk for him, and then the one on the baseline in the last minute.

Brunson really is going to be a problem on the defensive end. Hiding him on Strus is hard because Strus can just shoot over him easily. Probably best to put him on Gabe Vincent and force Miami to let Gabe Vincent try and win the series for them.

Really really need IQ and Grimes to wake up.

by the way – what was the argument against calling Bam for a foul on the 4 point play? I mean he knocked Hartenstein over. Was it that it may have happened before the ball was out of Brunson’s hand?

Was it that it may have happened before the ball was out of Brunson’s hand?

    Yes.
The foul is a no brainer but they could have called it as a “before the shot”, erasing JB’s three (plus I-Hart’s FT) and just giving us an inbounds.

Brunson was getting burned by Strus all night long. Definitely need to switch him on to Vincent so there’s not so much of a size difference. Vincent is not the kind of guy who’s gonna be able to hunt JB effectively. Maybe it’s partly an ankle issue but even so—that needs changing defensively.

We’re playing the 8 seed in the second round and three of their 6 best players are hurt.

Waiting for us in the next round are two very beatable teams.

We may never be this good again; this may be the best opportunity the Knicks ever have.

At the beginning of the season I predicted 48 wins and a first round exit. You always expect that anything can happen- big injuries, trades, coaches getting fired. But you assess where you are with all your resources and make some guesses how they’ll be deployed and make a call. You don’t get to say, oh, well, we should win more because x happened or y happened. You take that into account.

You take into account Julius had played well and could do do again.
You take into account the young guys may improve.
You take into account that Brunson’s numbers without Doncic were very solid.
You take into account we are a deep team that can withstand a lot of injuries.
You take into account that Thibs plays the regular season like the playoffs.
And you take into account the opposition, their strengths and weaknesses.

Doing that, if you had said, hey, we’ll be duking it out in the second round with the Heat, I’d have said ‘fantastic!’ Because a lot can happen during the season, and to arrive at a place better than you hoped is something to be happy about.

As for this series, they have the better coach. They have the better #1 player. They have multiple postseasons more experience than we do. Our best 4 players are all playing hurt. Of course I want to win, but perspective: this is further than I thought we’d go, and while there’s been a lot of ugly play, bad decisions, etc, they are playing with heart and we’re tied 1-1 with the mentally toughest team in the east. I’m gonna enjoy it and not move the goalposts because more is possible. More was always a possibility; so was Less.

I remember in the game where Julius first turned his ankle late in the regular season, you could see the lightbulb really going off that no team in the league can really stop him from swinging down to the basket like a wrecking ball. It’s been harder for him to do that in the playoffs because he’s so clearly hobbled. But hopefully the ankle gets better as the series goes along, and he can start sledgehammering the HEat on a regular basis.

Josh Hart food wish list for postgame pressers throughout the rest of the playoffs:

    1. Gyro
    2. Sushi
    3. Philly cheesesteak
    4. chicken soup
    5. Bagel sandwich
    6. pretzel dog
    7. taquitos
    8. caesar salad
    9. pad thai
    10. smoothie
    11. fettucini alfredo

(note: he only eats after wins)

assists), I-Hart touched an inappropriate amount of balls

    Bravo Max!

I’ve never been with a more nervous crowd than at MSG last night. Especially when we went down 6 in the 4th quarter.

A win is a win, but Thibs needs to do some serious film study and figure out why we were getting burned by the likes of Caleb Martin and Gabe Vincent.

Speaking of Martin, Spo had him guarding Brunson all night. We’ve gotta figure out a way to make them pay for putting Vincent on Hart, Hart was very tentative all game.

I’m gonna call bullshit on saying we should be disappointed if we lose because Miami is an 8th seed and is missing 3 of their best players.

We won the first round with Julius Randle injured. He is our all-star. He was second team all NBA 2 seasons ago. Yes, Brunson is our leader and should have been an all star but Randle has carried this team many many nights. They won against us in game one without Randle. We won in game 2 without Butler. That’s a fair trade.

And really. Victor Oladipo? Wasn’t this the dude who was completely washed before showing up in Miami? And Tyler Herro is a great offensive player but he is a weak link for them on defense.

Stop calling dudes like Vincent scrubs. If Grimes hits 4 or 5 threes in a game and scores 15 or 20 do we go “wow our scrub went off!” We don’t think Grimes is a scrub, so why is Vincent a scrub?

The Heat are notorious for finding these dudes. Why do you think they keep making the playoffs despite never having high draft picks. Because they have a specific player profile/personality that they go for with their role players and then they mold them with their system and culture. So no, Gabe Vincent or any other dude that comes off the bench for Miami isn’t a scrub.

Kyle Lowry is a multiple all-star who’s battled for years in the playoffs and has a ring. Same with Kevin Love. Just because their old doesn’t mean they aren’t capable of playing at their approximate peak level in the playoffs.

Miami is a good fucking team. Maybe not on paper but paper ain’t shit in the playoffs. A win is a win. And we’re playining with Randle, Brunson, Mitch and Grimes all not 100 percent.

Of course I want to win and yes, if we win this series we got a legitimate shot at a title, but saying this would be a disappointment? I mean, it would be cause you never want to lose but this season has been a huge success and we have a great future ahead for us. Let’s keep it in perspective.

This series is going to teach our young guys a lot. They learned a lot against Cleveland but we’re facing grown ass men right now. The Heat went to the Finals 2 years ago. They went to the Conference Finals last year. They just knocked off the team with the best record in the NBA. They are no joke.

    Rant over LOL.

Just glad we got the W and we got a few days for our dudes to heal. Butler will be back but maybe a few days will help Randle, Brunson, Mitch and Grimes.

I would also consider starting Grimes again. That’s what got us here. Grimes starts. Hart off the bench. Our bench needs help and Grimes defense and shooting (hopefully) could help our starting line up.

We gotta run Miami off the 3 point line. They regressed in the 4th and that’s why helped us win (playing Grimes over RJ for defense was smart). But Spo is clearly banking on the hot shooting from 3 sustaining them for this series because we are the better team on paper. But Miami isn’t going to make a lot of mistakes. If we can limit their 3 point shooting and get them to go cold for a few games, we got this.

    According to NBA.com’s hustle stats:

    * Hartenstein had 7 screen assists for 17pts. Mitch had 1 for 2pts. Miami had 8 for 21pts.

    * Hartenstein had 7 of our 13 deflections.

    * He led the team in shots contested with 10, including the most contested 3s with 6.

I will say I’m enjoying a lot watching the Heat fans go crazy about being “robbed” by the big market Knicks to extend the series, it’s been fantastic. Very grand for a franchise that won their first title by performing armed robbery against the Dallas Mavericks in 2006.

It was a great game to be at, stressful as hell but that’s what makes it fun at the end when you survive, I guess!

Read the game thread this morning and was pretty amused by some of the apocalyptic hot takes.

I’m with walkerandbender and ramahawk. Would love to go to the ECF and beyond, but no matter what happens, this season has been a resounding success.

As to whether we will ever have this chance again, who knows? What I do know is that I really am proud this what team, this coach, and this front office has accomplished this year, and nothing that happens from here on out will change that one iota. As to the future, I’m sticking to my guns that I will withhold full judgment on the FO until we see what they put on the floor to start the 2023-24 season.

    1. Gyro
    2. Sushi
    3. Philly cheesesteak
    4. chicken soup
    5. Bagel sandwich
    6. pretzel dog
    7. taquitos
    8. caesar salad
    9. pad thai
    10. smoothie

basketball aside, that’s a pretty darn tasty list right there…

    I’m feeling a bagel sandwich this morning…mmmmmm, with a smoothie…

As to referring to guys like Gabe Vincent, Max Strus, and Caleb Martin as “scrubs”, I’m guessing that Heat fans (all 30 of them) think the same about Grimes, IQ and Obi, and even Josh Hart.

The list would also likely make Hart blow up like a balloon. Or maybe not, given the insane condition he keeps himself in.

It’s pretty cool to have two incredible physical specimens on the team in Randle and Hart. One is built like a cinderblock, and the strongest guy we’ve had on the team since at least the 90s, if not before, while the other is like the Energizer bunny, playing at a breakneck pace without ever seeming tired, even when Thibs plays him for 47 minutes. We’ve had plenty of good players over the past 20+ years, but other than Nate Robinson (whose insane hops were mitigated by his height), you’d have to go back at least to Anthony Mason to find someone on the roster who made you gape in awe at how a human body can look and function like that.

I’m a bit torn between both camps right now, to be honest. At first, we’re facing a heavily depleted team that wasn’t super talented to begin with, and our guys are playing to a lower standard than what we’ve seen them do already, so it would be a disappointment to lose; but it’s also true that those underwhelming guys at Miami are supremely well coached and that the Knicks do have issues that we all knew would probably prevent this team from reaching the ECF in the first place.

So my stand right now is that yes, this season can be considered a success already and it’s been wonderful to be this competitive when most expected us to fold in the first round. It’s a great building moment for the future. But I can’t deny I will be disappointed if we lose in 5, for example; if we lose in 7 after a hard fought series I’ll be feeling much better overall.

You forgot one Alan: bacon egg and cheese on a roll with salt pepper and ketchup

As to referring to guys like Gabe Vincent, Max Strus, and Caleb Martin as “scrubs”, I’m guessing that Heat fans (all 30 of them) think the same about Grimes, IQ and Obi, and even Josh Hart.

    You bet they do! 😀

if you thought the teams at full strength (minus herro) would be a knicks in 6 scenario then we’re basically tracking having given up game 1… obviously winning last night was imperative and it wasn’t pretty but things can change rather quickly in any series and now the focus is on the heat and how healthy butler will be…

our offense finally got going and we did it with a big 3 and not much else…. it does come with a slight asterisk with no butler but it’s nice to see the offense show up finally…. Randle needs to come up big the rest of the way since he’s the one guy miami doesn’t have great answers for and he did last night…. it’ll be interesting how miami handles the knicks at full strength…

Also, you guys are REALLY moving the goalposts in this scrub argument. No one will ever say Lowry or Love are scrubs, they are just great players who are currently washed because of old age. Strus and Martin are also pretty decent role players. But I’m sorry, Cody Zeller, Highsmith, Robinson, are literal scrubs that wouldn’t get a single minute in any other playoff team rotation, I guess maybe the Suns since they’re so empty on the bench right now. Even Vincent who’s been showing a lot in the playoffs is a -3.4 BPM for the season.

Calling them scrubs is just stating the fact that they are overperforming their averages by a lot because they’re supremely well coached and they fit perfectly into the specific system they’re in.

by the way – what was the argument against calling Bam for a foul on the 4 point play? I mean he knocked Hartenstein over. Was it that it may have happened before the ball was out of Brunson’s hand?

Basically, the right call (ball out of bounds, no basket) was seen as so morally offensive that they made up a reason to give Brunson the bucket.

I think very few are calling this season “a disappointment” (to be honest I’ve a hard time finding one).

What people are saying is that we must not be satisfied and try everything until we’re out because this is a great and unpredictable chance to go far deeper in the playoffs than we ever dreamed before the start of the season.

There will be months and months to rejoice over this great season (because that’s what it is), when our post-season will be over.

Maybe the point is just that this fantastic season is not over yet.

You forgot one Alan: bacon egg and cheese on a roll with salt pepper and ketchup

[extremely fake Don Draper voice] THAT’S WHAT THE BAGEL SANDWICH IS FOR!

Also, you guys are REALLY moving the goalposts in this scrub argument.

    ……

Calling them scrubs is just stating the fact that they are overperforming their averages by a lot because they’re supremely well coached and they fit perfectly into the specific system they’re in.

Thanks Bruno, you said it perfectly, my answer was too unpolite to be posted 😉

The season has been good. But in the absence of any superteam, the Knicks have the potential to make a very deep playoff run. This may be our best shot in a long while.

I daren’t speculate too much on how far we can go. I will say there’s a lot of vulnerable teams, ones we’ve shown we can beat.

I’d just like to say we’re in the 2nd round and they won’t sweep us, as some of you were sure it’d be the case on the game thread, so… i’m happy! 🙂
And i’ll add that we won the same way we usually do, outrebounding them and with Brunson being clutch again. We play a lot better in Miami than at MSG, i won’t be surprised if we get back to NY up 3-1. 😉

it’s very possible to be excited with how things ended up but also simultaneously disappointed if we don’t advance… we have been granted a lot of fortune these playoffs… but losing to an 8 seed miami squad would muddy a lot of the good we accomplished…

that game was not an enjoyable experience, but we managed to beat a bunch of scrubs when it counted.

If we play Philly at some point in an alternate universe, definitely gotta go with the cheesesteak.

In another alternate universe, he should eat some New England clamchowder against Boston.

Hubert took objection to a comment that we’re “playing with house money” and I get what he’s saying. You never know what windows of opportunity look like in this league, and we have a pretty good one right now, at this exact moment, because there is no unbeatable leviathan of a team that stands in our way. Windows can close faster than you think.

That’s not to say that if we lose to the Heat, that we’re not going to contend next year, or in the near future. Just that this isn’t really a “playing with house money” kind of situation, because there is so much parity in the league, and that we’re actually a very good team. We’re a longshot, but we probably have more than a 0% chance to win a freaking chip! I don’t think it was meant as a negative comment.

    Great cap, Max. Thx!!

Re disappointments: Agree no one is calling this season disappointing. But disappointment is also situational, as in I am disappointed b/c we should have won last night by twenty points instead of sneaking a victory thanks to several bad calls. Trust me, I’m generally a rah rah fan, but I hope our guys realize they stole that game and then they re-calibrate for the rest of the series.

Losing to Jimmy and Lowry and Love in a brutal series would be fine, but specifically IQ, Grimes, and Obi could/should be proving themselves a bit more for our longterm hopes to pan out. Several TV cutaways showed Obi banging himself on the head after being taken out. He knows what’s up. I’m not sure IQ does know. Grimes is hurt, so …

Re iHart: I can’t say enough about that guy. Stats quoted above confirm the eye test. He was everywhere, and, while I love Mitch, iHart showed resolve and calm that seemed a bit better. Sacrilege to say, I know, but I don’t think Mitch is 100%, so I’m not dogging the guy. iHart was just locked in and unwilling to lose.

Re RJ: he is a conundrum for sure. Playoff RJ bailed us out in Cleveland, and last night he was essential in the 1st half or we lose by 20. I hope this RJ is real.

The Plexiglass Principle is definitely in play here, where we regress next season, either through some of our own guys not playing as well, or because other that struggled this year start playing up to their talent level. That said, there is still room for improvement here: a full season with Josh Hart (who is 1000% re-signing here), potential improvement from any or all of IQ, Grimes, and RJ (whose play in these last five games has been so impressive), plus the FO’s flexibility in upgrading the roster. Even if we don’t make a star trade, simply bringing in more shooting and/or big wings would make a significant difference.

But, yes, all he elements seem to be in alignment for us to have the best playoff shot we’ve had this century, and perhaps the best we’ll have for a while. I won’t be upset if we wind up being genuinely doomed against Miami, but I’ll also recognize that we had a real opportunity here, despite the many flaws of our roster.

Gutsy win, they were clearly scared and stresses as hell and still managed to pull it off in the end.

This Miami team is not broken without Butler. The defense is strong, Bam and Lowry are good players, and they have several legit shooters so 1-2 of them are bound to get hot on any given game.

That said, unless there are new injuries I’d still take the Knicks in game 3.

RJ: he is a conundrum for sure. Playoff RJ bailed us out in Cleveland, and last night he was essential in the 1st half or we lose by 20. I hope this RJ is real.

He has a borderline elite skill, creating a shot at the rim. Sadly keeping it under control is a steep learning curve for him.

We’re a longshot, but we probably have more than a 0% chance to win a freaking chip!

Technically 18 to 1 on Fanduel this morning, which implies something around a 6% chance.

I don’t know — if you wouldn’t be extremely disappointed to a loss to the 8 seed with a bunch of its players hurt, in the most open association year in multiple decades … I’d respectfully suggest you might not be going about this whole thing exactly right.

But as previously noted, I’m going to watch the whole thing unfold and then digest and process what it means in the “big picture.”

Technically 18 to 1 on Fanduel this morning, which implies something around a 6% chance.

With the vig, which is usually pretty significant for future bets, the actual odds are lower. But fuck them, what do they know.

People are hung up on them being the 8th seed. That is irrelevant. The 8th seed just beat the 1 seed with the best record in the league. The 8th seed was in the conference finals last year. The 8th seed was in the finals 2 years ago.

They had a ton of injuries this year that they dealt with. They also probably coasted to some degree because they do not give a fuck who they play in the playoffs at this point and they got older players they wanted to keep fresh.

The 8th seed is irrelevant. The season had a ton of parity this year. A few more wins and they would have been the 6th seed.

Yeah, but the point is more that they aren’t the 1 seed as the Knicks would be playing in 98 or 99 out of 100 association seasons.

And a bunch of their players are hurt and missing games.

A loss to this team, in context, would suck. Not sure I’m seeing the purpose of preemptive sugarcoating, beyond fan emotion and easing the potential emotional burden.

I’m gonna call bullshit on saying we should be disappointed if we lose because Miami is an 8th seed and is missing 3 of their best players.

Some people are going to whine even if we win the series and then lose to the 76ers or Boston.

This season has been a spectacular success.

When we started many thought we’d be battling for a play-in spot and some were wondering if RJ and Randle were going to become albatross contracts that would kill us for years to come.

We won 48 games, are competitive in the 2nd round, and both could theoretically be moved if we wanted.

The Heat have a great organization.

    1. They get everyone into great shape.
    2. They develop players well
    3. They get everyone motivated to play really hard.
    4. They find role players than can do at least one thing really well and veterans that can handle playoff pressure.
    5. They play good sound basketball.
    6. They have an excellent coach.

The Knicks main weakness was known coming into the season. We don’t have good enough 3 point shooting.

It doesn’t take a brilliant coach to conclude that defensively they should try to clog up the paint and force the Knicks to shoot from outside. It worked in game 1 but didn’t work in game 2.

It doesn’t take a brilliant coach to realize that he has the inferior team with Butler out and he should take a lot of 3s to up the volatility still further and hope his role players just happen to have a great night from 3. It almost worked.

The Knicks are going to have to shoot well from 3 and close out consistently on their 3 point shooters to win. It won’t be easy because we don’t have good 3 point shooters and they move the ball well.

People are hung up on them being the 8th seed. That is irrelevant. The 8th seed just beat the 1 seed with the best record in the league.

One of the big shocks of the season was that they were the 8th seed. They had a lot of injuries all season and it felt like they weren’t really playing hard every night. They stepped it up for the playoffs.

He has a borderline elite skill, creating a shot at the rim. Sadly keeping it under control is a steep learning curve for him.

Often RJ’s elite skill seems completely dependent on his opponent. Like he takes the same shots game in and out, but some defenders know his schtick and lock him up easily. Other defenders, not so much. I wish RJ looked more like he could do it at will.

And god I wish Obi would learn how to take it to the hoop even half as well. He’s done it, what, a total of five times in his Knick career? Yes, yes, yes, with the 3pt practice, but get another move.

PS – I bet the Knicks to win the chip at +8000, so I (continue) to agree with all the comments about this year being wide open. Let’s f-ing go! EVEN THOUGH WE ARE TOTALLY DOOMED.

They were two minutes away from missing the playoffs altogether. As a result of two straight home court whiffs to lower-seeded teams.

Dudes, Miami is a good team. They had a bad regular season but literally this exact team went to the ECFs last year and they have an absolute ton of playoff experience. True they don’t have Herro (Oladipo sucks and it is probably to their advantage that he is out –> -2.1 BPM, WS/48 0.28, ORtg 99, DRtg 112, TS 51 on 21 usage etc) but they have a top 2 coach in the league, 2 players that are clearly top 25 players in the NBA, and the benefit of a ton of continuity on their roster. And they just beat one of the two title favorites in 5 games in the previous series.

That said – there is no doubt this is an absolutely golden opportunity for our Knicks. Miami is not a GREAT team even if they are a good team. Waiting for us if we make it out of this round would be either Boston (who we beat 3 out of 4 in the reg season) or a Philly team with a hobbled MVP candidate. We really might not have as good a shot a the NBA finals as this one for a long time.

Team has to tighten up the D. Thibs has to be on point. IQ/Grimes need to wake up on the offensive end. And we need to stay at least as healthy as we are now.

“This season was a great success” and “this season could turn out to have been our best chance to win a chip” are not mutually exclusive. We already know that the former is true, and we don’t know yet how the latter will play out.

It’s not “whining” to make that observation.

PS – I bet the Knicks to win the chip at +8000, so I (continue) to agree with all the comments about this year being wide open.

Let’s just say that I’m going to be very upset for a very long time with the 6moty voting…

We beat the Heat several times down the stretch run of the season. I’m not sure if there were a bunch of lingering injuries or a general malaise despite having some very real stakes or Kevin Love is just that good, but I feel confident saying we can beat this team whatever their pedigree.

I can be happy with the season and still upset that we let this opportunity slip.

I tend to view “disappointment” through the lens of realistic expectations. I never “expected” us to be in the second round, or to beat the Heat once we got there. My take is that we are roughly even: we have a modest advantage in terms of personnel, and they have a coaching and experience advantage. Home court means pretty much nothing.

Of course I will be very disappointed if we lose, as it is true that this version of the Heat is very beatable. But that’s a far cry from reading anything into the success or failure of the season as a whole. When we lost to the Pacers in 2013, I considered that season to be a failure. There will be no such feelings this time around.

And that’s the real disconnect here. Being very disappointed at missing out on a golden opportunity can coexist with a feeling that one would have gladly signed up for being in this position right now, no matter how things turn out in the next week or so, and therefore the season is already a success.

I would definitely be disappointed. This is a great opportunity for us to reach the conference finals or finals or even win a championship! I agree we shouldn’t settle.

My big beef right now is people dismissing the Heat as being “bad” or scrubby because they’re the 8th seed. We’re ignoring very recent history and the parity of the league this year. They’ve gone very deep in the playoffs twice in the last 3 seasons and their culture is such that you can pretty much guaranteed that their no name scrubs are going to be legit good role players.

I call BS that their role players wouldn’t have a role on any other team left in the playoffs. If they’re playing defense, mistake free basketball and hitting 3’s the way they are right now, they absolutely would have roles on any of the remaining teams. Also saying “except maybe Phoenix” kind of negates that whole argument. So they would have a role on Phoenix and Phoenix is still alive.

The Heat are good. We’re better on paper but losing to them in 6 or 7 after winning the first round…it would be disappointing but it wouldn’t negate the real progress this franchise has made this season or the success overall of the season.

That being said. Fuck the heat. Let’s beat these dudes!

“Being very disappointed at missing out on a golden opportunity can coexist with … the season is already a success.”

    Totally agree.

Max, fantastic ‘cap. The shooter you’re talking about is supposed to be Grimes, but with him not playing much and being mostly ineffective when he does it really is a void you feel. Hopefully he continues to heal and/or settle in over these next few days.

It’s funny how in the modern NBA you always have a chance to make up for a key absence offensively by just chucking threes and hoping for the best. The Heat actually had a better offensive rating last night than they did in game! Of course, Butler’s absence still gutted them defensively (see Brunson, Jalen) and to be clear they’re way, way, way better with him offensively–offensive rating aside, the lack of a certified Guy during gut check time doomed them last night.

Still, we shouldn’t apologize for beating them shorthanded. Playoff games are pretty much always difficult to win once you get passed the first round and with 3PT volatility being what it is these days there’s no such thing as a guaranteed win–look no further than the #1 seed, #1 SRS, #1 net rating Celtics losing at home to a Sixers team that gave Paul Reed 37 minutes.

Anyway, we’ve beaten them in Miami with Butler before and we can do it again. Last night’s performance had its highlights but it won’t get it done. We were a very good team in the regular season largely because we had 9 steady performers on any given night, if that’s reduced to 5-6 in the middle of a playoff series it ain’t happening for us.

I think either Quickley and Grimes get it going and we win in 6, or they don’t and we lose in 6.

Harsh judgment, probably not one shared too much in these parts — but in fact Grimes never really gave any indication that he’d be a guy to step it up in the playoffs and … well … he hasn’t.

He needs to. With Quickley playing crappy and J-Hart more of a swiss army knife guy — a really good one, but still — than a true offensive threat, there isn’t enough pop from the 2/3 position, even with RJ’s emergence. If they lose this series, that will likely be the reason.

Hopefully, like Mission Impossible, this set of observations will become moot and self-destruct over the next few days …. That’s why they play the games.

    Some things I liked:
-Both Harts playing with such energy in the 4th quarter. They made big play after big play. I am impressed with IHart. I think we can see a jump in performance next season.
-Grimes on defense, especially the 4th quarter. He was flying around. I really like Grimes and Hart out there together. They are all over the place. I am hoping Grimes learns from Hart, similar size, and starts to incorporate some of those elements in his own game next year.
-JR, RJ, Brunson, all were great at different points of the game.

    Improvements needed:
-Force some of Miami’s players (Vincent, Straus, Robinson) to drive rather than take the 3. I know that is easier said than done, but hopefully we can do it a little more.
-Our own injuries. Lots of talk about Miami’s injuries with Butler, Hero, Victor, etc., but hopefully in the next few days we see improvements with JR, Grimes, Brunson and Mitch.

The first two games reminds me of the 1990s battles with the Heat. It didn’t matter who was what seed. It was a gritty game that comes down to the last few minutes.

It’s interesting to compare this season’s 8th seed Heat team to last year’s 1 seed Heat team.

The main differences seem to be:
    1) The losses of PJ Tucker and Dewayne Dedmon
    2) Lowry declining
    3) Strus, Martin, and Vincent all regressing

The thing is, in the playoffs Love is shooting the lights out and largely making up for for 1 at least offensively. Similarly, Strus, Martin, and Vincent have all either met or exceeded their 2021-2022 regular season production in these playoffs so 3 is basically completely offset. Lowry has still been underwhelming.

So you could argue the Heat team we’re actually facing is more akin to last year’s than this year’s. I don’t fully buy it, but they’re definitely not their 40-42 pythagorean record from this year.

Sidenote: why in god’s name did the Cavs release Love? You’d think they wouldn’t just to keep him from potential competitors, if for no other reason. It makes it look that much worse that he’s playing extremely meaningful playoff minutes with the Cavs at home.

Sidenote: why in god’s name did the Cavs release Love?

My guess is something personal going on behind the scenes and they did him a solid. Makes no basketball sense whatsoever.

Sidenote: why in god’s name did the Cavs release Love?

Totally agree. I hate seeing Love on the floor against us. Cavs could have used him.

And a long long long time ago, I was hoping E4 would/could be our own savvy, situational, automatic-3-shooting vet with ice in his veins, but … quel dommage.

What will not go away until we make it go away is that the Heat are going to pack the paint and force us to make open 3s, which will be available in abundance. That means Grimes, IQ, and Obi absolutely must shoot at least as well as Strus, Vincent, and Duncan R.

I think this series doesn’t really get started until Game 4, which will be a must win for whoever loses game 3. By then, barring the unforeseen both teams should be as healthy as they could expect to be and will have made whatever adjustments that could be expected, and it will either be 2-2 coming back to MSG (I would sign up for that right now) or 3-1 (and pretty much a done deal, and likely not in our favor.)

I think all these things can be true simultaneously:

    1. Whatever else, this season, taken in isolation, was a resounding success–no one expected a first round win (I was pretty optimistic and said something midway through the season like: we have a 40% chance of winning a playoff series). Even if we lose here, we should be happy about the season, though upset about this particular playoffs outcome.

    2. If we lost to Miami in 5 or 6, that would be extremely disappointing–as we are the better team on paper. Players would have to have shrunk in the spotlight for us to lose in this fashion (a la the Bucks) and that would lead me to question whether this team as currently constructed has the ability to be perennial threats in the East.

    3. It would also be disappointing to lose to Miami in 7, but at that point you just tip your hat to Jimmy, Spo, and company. This is far less existentially worrisome for the Knicks future playoff prospects.

    4. Even though our expectations at the beginning of the season were low, we need not anchor ourselves to that initial expectation. We should *now* have our sights set on the ECF, at a minimum, hence why a loss to Miami would be disappointing no matter the number of games.

    5. This may be our best, though likely not our only, chance to win a chip in the next four years.

    6. I need the winnings from my +8000 Knicks bet, please.

that would lead me to question whether this team as currently constructed has the ability to be perennial threats in the East.

This #2 is my main concern. Obvious: this team feels special b/c so many guys seem ripe to peak at the same time (yay, win curve). Maybe me thinking these specific guys can win it all (some year) is pure irrational madness. Maybe not. And even if we (are doomed to) lose to Miami, I’ll be fine. I can get a new TV. But the hope is our guys must show/learn something to prove we’ll be back.

A reality check — I love Josh Hart with my entire soul, but we should remember that the Josh Hart we have gotten to know is not quite the Josh Hart that has existed on planet Earth. Josh Hart is a 35% three-point shooter over his career. Josh Hart shot 51.9% from three during his Knicks tenure in the regular season. Josh Hart shot 45.5% from three in the Cleveland series.

He’s 2-8 so far against Miami. He hit those two HUGE threes yesterday, which was fantastic. And he does everything else, including a great postgame schtick.

I sure hope he keeps hitting game-busting threes this playoff run. But perhaps it’s not realistic to expect it…

I can’t believe I’m about to type this into the little box, but maybe RJ’s good play in the playoffs is sustainable, and maybe a light has gone on for him.

For the most part he is not forcing the issue on offense, not wasting possessions by taking lots of shots that he can’t make. He’s attacking open space when he sees it, and is playing like a smart player a shocking amount of the time.

He’s still a liability on defense, lacks awareness on that end. But he seems to have figured out that possessions are valuable and you shouldn’t shoot the ball when there’s an opposing center six inches away from you. Let’s hope this is a real adjustment and not just SSS theater.

Maybe Grimes is still hurt and that’s why Thibs isn’t starting him. But it feels like Grimes got hurt and Hart got put into the starting line-up and now Thibs isn’t going back bc HART is the vet and it’s that Thibs preference. But IMO, Grimes should still start. That is what got us here and HART with the bench unit really helps out all of the bench players. our bench has struggled and I think Hart starting is part of the reason why. He provides vet leadership, defense, and gets the fast break going for that second unit.

I think we need to go back to Grimes starting and HART off the bench.

    We need to remember.

This is only the third playoff series for Obi, RJ, and IQ and Randle. It’s the second playoff series for mitch and grimes and hart. Brunson is the only one on this team with significant playoff experience.

These games have been rough for IQ and Grimes in particular but they are very new to this type of pressure. Each game is a huge experience for them.

I think we have a better team than miami…

hoping we’re able to put together a solid game 3…

we should be able to roll these guys in 6…

all that said, we have been, are now, and shall ever be totally and completely DOOMED…

Hart is definitely not a guy who we want to be shooting 3s in high volume, and he seems to understand that. But as a career 35% shooter with a reasonably large sample size, seems like he can be a guy who hits big shots in big situations, i.e. like a Marcus Smart except more discerning.

my hope was for the knicks to play in at least 5 games this post-season…

right now we’re slotted for at least 10 playoff games…

we got a lot of young guys on our team…this year’s playoff experience should pay dividends for the team moving forward…

have they announced the NBA Executive of the Year finalists?

My thing with RJ is that despite the large sample size of shitty play in the aggregate, he’s 22 years old. He’s done what he’s currently doing during a number of sustained stretches, but the even longer stretches of Bad RJ drown those good stretches out.

So we now know that he is “capable” of playing at a near-all-star level regardless of the level of pressure in the playoffs, at a reasonably high usage.

And the rest of the NBA knows that, too.

Whether it is real or not, it’s a hugely positive development going into the off-season. The dude has value.

this miami team is not great…. the cast of characters are mostly the same but almost all of them except for butler and herro are appreciably worse than last year…. and herro isn’t even playing….

they beat a mostly giannis-less bucks team in the first rd which is not some massive achievement… that does not require you to be great… but it does require you to show up and perform… which they have absolutely no problem doing… they also beat a Randle-less knicks team which even the cavs didn’t get that luxury…

Spo is a great coach and Butler is a great player… but there is very little evidence that this incarnation of this heat team is anything greater than what they were as an 8th seed…

this lionizing of this heat team and their heat culture just makes me want to throw up… yes you have to play the games but this is not more than the Rose-less bulls team getting eliminated after Rose tore his knee… these guys aren’t going to lay down for us but you simply have to take care of business against a team that’s not the bucks sixers or celtics….

I think we need to go back to Grimes starting and HART off the bench.

So much this. A couple weeks back someone posted the Hart/Obi stats re: transition and pace. Yes, a small sample, but they confirmed what we were watching. Our bench was getting so many easy buckets in transition and they were playing as a fluid unit. We took it for granted.

Hart still tries to push with the starters, but they have different skills. And, maybe more important, the pushing now comes at different points in the game clock. Urgent running like hell with the first subs seems to work better than running like hell from the opening tip when everyone is still trying to get in iso rhythm. And, yes, Grimes is the better shooter to hit from three on the sprayed pass from Randle, RJ, or Brunson.

Rama, say we get to the NBA finals against the Lakers. LeBron breaks a leg in game 1. AD goes down in game 2.

By the logic you’re putting forth, it’s no big deal if we lose. It’s playing with house money because you only thought they were gonna win 48 games 8 months ago and because the Knicks could be better next year.

I agree with you about this team getting better. There are 50-54 win seasons on the horizon, perhaps as soon as next year.

But that doesn’t mean this isn’t the best chance they’ll ever have.

The 99 Knicks blew away expectations in the playoffs. They got better in 2000 and 2001. But that was no house money in ’99. That was their shot.

The game completely changed at the end. It’s hard to know if it was anything more than Brunson and Hart hitting a bunch of tough threes and the Heat scrubs running out of luck. I think benching RJ seems to have been important too. IHart was absolutely amazing last night and I do think he looks better than Mitch right now.

With RJ, I see nothing being unlocked here. He’s not a 55% shooter from three. And I still have never seen a guy who manages to decelerate going to the rim like he does. It’s like the air going out of a balloon. He threw up a bunch of terrible floaters on drives and one of them quite randomly went in. I think it might have been tipped actually. And that’s basically the difference between him having a good night and having an average night.

To be clear, I am so grateful that he is putting up the numbers he is putting up and not shitting the bed like he has so often. But he’s still the same guy: 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 turnovers in 38 minutes isn’t anything to get crazy about.

Gently pushing back on the Hart/Grimes discussion. While I do love Hart coming off the bench and changing the spirit and tempo of the team, I do worry that Grimes is still nursing a dinged-up shoulder, and frankly getting out and running isn’t much of a thing against the Heat or in the playoffs in general. It’s just a slower, more grinding style of play.

Having said all that, if Grimes is good to go, then yes, sure, I vote he starts. And I really liked having them both close (sorry, RJ…).

I also hope Obi hit himself in the head hard enough to knock some sense into him. That was not a good showing.

So my stand right now is that yes, this season can be considered a success already and it’s been wonderful to be this competitive when most expected us to fold in the first round. It’s a great building moment for the future.

This is a totally different sentiment.

Everyone earned their stripes this year. Leon had a great year, Thibs had a great year, Randle had a great year.

None of that goes away if the Knicks lose to the Heat, and we can still say this has been a great season even if we lose.

It’s this idea that we’re playing with house money because we’ll be better next year that I’m calling out.

“This season was a great success” and “this season could turn out to have been our best chance to win a chip” are not mutually exclusive. We already know that the former is true, and we don’t know yet how the latter will play out.

I resemble that remark. I do understand that there is a big window for us right now, and that things can change and it won’t always be there and maybe this is the best shot we’ll get etc. But given our assets at the beginning of the season and my expectations, I’ll be fine with whatever happens…because for all we know we make a great move this summer, have a fantastic season next year, and are the presumptive favorites. It can go both ways.

I want to win. I’m pretty sure the players want to win. But we’re the youngest team still standing in the playoffs and have more assets to make more moves. This is valuable experience no matter what. I’m not going to flip out because “we should beat this scrub Heat team.” We should – but they are here for a reason, have TONS more experience then us, and concede nothing. I think they’re mentally tougher than Philly or Boston – they just don’t have the players. So beating them would be an achievement, not a given.

The 99 Knicks blew away expectations in the playoffs. They got better in 2000 and 2001. But that was no house money in ’99. That was their shot.

Speaking facts brother. Winners know that closing is everything. Life is all about capitalizing opportunities in front of us.

“This season was a great success” and “this season could turn out to have been our best chance to win a chip” are not mutually exclusive. We already know that the former is true, and we don’t know yet how the latter will play out.

It’s not “whining” to make that observation.

JK47 if I had known you’d already summed it up perfectly I wouldn’t have bothered.

I think either Quickley and Grimes get it going and we win in 6,

This is where I’m at. One would be taking a major wager against math if they think these two guys will continue to stink.

I may not trust Thibs to adjust to what’s happening in the 4Q but I have a lot of confidence in him figuring shit out with three days off. I expect to see good Quickley soon, and for the Knicks to take 3 out of the next 4.

    Con-Con
Ready as fuck yesterday to watch the game live but exhausted as gangbang after 15hrs of work…
Didn’t even hear the alarm clock!!!
Watched it in the morning and felt exactly as the game thread…

For Me 2 things will be the main factors of this series:
    Confidence and Conditioning

This is only the third playoff series for Obi, RJ, and IQ and Randle. It’s the second playoff series for mitch and grimes and hart. Brunson is the only one on this team with significant playoff experience.

    I agree.

IMO, getting playoffs experience is part of the development process. It was more important to get into the playoff this year than to worry about draft position (before we traded the pick away). Getting to the 2nd round is even better. And if we win this series even better. The team will better than it otherwise would be next year for having dealt with so many meaningful, tough, and close games.

“This season was a great success” and “this season could turn out to have been our best chance to win a chip” are not mutually exclusive. We already know that the former is true, and we don’t know yet how the latter will play out.

It’s not “whining” to make that observation.

Coming into the year it was obvious we had an unfinished team, a lot of young players, and were probably going to be in a fight to even make the playoffs. We far exceeded expectations. However, expecting to win a title with this team even now is pretty far fetched.

If this winds up being our best chance to win a title, we either had some catastrophic injuries or management F’d up royally. This is a young inexperienced team with likely internal development that also has the assets to improve externally. The expectation has to be for better in coming years unless we have terrible luck or screw up. We can’t control the luck part of it, but I’m expecting better. We all should be.

We know RJ is capable of playing well at times, but the net of all of it is still quite negative and the progress extremely slow.

I don’t think it’s an accident that Thibs used Grimes to finish last night and the team closed it out even on a night when RJ was pretty good on offense.

I think the good news is that he’s showing enough under playoff pressure to sustain some optimism he’s going to get better or that we can trade him as part of a package for an upgrade. We need an upgrade somewhere and we’ll have to give up something. It will be tough to get a primary target for just picks and contract filler.

Calling Love and Lowry washed and finished and trying to imply that Miami is not something special or that is full of scrubs seems to me strategic, forced or clueless
Just Watch the games and try to be truthful
That’s a fkn poised badass team.
I don’t like Spoelstra or Butler but these are bad mfkrs right there…

We need an upgrade somewhere and we’ll have to give up something. It will be tough to get a primary target for just picks and contract filler.

I want to be 100% clear I’m not advocating for trading Grimes. I’m just throwing this out there.

Another possibility besides upgrading from RJ is upgrading from Grimes. With the addition of Josh Hart, if we add a better SG/SF in place of Grimes in the starting lineup, then Hart and Grimes become duplicative off the bench. So it is possible to include Grimes in a package with picks and contract filler to bring in someone better.

Of course, we all love Grimes and he may grow into a much better player. I’m just saying that Grimes and Hart are similar enough that if we added a higher level SG/SF one could be traded.

If this winds up being our best chance to win a title, we either had some catastrophic injuries or management F’d up royally.

There could easily be a scenario where we improve in future years, but this was STILL our best chance at a chip. There is an uncommon amount of parity in the NBA right now, but that doesn’t mean it will stay this way forever. A couple of superstars changing teams could easily upend all of that.

I’m having a hard time seeing why this is a controversial stance to take.

If this winds up being our best chance to win a title, we either had some catastrophic injuries or management F’d up royally.

Or it could be our best chance to win a title because Giannis gets Nick Nurse and a new sidekick this summer

It could be our best chance to win a title because Dame Lillard gets traded to Philly.

It could be our best chance to win a title because Indiana wins the Wemby sweepstakes.

I could name 1,000 realistic things that could happen which would make this our best chance to win a title.

it seems like forever since the giants, yankees or knicks have won a title…

one of them is due…shit, sure didn’t seem like the g-men were destined for a super bowl win when they got it…

the yanks are heading in the wrong direction at the moment…

okay, i’m with you guys: why not the knicks – why not now…

    i like it…

    15hrs of work…

dang, but that’s a straight shot of reality there…you have sobered sir…

you need a solid meal after that…lots of proteins, carbohydrates, fats and gravy…that is mostly definitely gravy worthy effort there…

and milk, in a cold bottle…maybe a coke yoo, yeah, with a glass of water on the side…

i remember one time taking a picture of some meal i was getting ready to eat and wanted to share with a friend – it looked like some buffet thing was going on…in my defense – i eat slowly…

    rest and eat well KYN…

maybe not right now, but, you still out there shooting hoops in the park?

I mean, I have no idea what this discussion is.

I am delighted we are where we are.

I am going to worry about next year next year.

i like that pepper…this sounds really interesting:

    Beauty & Essex
“You can never judge a player based on their physical makeup, and the same can be said about when you arrive to Beauty and Essex after the game. After you enter through a thrift shop, every item on the menu is shareable for a true team effort. Start with the Korean-style fish tacos and the Thai-style deep-fried shrimp to get the meal off to a great first quarter! Then comes the game-winner: the grilled cheese soup dumplings. I’m telling you not one, not two, maybe three orders of these are necessary. Finally, make sure you save some room for the doughnut Ferris wheel to win this meal!”

    (1) Plenty of young teams show promise, including teams younger and more talented than ours, but in subsequent seasons stagnate or regress. There’s no guarantee that we improve or that a splashy trade ushers us into the upper echelon of teams.

Not long ago the Hawks were the darlings of the league after they beat us on their way to the ECF. As recently as this year the Grizzlies were a talented young team, but they’re looking close to their limit and that’s without discussing their many off court issues. The Grizzlies need to make a big trade.

    (2) Even if this isn’t our best opportunity to win a title, it’s a damn good one and we should be disappointed if they don’t take advantage of it. There’s only ever so many shots at a deep playoff run and even a better opportunity can end in disappointment. Melo’s Knicks losing to the Pacers was likely a better opportunity, but we blew it (DAMN YOU HIBBERT!!!).

    (3) While our expectations before the season were exceeded, we should develop new expectations based on new information. We didn’t have Josh Hart to start the year, Randle, Brunson, and IQ are much better than expected, and so on.

If you look at our post-Cam Reddish net rating it’s around +6, the Celtics led the league at +6.5. Why are we dismissing this roster’s proven performance in our expectations? We’re a much better team than the Heat. We should not accept losing to them.

someone already mentioned it – but, it was good to see melo in the stands enjoying himself (with family maybe?)…

hard to put too much blame on the player…that incessant hold the ball for 15 seconds while you do the jab and step back dance over and over and over again…possession after possession after possession…

still, was good to see him there…even more so – patrick ewing…my fave knick for so many years…

    #rest and eat well KYN…

maybe not right now, but, you still out there shooting hoops in the park?#

    Thanks Geo!

Went for a shootout one week ago after maaaany months…
    14/100 and then 21/100 3s!
Pathetic percentages but glad i was able to shoot 200 3s in a row after so much time!
Used to work less hrs, get less money and have less responsibilities till I’ve been proposed a better job, with more money, hrs, responsibilities and back stabbing!
I read about your troubles at work and you have my thoughts and prayers to find your peace of mind but i can’t help you with any advice since every situation is unique and details do matter.
    My only “advice”:
    Health First…
    And the rest will follow

do you shoot from all around the arc – or mainly one area?

i’m not super smart or anything, but, this anxiety shit feels very similar to being on cocaine…i’m not really any smarter – but, i am thinking really really fast…all that adrenaline causes a good bit of mania too…

i think my main issue with work – i feel constrained in being able to share with some folks just how stupid i think they are…

i hold it in, short-circuit and get sick…

so much healthier to be able to communicate honestly…kind of like we do here 🙂

oh, and KYN – i have to be honest, i interpreted you saying this with glee in your heart:

    and back stabbing!

remember, it’s always better to do unto others – first…

I shoot wherever the ball goes closer to the 3pt line after chasing it.
The goal is to move. Shooting 3s and counting keeps it interesting!

Stupidity comes in all sizes imo
We’re all stupid sometimes somewhere even if we think we’re Zeus reincarnated!

My pocketpsychology advice to stressed/anxious friends?
    ‘Be fair”
    Works for me!

The truth is that i always try to be fair with the others but ain’t always possible due to pride, laziness or selfishness.
In work i always give to the others the opportunity to start the back stabbing before i draw my… Excalibur!!!
    😉

“I shoot wherever the ball goes closer to the 3pt line after chasing it.
The goal is to move. Shooting 3s and counting keeps it interesting!”

I have a similar style. I shoot my next shot basically depending on where the ball comes off and then go out a few steps. I shoot until I hit 100 jump shots—so, yeah, I have to keep that running in my head the whole time (9 for 24, 70 for 230, etc., but I’ve been doing it so long that I don’t even have to think about it anymore). I’m very much a streak shooter, so if I’m shooting well I can do it in about an hour/300 total shots, but if I’m shooting badly it might be closer to an hour and a half/375 total shots. Oh, and then I always shoot one last one from the free throw line before I leave. Dunno.

I’m glad that I can still do this at all, since I just turned 59. I also check on my birthday each year to see if I can still execute a headstand without use of a wall, and I managed it on the first try the other day. I don’t know when it’s going to happen, but it will be a sad birthday when I can no longer do it. It’s going to happen; it’s just a matter of when!!! Just like the Knicks next championship.

    Go, Knicks!!!

    I am pro-pirates this year

And pro Sixers in this round. Love B Ball Paul and I want Harden to win too.

Aaron Boone might seriously be the worst manager/head coach in NY sports history. Makes Isiah Thomas look like John Wooden.

I try to be sympathetic to managers because there’s a lot of cheap Monday morning quarterbacking, but I have no idea what he was going for with Holmes there.

Thank god for, uh, Jake Bauers?

It’s just that this is Boone’s 6th season as manager and he hasn’t seemed to improve one tiny bit. I’m a huge Cashman fan which I know nowadays isn’t the majority position and this roster construction is beginning to make me think it’s probably time for a new front office but holy crap Boone is just I don’t even know anymore.

Makes me appreciate Thibs a helluva lot more lol

    @geo (which rhymes with NatGeo):

“Downtown Doogie Brown…I don’t wish to appear imprudent, but may I move in please…”

What on earth did I write that would make you want to hang out with me? LOL

    And: Sixers. Ouchie.

I also check on my birthday each year to see if I can still execute a headstand without use of a wall,

i find that behavior both odd and admirable 🙂

oh my goodness, not long ago i remember an analyst on nba tv talking about how they check each birthday to see if they can still do a dunk…

each birthday, i do a check to see if i can still eat pizza…so far, so good…

aaron boone seems to be good at blowing big bubbles with his chewing gum wad and has mastered the art of spitting out sunflower seeds …that counts for something in the big leagues at the managerial level….

Man, sometimes the playoffs are inexplicable. The Celtics lose to Philly when Philly doesn’t have Embiid and blow out our Philly when they do have him.

Well, this time Harden went 2-14 for the game instead of scoring 45, so that just completely killed the Sixers, and Embiid is clearly not healthy yet. I wonder how much the MVP announcement was a part of them forcing him back, or him forcing it.

It sounds like they would have been better off giving Embiid an extra game of rest

    Seems harsh Hubie!!!

Carbone is a thing but I enjoyed my visit. The flies buzzing around the red sauce were super authentic.
