2021-22 Game Thread: Knicks @ Fourth Straight Victim

The Knicks head to Memphis for their guaranteed fourth straight win and, I assume, a contract extension for Thibs after the game. Seven more years, maybe?

Let’s go to team! Not this team, but some generic concept of team.

Desmond Banes has hideously short arms. Clearly he cannot be any good at the game of basketball.

Gooooo Knicks!

just due to the confounding nature of rooting for this team – do you mean “go knicks” in today’s singular game sense, or do you really mean “go knicks” in more of a generalized: some day we all hope to root for a consistently better team, kind of way???

can’t wait to see the grizz coach and his wonderfully glowing beard along the sideline this evening…

for the record, I can go without shaving for maybe two weeks before I start going crazy and shave off the itchy stuff growing out of my face…

LOL. I see you’re on top of your game, Geo. šŸ˜‰

The last games were to late for me, so i’m only starting Deusanity tonight. I’m predicting he’ll nail three 3P.

I’ve decided the most Knicksy outcome of this season possible is we luck into the high lottery and take the kid from Kentucky who hasn’t played at all because he was great in workouts

RJ guarding Morant, but really not doing a good job. He’s not been burned badly yet, but he can’t stay with him at all.

Dying on the picks over and over.

Raven: RJ guarding Morant, but really not doing a good job. Heā€™s not been burned badly yet, but he canā€™t stay with him at all.

Granted, almost no player in the league can stay with Morant.

cybersoze: Granted, almost no player in the league can stay with Morant.

It’s actually the Adams picks. Which admittedly no player in the league can go over. Or under, for that matter.

RJ covering Morant? lmao

Itā€™s like he has lead in his shoes.

Iā€™d like see Deuce try just for information purposes.

Raven: Itā€™s actually the Adams picks. Which admittedly no player in the league can go over. Or under, for that matter.

Oh, that too. He’s like a brick wall. LOL

what’s up with julius out already? i like it šŸ™‚

i believe the appropriate phrase for evian out on the basketball court at times is: useless as tit’s on a wild boar…

RJ improvement seems to coincide with his learning how to score with his right hand.

Kind of an exciting development.

cybersoze:
Deuce is a SG !?

Yup. His role is to go stand in the corner and never touch the ball on offense.

At least he’s getting minutes.

Tough second unit the Griz have.

Clydeā€™s outfit was on point tonightā€¦.

I now grab my remote and hit the mute button every time I see Aaron Paulā€™s face on TV

Owen: Clydeā€™s outfit was on point tonightā€¦.

I’m on the away broadcast. šŸ™ Well, at least i don’t have to put up with Aaron Paul and the world’s greatest sportsbook.

In the 1st quarter, the guys on the away broadcast were saying the Knicks live on the line and are one of the best FT shooting teams in the league. Is that right? :O

Just give Mitch whatever contract he wants. How many centers spend their time diving on the floor for loose balls.

i got the grizz feed tonight from nbatv – they’re pushing some other gambling site(s)/options on their broadcast…

i am a man of many vices, but, yeah the trend towards an increasing number of enticing advertisements regarding legalized gambling has been more than a little disconcerting to watch…

remember the good ‘ol days when three card monty was a thing on dang near ever city block…

Motch got a little of his own medicine there. Surprised Anderson could do that.

The Mike parlay ad is kind of funny

The Mike parlay ad is kind of funny

interesting thought, i never considered how gambling is treated in other countries…

Randle is the guy at the gym in pick up games that you’re afraid is gonna slug you if you call a foul on him…

Mitch changed three shots there. Good half for him.

RJ showing nice touch on his floaters lately. Feel like he has added that more and more to his repertoire.

Somehow weā€™re starting to look like last yearā€™s Knicks. Itā€™s a shame it happened so late in the season

geo: interesting thought, i never considered how gambling is treated in other countriesā€¦

Here we have a lot of sports betting, but the ads are mostly in the internet, not so much on TV. And casinos we have 2 around Lisbon, 2 around Porto, and 4 or 5 five in the rest of the country. Not a high gambling nation, i guess.

DRed:
not the best half but weā€™re hanging around

Yeah but the Grizz just keep throwing out competent players, itā€™s not like you can take advantage when the starters are out

adults should have access to do and indulge as they please…for whatever reason, i think alcohol and gambling are just two things that personally scare me for reasons (dad was an alcoholic and i’ve had money and then at a point was busted and in heavy debt), which is why i think about them often and it slips in to my posting…

talk about pre-conceived notions: i think of portugal as a fairly well cultured and educated region…i’m sure they are some fairly rural and pastural areas – but, i think of portugal in terms of having the best parts of california stuck in it šŸ™‚

Mitch with 4 assists in the first half. Did that double his total for the season?

Iā€™d like to see Deuce without Quick and defending Morant. Heā€™s not going to do anything on offense as the 4th option standing in the corner without ever touching the ball. Weā€™ve seen that role before. Plus I want see if he can actually annoy Morant on D.

Fournier is a net negative…burned on defense all the time…and one dimensional on offense

Iā€™ve decided the most Knicksy outcome of this season possible is we luck into the high lottery and take the kid from Kentucky who hasnā€™t played at all because he was great in workouts

I like it, but I’m going to stick with we win the lottery and trade everything that isn’t nailed to the floor for Anthony Davis, who continues to play less than 40 games a season.

pepper: Fournier is a net negativeā€¦burned on defense all the timeā€¦and one dimensional on offense

Noble must be lonely on Fournier island. LOL

RJ isnā€™t shooting quite as bad as it looks tonight. He had two shots that went in called off (one a 3) because of teammate mistakes.

Itā€™s kind of infuriating that Randle waited until March to start playing again

If the Knicks won just 2-3 or so of the absolutely ridiculous blown losses they had this season it wouldnā€™t feel nearly as bad as it does. If God somehow finally smiles on us and gives us a PG along with some development we can turn this around quickly. This is a very good Memphis team and we are hanging with them on the road. We may ultimately blow it down the stretch without a PG when Memphis tightens up the D, but it was still a good performance. This off season is 100% about finally getting a starting PG.

This has heartbreaking loss written all over it, but I have no problem with the effort tonight.

Deuce played really solid defense, that was just impressive offense by Ja

ā€œwho was it that wanted deuce on morantā€¦be careful what you ask forā€¦ā€

I wasnā€™t expecting him to be very successful. I was just hoping to see what he could do.

I think what we are going to find is that heā€™s good at staying in front of guys but he doesnā€™t have the size or length to stop people, switch etc..

Regular season basketball is a lot like a one mile turf horse race. Everyone goes out to get position but the race doesnā€™t start for real until the 4th quarter. Then everyone starts doing their best.

Julius ā€œfind a way to loseā€ Randle.

This guy is incredible. Heā€™s quite creative in finding ways to lose.

This has heartbreaking loss written all over it

the grizz are really good as a team, they have a top 5 player running their team, they have a deep bench and a coach with a perfect beard…

this is an expected loss…to be honest, we could lose them all from now until the end and it wouldn’t bother me – i just want us to be this physical (times 10) against the hawks on march 22nd…i don’t even care if we win, i just want everyone on the roster to use every single foul available to them…

RJ gets too many shots blocked. When you are going inside, thatā€™s going to happen, especially against these guys. But some of it is decision making. He doesnā€™t have that extreme athleticism or length. Heā€™s got to be crafty.

I actually think we could have used Fournier’s offense down the stretch.

We see the same thing all the time. Good teams step up their defensive intensity in the 4th quarter. The Knicks donā€™t have the kind of floor general PG you need to execute under that kind of pressure. The offense devolves into a lot of helter skelter garbage and bad ISO. It would be a lot uglier in the playoffs when teams play at that level for the entire game.

Lack of good PG play holds us back from closing out these games. Game ended up with Julius hero ball and Alec Burks pull ups wont beat good teams with that.

disappointed in iq…he got small in crunch time…and rj still makes alot of bad decisions…

another moral victory…a thibs specialty…

4 point loss to the second best team in the league at the end of a long road trip-I don’t have any real complaints.

Busy morning, first watching a meaningful Rokas’ game (more on that in the next thread) and then admiring our loss in another game in which we did lead by a lot.
The guys gave us a scare but at the end they did their job and with ATL and CHA wins our reverse-magic number is shrinking.

One thing I forgot to mention before, I fear keeping Psycho doubles the chances that we keep Randle too. But maybe this is another one of the many positive things (I’d like to read a detailed list) he brings to the team…
