2021-22 Game Thread: Knicks @ Milwaukee Bucks

The Knicks head to Milwaukee to take on the defending World Champion Milwaukee Bucks. The defending champs have been dealing with some notable injuries and also lost a good deal of their depth from last season. It really is just the Giannis and Friend show right now in Milwaukee, although Jrue Holliday is tentatively set to return to action tonight after missing five games with an ankle injury.

Still, the Knicks should hopefully be able to take advantage of the Bucks’ lack of depth tonight with the Knicks’ second unit.

IS 56 WINS STILL IN PLAY? The two-game losing streak has made 56 wins look less likely, but a win tonight would put it right back into play!

The Bucks have a bunch of guys who have brothers in the NBA who are not as good as them, leading to our poll for the today (as part of our all-poll content)…

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

Let’s go, Knicks!

Hey Z-Man, congrats on your daughter’s qualification to the final game. 🙂 To come from a 2 set deficit against the number 1 seed and win the game was amazing. I watched the beginning, and almost thought i was bringing bad luck, then i went to have dinner and got back in the final set with the score 10-8 for St Lawrence, but this time around they were rolling. 😉 Watching parts of the game made me remember how many times volleyball referees blow the whistle in a game, way too many. LOL

BidiBong!!! (This means I’ll likely be around for shitty takes all game. You’re welcome.)

And also this one…

Silky Johnson, Fleet Admiral of the Tank Armada:
Look for me at the Knicks game tonight in the 10th on the corner to the left of the left bench (from the cameras point of view). Will be wearing a red hat and my Knicks jacket.
Bing bong!!

Let’s see if i can spot you this time around. 😉 Bing boooong! 🙂

Thanks for the news. This interesting to me for two reasons. One, Thibs didn’t mention McBride. Does this mean he might spend time in G-league or does it mean that as our highest draft pick, he is exempt? Two, it suggests he thinks they might be needed in the rotation at some point. They must be doing well in practice.

I assume you meant Grimes, not McBride, Knicks Fan? And, yeah, I think it’s a combination of two things: 1)They think their big league developmental program is either better than the G-League one or just better-suited for these three guys (two of whom are pretty pro-ready), even if the kids won’t be getting game action for a while; and/or 2)They think there is a chance they may need to use Grimes or Deuce in real game action soon enough that they’d rather not yo-o them between New York and Connecticut.

You’re right, I meant Grimes. It will be interesting to see if we see them in action

He was a massive dickhead at Duke, but Grayson Allen has been such a good pick up for the bucks

It looks like Milwaukee decided to front Mitch with Giannis to break up lobs and it worked. It’s a tribute to Giannis he can do that. So the last time the Knicks came down court and gave it to Mitch they passed it to Mitch instead of lobbing it. He was defended so he made a nice pass to Fournier who unfortunately missed the shot.

Lol we look bad. Also I’m to the left of the Knicks bench

Man, Milwaukee is good at both ends of the court. To make matters worse, the invisible sixth man doesn’t play for us anymore. He’s playing for our opponents.

Why in the world do we sag so hard off corner three shooters

I haven’t scrolled enough to know if this is an unpopular opinion or not but I actually don’t think we’re playing badly offensively. Good shooters are missing good shots. Keep shooting them.

The defense on the other hand makes no sense to me. Seems like these guys truly believe in the ISM.

The lights went out after the first quarter with Toronto and never came back.
This team has serious problems.

Apparently adding a few new guys means we can’t even try to play defense anymore.

That’s what annoys me. It’s not only the new guys, Julius and Mitch are way worse than last year. It’s only RJ giving a damn on defense.

Oh, and as the number 1 Mitch fan, i don’t approve Brolic Mitch at all. This move might cost him a lot of money.

Right now I’m thinking that my prediction of 37 wins may have been a tad optimistic.

It’s hard to play 5 on 8 out there.

Quickley got clobbered. RJ got clobbered a few times too. That and1 on Noel should have been a charge on Giannis.

Quick hit fouled but you don’t go at the hoop like that when you’ve been a zero all season. 1 handed behind your shoulder and head as you approach.

Agreed 100% can’t come with that bull shit … quick two hand jam and get the F back on defense …

Just checking in. Young Toppin is doing some good things. Keep it up!

EDIT: Or go sit on the bench for Randle.

I don’t think toppin should come out in games like this… he can actually finish and is tireless … Randle can’t even jog up the court with pace after checking back in …

If we do somehow come back and win this game we can thank Derrick Rose. He single handedly kept it from being a blowout

I’d like to say our defense improved but really the law of averages caught up with the Bucks and they started missing shots

With very few exceptions (i.e. one, the shot clock winding down), there is no scenario in which Randle should ever be taking step back long twos on this team. I hope he’s just getting used to the roster since that wasn’t necessarily the case last year.

Haha. Will do my best.

Checking the box. Wow. Kemba and E4 not earning any dollars tonight, so far.

thenoblefacehumper: there is no scenario in which Randle should ever be taking step back long twos on this team

What’s worst is that i think he goes to those tough shots on purpose. Does that make sense?

We can’t afford to miss all those open looks…

Also, at what point does Kemba become a malcontent if he doesn’t get minutes

What’s worst is that i think he goes to those tough shots on purpose. Does that make sense?

Yeah you kinda get the impression he’s “getting his,” especially when he’s not having a good game. I have some faith this will be coached out of him but it’s a lot more jarring than it was last year since our shot chart is otherwise pretty good.

Down to 7 at the half. If we tighten up the D 2nd half we could have a pretty good shot!

I mean how can we be expected to compete against the best big 3 in the league, Giannis, a Ted Cruz look-alike and whoever the fuck is Jordan Nwora?

Every game we get torched by rotation guys or straight up scrubs, the defensive scheme can’t possibly be correct if that keeps happening.

Perhaps in the second half stop thinking “surely THIS is the wide open 3 Pat Connaughton will miss”

We leave the most high percentage 3 point shot available all the time.

“Fournier skies in!” Kenny Albert. Hahahaha.

Down to seven. Manageable.

Sometimes DRose going to the hoop looks like he’s at Rucker playing against guys off the street. We’ve been so lucky with him.

Can’t believe the rest of the league poached the Knicks ISM with a poison pill contract

But also we look back in it. Fun game to watch after the awful first quarter

Thibs should just let Noel and Mitch handle the rim protection and stick to shooters the scheme is killing us

Kemba benched all the second quarter…

And the amount of rope that Quickley has, compared to other players (I.e. Toppin) is annoying.
He’s playing like shit since game 1 and still takes away minutes from the rookies.

thenoblefacehumper:

He missed 5 3 pointers all wide open so the strategy is actually working (-:

d-mar: Steph Nwora is killing us

I wanted Nwora in the 2020 draft, with the pick we decided to trade to the Clips for a future pick. I have to say i don’t follow his career, but against us he always plays great.

The shot contesting has been awful every game, against the Pacers every single time Brogdon ran a pick and roll someone shot a wide open 3, and it’s happening exactly like that again tonight. Whoever is the guard dies on the screen, Robinson and Noel don’t have the speed to follow, someone helps, open 3. It really does feel like the whole open 3 percentage thing is catching up against us.

“If you haven’t joined the world’s largest Sportsbook…”

It’s probably because you can’t take one more fucking Aaron Paul commercial

Julius is on pace to have a 32 pts, 16 trb and 8 ast, and still i’m not liking his play. What is wrong with me?

Because we want it in the flow of the game.

LOL, i’m with you, brother. 😉

Why aren’t we talking more about Evan Fournier’s first ever rebound toward the end of the half?

And how many turn-overs?

That’s why we’re not happy with Randle despite his numbers,
two consecutive stupid turnovers when we’re desperately trying to tie the game…

KJG:
Bucks are essentially asleep right now and we cant get even

We only need to be up by 1 in the end. 😀

Mitch could use noels quickness to … Noel flashes and recovers pretty damn well I’d say

As great as this comeback has been, it’s equally frustrating. Just come out from the opening tip with this intensity!!!!

100% Agree.

Seriously!

MKE currently playing their no offense lineup of Giannis Hood and 3 guys from the local Y

Imagine what the lead would be if we actually showed up in the first quarter.

Could we have just signed bullock instead of Fournier … ?

I find myself liking the lineups without Kemba and Fournier … maybe I’d like them more if they didn’t play together

It just looks like “hustle” out there to me that’s the change. That was our trademark last year.

mase:
Rose is the reason we are winning right now no doubt

Well apparently he has “feline quickness AND canine attitude,” so, you know …

The Mitch love is understandable, but we really missed Noel. We are allowed to love 2 players. 🙂

How do you play a team like the Bucks so tough on the road and lose to scrubs at home? smh

I was one of many who thought “what’s the point” when we acquired Rose.

And now he’s one of our best players. SMH.

Randle sure does a lot of things, more good than bad, at the end it’s just a question of balance…

Nice strategy, playing possum in the first we lulled the Bucks to sleep…

Rose’s hustle from a score on one end to near block on the other (that caused a miss) was really impressive

Randle has raised his game to a level where we’re now able to nitpick his game. He’s taken it to the league MVP tonight. Clyde said it right earlier. He’s somewhere between star and super-star now. If he heeds the nitpicking his next step is to aspire to be the MVP.

I can’t believe they managed to not only come back after the first quarter, but blow the defending champs out at home.

The whole point about having great depth is that certain nights different guys have it going and you just ride the hot hand. Fournier has had a few games where he’s been great, when he’s not then play Burks down the stretch. Ditto Kemba and Rose. Sorry loved Bullock too but I’d much rather have Fournier.

I love Mitch, but we do have the right guy signed long-term right now.

Considering the circumstances coming into the game off back to back losses and then play a horrendous 1st quarter this is a great win.

I agree.

Everyone has good and bad days mentally and/or physically and sometimes it’s simply a matchup.

Agreed. Shows some grit.

Great game from Randle – physical, rebounding, got to the line plenty.

Finally got a smile out of Thibs!

Glad to see IQ contribute some meaningful minutes. That’s gotta help his head.

Noel totally changed our defense,
Rose did the same on offense, not only scoring but pushing the pace…

I like this inverted world version were we suck in the first and kill it for 3 quarters instead of killing it for 3 quarters and almost losing in the 4th.

Randle finally having a game like last season, but this was all Rose and Noel, they were simply fantastic, saved our asses out there.

After the first quarter I never thought that was a possible outcome.

After a lifeless first quarter, great rest of the way. Bucks without Middleton and Lopez helped, but a solid win on the road nonetheless.

Noel was great and needs to be the guy when we face fast, mobile lineups. His defense is so much more disruptive.

IQ played really nice on both ends we just need him to get his shot going and the second unit becomes even more deadly

Also quietly solid game from RJ. So far this year, he’s been our most consistent player. Such a good sign.

They obviously had the Sativa edibles before this one. Great energy on defense.
