2016-17 Game Thread: Knicks @ Mavericks

The Knicks head to Dallas tonight to take on a pretty awful Mavericks team.

The Knicks are very close to a winning streak, which is not where they need to be, but eh, at least maybe we’ll see another good game from Willy!

Let’s go, Knicks?

  1. Oh sure, don’t get me wrong, I’m more hopeful than I have been in quite a while, which is to say that I’m not really hopeful at all. So yes, that scenario is very likely. But hey, there’s at least sort of kind of a chance (but not really)!

yep, that about sums it all up…

  2. “tanking”…shoot, phil’s trying to upgrade and get rid of melo and bring in love (not sure how much an “upgrade” for our team that would actually be)…yeah, phil and his 12 mil are all in…

is it me – or, does rose look like not such a great teammate out on the floor?

sacramento up by 6 at the half against the cavs…man, i’d love to see the cavs crash and burn…actually – i’d enjoy watching any other team but the knicks crash and burn…

  3. Yeah, the only hope is that they lose enough games that even Phil has to give up. Which they won’t, because they’re just good enough to be not good but not bad. I mean, hell, Derrick Rose is about to lead them to a winning streak!

  4. Melo having good games and us still losing seems like the ideal outcome of games right now, for a few different reasons

  5. Something is definitely up with Kris. I don’t know what but he’s looking a shell of himself against a team he annihilated.

  6. i got one for ya then kjg…who do you think are the leaders in the locker room…

both from a vocal standpoint and also whom other players might look up too…

who are some of the stronger personalities on the team…

whenever I see some of these halftime shows – i’m amazed at some of the “unique” shit people can do :-)

that’s gotta take hours and hours/years to learn…

  7. I think the team lacks a leader in the locker room. I get the feeling the are tandems or small groups of guys that get along and shoot the shit… but no real leader… or it’s just tough to tell. Leaders don’t need to be demonstrative , so maybe there is more than meets the eye or ear…

Personalities… obviously oquinn… I think Willy probably makes people laugh. Jennings I think gets people’s attention…. media seems to get a lot of quotes from Rose and he’s usually saying the right thing so he gives me mixed feelings. On the court he looks silent and only shows emotion for himself. So I dunno

  8. I’m watching sixers right now. Bucks climbing back but sixers getting hosed on a lot of calls… I like Richaun Holmes so far from what I’ve seen.

  9. This is the epitome of the Knicks this season – they’re going to just barely beat a shitty, shitty team.

  10. i didn’t know o’quinn had that strong a personality…it’s obvious jennings is outgoing, but, not in a take charge type way…my thought would be it would be noah…

I need to play a little closer attention to their huddles/timeouts…

from what I’ve seen, melo & rose are chilled dudes, but, not really charismatic or dynamic enough to be inspiring – or, able to hold others accountable…

coincidently they both suck at defense…

  11. Mavs have no NBA point guards left for this half. Hopefully we can pull away.

  12. Oquinn is goofy in the extra curriculars… I think that probably translates into some kind of favorable locker room presence… Noah comes with a rep but I think his game or lack there of has neutered him a bit…

  13. rose has zero interest in staying with his man, cheap foul on dirk before that…

horny is a little slow with the whistle and taking guys out for no defense…

  14. Knicks have 2 or 3 teams within their squad and none of them play well together when they get mixed

  15. kp has been very bad since he returned from the achilles… and i’m pretty sure he’s still hurt….

  16. I feel like the venture cap fund manager who was all like ‘my portfolio sucks right now but at least I have theranos’

  17. We’re going to lose to a team without Barea, Williams and Matthews.

    Don’t jinx it!

  18. Perfect storm – Cavs lose to Kings at home, lost 3 in a row, Melo on a tear. Time for LeBron to play GM and go after Carmelo. Make it happen!

  19. This is some of the worst basketball I’ve ever seen. Hornacek should bench this entire lineup.

It’s so depressing. A terrible team, but just good enough to barely beat other, more terrible teams. Ugh.

  20. KP is not KD. He has to receive the ball closer to the hoop. Or shoot the open three.

  21. Yeah something looks physically wrong with KP. Or he’s just really rusty. He’s barely played.

  22. 10-3 in last 13

yeah but they’re 10-4 in their last 14 so I wouldn’t get too excited

  23. I am watching with no sound, but I can say with authority that Clyde in Clydetoon is dressed way too conservatively.

  24. Nerlens Noel is so good and it’s absolutely insane that the Sixers are even entertaining the idea of trading him

  25. @91. He sure gives it his all… his offense is improving. His D is fine…pretty agile and his hands are very active…

  26. Trade Melo.
    Trade Noah.
    Trade Lee.
    Trade Jennings.
    Trade Sasha.

    All is lost.

    Rose too.

  27. How much more shit can Melo eat is the real question this season

  28. How much more shit can Melo eat is the real question this season

He will eat plenty and he will like it.

  29. that no-trade clause has gotta sting if you’re too proud to waive it

  30. @105

Word on that. And he needs to continue to be pissed off and play with fire. He wanted that putback and fought for it. He needs that kind of fire.

  31. I really prefer to win, even though it’s dumb, so games like this are tough. Dallas? Really? Sigh.

But yes, the tank is powerful.

  32. KP looks so weak going up to the basket because he rushes his shot. Its like he forgets he’s 7’3.

  33. Not only did we lose to the Mavericks, we lost to the mavericks with three of their players injured including their starting PG

  34. Horny should deny the team breakfast tomorrow. Except maybe Willy who looks hungry.

  35. Well, the good thing is that KP had 8 rebounds in 23 minutes of play.

The bad thing is that he had 5 fouls and shot 4-11.

  36. sixers might actually get to swap picks with the kings this year lol

always been a huge nerlens noel fan, dude is legit on D

  37. Look, this is painful but necessary. Outside of KP’s sheer sucking I am very emboldened by this loss. It moves us forward and upward.

  38. ever since kp has gotten back… he has not been himself… his reb rate has cratered… fouls are up… 3pr up… ftr rate non-existant….

something is up with him… i’m pretty sure kp is trying to play through some stiffness with his achilles which tends to happen with those things .. and apparently he also has some elbow swelling…

he’s just too important to have him go down long term…. and right now he’s playing like bargnani so he’s not exactly contributing much…

  39. LOL Sactown beat Cleveland and Miami won. Good, good.

Now we need to see who wins out of the LA/POR game. Either win is good for us.

  40. Wow, Hahn and Wally had a hell of an argument about the defense blaming Derrick Rose and KP.

  41. If there was ever a case to made for us to tank to get Ntilikina Derek Rose’s defense this game made it for us. He simply cannot defend laterally and we’re switching off all of the time because of it. It has forced KP to cover guards out in space on the perimeter and to get into foul trouble with all of the slashers to the basket.

  42. They’re juuuuust too good to lose on a sustained basis, but hell, I’ll take the loss instead of the win.

  43. They’re juuuuust too good to lose on a sustained basis, but hell, I’ll take the loss instead of the win.

After this loss its clear the Knicks are bad enough to lose to any team.

  44. BC I think a lot of the “tanking” teams feel that way. Brooklyn is the only true awful team this year. We’re still just 3 games ahead of Dallas for the (most likely) fifth pick, 3.5 ahead of Miami for the (most likely) fourth. If we wise up and trade some damn guys we can really do this.

  45. Who is bad?

    Noah is bad.
    Kuz is bad.
    Rose is bad.
    Jennings is bad.
    KP is bad.
    Melo is half bad.

Oh, if they do trades, I would totally believe that they will do it. I just don’t think they’ll actually do trades, though (besides lateral moves).

  47. If Cleveland wants help at guard, Rose is probably of more interest to them than Melo… But I don’t know why we are interested in Love if we have Porzingis. It would be better to get young guys like Felder and picks

  48. But I don’t know why we are interested in Love if we have Porzingis. It would be better to get young guys like Felder and picks

I’d imagine that there are two reasons they’d want Love.

    1. The logical one – they could then trade him for something and they would be able to deal with any team

    2. The worrisome one – that Phil wants to make a lateral move because he still thinks that this team can contend.

  49. I don’t think there’s any way to make it work salary-wise. You could do Jennings for one of their trade exceptions and a 2nd rounder. Or get a third team involved to do a Jennings and Melo for Love!

  50. I have a way to make a Rose trade to Cleveland work, but it won’t be pretty. Here it is. I warn you that this could be ugly so enter this trade simulation at your own peril.

  51. I don’t think that the cavs want Rose. LBJ specified a facilitator. Maybe Jennings would be more to their liking.

  52. Jennings to Cavs would make a lot of sense too. Could we get a future first though?

Trust the Process….the Sixers are 1.5 games behind the Knicks in the standings. And Ben Simmons has yet to play.

Sad thing is that he isn’t wrong.

  54. it’s the end of the world as we know it…and, i feel fine…

remember that series against tampa bay, I think, finally made the yankees start pulling the trigger…

let’s hope phil does some decent dealing…

  55. Jennings to Cavs would make a lot of sense too. Could we get a future first though?

Seems hard to believe due to how many firsts they’ve already traded.

  56. Seems hard to believe due to how many firsts they’ve already traded.

I am not talking about anything recent. Something 4 years down the line in 2020/2021 when that team falls apart would be ideal.

  57. Right, but that’s the very reason why I figure they won’t want to deal any more picks, ya know?

  58. Jennings and Shumpert wouldn’t get along on the same team. GM Lebron is gonna take that into account.

  59. We have the Hornets next in a big game. They’re 3 wins ahead of us. Tough game but its a must lose.

  60. We’ve got Charlotte, Atlanta, and Washington coming up. I will accept nothing less than 0-3.

  61. We’ve got Charlotte, Atlanta, and Washington coming up. I will accept nothing less than 0-3.

The Wizards have been playing well lately, but seriously, look at how shitty the East are – Charlotte and Atlanta are not good teams. They’re better than the Knicks, of course, but damn, I wish that they were just a little better. As ras just noted, Charlotte is only three games ahead of the Knicks!!

  62. This season is sucking right now not because of the tank or the wins or the losses or whatever. It sucks because KP is developing worse than we thought, even though I think we all agree it’s at least 50% injury related. So sit him already!

  63. Anyway, Rose is the gift that keeps on giving. If by any chance we blow this MF up, you gotta give the man the credit he’s due.

  64. Charlotte is a dangerous team for the Knicks because I can see Kemba Walker scoring 30+ points and 10+ assists on us easy. Its not like Derrick Rose or Brandon Jennings will guard him or Batum.

  65. Oh, Kemba will have his way, of course, but the issue is the other guys aren’t all that good on offense.
