2016-17 Game Thread: Knicks @ Magic

This is a big game for the tank, as the Magic have been playing a little better since their roster became more balanced following the Serge Ibaka trade and the Knicks will be without Billy tonight. So this is a lose-able game for the Knicks, but it is a borderline lose-able game, so it can be a tricky one.

Let’s go? Knicks!

  1. there’s like a 13 year-old kid at the arena with a sign
    “Hezonja > Melo
    Carmelo Anthony is garbage”

  2. When the alternative is two ball hogs ISOing 42 min/game, you pick the damn shape.

  3. the absolute best news: Clyde is finally back, so the game is going to be at the very least watchable.

Savage. Kids these days are much crueler than I remember ha ha

  5. Okay guys, here’s a question:

Would you rather have all NBA games immediately begin to broadcast in 4K @ 120 fps, or trade Melo for two mid-teens 1st rounders tomorrow?

Wally is certainly not the worst colour commentator (see Cleveland broadcast team), but good to hear Clyde is back. Wally seems to much of an MSG yes man.

I don’t own a 4K screen of any kind, so the picks for me.

  8. @9

4K is the better medium and long term payoff I’m sure

  9. Every Magic Knicks game is absolutely awful

  10. I don’t have a 4k TV and they cost like 10 billion here in Brazil anyway, so give me one first rounder and I’m already fine.

Kids learn so much faster in the age of the internet. When I was 13 I would have thought Melo was a superstar. rotflmao I was dumb.

  12. It’s so annoying the way we win our games. It’s not like we play team ball or play defense, we do the same old shit. It seems that the only difference between our wins and losses is how hot Melo is. His looks don’t change, the plays don’t change. No matter what, he is taking contested long twos or threes and its frustrating winning that way especially.

  13. Carmelo is a 53% TS shooter. He’ll go 1-6 in the next quarter and we’ll be right back to where we were.

  14. Carmelo is a 53% TS shooter. He’ll go 1-6 in the next quarter and we’ll be right back to where we were.

Well yeah, that’s why we have so many losses. I’m just saying that he does have the ability to get hot and make a bunch of bad shots, something others on the team can’t do.

  15. I think I’d take the pics over the 4k broadcast though that would be sweet. As a side I love name brands but not for TVs. I dunno why. I have a budget LG 4k and just got one of the cheap Chinese brands. Hisense 65inch 4k HDR for $750. So far. It’s phenomenal. Go OLED or get a cheapie

  16. man, just splurged on new tv’s a couple of years ago – looks like i’m stuck in television viewing mediocrity for the next few years…hmmmm, maybe by the time the knicks have a winning season i’ll be ready to re-up on some new tv’s…

glad to hear clyde is back…looking forward to catching the game when i get home…now that i’ve finally got my mind and heart right: hopefully melo doesn’t stay too hot…

  17. other than kp and maybe baker/holiday – what else is there to really watch for in this game?

  18. This is a miserable game to watch, yet again, between these two teams.

I don’t think anything can beat that one Pacers game from a couple of months ago for purely ugly basketball.

  19. I can’t watch the game. Does it look like they are playing more triangle?

  20. Fournier dribbles 180 degrees around KP for a layup. May be the 100th time this season. Footwork and positioning.

  21. @28

ohh, I remember, that was a rough one… I don’t know, I just hate watching Orlando play, they’re a shit team with a million inefficient shooters and zero players I find exciting to watch.

at least the Pacers have Myles Turner.

  22. Does it look like they are playing more triangle?

Not really. I’ve actually noticed more pick and rolls for KP which have ended in free throws.

  23. yeah, Rose is trying to run a few pick and rolls with KP which haven’t looked terrible.

  24. Hornacek has said that they are still running the Triangle less than half the time.

  25. Milwaukee is getting wrecked by the Nuggets, we might have even more competition for the tank…

  26. I don’t see how the Bucks don’t just cut their losses and tank. Come back next year with a healthy Middleton and Parker plus a lottery pick. They should be stacked.

  27. jiminy…maybe i should go back to wishing for wins – that seemed to cause more than a fair share of losses…

  28. I’LL NEVER CHEER FOR A KNICKS LOSS

-every idiot mouth-breather on r/nyknicks who’d fail the marshmallow test

Aside: Anyone listen to the latest Lowe Post with DeRozan? One of the most boring half-hours of my life. If inaudibly mumbling banal platitudes into a microphone could earn a player an MVP, DeRozan would be my first bet.

  29. Yeah there’s no way we’re picking above 6th in this draft, with 7-9 being more likely

That means Isaac is best case with a likely outcome of De’Aaron or Ntilikina. I’m alright with that if we can nab a pick or two in an offseason trade

  30. At this point I’d be pretty happy with either Fox or Ntilikina, but I’m still afraid the Knicks are fucking this up so much they’ll pick 12th.

  31. I’m alright with that if we can nab a pick or two in an offseason trade

So you won’t be alright with that then. ;)

  32. We’re a game and a half behind Charlotte for the 12th pick. Does anyone think something other than the worst case scenario will happen? We probably aren’t getting one of Fultz, Ball, Isaac, Jackson, Smith, Monk, Tatum, Fox, or Ntilikina.

  33. At this point I’d be pretty happy with either Fox or Ntilikina, but I’m still afraid the Knicks are fucking this up so much they’ll pick 12th.

Yeah from what I have read about the two so far, I don’t think I would be losing sleep if we drafted either of them. That said, still obviously not the preferred option over cracking the top 5.

  34. Carmelo with 39 minutes… I think if we just keep playing like 40 MPG we have a real chance at getting homecourt through the playoffs, so while under just about any other circumstances I’d be against playing a guy that many minutes, I think it’s worth it especially since the Cavs are nipping out our heels… I mean we legitimately could pass the Warriors in the standings, and their homecourt is brutal, which is something we have to think about with them being our likely finals matchup.

So yeah, he’s 32, it’s kinda crazy to be playing him that many minutes, but lebron is playing a lot of minutes, and his team isn’t even as good. They have more of a reason to think about the future considering that they probably won’t win more than a game or two against us in the ECF, assuming they even get there. We’re not the Spurs where we have a ton of talent in the pipeline. Our window is now.

  35. This team is just infuriating.

Very little triangle to my eye tonight.

If we were trying to win, I’d say this is the starting lineup we should’ve had all year. KP Melo Lance Lee Rose makes a lot of sense.

  36. I see where you did there Latke….

Hoping for us to lose to this Magic squad is asking a lot.

  37. If we were trying to win, I’d say this is the starting lineup we should’ve had all year. KP Melo Lance Lee Rose makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, imagine playing your 7’3″ guy as a center rather than having him play as a small forward

  38. I’ll keep saying this, but the Knicks have a deep roster of mediocre players surrounding a few good centers. We cannot tank in the way many of you want without telling the players to lose on purpose, and players will never do that over a large chunk of the season because it will cost them money.

  39. well, the tank was already doomed anyway when our idiot GM refused to trade anyone at the deadline, so who gives a crap anymore.

nobody is asking players to throw games, it was on Phil and he botched it, again.

I’m already watching Miles Bridges and Ivan Rabb highlights.

  40. At least Oakley will probably be courtside for our 2 first round games in Cleveland
