It was a relief to read BASKETBALL posts during and after the game.

I am not putting much stock into anything concerning that game. Hornaceck obviously just threw them on the court and told them to play. This is a team that has no chemistry yet. There was no game plan. It was street ball. Harden won.

The lack of chemistry is why the Rose trial comes at such a bad time. Without the floor general out there learning about his teammates, it sets the team back a great deal.

Wait don’t you listen to experts like Jalen Rose, Chauncey Billups, Frank Isola and Brendan Haywood? They’ve all pronounced the Knicks DOA.

As we all know, preseason performance has a direct correlation to regular season performance, so hard to argue with those guys after 1 preseason game.

If Derrick Rose is our floor general, we are duly fucked.

No. I don’t. And I didn’t need Chauncey to open his mouth to know what he was going to say. He’s still bitter about how the Knicks handled him. I can’t say that I’m very excited yet but I won’t be throwing in a towel for a long time.

man…really good to hear about porzingis’ getting paid…i haven’t had a chance to see him in many “off the court” settings for interviews – but, he seems like a really good young man, with a pretty solid head on his shoulders…

also nice to see how anthony has matured and transformed himself in to a respected public figure…i really like the fact our locker room has improved greatly over the last couple of years (so it seems from the outside)…

so what kind of coaching mind game/strategy is it to not have a specific game plan to communicate to your team about an opponent – preseason, regular season or a simple scrimmage?…i didn’t quite get that one…

oh yeah – mister “big” shot…big as in the distance he used to shoot from the net…it seemed like every time he got the ball from out of bounds he would dribble past half court about 5 feet and jack up a three, i don’t remember him passing the ball much at all with us…not sure how we got rid of him (what it cost us) – but, was glad when he left…

Without looking it up, wanna guess what his TS% was during season he was traded to the Knicks?

    8. Nick C.

I bet it was .570 or more. My recollection is he was a master of getting fouled on horribly missed jump shots during his time with the team. If the threads exists he was dubbed “Chauncey Pullups” by our assembled masses.

    9. Geo-n-SoCal

i’m not gonna lie…i’m not really even sure what a TS% is…been lurking here for years, love to quietly commiserate with others whom seemingly also feel my pain when it comes to rooting for the knicks (not too downplay the seriousness of the subject – but, being a knicks fan feels a bit like being in an abusive relationship…thankfully i’ve never had any experience in that area, but, some days it really sucks – isaiah and dolan made it hurt)…

sooooooo, when i read a lot of the numbers/statistics which get bandied about – my eyes start glazing over and my mind slips somewhere’s else…it usually goes back to the 90’s, i’ll smile, then suddenly remember game 6 of the houston final and the moments lost…i gotta be honest, i hate math…

from what i remember of billups – he seemed to be more of a shooting guard than point guard for us…i don’t really remember him passing much or being that good…

I think the idea was that early in preseason it makes more sense to work on your “base” stuff than to put in any specific modifications based on the opponent. As a generic example, lets say your base defense on a standard PnR in the middle of the floor is for the C to drop down to foul line and concede jumpers to the PG. If it’s a regular season game against Golden State you’re obviously not going to use that coverage against Steph Curry. If it’s the first preseason game though you might be more concerned with rehearsing that base look at game speed than with the extreme likelihood that Steph is going to torch you if you do so.

That’s how Horny’s comments came across to me, and honestly you could see why he did it because we frequently looked fairly lost on both ends even without trying to execute any gameplan specific wrinkles.

    11. d-mar

Look, we may suck this year, and Billups et al may end up looking smart, but to make these judgments after one preseason game is asinine. I’ve also heard some of the same guys pronouncing that Buddy Hield is going to be a star because he had 18 points against Indiana.

      IT”S PRESEASON!!!

    12. thenamestsam

I can’t say I was actually listening closely while Billups was talking, but wasn’t he just offering his prediction for the season the exact same way every single other pundit/Knickerblogger commentator does? It didn’t seem to me that he was saying: “The Knicks lost the first preseason game therefore they’re going to be bad” as much as “The Knicks are going to be bad, this game illustrated why”, which is kind of the most logical thing to talk about if you’re on the desk during an NBA preseason game. Saying “It’s preseason therefore this game was meaningless and I can’t say anything beyond that” wouldn’t exactly make for a compelling segment…

There’s an alternate universe where Donnie doesn’t pick up Billups team option and we still get Chandler in the off season but save the amnesty, use it on Amare the next season and have 20 million in cap space going into the 54 win season. We still grab Kidd but also give Lin a good contract first so he doesn’t get the poison pill from Houston. We snag Felton and KT as well and Prigs and Brewer. Go in with a backcourt of Kidd, Lin, Prigs, JR, Brewer and Shump and can play small ball all day long. We use the remaining cap space to get some 4s and 5s besides Camby. So that when Sheed goes down we don’t wait until after the all star break to snag Kmart. Melo plays 4 all season but we have real back ups for him and Chandler. We go into the playoffs fully healthy and win the championship.

Derrick Rose finally showed up at 10:43, 40 minutes into Doe testimony and nearly 2 hours after he was scheduled to show. Wearing dark suit

Glad to see he’s treating this seriously.

      It’s the Knicks.

They would had spent every cent of Amare’s contract in Deron Williams or other second tier star.

I’m sure one preseason game means something, but at the same time it’s not very much of something. Certainly not enough to base sweeping conclusions on. If you thought we had a decent chance to make the playoffs on Monday you shouldn’t change your mind.

    17. Brian Cronin

I’m the captain of U.S.S. “The Preseason is Meaningless,” but I can’t help but wonder if the same would be said by all had the Knicks crushed the Rockets in that first game. ;)

    18. Frank

I don’t know whether Rose is innocent or guilty, but I am quite sure his lawyers are a bunch of douchebags – either purposefully so or just incompetent. How can you not have your client show up on time for court?! He quite literally has his reputation and $100MM adidas contract on the line.

And complaining to the judge about the witness crying: “is she going to cry all afternoon”

Unreal. And you would imagine that these are high-priced dudes.

I think the “I told you so” and the “it’s the first game of preseason” crowds would have flip flopped. lol

But, everyone would have agreed that love KP.

    20. Geo-n-SoCal

i guess phil really wanted noah and lee badly (and thought he needed rose to make that happen)…otherwise, why sign up for the poop storm which he had to know was gonna follow rose (and the team) around for at least the first month or so of the season…especially after experiencing the felton and fischer indiscretions…scratching my head over that one (i’ve literally almost gone bald, scratching my head, from all the strange knick moves from the last decade and a half – i guess there is the possibility that even had the knicks been successful over that time my hair still may have abandoned me anyways, oh well)…

    21. ClashFan

      @13
There’s also an alternate universe where I meet Paulina Porizkova circa 1985 or so, and she falls madly for me. And 31 years later, we’re still happy together with like 27 kids or so.

But that’s not the universe we currently live in, damn it.

    22. johnno

DRed — I can’t for the life of me imagine what Rose and his lawyers are thinking. How he/they don’t think that it is critical that he be there for every minute of the trial is beyond me. Then again, I’m stunned that they even let it go to trial. Even if he is completely exonerated, the details of the trial are likely going to make him look really bad in most people’s eyes.

    23. Brian Cronin

Isiah could have settled for, like, a tenth of what they ended up losing in the sexual harassment case. Some people are just dumb.

    24. the don nelson era

@13 nooooo. This is my single least favorite Knicks what-if because it is so persistent despite a factually incorrect basis.

Billups had a $4.5 million buyout for that option year. The buyout would have counted against the cap. After amnestying they had ~$13 million in space. If they bought him out without using the amnesty they would have had ~$8.5 million. Chandler received I think 4 years/$52 million. In other words, without the amnesty they could not have acquired Chandler.

I agree that the amnesty was very badly misused on Billups but there was no scenario where the Knicks kept the amnesty and acquired Chandler that offseason.

Isaiah knows his way around this lawsuit stuff

looks like hornacek not going to have a defensive gameplan until the last few preseason games… kinda like a coach who thinks outside the box….
