The New York Knicks try for a winning record early in the new season as they travel to Auburn Hills to take on Andre Drummond and the Detroit Pistons.
Derrick Rose will likely have a good matchup on defense tonight, with the diminutive Ish Smith likely guarding him, so this could be a game where he could really shine. Or not. I guess we shall see, right?
Let’s go, Knicks!
So what does everyone think about Derrick Rose?
The shot clocks are busted. Hilarious.
The Bulls’ point guard? I thought he was still injured.
It’s so annoying that the Pistons got a free Tobias Harris
Hey, NBA League Pass app is actually working for me tonight on Roku!
Did Jowles bite Noah’s ear?
Hack-a-Drummond
I think the Knicks’ basket is set at 10.5 feet.
This Noah fellow seems to be a good player.
Rose looked slow on that and-one. (not)
Ish Smith vs Derrick Rose? I mean, is there a better way to spend a Tuesday night?
DRose could get 40 tonight.
It’s interesting that Detroit is playing Smith on Rose.
fast break points
they do exist!
Courtney Lee could get 50 tonight
Rose could have 40 by the half.
What is defense
Courtney Lee already has 50 points in the future
Boy do I miss Jerian Grant and Calderon right about now!!!
Rose is cooking but my lord Ish Smith is bad on defense
Rose could get 10 blocks tonight
There’s something wrong with Lance
An NDour sighting!
Ndour with the early burn!
Ndour could have 50 dunks tonight
Ndour is not shy!
What is that thing on Udrih’s head? And Baynes looks like he forgot to take his Halloween costume off.
I know that they’re missing their starting point guard, but the Pistons roster still doesn’t make a ton of sense to me.
Better rotations tonight.
Great block by Holiday
Dumb foul by O’q with the shot clock winding down.
2nd unit is a circus
I never want to see Thomas play again. Seriously. The guy passes up open 3s to drive into the paint and throw up bullshit. Give his minutes to ndour
Lance Thomas is depressing
@32 Horny needs to have one of Rose(even with Jennings), Melo,KP, or Noah on the court at all times. It’s not that hard bro
Lance is going to lose his spot to Kuzminskis by Thanksgiving
Well I said Ndour for defensive purposes
both teams look horrible
Man, Beno Udrih is the MVP of the Knicks so far…
Jennings showing them how it’s done
If Ndour is being guarded by Drummond and KP is bei,g guarded by Leur why is KP the one playing on the perimeter?
That’s a few too many wide open dunks for Leuer.
Can someone teach KP Drummond’s hook shot?
@5
I’m glad the app is working for you on Rocky because it’s not working on my firestick. Had to go the laptop route
Morris and Harris are bad matchups for the Knicks
At least Melo is finally getting some calls.
Right? The thing that distresses me the most is that the Pistons don’t even look that good (outside of Drummond, of course)!
So when does Hornecek install the defense
Okay, Morris is looking good, too. But still.
Melo is being killed by Morris.
If the Knicks lose it will be on Hornacheck for leaving that shit lineup in
our D is not a D
That was a really long break for Rose and Melo. I’m still confused why Rose and Jennings are playing together though
That sequence on both ends of the court is why Melo can be hard to love. Just bad basketball…
Melo gets blown by on D, proceeds to jack up a contested 3 to get back at Morris, fails to cover Morris on the break and gives him an open 3, which he promptly buries.
This team has defensive issues
@44. Roku NBA app is working, but it has dropped out 3 times and I’ve had to reload the game.
So far, Rose is fine. The defense sucks. Morris is owning Melo.
Yeah, Melo is losing his matchup with Morris, which I did not expect.
Morris always plays him well and they are almost doppelgängers except Morris is younger n faster
I’m glad the Knicks spent all that time in practice on the triangle offense and not even bothering talking about the defense.
The defense tonight is AWFUL! L. Thomas looks like a complete waste of PT. Where is Cheezus???
That was an awful foul by Johnson.
LT has completely lost confidence in his shot. Maybe that’s a good thing?
Great individual D from Rose on that last possession
Yeah Rose looking good except for that play where he passes up the layup
Thomas’ shot was the one thing that made him a decent player last year, so it’s definitely not a good thing. He is signed for three more years after all.
Take away Lance’s shot and you’re left with a nice guy who isn’t very good at basketball
Idc. I don’t wanna see him again unless it’s garbage time. Ndour has showed more than Thomas has shown all season
It’s not only LT’s shot that’s shot. He threw the ball into the stands with no Knicks within 10 feet of the pass. He looks totally lost. He might go down as the worst off-season signing. Could it be the new system?
That was his career before last year in a nutshell. Nice guy who doesn’t really do much good on the court.
I loved Ndour’s confidence. I hope we see enough of him that people learn to spell his name correctly (as you did).
really bad half for KP- looked lost on both ends.
I thought the coach wanted this team to play a tough brand of basketball. Tonight they look very, very soft! Noah looks a little slow tonight, Melo, not sure what he is doing on the defensive end, Rose and Jennings are trying I guess, Lance looks like he is running in mud, O’Quinn = Dumb Fouls, KP not playing like a 7 footer = rushed 25 footers? Sheesh.
Holiday, what a block!!! N’Dour, good effort.
Please play with some passion on the defensive end fellas. We should win this game!!!
@71 yeah like I said Harris n Morris are terrible matchups for our Forwards
Anyone gonna mention that Zinger had an awful half?
And I don’t know if anyone will get the reference, but Baynes looks like Zippy the Pinhead.
KP had his worst half. I want to see him closer to the basket more often. Who taught Lance that floater? Melo is Melo again. Holiday could help us tonight if he returns. Our PGs were fairly good tbh. NDour looked decent as well.
I like KP down low better than by the arc. That was a nice turn around bank shot. Now he friend a three as I (very slowly) type. :)
What the F is wrong with Melo on D? Melo doing a Harding impersonation tonight? Halloween was yesterday my dude!
Nice to see KP’s shot progressing to the mean
now if he could just play defense/rebound
Knicks can shoot tonight
@77 he can’t guard Morris….it is what it is. You have to just hope he misses jumpers
Nice start to the 2nd half. I take back everything I said that might have been construed as negative.
I like KP when he makes shots.
:-)
Our defense is a little rusty
Would rather have NDour on Morris
Sick screen by Billy
Rose just isn’t a very smart player. They had a 5 on 4 when Pope went down and he puts up a low percentage runner in the lane.
When did Morris turn into Bernard King?
It feels like the only time Rose passes is when he realizes he doesn’t have a shot after leaving his feet and just heaves the ball into oblivion
While I agree, this has always been his game. When he’s hitting his shots, he’s still a plus. When he isn’t, then, well, yeah. But tonight he’s mostly been hitting. The amazing thing about him is that he shoots so much that a good shooting night can suddenly be a bad shooting night in the span of a few missed possessions.
WHG looks very Bargs-ish on defense.
I can’t watch this type of game. I guess I’m old school cause I grew up with the 90’s Knicks but seeing the utter disinterest and pathetic effort on defense is 500X more annoying to me than seeing Melo or Rose take stupid shots.
@88, No…Not at all.
Billie/Willie is the worst defender on the Knicks and that is really saying something.
Such a winnable game that it feels like we are just not hungry enough to win. And we should be STARVING!!!
Good call.
Again, the worst part of all of this is that the Pistons don’t even look good. Look at the guys on the court for them! Freakin’ BENO!
Needed that 3
O’Quinn is a block machine
Can we start hack a Drummond soon?
The Pistons aren’t even taking that many 3’s. They are getting wide open looks from anywhere they want.
Jennings definitely can pass it’s a shame he also tries the whole shooting thing
Luckily, the Pistons are playing like shit in this stretch. They’re keeping the Knicks in it practically by themselves!
Idk That Pie you guys were talking about taste just fine to me.
A couple of huge plays by Rose. This game could have gotten away if he hadn’t stepped up.
Melo is just pissing me off royally tonight. I’ve always kind of bristled at the constant Melo bashing on this forum but when he plays a game like his tonight, he can be infuriating. I expect guys like him to play harder and smarter when the team needs him. Do something that make a positive difference. Just chucking long jumpers ain’t doing for me.
For some reason I thought the Knicks were pretty set in the front court. If Cheezus and NDour have anything to offer, we need to get these guys minutes.
I like DRose…The floater is a part of his game. Simple as that. And, the guys is truly putting forth an effort to play defense. I can remember always expecting EVERY teams point guard to crazy on us every single. Now, not so much! And, the other team actually has to expend some energy guarding our PGs. How refreshing!!!
Having said that, I have no idea what those last two possessions between Melo and Rose where. High Iso???
I love the game threads because everybody keeps their shit brief
Seriously, what the FUCK??? Horney, Call Time out and give this team a couple of plays or just yell. Do something!!!!!
Guys like Lebron, CP and couple of others make all the difference in the world during games like this.
Not one for Lance’s highlight reels.
Now the offense has gone to shit at a time when they started to finally get stops.
Hornys rotations kinda suck. Not gonna lie
Horny left Thomas in WAY too long.
Pistons have 32 points in the second half and are still winning. Smh
LT to the Westchester knicks NOW !!!!
We need a good offensive play right here. Why aren’t we fouling Drummond?
Seriously!
Maybe Melo should play the 4 alot more. Seems to me that he’s having to work harder against SF’s than he’s ever had to work..even against lesser defenders like Tobias Harris. That quick first step appears to be gone. He looks like he needs to be used like Boeheim used him at Syracuse
Yeah, LT has 26 minutes tonight? I don’t know what Hornacek is seeing in him.
That was a bad turn of events.
It’s almost like you don’t want Rose to start too well or else you get this for the rest of the game
This loss is on the Coach. Horrible lineups in the 2nd and 4th
I agree in general, but Noah has to play, as well, so they’re going to need to play Melo at the 3 a lot.
Eh, he’s going to do this no matter what. You just have to hope he hits more than he misses.
NO MORE LANCE. Keep one of the top 3 scorers on the court at all times. Simple shit
Hey even the great LBJ/Bosh/Wade Miami Heat team took a while to click. They started out at nine and eight.
They just gave Thomas a four-year deal. They’re not going to bench him after three awful games.
Thomas played as much as Ndour, Oquinn, and Holiday combined. How Sway?
I love the excuses being made for Melo. I just dont see alot of effort consistently. He takes plays off. He’s been doing this for years.
@123
Yeah, but don’t give him 26 minutes. He had the same # of minutes as KP until 3 min. left in the 4th.
Then, the question is how many awful games before you do bench him?
Not a good finish.
I don’t see why that matters. He can play 10mins a gme
UGLY
@125 who are you talking about ? And as bad as he was he had 4 steals. At this point he is who he is. I hope every one is as tired of referendumising him since he’s been here
There were parts of the game where KP just stunk. I think that’s why LT had more time.
What does this Isola tweet mean?
Hell nah @131
Noah going to threaten some low scoring records before this contract is done
I didn’t wanna believe it at first, but Melo’s 1st major injury came at a really bad time for him. It damn near cost him the tools that makes him an elite scorer. With or without the extra help on offense, last season’s version of Melo (which isn’t bad) may be all that’s left. Really sad because I hoped we would see the version of Melo that’s closer to the 12-13 Melo with all the help he has this season
This was just a really, really bad effort. Along with the poor play of the players, I’m not feeling to good about the coaches effort tonight. Just sitting there and watching them shit the game away is what fans do. Isn’t the coach supposed to intervene at some point and provide a little direction?
On a positive note, I continue to like what I see from Holiday.
I can still see where the team clearly needs more time together to work on the half court offense. However, there is noooo excuse for the lack of defense.
Melo hips look like they are tight and stiff. He basically moves like Lance Thomas now. We love Olympic-Memo but unfortunately Melo looked bad this Olympics and has carried over that play so far.
5:42 is a long time to go without getting buckets
The re-emergence of Theo is among us my brothers. Let us pray we beat Houston and that James Harden doesn’t score 82 on us tomorrow.
As for Hornecek: he kind of let Melo and Rose cool off by sitting most of the second qtr then did the same thing with KP in the 4th after he started scoring. Odd.
Thomas is not making enough to justify worrying about his confidence. His contract is basically the same one we gave Kyle O’Quinn adjusted for the new salary cap.
If the best player on your team doesn’t put forth winning effort defensively than there is nothing the coaches can do. Besides bench him. What good would that do. Marcus Morris had a field day on Melo.
Luckily Houston played tonight, as well.
I liked what Hornacek was doing by keeping KP out of the game to match Melo and LT on Morris and Harris. The big issue was Melo and Rose went away from the system basketball that brought us back and it murdered our offense. And Joe Noah has to find his offense or those assists will tail off later in the season.
Brian, pretty soon Isola will be tweeting about Isiah’s return lol.
Why do you guys even read Isola? For the absurdity of it all?
Looked to me like they were afraid to give their 100% because of the back2back tomorrow.
They gave their 49%…
If Joakim Noah leads the Knicks in assists this year (and he will since the triangle runs through the front court), what’s the historical precedent for that?
I just don’t even get what it meant. I mean, we’re all used to him trolling, but what did that comment even mean?
I was following the box score on Yahoo and they retweeted him.
Wilt once had the most assists in the entire league! But yeah, it’s rare for centers to lead teams in assists.
The offense looks really bad… and im not sure how great its gonna look when melo and rose are just trading shots with each other…. i think a lot of that is rubbing off on kp….
Defensively kp has lots of issues against these spread pnr teams…. but itll come with time…. hes gonna get abused again vs houston….
@130
Im just venting bro. He is who he is wouldnt fly for anyone else tho. Hes the best player on our team. He sets the tone. Which has been mediocrity ever since he got here.
These teams in the east that we are competing against arent necessarily better than we are from a talent standpoint. But they commit to defense.
Okay, I clicked on Isola’s Twitter account and I see what he was trying to say. Allegedly Jackson wasn’t happy that the Knicks didn’t run the triangle a lot on Saturday. So that’s why he thinks Jackson should take the blame for tonight. Weak trolling, of course, but at least I understand what he was saying now.
That was a really horrible look looking game. The game was closer than it should have been most of the time. With Rose in we had little half court offense, probAbly because he doesn’t know it yet. With the bench in, we just had no offense.
The Knicks offense looked great until they started going D Rose/Melo hero ball on us. And it was the defense that let us down?
It’s nobody’s fault Lance Thomas can’t hit an open jumper (he’s the scapegoat for me; be mad later). It’s not the Triangle Offense that made Melo call for picks and then shoot without passing the rock. Blaming the triangle for tonight’s loss is lazy and annoying.
I’m not blaming the triangle, I think they should have used it instead of heroball. But I’m not sure they can with Rose in there, because he probably doesn’t know it well enough. Their early in the game offense was ok in spurts, but bogged down when the Pistons slowed it down. It didn’t help that many Knicks weren’t hitting their shots.
We run our offense through Noah because he’s a good passing big man, but it’s a problem when the man guarding him plays 5 feet off of him and can disrupt passing lanes. As ugly as Noah’s shot is, he has to take it sometimes and keep the defense honest.
Running an offense and promoting ball movement, triangle or not, has nothing to do with what the Knicks (read: D Rose and Melo) did to throw the offense out of rhythm. All of that stupid “set a pick and let me play ball” nonsense is not going to work against a defense like Detroit. You have to pass the ball, and that one pass nonsense is not going to cut it.
@157 btw I’m not saying you’re blaming Phil Jackson. That was my reaction to Isola’s idiotic tweet.
Noah should not shoot
Ever? I recall when he was a Bull he’d take (and make) an occasional 10 footer. You can’t have a guy initiating the offense who doesn’t have to be guarded.
I mean did you see that shot he took tonight?
Who wins a game of horse, Noah or Lance? Follow-up question, how long does that game take?
Til the trade deadline
It’s not gonna keep the defense honest if you legit can’t make the 15 footer. That’s the problem with relying on Joakim. It works in semi transition because players are out of position, but in the halfcourt, especially when you have Rose in the game as a second non-shooter, it’s gonna create problems against relatively intelligent defenses.
Actually running plays in the half court offense may have helped the situation…some. Melo doing the Melo last night did NOT help. He has help now and should initiate not rely on the type of shots he took when the team was less talented. Show some leadership Melo. He unlike Rose, should know the offense well enough by now. There is no good reason for some of the shots he chucked up last night and his defense was putrid.
