2017-18 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Thunder

Sorry, I thought I would be back in time to start a thread.

At the half, the Knicks lead 50-44.

Let’s go, second half Knicks!

50 first-half points without KP or Timmy against a very good Thunder defense. Horny’s offense is legit.

I’m not sure I was expecting a defensive struggle, but that is what this game seems to be

I really can’t stand Beasley, but with KP and Hardaway out there aren’t a lot of other options. So far so good, but you live and die with the guy, and I think we’ll be doing some dying in the 2nd half.

Having Melo back at MSG is like having dinner with your ex-girlfriend and being reminded why you stopped digging her.

Baker is a NBA player!

Budget Melo > Melo is what I’ll take from this game, win or lose. The Walking Bucket is on!!!

Beasley is like BizarroMelo. He’s so freaky looking, almost like a Star Trek character. Have you ever seen him smile?

turns out you don’t need to have won a NCAA championship to drain deep threes in the NBA

They can be frustrating to watch at times but this is a really fun team to watch and root for.

There is no way Paul George is resigning with OKC. Or melo for that matter. They just looked pissed all the time because they aren’t getting their touches.

I will be so, so sad if the Knicks can’t re-sign McDermott for some reason, I just love him so much.

Ref #5 loves to blow his whistle. I’ve said that before in previous games. He calls lots of ticky tack stuff.

Anyways, loving McD.

Most guys don’t play well in their reunion game, especially after a triple-overtime affair the night . I think Beasley is gonna have a big night.

I shoulda bought a powerball ticket tonight

Why do people think Melo is good….again? and what is the difference between a volume shooter and a chucker? I was never clear on that…

I know the Thunder were away on a back to back after a grueling overtime game, but this was a big game. Kudos to Horny and his offensive system.

This was the best Beasley we’ve seen, he was gigantic. Jack was hugely important in the 4th too, he played very smart.

This win feels so damn good. There’s no excuses, facing the Knicks without KP and Hardaway should be an easy win for any respectable playoff team. The Thunder did lack their best player tho, Steven Adams.

Beasley does some dumb shit out there, but he is pretty much what he says he is…a walking bucket.

I guess people will finally recognize that Beasley is valuable to this squad. The guy has talent.

Great win for us tonight.

Let’s go Knicks!!!!

This has to be a hard loss for Melo. You just know he expected to return to MSG a conquering hero on a contending team against a subpar Knicks team that misses him. Instead, he leaves washed up on a team with a losing record that was spanked by the bench squad he left behind.

This was a very satisfying, hard fought, under-manned, high-intensity win for the Knicks. Needed before the trip-from-hell. The upcoming schedule: 6 home games, 18 away.

Melo played a great 3-OT game the night before and probably didn’t have much in the tank. Their starting C was out as well.

I do feel a little bad for Melo. You know he wanted to win tonight…badly. He gave us some good years and great moments. People seem to forget that in light his diminished play of the last couple of seasons.

I’m glad he’s no longer a Knick but I wish him well.

Ahhh mannnn I can’t believe I missed that game. Super cool BEAS!
I’m happy for the guy, but how bad must OKC be? I know they’re on a back-to-back on the road after a triple OT game, but that was rough.
Anyway, doesn’t seem like Frank got much burn, but looks like McD, Baker, and weirdly Jack did some good things. Too bad Doncic is just totally out of the picture now. Oh well.

Some people on here really show their ass when it comes to Melo. I’ll never understand what seems to be such a personal hatred for a guy who played for us and at times played very well.

Save that shit for Paul Pierce….

No excuses. This is what melo is. Believe me I see his daily box score on my fantasy team.
So great hearing Clyde say “melo with the matador D” when he’s on the other team.
Oh, gravity.

Huh funny how the Suns just scooped a game at ‘Sota without the Great NBA Star Devin Booker and his meaningless .096 WS/48. How could that have happened?

Jarrett Jack’s stats are meh but he’s easy to root for. The dude just exudes poise and leadership.

Horny’s offense is legit, BTW. The Thunder were tired, but they have a serious defense.

off night for frank…ron though starting to show a little consistency…

man, ron is one of those really perplexing players…no doubt though his defense makes him deserving of minutes; but, when he hits his shots and creates – he’s actually a pretty valuable rotation player…

good for him…

okc does a much better job moving the ball with the penguin out on the floor…westbrook is an athletic freak – but, he sucks at running an offense…

yeah, that second half was a great reminder of why it feels so good to see melo wearing someone else’s uniform…

honestly, now that beasely knows he’s gonna get consistent minutes – his game is really filling out…he passes, gets down in a good defensive stance, doesn’t rush every shot – really looks like he belongs out there at the moment…

his confidence is through the roof right now…well done rambis, good coaching horny…

@69

He was really ass and Beasley outplayed him hard. He did look gassed but you know, I’m not making excuses for a super team playing against Lance Thomas and Michael Beasley as starters. If Westbrook could make basic free throws they wouldn’t even have played the 3 overtimes in the first place.

Despite the gaudy stats, Westbrook is not a guy I would ever want as the centerpiece of my team. Seems like a me-first guy.

Tonight’s win in the grand scheme of things was close to worthless. We were powered by Beasley, Jack, and Lee tonight. Those guys won’t be on this team when we’re contenders so their good nights don’t do much for the development of this team. Ron Baker and Doug McDermott seem to be playing well though, and that’s a good sign.

Perry has done well with his low end acquisitions. I think Beasley, Sessions and Jack all make the minimum. They are all worth that more to the Knicks

I think that Beasley might stick around. He’s 28, so in two or three years he could probably still be a good backup off the bench

He has soooooooooooooooooo many bad habits, but I still think he could be a great #2 guy. I mean, Kyrie Irving won a title, ya know? Westbrook is probably better than Irving. But yeah, if Westbrook’s your number one, you’re probably capped a bit from being a true title contender.

Grand scheme? No, you’re right, it doesn’t mean that much. But since they’re obviously going to try to make the playoffs, we might as well root for them to make the playoffs (I’d prefer they make the playoffs and get the #15 pick to them missing the playoffs and getting the #14 pick) and this win was huge for their playoff hopes. The upcoming road-heavy schedule will tell the true tale of the season, but three over on December 17th is not half bad!

Given that the average win prediction by Knickerblogger was twenty eight wins for the season, which wasntvfar from the Vegas line, and that, now, technically, they are tied for fourth one the East, they are doing great. I hope I just didn’t jinx anything.

I think we beat a vulnerable team under ideal conditions. But it’s the way we’re playing that is making me optimistic about the future. The ball movement and the effort on D are really great to watch. I still think we could lose 10 straight at some point, but the lack of drama from the players, management and ownership to the blend of no-name overachieving vets and young players, to having all of our draft picks and no albatross max contracts, this is the best I’ve felt about the direction of the team in a loooooooong time.
