    1. So, Wroten’s contract is so ingeniously team-friendly, I’m surprised we’re still called the Knicks (P&T):

If Wroten is still on the roster on Oct. 10, his salary guarantees for $25,000 for 2016-17. If Wroten makes the opening day roster, his salary guarantees $125,000 for 2016-17. If Wroten remains on the roster on Dec. 15, his salary guarantees $345,000. Finally, if Wroten is still on the roster on Jan. 10, his salary guarantees $1,050,961.

      And heh:

Strange situation regarding Afflalo’s move to the bench. Rambis says he spoke to him about new role; Afflalo says no conversation took place -SBondyNYDN

    2. This D’Angelo Russell story is unreal.

      Time to buy low, Phil!

Melo for Russell and a S&T’d Clarkson? Then Lakers can chase Conley + Durant and still have $ left over?

    3. I’m not sure I’d even want to trade for him! (Admittedly, I never was big on Russell, though I haven’t watched enough [any] Laker games to know whether I should change my stance.)

    4. If the Lakers stay in the top 3 draft (they’re currently second to last and five games behind the Suns), they keep their pick for this year. I’d salivate at a Melo for Russell/pick/trash. But they’d never do it.

edit: and we’d never do it

    5. I would salivate over a promising young player who isn’t ostracized by his entire team over something he purposely did. Seriously, this makes Dwight Howard look like an adult in comparison.

    6. Melo and Lopez for their 2016 pick/Russell/Young. The Buss son would do that in a heartbeat. The real question is would Jeanie approve it? Jeanie’s given him 2 years to make the Lakers relevant and Russell/pick wouldn’t do that. Melo/Lopez/Randle + free agents would do that. The plot thickens because Jeanie would talk to Phil about Melo and Phil appears to be tepid in that regard. When asked about a Melo trade, Jax references the NTC instead of couching it in a more positive way by saying Melo wants to be here and we need him to move forward. And then there’s the possibility Phil plans to opt-out after year 3 to become GM of Lakers. So even if Melo would waive the NTC to go to Lakers, Phil might nix it. tl;dr way too complicated to predict.

    7. He’s got a home in LA. His family lives in LA for 1/3 of the year. He’s not going to Cleveland, Boston, Chicago or any other city. LA (Clippers or Lakers) is the only possibility.

    8. Why would Melo be willing leave a mediocre team so he could go join a truly godawful team? Especially when the godawful team would have to give up useful assets to acquire him in the first place? Melo to the Lakers only makes sense if you’re a wishful thinking Knicks fan.

    9. Magic Antentokoumpo is going to be the full-time PG for the Bucks next season.

If only we could’ve gotten him…

    10. Am I the only one here who wants to punch D’Angelo Russell in the face? At least Kobe just TOLD..Russell did frickin surveillance!! Joke or not, that shit’s just not cool. Ah well..stuff like that must be a Lake Show thing, HA! In all seriousness, I was still all in on Phil goin full rebuild and movin Melo to LA for Russell and whichever parts makes the numbers match- if such a deal were to become available. But now..I don’t care how much potential he has and how much of a passing savant he is. NO WAY. Not in NY anyways. Especially after the Fisher fiasco. To be perfectly honest, and hypocritical, I probably wouldn’t be too upset if Phil was able to buy low on Russell and add him to Melo & KP. Or at least upset for very long. I’m a Knicks fan, we need W’s in bunches..and the rings that accompany them.

    11. I love when I’m gone for weeks, come back and see Jowles has changed his name, and it’s hilarious. Well done, sir.

But yeah, I haven’t read the story yet. I just saw the headline and wanted to reiterate for the millionth time this year: “Please trade Melo to the Lakers, Please trade Melo to the Lakers.”

    12. Why would Melo be willing leave a mediocre team so he could go join a truly godawful team? Especially when the godawful team would have to give up useful assets to acquire him in the first place?

I wonder if Nuggets fans were saying the same thing in 2011…

    13. https://twitter.com/colezwicker/status/714850348414808066

Langston Galloway is 163 mins away (23.3 mpg) from satisfying starters criteria.Would jump QO/cap hold from $1,180,431 to $2,725,003

Given how badly Galloway has shot of late, it should be pretty easy to justify keeping his minutes down. Though it would help if Rambis would actually freaking play Grant. What a weird roller coaster this season has been for Galloway. Early on, he was on fire, and it seemed like we were going to suffer badly for agreeing to a deal that made him a free agent this off-season. Now, I wonder how many other teams will be interested in him, even with all the new cap room.

    14. I wonder if Nuggets fans were saying the same thing in 2011…

Real shit I was thinking the same thing lol

    15. Melo and Lopez for their 2016 pick/Russell/Young

I think acquiring Russell and Young defeats the purpose.

I would salivate over a promising young player who isn’t ostracized by his entire team over something he purposely did. Seriously, this makes Dwight Howard look like an adult in comparison.

I hear you, but he’s 20, and apparently has the maturity of a 14 year old (according to Scott). Children grow up. I’d take the chance.

And it’s not like they’re lining up to give us prime young talent for Melo.

    16. when coach Kurt read phil’s spring break tweet, did he try to click follow on #embrace the serpent?

    17. @19

that’s because you and me shares a brain we are literally the same person

    18. Yeah I’d totally trade Melo for Russell and their pick–I go to bed praying that the Lakers are dumb enough to to do that. I go to bed praying that Melo is dumb enough to do that. Melo for Russell and a pick and filler is the shit dreams are made of.

    19. Imagine a core of Russell, Hield, and Porzingis. That’s nuts. It’s even more nuts if the Lakers were to luck out and get Simmons/Ingram.

This is mostly wishful thinking though since Melo is never leaving. That NTC was the worst move since the Bargnani trade.

    20. Yeah, I would do that trade too, but I’d hire Oakley to sit in a room with him for three hours and make him talk about grown ass men shit.

    21. Yeah you would just have to pay Willis or Oak to stare at him for 15 minutes and he’d straighten right up

    22. This Russell / Swaggy P story makes me realize how much I live KP. No way he does that shit to Lou Amundson.

    23. Meanwhile, Afflalo’s rhetoric about the benching is getting uglier. Hard to imagine him not opting out, which would be very good for us. I only hope that was the action intention of the move — or, at least, that Phil and Rambis were aware this might be a byproduct of it, and didn’t mind the potential outcome.

    24. Melo, 2016-17 6th Man of the Year, who says no (to a trade)?

    25. Arron Afflalo for NYK 2016 MVP! Gets Rambis fired and ensures we don’t resign Afflalo!! Leads the Knicks with a 2.000 PFOR (People fired over replacement).

Now if only he could start beef with Seraphin and Vujacic.

    26. Vlade signed an extension, can you say Lopez for WCS and McLemore. :)

I like WCS, but I’m only trading Lopez for a good guard or wing, and I don’t believe McLemore qualifies at the moment.

    27. My lord Sacramento is dysfunctional. Randive is doing his best James Dolan impression.

Lopez for WCS/McLemore would be hngggggggggggggg

In a perfect world we’d do a Lopez for WCS + McLemore swap, flip McLemore for whatever we can get, and then trade Melo for Russell + Lakers pick and then pick one of Hield, Ben Simmons, or Brandon Ingram.

What a nice fantasy to entertain. The sad thing is that it would be somewhat possible if Melo didn’t have an NTC and Phil had any idea of how to properly rebuild a team–neither the Lakers nor Sacramento have made a good trade in like, 6 years or something.

    28. Melo, 2016-17 6th Man of the Year, who says no (to a trade)?

That would be one of the greatest pieces of “Wow, let’s look at that trainwreck!” potential imaginable.

    29. Funny enough I think he could win that award in a few years. Like a much better version of current Vince Carter

    30. Late in his career Melo, certainly. But I don’t see him going to the bench until midway through his next Knick contract.

    31. Assuming we aren’t foolish enough to bring back Seraphin and we can move O’Quinn (who I would be happy to keep but seems in the doghouse), what about bringing back David Lee?

    32. But I don’t see him going to the bench until midway through his next Knick contract.

Doesn’t Melo have a No Bench Clause in his current contract?

    33. Funny enough I think he could win that award in a few years. Like a much better version of current Vince Carter

      http://bkref.com/tiny/ngjJL

Well, I mean, Carter was better in his age 31 season, so I mean, is he, like, really going to be “much better?”

    34. Assuming we aren’t foolish enough to bring back Seraphin and we can move O’Quinn (who I would be happy to keep but seems in the doghouse), what about bringing back David Lee?

If they keep the Triangle, then I could see them bringing in Lee in that scenario, but only in that scenario (both Seraphim and O’Quinn gone).

    35. I like how Young is running around cheating on his fiance, yet the story is all about how Russel broke some nonsense bro code.

Wait, like isn’t the word…disappointed, that’s the word I’m looking for. Russel went about it the wrong way, sure, but how does Young get off without looking like a creep too? Misogyny is alive and well in Trump’s America.

    36. Our big acquisition is going to be Evan turner… Resigning lance and Gallo are also his priorities.

Lee would be nice but we still need a pg… Could rolo be trade bait for someone , no idea who though ?

    37. @45

Nick Young isn’t the only cheater in the NBA. They’re largely multimillionaire celebrity athlete young men who have more pressure to (1) have casual sex virtually indiscriminately and (2) develop a relationship with individual monogamous women than you or I will ever experience. This shit is going to happen.

D’Angelo Russell is, as far as I know, the only NBA player to white-knight his teammate by secretly recording a video full of leading questions and then posting it to the internet where it would inevitably become front-page sporting news. It’s not about bro-code. It’s about having a private conversation with your teammate about his infidelity vs. secretly recording it on video and sharing it with the internet.

      C’mon now.

    38. People have really come around on Evan effing Turner. Count me out. I predict he never has a single year with a VORP > 1, especially if he leaves Brad Stevens for a worse coach. If we want a guy in that general sucky universe, I’d rather trade for MCW, assuming he is available for basically nothing, since he’s fallen victim to project Giannis. You get all the mediocrity but 3 years and $10 million dollars off the MSRP.

You are absolutely right about the adultery. But as far as a sports story it’s about a teammate betraying the other teammates trust and the other ancillary teammates hating him for it. The subject matter doesn’t really matter

    40. I saw Turner play the other night and he never touched the ball. No thanks.

My sinister plan is to sign Horford away from Atl and then say sorry by trading them Lopez for Teague. We would have money left over for a Lee, Bazemore or Crabbe I believe too if Jose is stretched and AA opts out.

      Teague
      Lee
      Horford
      KP
      Melo

      That’s good!

    41. @49

Huh? So you’re saying Young wasn’t wrong? That because he’s a millionaire young athlete that makes it ok? Sorry, but I’m going to have to strongly disagree with you there. I hold millionaire athletes to the same standards I hold myself and my family/friends to when it comes to cheating on your significant other. No amount of money makes that ok.

Oh sure, it’s going to happen. I’d like to know where I suggested it wouldn’t though, but just because it happens doesn’t make it right. Nor does it make it ok to make the story entirely about Russel.

Look, I agree he went about it in a very shady manner and if I were on the Lakers I’d probably be a bit weirded out by it too. It’s pretty clear he didn’t do it to right some romantic injustice, but to just get Young in trouble. That’s bad. I agree. The story should have that in it, no doubt. But we also shouldn’t just gloss over the fact that what Young did was wrong too, and to simply ignore it or shrug it off as “it happens, whatever” is rather disappointing.

Not that I give one shit or another about whatsherface azalea or Nick Young in particular. I was more commenting about the fact that a man can have an affair, get busted for it, and the story is entirely about the dude who did the busting and what a sleaze he is. Which he is, I agree. But so is Young. That’s all I’m saying.

    42. Your sinister plan sounds good. But I don’t like the idea of trading for Teague for one year

    43. Look, I agree he went about it in a very shady manner and if I were on the Lakers I’d probably be a bit weirded out by it too. Young having an affair isn’t interesting. As you say, who gives a shit about who Nick Young is having sex with? A player secretly taping a teammate to get him to admit to infidelities and then posting said tape? That’s bonkers. That’s interesting. Of course that’s going to be the story. It has nothing to do with sexism or whatever. It has to do with what is an interesting story and what isn’t. Nick Young cheating on his fiancee isn’t a story.

    44. Young having an affair isn’t interesting. As you say, who gives a shit about who Nick Young is having sex with? I hear what you’re saying, and I don’t disagree with you…mostly. I fear, however, that if a story like this came out of, say, the WNBA, the offending adulteress would most likely be getting slut-shamed to an absurd degree.

Yes, following Russell is the most interesting way to tell this story, and the best way to get clicks. I’m not arguing that point. I’m just saying that if you put this story in a female sport, a women’s league, you can’t help but think the woman who cheated would be getting it just as bad, if not worse, from the media and fans (though, perhaps not her teammates).

    45. Huh? So you’re saying Young wasn’t wrong? That because he’s a millionaire young athlete that makes it ok? … to when it comes to cheating on your significant other. No amount of money makes that ok.

Not at all. If Young and Azalea had a monogamous agreement, he broke that covenant by sleeping around. By the definition of any such arrangement, he fucked up. He’s in the wrong.

Oh sure, it’s going to happen. I’d like to know where I suggested it wouldn’t though, but just because it happens doesn’t make it right. Nor does it make it ok to make the story entirely about Russel.

      It’s not. That’s why it’s a big deal.

Look, I agree he went about it in a very shady manner and if I were on the Lakers I’d probably be a bit weirded out by it too. It’s pretty clear he didn’t do it to right some romantic injustice, but to just get Young in trouble. That’s bad. I agree.

That makes it especially bad. Doing it out of a sense of moral conviction? That’s called “being principled.” Not that I agree with his principles, because I don’t; Young and Azalea’s relationship should only require outside intervention if she is in some danger of physical or emotional harm. Doing it for the luls? He’s basically a 4-channer, except he is in a professional association of highly-skilled laborers who are paid millions of dollars due to their rarity. It’s borderline sociopathic.

Not that I give one shit or another about whatsherface azalea or Nick Young in particular. I was more commenting about the fact that a man can have an affair, get busted for it, and the story is entirely about the dude who did the busting and what a sleaze he is.

Like I said, it’s about the rarity, here. How many NBA players cheat? Lots. Because of the extreme number of avenues in which to do so. But how many NBA players broadcast their teammates cheating on the internet? That’s what makes it newsworthy.

    46. I hear what you’re saying, and I don’t disagree with you…mostly. I fear, however, that if a story like this came out of, say, the WNBA, the offending adulteress would most likely be getting slut-shamed to an absurd degree.

      1) Misogyny is real and it exists. You’re right. It’s often misogynists who argue that it doesn’t.

      2) This did not come out of the WNBA. The hypothetical case isn’t relevant here.

      3) The issue is in the video-taping and the broadcasting, not in the intervention. It’s newsworthy because of their stature, but it’s also weird for someone to do that. It’s unhinged. Even between three non-celebs, this would be weird. If someone in my Facebook feed did it, I’d be weirded out.

    47. Yeah, I don’t see how any iteration of this story wouldn’t result in the Russell analogue being the main story. If things were different, like if it was some non-athlete doing the taping, then sure, Swaggy P would be the “story,” since between the two, he’d be the famous person in the story (quotes because I don’t think such a story would get past TMZ). But WNBA player tapes her teammate admitting to infidelities? That would be the story there, as well.

    48. Why did Russell do it? Is he a bible thumper?

Some people just want to watch the world burn. Seriously, though, it seems like he did it just to be a dick.

    49. It’s sort of a game theory question more than anything. What does D’Angelo Russell gain, and what does he lose? We understand what Nick Young is risking and what he’s rewarded with. But Russell? The fuck?

    50. It’s sort of a game theory question more than anything. What does D’Angelo Russell gain, and what does he lose? We understand what Nick Young is risking and what he’s rewarded with. But Russell? The fuck?

There are only two things that make any sort of sense to me (I’m discounting “Bible-thumper,” because Russell isn’t one):

      1. He just hates Young for some unknown reason (even that seems weird, because if that was the case, then Young sure didn’t know that Russell hated him, as they’re talking like pals)
      2. He is getting off on all the attention the tape he knew the tape would get from the country (this one seems oddly enough to be the most likely one, since he makes a comment about how his viewers will like this tape)

    51. Yeah, but they’re all themed now. The first theme was having exes live together, then they had people confronted with “skeletons from their closet” every week and now this year they’re basically making it Road Rules.

    52. Some people just want to watch the world burn. Seriously, though, it seems like he did it just to be a dick

I think they’ve been “pranking” each other all year. Russell, being a kid, didn’t know what line he was crossing.

Russell seemed like a dip-shit when they interviewed him on draft day. He seems to still be one. I’ll never forget hearing Towns speak for the first time at the draft, followed by Russell (then followed by KP, and Turner). There were some seriously smart, well spoken, charismatic kids interviewed that hour and D’Angelo Russell wasn’t one of them.

    53. think they’ve been “pranking” each other all year. Russell, being a kid, didn’t know what line he was crossing.

      yeah this.

…Nance said: “He still just has the mentality of having fun, whether it is at practice or in a game or in the locker room. He’s always picking at people, joking, nonstop. That’s his personality: a kid.”…

Elements of that personality were on display during a recent interview in the Lakers’ practice gym. As Russell spoke, he kept making spasmodic moves toward a button on a table that controlled the buzzer. He hit it 11 times during a 13-minute conversation, making the loud horn blare erratically through the gym…
