With the exception of the anniversary specials, I haven’t watched a full SNL episode in a decade, and barely even watch individual online sketches anymore. I suspected the Brunson episode would be bad, but I gave it a shot for Captain Clutch. Gave up halfway through. God, that was bad. The only thing I liked was the monologue, and that was something that I think only Knicks fans would find amusing. And it wasn’t even that funny; it was just awesome to see the guys all together, trying to do comedy.
Yeah, Alan, I was so hoping it was going to be at least neutrally droll, but the skits just got worse and worse. You probably missed it but they did one in an elementary classroom setting that was so cringy and inappropriate, I was kind of horrified for Jalen.
Those Clyde clips were more funny than last night’s ep.
No it’s not. Deuce is a solid. He deserves better.
It’s kind of a bummer that we’ve followed up a championship by making two of our 6 best players unhappy with their contracts while turning our back to the team’s most tenured player.

Deuce had a great year up until he got hurt. He came back for the playoffs and was in the rotation. He gave us his usual good defense but offensively he was not very good except for one blowout game against Philly that we would have won anyways even if hadn’t shot well that game.
With vets like Bruce brown and konchbar potentially making the team, he is probably expendable and spending 20 million on him doesn’t really make sense.
There is no indication that KAT is unhappy.
Both guys are under contract for this year. I get that the extension talks are an issue, but once they roll the balls out, it should be back to business.
I love Deuce, always have, even before he broke out. But he’s a utility player here and only his bargain contract makes him an awesome asset. You start getting up into 8 digits and that value doesn’t seem as great. I would miss him but since there seems to be no way to keep him while staying under the second apron unless KAT is cooperative, and our need for a better Mitch replacement seems more urgent than our need for a small wing with some rudimentary PG skills, I’m not all that worried about it.
Knicks announced signing of N’faly Dante was to an Exhibit 10 contract, not a 10-day contract.
This allows NYK to supervise his rehab from the February ACL tear. Exhibit 10 deal can be a path to either G League or a two-way.
Dante’s contract might also be serving a purpose as the 14th qualifying contract allowing Knicks to make any additional signings for training camp that have an Exhibit 9 clause. If Dante can’t play ball right now, his deal doesn’t need an Exhibit 9 because he is at no additional risk of injury.
Can you believe that a week from tomorrow we will be watching the Knicks play the Sixers in preseason game #1?
Obviously it won’t be anything like opening night on 10/20, but it’s still something to look very forward to.
Seems logical. But it’s also the same thought process that led to the Lakers getting letting Alex Caruso go.
One thing I’ve noticed is there’s been a tendency to deem people expendable based on how much we needed them this past spring. Considering how many anomalies occurred during that run, I don’t expect that to be a good framework for projecting future needs.
Just watched the opening and Cap’s monologue. The writing for the monlogue was decidedly better.
I wonder if JB due to his appearances and injury, as well as the others have put in sufficient off-season work to be ready on 10/20. I got to believe they haven’t.
Your answer is probably no, and I’m happy about that.
First, they should have taken time to enjoy their collective achievement. Secondly, I hope none of them touched a basketball for two months after the season in orderr to let their bodies collectively heal from the extra 19 games in the playoffs.
They might not play their best the first 15 games of the season and hopefully Brown will go 11 deep early and ease them back into optimum condition while exploring different combinations, but who cares. Keep the main thing the main thing.

The New York Knicks have signed Tyler Nickel and Kevin McCullar Jr. to two-way contracts.
Doesn’t that mean something bad if Nickel turns out to actually be good? Like we can’t sign him with the second round pick exception or something like that?
Nothing surprising there. Even if they clear room for Nickel by trading Dadiet, they’d likely only carry 14 players to keep the extra cap space open.
I have a feeling that Nickel is gonna be good. He will probably benefit from playing with good players around him that give him space. He seemed big and tough enough to guard, maybe a bit slow, but good head for the game and might make up for it in other ways. Really looking forward to him, Mo, and Kolek getting extended minutes in preseason.

We can’t sign him to the Second Round Pick Exception, which would allow us to give him 3 or 4 years. But we can still sign him other ways for up to 2 years, which would avoid a Diawara situation.
That’s cool. Thanks, EB. When Nickel looks good for a few games you’re probably going to have to explain those ways when we get worried that we won’t be able to keep him 🙂

Hubs, id argue Caruso played a larger role in the lakers winning the 2020 title than deuce did in us winning our title.
Caruso is a much more valuable player than Deuce.
I like the current cast of SNL and think the show has been on an upswing the last few seasons. But sports stars are always a crap shoot with SNL. Jalen is kind of lowkey when he talks to the media so not surprised it wasn’t great. Although a lot of times it’s just that week’s batch of sketches sucked.
And you may be right. I didn’t watch basketball in the bubble.
I do know the Lakers let Caruso go because they thought Talen Horton-Tucker made him expendable, and they still rue that decision.
But what I’m suggesting is that “role in winning our title” is being given way too much weight.
I used to watch the Yankees in the 90s. One year Tino Martinez didn’t play a big role in the title. The next year he did. Sometimes Andy Petite was the game 1 starter. Sometimes he was the 4th.
Assuming this is going to be 3 or 4 year run, we should be valuing things like age & production over sustained periods. How they performed in an extremely small sample this past spring shouldn’t be a critical data point.
Seems inevitable that one or more of the following things must happen before next year if Leon is forced to stay under the second apron, assuming that Brunson and OG are untouchable:
-KAT takes a significant pay cut, starting with opting out and extending
-KAT not extended and is either traded or let go in free agency
-One of the starters is traded or not extended, most likely Hart or Mikal.
-Deuce is not extended at fair market value and either traded or let go in free agency
-Both Alvarado and Shamet are traded for minimum salary coming back
-Deuce extends for less than his market value
Did I leave out any possibilities that would keep the team under the 2nd apron?
If not, seems to me that the most likely/most feasible outcome is that Deuce is not extended and is either traded or walks in free agency. Maybe that changes if there’s an unexpected development, like an injury to a key player.

True, but even more true if you said this exactly one year ago (minus he walks). Then Yabu sucks and Deuce gets injured. Leon pivoting because he has options (kudos Aller) is his strength. Way more so than his big decisions, which are about 50-50. But that first 50 is all he needs

Reese was solid. Nabors hardly used. Winston was pretty bad though the conditions played a part. Almost no downfield passes. There was not a stout pass rush, no sacks and only a few pressures. Burns played but injured his knee. Hood the db was solid as was Newsome.
As an Australian, I’d see SNL highlights and think “apart from not knowing who half these people are, some of it is funny”
and then i’d watch a full show and…. well….
