2025-26 Game Thread: Knicks @ Nuggets

The Knicks begin a big West Coast road trip with a visit to Denver to take on a walking wounded Nuggets team that still has Jokic and Murray, so they’re still a team that you need to pay attention to!

Let’s go, Knicks!

58 is still theoretically possible, which is great!

I would really like the Knicks to at least finish 2nd in the East!

She is! Interested to see how it goes.

The timeout at 4-2 in interesting. Not sure what that is about

Yet another game in which the starting lineup falls behind.

At some point they should stop trying this over and over.

It works with bad teams, but good teams exploit it too easily.

Nice take Josh. He’s done some good stuff too

We may need to win the bench minutes. Looking at you Mo

I know I’m a broken record, but I truly don’t get trading for KAT and then never playing 5 out. Like, why are you spending 60m/year on him?

If Hart is leading the team in FGAs, you know you are doing exactly what the other team wants you to.

I’m fine with the score, given we started poorly and still haven’t entirely found rhythm. We got this Denver team. We just need to impose our game.

Love the adjustment of attacking Jokic on D, who is def cheating off Mitch to help on the paint.

Knicks gonna have to stay composed because refs are on one tonight

I say this every time I see him but Jonas Valanciunas remains the last guy you wanted to see coming off the Viking longboat first

Getting in the bonus is great

Yeah, I felt there were a few tacit admission of fault calls there to make up for the nut-tap

I love how they are defending Murray. Not one inch of space.

Second quarter adjustment. Kudos to the coach on this one. He was getting lose a lot early on.

It’s amazing how getting a good defensive player (Jose), giving minutes to another one (Mo) and not playing a terrible one (Clarkson) as well as bad ones (Kolek) has made this defense better. Everyone else stepped up too, but the personnel change made a difference.

I am so happy I don’t have to watch Clarkson

What a shot by Jokic, incredible

OG does this once a month and I love it so much

He will be 1-8 next game but whatever

just prior to the start of a recent game mikal was bouncing around the court doing different elaborate handshakes with different teammates…

when he got to OG, OG like half heartedly raised his fist to give him a simple dap…

OG is just on another level of cool…

My main takeaway so far is we cannot under any circumstances lose Mitchell Robinson

I don’t remember the Knicks looking for Mitch as much as they are doing today.

Every time we get a clean fast break bucket like that I think about the twenty years between 2000-20 when we didnt have a single fast break bucket.

Their defense is not great

Up 13 at the half after that lackluster start? I will certainly take that.

Especially with Jalen being 1-8.

kind of bizarre halftime event…

proves the point, something doesn’t have to be all that good to grab your attention…

probably a lot cheaper than a red panda performance too…

It will take a 38-23 quarter every day of the week and twice on Sundays! We clearly outhustled them and imposed our game. Jokic is our biggest problem. If you double him, he’ll pick you apart anyway. Pick your poison. Also, they shot 21 free throws in two quarters. We got to clean this up.

I’m ok with Jokic scoring – Nuggets become dangerous when the others are scoring.

Love them Nuggets! 2-24 from three, 16-24 from the line!

At some point early on this team used to be the best offense in the NBA.

don’t wanna jinx nothing, and I know the nuggs played last night – but holy shit are we whipping that ass right now…

There was a period many years ago when we couldn’t win in Denver for over a decade and a half. We seem to have their number these days.

Jokic sits now. Let’s keep him on the bench the whole 4th quarter, please.

How do we transfer the Denver air to New York? Cuz OG plays so different lol

ha, KAT dogging mo all the way to the bench for not heaving an end of quarter shot…

With 0.02 on the clock a catch and shoot can never count.

Build good habits and a killer instinct! We are up by a lot, but the defensive let down since the end of the third quarter is not good at all. I like Mike Brown’s timeout.

[edit: I was wrong! He just emptied the bench! Lol!]

With 0.02 on the clock a catch and shoot can never count.

definitely willing to give mo the benefit of the doubt for being aware of the situation – i know though that KAT had no clue 😀

I don’t know when we became a defensive juggernaut, but all props to Mike Brown. This is a completely different team on the defensive end

(And damn I wish we had had Mitch against OKC on Wednesday)

No pass by Clarkson, then no defense by Clarkson.

Very Clarkson.

We won’t have to worry about that (b2bs in the playoffs) because we load managed him during the regular season.

Can’t recall a larger and louder Knicks contingent in Denver in the decades I have been watching this team.

It’s funny how well the Knicks have played against Denver these last 3 years.

You guys still want to give up on 20 yr old Dadiet for a 15th man on the roster?

Our end of bench appears to be better than their end of bench…

Up by 41 in Denver! I never thought I’d live to see that, and it comes against a Jokic team!

I think with that point difference the Knicks might now be 4th in net rating.

Dadiet is over 20ppg in the gleague this year. It’s nothing terribly remarkable and his 3p% is still garbage, but it’s a heck of a lot better than last year.

Also, I think there is a chance they start the day tomorrow as #5 in DRtg via basketball-reference. After facing the best offense in the league. Crazy.

An interesting development these past few games is that Brunson and KAT, while not having huge scoring games, are still contributing in other ways that is leading to a more balanced offense. This will pay dividends in the playoffs, provided Knicks remember we have others that can score and don’t have to play hero ball when the going gets tough

I like the way Brunson is playing lately. If the shot is not there he’s moving the ball better.

Kolek 8 assists in 9 minutes.

Serious question:

At what point does this stretch become better than January 2024?

Marechal, I had just said to my wife that this is the best we have played since that time.

At what point does this stretch become better than January 2024?

Good question. That 2024 stretch was short lived and hard to draw conclusions from, but it felt more forceful and dominant. I was in Europe for a week or so and had to stay up until 5am to watch a few of those games! But the feeling was that we became the best in the NBA. By the end of the second quarter, as far as I can recall, it was obvious that, no matter what the score was, nobody could beat us. The opponent knew it and we knew it! This current stretch is longer but with letdowns like the bad loss against Detroit, and two days ago the loss against OKC, no matter how hard we fought, which still raise questions about who we are and how far we can go.

That was awesome to see the Knicks just beat the shit out of them.
