Kolek had quite a day shooting yesterday. Granted, between the G League and the Wizards the defense probably wasn’t too tough overall, but it would still be a great sign if he could get more consistent from 3 and get is FT% back up to par.

cyber, nice comeback win for FC Porto!

Thanks, my friend. Almost there… 🙂
Now i need the Knicks to go all the way to make this a perfect sports year! 😉

I didn’t see the game, but it looks like pretty much everyone had a good shooting night.

Kolek’s 3p% is up ~75 points this year, bringing his average to 35%. His ts% is still a subpar 50.7%, as he’s not getting to the line nor does he shoot well from the charity stripe. Alvarado’s ts% is about 25 points higher, and closer to league average.

Kolek looks like he’s trying to be more aggressive. Recent appearances seems like he’s looking for his shot in those minutes. I’d like to see him get some time before playoffs start. Alverado brought some energy to the Knicks but he’s not shooting great. I

For the past 30 games, we have had the #1 net rating and defense in the NBA.

It decidedly does not feel that way, and even our overall marks on the season (3rd in offense, 5th in defense) tell the story of a downright elite team that belies my personal viewing and rooting experience.

I guess this kind of thing can happen when you rely a lot on guys like KAT and Mikal, whose play fluctuates a lot both from a production and, uh, vibes perspective.

I don’t know, it all feels kinda weird to me. But the numbers say teams in our general statistical range win titles at something better than once-in-a-blue-moon frequency.

    1

    Amusing things from last night:

Josh Hart being one away from the team record for most three pointers made in a row (9 for 9 so far…) is pretty weird. And delightful.

    Kolek scored 53 points yesterday.

The chemistry between Clarkson and Sochan last night was a bit like watching Pennywise and Bane doing neighborhood clean-up. I mean unsettling, but great…?

Liking Alvarado’s 8-0 assists-turnover rate. Plus he shot well!

Even Bridges had a (quiet but) good game, 14 with 6 assists.

Our two-headed center had 26 rebounds.

And Diawara continues to look like he’s for real (3-4 from three!).

Also, OG blowing a simple layup in that special OG way (not even close) had me — and Clyde! — almost peeing our pants.

    1

    and finally:

“The Knicks have a plus-11.8 net rating with Alvarado on the floor, the best mark on the team.”

The most positive development over the past 15-20 games has been KAT’s consistently strong performances. And maybe the eye test is failing me, but I do believe he’s much more engaged on the defensive end as well

We’re not hearing much talk lately about not knowing his role, I feel like he’s in a really good place right now both mentally and physically

And come playoff time, this version of KAT will be crucial to our success (or failure).

    1

If KAT plays like he did in that OKC game we lost, I think we can win the championship.

The last five games aren’t against the kind of competition that really can tell you anything, but KAT’s averaged 22.4 and 12.2 (vs. 20.2 and 12.0 for the season) with a +12.6 rating. He’s also doing less in the way of stupid stuff, as shown by averaging 2.4 fouls a game.

Definitely seems more engaged defensively, and less pouting. And the yelling at refs seems more good-natured than furious.

It decidedly does not feel that way, and even our overall marks on the season (3rd in offense, 5th in defense) tell the story of a downright elite team that belies my personal viewing and rooting experience.

I think it’s the occasional struggles with weak teams and losses against good teams like Detroit (2), OKC, LA, LA and Cleveland that give me the same feeling.

The improved defense is a total shock to me even with the addition of Alvarado and removal of Yabu, but even that feels like at least partially related to recent weak schedule.

There is no question that the schedule has been soft lately, but the defense has been good even before that. KAT and Brunson have definitely improved, MO adds some length, and Mitch has been great and healthy. Alvarado helps as well. Clarkson is giving it his all. Everyone seems more connected.

These last 10 games will test us pretty well. OKC and HOU on the road, the tail end of a road a b2b vs. Memphis, a crucial matchup with BOS, and 3 games againsty suddenly hot ATL and CHA. Toronto isn’t a pushover either, and the Pels are improved and not tanking. I can se us going anywhere from 4-6 to 7-3 in that stretch. If I had to bet I’d say 6-4, but I’m hoping for 7-3 and 54 wins to secure the over.

howdy doogie, up in oaktown with friend to do a doc appointment…

Oakland has a very: fuck it kind of vibe…

not sure why it’s such a challenge to follow along on a “standard” kind of social script…

glad though i’m comfortable to be as weird as I wanna be here…

all is well though, hope you are also doing well this fine monday, and your week is starting off right…

I’ve been sort of unenthusiastic about Josh Hart at times, but he is quietly putting together a magnificent season. His numbers for the season are very similar to those he put up in the 25 games after we acquired him…and if you factor in increased usage and 3PAr they are even more impressive. He is leading a very good team in BPM, which also says a lot.

    1

Of all the Knicks related sentiments you encounter with some frequency, Josh Hart trutherism is probably the one I most disagreeable. It’s simply stupid.

Since he got here, he’s done nothing but make us better. From his first game forward, we’re +6.1 with him on the floor and +3.2 with him off. You could try to write this off as noise if it wasn’t glaringly obvious from the numbers and eye test that he adds multiple elements (athleticism, playmaking, pace, etc.) we don’t get enough of elsewhere.

The complaints seem to boil down to the fact that he’s not a high-usage scorer, which, well yeah, if he was one, as well as an elite rebounder and strong secondary playmaker, he’d be competing for MVPs. But he’s great value for his salary and Leon getting him the building for a late first was one of his best moves.

“These last 10 games will test us pretty well”

Agree, sort of. The not-so-distant-cousin of tanking is-given the length of the season and harder toll on the bodies in today’s game-the remaining games will be about managing minutes as much as winning, for both us and our opponents.

It’s crazy to me that the Hornets are 7th overall in net rating (ahead of the Cavs). They’ll give Detroit (I think) a really tough first round series.

It is hilarious how fucked the Pistons are this year in their best season in, like, two decades.

    awww thanks doogie 😊

as a general rule if the folks around me are okay, well then i’m usually okay too…

still figuring out how to be a good partner, and still get what I want…blessed to get hugs and love all week every week…romantic intimacy is a pretty neat thing of itself though, something that was difficult for me previously…

one of the best skills I’ve picked up late in life here is the whole ability to have tough, sometimes emotional, conversations…

    double yuch…

    essential though for building relationships…

sometimes me simply being my perfect self isn’t adequate enough for others, and things gotta get discussed…at least that part of the thing gets easier over time…

The only legitimate knock on Hart is that when he’s having confidence issues from outside, he gives up 3s he probably should be taking and hitting at a decent clip. Then the defense starts adjusting, giving him space, puting a C on him etc… and that causes other issues. That comes and goes during the season and also occurred during previous seasons.

Other than that he’s clearly a plus player due to playmaking, rebounding, defensive versatility, finishing ability, energy and hustle etc..

    1

Josh Hart doesn’t strike me as a guy who has confidence issues on anything at all.

1 more cupcake win to go…
    + beat Hornets (away 3/26)
    + beat Boston (home 4/09)
    + go 4:3 the other 7 games.
    = #2 seed.

    (GUARAAAANTEEED)

Josh Hart doesn’t strike me as a guy who has confidence issues on anything at all.

If you don’t lke the word “confidence”, lets go with reluctance to shoot wide open 3s when he’s been shooting badly lately.

    https://nypost.com/2026/03/23/sports/josh-hart-hits-back-at-unfair-criticism-toward-knicks-mikal-bridges/

“He’s been doing what’s been asked of him,” Hart said. “And I’ve said it before — when you’re a guy who, for a year and a half [with the Brooklyn Nets] when you’re the No. 1 guy and he’s getting those plays called for him.

“Last year, he didn’t have many plays called for him. This year, he probably has even less plays called for him. So obviously there’s a mental hurdle he needs to get through and that’s something where some of us can help him. I think he gets some of that unfair flak just because he’s doing what’s asked of him. And if we were to sit there and say, go shoot 15 shots a game, he would be efficient and he could do it. But that’s not what’s been asked of him.”

“Try to make sure to get him involved a little bit more, get him the ball when he’s running in transition, get him in position to be successful,” Hart said. “He’s been doing what’s been asked of him.”

Josh Hart doesn’t strike me as a guy who has confidence issues on anything at all.

Every beat writer says Josh has confidence issues, which is why he goes through those long stretches where he’s reluctant to shoot.

Cam Thomas being waived by the Bucks. No surprise, but does he even have a market at all?

Who would want him? He can’t help a good team — except in a small, break in case of emergency Jordan Clarkson-type role — and bad teams at this time of year want to give minutes to players who might have a future with them.

Daniss Jenkins ends the Lakers streak

Only shooting 40 %, seems like he is kind of what they needed from Ivey

Luka misses a 3; Pistons win. Pacers forgot to tank tonight, and they were among the league’s best at it. Maybe they’ll still get it done.

And Fultz gets yet another chance with the Raptors.

Can I critique Bridges for attacking the rim and deciding it’s better to take those lazy fade away jumpers instead Josh Hart..

Wizards and Pacers even in the win Column

Knicks may end up with the 1st pick in round 2

    Pascal Siakam -37 points

Helps the Knicks didn’t have to play against him the last two games

Cam Thomas being waived by the Bucks. No surprise, but does he even have a market at all?

Unfortunately, this has to be a mental health issue. He must purposely break every play Rivers draws up and does whatever he wants both on and off the court.

If I was a season long tanking team GM next season like Pacers were this year, – I would sign him to a 2yr- $10m deal with team option on 2nd year and let him run the entire offense ala James Harden back in Houston. Make him the entire offensive system by surrounding him with offensively challenged players that don’t want to shoot that much anyway. Guaranteed to put butts on seats and simoultaneously lose a ton of games. Same as Alan Iverson.

When he averages 30+ppg at the end of 1st season, – trade him for draft picks to a greater fool.

The mistake teams make is to try to change him.

Guaranteed to put butts on seats and simoultaneously lose a ton of games. Same as Alan Iverson.

Yes, the 76ers famously lost a lot of games with Allen Iverson. Very similar player to Cam Thomas.

that should be some kind of fantasy contest/game/betting thing director – who can put together the absolute least effective (towards winning) roster…

throw yabu and sochan in there, lots of other good candidates around the league…

thanks rama, was thinking the same, but, only had the energy to say fuck it to myself though…

despite the whole cultural phenom thing, always thought AI was a really gritty baller, and winning type player…

I tend to give extra credit to some of the less bigly nba players who make/made their living at the rim…

Yes, the 76ers famously lost a lot of games with Allen Iverson. Very similar player to Cam Thomas.

lol…talking about the role on offense and usage in the mid 30s with TS% below 50. AI was surrounded by guys who hated to create their own shot but loved to rebound and defend.

GMs on season long tanking teams should worry about identifying perfect role players instead of finding and developing their own all star.

Identify and lock in on multiyear below market contracts the Mitch, Hart, Deuce, Diawara and OG types first and then figure out a way to sign/trade for a Brunson or a KAT. Until then use a Cam Thomas type as a placeholder, max his value and cash him out for picks. Hope this helps.

I’m expecting some moves over the summer to create cap space. They don’t have room even to pay Diawara what he deserves if they bring everyone back and they will probably have a first round pick to pay also. I say probably because León has been known to trade picks.

    “Hope this helps”

Because of the condescension, I’ll give a more complete reply:

talking about the role on offense and usage in the mid 30s with TS% below 50

AI averaged a TS% above 50 for his career. In his best year, it was .518. That year, league average was….518. He also led the league in usage that year, at 35.9. So with the highest usage in the league, his TS% was league average. That’s…valuable.

Cam Thomas’s best overall season, his TS% was .554. League average was .571. A bit under average. And his usage was 30.5% – a lot, but not near the league leader. So not quite as valuable. Still, in that one sense they are similar: relatively high usage and moderate efficiency.

But there seem to be other aspects of the game to consider–their other stats aren’t in the same universe. AI’s VORP was 6.1 (!) and his BPM was also 6.1. Cam’s VORP was .4 and BPM was -1.2. The crazy amount of minutes at that high usage had something to do with it, but it’s also that AI had higher assists and steals. He was significantly more valuable on offense, and ok on defense…which is great compared to the abysmal traffic cone Cam is.

So the result of your suggestion would not be great tanking seasons with lots of losses, but mediocre seasons that would make it difficult to draft well. Ironically, you’d already have the “Brunson or KAT” player, the centerpiece all-star you think you’d be looking for, so you COULD actually fill out the roster with role players and go to the Finals…as the 76ers did. But the idea that AI would allow you to lose lots of games so you could build with role players and then trade him for a “Brunson-type” is just bizarrely clueless.

Rama, my apologies if that came accross condesending…really was trying to be helpful is elaborating that I wasn’t comparing AI with Cam Thomas as equal talents, cultural phenoms, character, mental toughness, grit or even shooting efficiency.

I was simply saying that the best way to tank (i.e. loose games) and build a contender is to get a high volume, low efficiency scorer who has the capacity to put up 30+ ppg for dirt cheap (~$5m) like Cam Thomas. Talk only about Cam all season and how you believed in him from day one to build up his narrative and stock.

In reality, focus on development of players 3-9. Lock them in contractually…3&D wings, vertical threats, rebounders and rim protectors. Before it’s time to pay him, dump him for draft picks.

If there were 2 or 3 offensive minded players who are trying to get paid for points & can get their shots off, – then it becomes a problem and doesn’t work.
