Great to see IQ rounding into form after a slow start. He can still play for my basketball team anytime he wants.
Yes, on a slow snow day at the office I messed around with the trade machine trying to find a sensible way to make that happen. No, it does not really make sense for anyone involved.
Yeah that trade doesn’t make sense for us at all, imho.
it shows kat at “post scorer” oh so *thats* what that is it looks more like barreling towards the hoop and then whatever happens happens
What can I say about that trade other than that it sure is legal under the trade rules
Imagine that same Portland-Milwaukee-NY mock trade floating around but with Jrue Holiday instead of Grant. I know that would have Portland, whose involvement made little sense with Grant, giving up even more.
But still, IMAGINE?!
It’s always best to judge a trade on a few good games this year. Good analysts
Clearly the Kings would be making out the best in that trade.
Jerami Grant was pretty good for a while, what happened to him?
Yes, on a slow snow day at the office I messed around with the trade machine trying to find a sensible way to make that happen
come on dude, be realistic
It would be basically impossible for me to oppose whatever we needed to do to make this happen.
I’d throw in some golden eagles and silver dollars to make that happen.
Since we’re all debating hairbrained ideas that work in the trade machine, here’s mine:
Knicks get:
Giannis
Sims
Bucks get:
RWIII
Grant
Thybulle
Blazers get:
KAT
Yabu
Bucks also get firsts and swaps from Blazers and the fugazy picks from Knicks. Bucks would have to waive Thanasis. If that’s not enough for the Blazers, maybe Deuce instead of Yabu, although that leaves us thin at the 2.
Mikal doesn’t work in the spotrac trade machine until 2/1 so I couldn’t consider trades with him in it…
unlike Alien Earth or Fallout season 2, don’t seem to mind at all consuming one episode at a time for The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms…
I’ve read through the dunk and egg tales a few times…at the time I was in to the westeros stuff I really enjoyed the tone switch from the song of ice and fire stories…
a lighter more relaxing mood, not so much focus on the endless drudgery of describing each sigil in minute detail…
the jousting scene shown last night was pretty intense…can’t wait to see how they portray a wild tourney melee…
it was funny, in the “behind the scenes” stuff after the episode one of the executive producers sharing some insights on the show looked to be about the same age as cooper flagg…what a great gig to get so young…
“If that’s not enough for the Blazers, maybe Deuce instead of Yabu, although that leaves us thin at the 2.”
also because giving up duece is giving up an important player while giving up yaboo is giving up someone who should never see the floor again
I’ve got a beanie baby collection that’s going to be worth tens of dollars any day now, happily throw that in too
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/47723485/nba-trade-deadline-giannis-tiers-draft-picks-players-29-teams-offer-bucks
from that article:
New York Knicks
Deal difficulty: 8/10. New York’s one tradable pick likely won’t convey, so any Antetokounmpo offer will require a star.
Like the Wolves, the Knicks are light on draft assets and heavily into the apron and its financial limitations. The Knicks’ lone non-swap first-round asset is a 2026 top-eight-protected pick that will likely stay with the Wizards in June.
And because it is over the first apron, New York is not allowed to take on more salary than it sends out in a trade. That would leave the front office with the option of swapping Karl-Anthony Towns straight up or packaging a combination of OG Anunoby, Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges. (Note: Bridges cannot be traded until Feb. 1.)
Apron status: $148,358 below the second apron (hard capped)
Draft assets:
First-round swaps in 2026, 2030 and 2032
2026 first-round pick (via Wizards, top-eight protected). Note: In the likely scenario the first does not convey, New York will have Washington’s 2026 and 2027 second-rounders.
Contracts:
Restrictions: Mikal Bridges ($24.9 million, player option 2029, signing Feb. 1)
Free agents: Mitchell Robinson ($12.9 million, UFA 2026), Guerschon Yabusele ($5.5 million, player option 2026), Landry Shamet ($2.3 million, UFA 2026), Jordan Clarkson ($2.3 million, UFA 2026), Mohamed Diawara ($1.3 million, RFA 2026) and Ariel Hukporti ($1.95 million, RFA 2026)
Off the board: Jalen Brunson ($34.9 million, player option 2028)
Rookie scale contracts: Pacome Dadiet ($2.8 million, RFA 2028)
Notable: Karl-Anthony Towns ($53.1 million, player option 2027), OG Anunoby ($39.6 million, player option 2028), Josh Hart ($19.5 million, Team 2027), Deuce McBride ($4.3 million, UFA 2027) Note: Anunoby and Brunson have trade bonuses.
hell yes to twons straight up and hell no to anunobie heart and mikhail straight up that would be one the dumber things we could do og should be off the table
why is there an nba game on early monday afternoon…
ah, the bad weather situation…
Old Doogie to new Doogie: “It’s Anunoby, Hart and Mikal, but you already know that”
I’ve said it a couple times, but since we’re talking about it again, Giannis would be an off-season move when we can trade this year’s draftee and our newly tradable 1st that’s 7yrs out.
+ KAT
+ McBride or Mikal*
+ 2026 NYK 1st
+ 2033(?) NYK 1st
+ 2026 WAS 2nd
+ 2027 WAS 2nd
+ All Pick Swaps +
+ Smorgasbord of Other 2nds
+ Draft Rights to Random 40 year old
*Deuce will have 1 season left before he gets a lot more expensive. We trade him or Mikal or possibly lose Deuce as a lux tax casualty
Not sure that gets it done but a heck of a lot more likely than the garbage we can offer this season.
all of this is worrisome for a guy whos more likely to play 60-65 games per season going forward than 75 games sounds like something we might regret mightily regardless of win curve
In the realm of things that could actually happen in the next two weeks, there have been some reasonably credible Sochan rumors. The idea is the Spurs might be more inclined to see if they can salvage Yabu than to play out the contractual string with Sochan, who is basically out of the rotation. We’d throw in Dadiet too for salary purposes, but maybe the Spurs see something in him too, even if that “something” amounts to little more than “he can speak French with our franchise player.”
I liked Sochan a lot during his draft, and there have been a handful of positive signs in the NBA. But since his jump shot hasn’t come along at all he’s mostly flopped. Still, if all it costs is Yabu, Dadiet, and a non-WAS 2nd I’d roll the dice. We could use some young blood in general, and he’s nominally a backup big.
I think Sochan would be an excellent placeholder on the current roster, and has some positives as both a situational and emergency rotation player. Maybe getting humbled by being completely out of the rotation in SA might jumpstart some maturity in his development. He definitely has some nice tools for his size and athleticism.
I don’t know, Noble, Sochan kind of sucks and I tend to trust the Spurs in terms of personnel assessment (and he’s averaging 13 minutes a game for them and been DNP in almost half). He’s also shot 28% from three for his career. I’d trade Yabu and Dadiet for almost anything, but it’d be nice to get something actually useful back. Feels Clarksonesque.
giannis only averages like 65 games a year, no guarantee he’ll ever be fit come late spring…
and he’s only 31, very hars to sustain the level of physicality he plays with…
dude’s got a tremendous upper body but chicken legs for wheels…
jeremy sochan looked like he had never played organized basketball before getting to the spurs…
then we he got there Pop let him know that he was their point forward and told him to just go out there and have some fun…
Pop was totally down for the tank…spurs looked like they were playing rec league ball for a while…
clever like a fox this darn spurs are…
Raven, Sochan is only 22 and has a great motor. He can dribble and pass a bit, and is a pretty good rebounder and defender. He can also finish. Obviously he is not a 3PT marksman, but neither is a guy like Dyson Daniels.
Not my first choice as a Yabu replacement, but at least his contract expires and we would have his RFA rights in case he shows something. Anything is better than having Yabu on the books next year.
https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2026/01/knicks-reportedly-targeting-sochan-alvarado-missi.html
Hoopsrumors claims we are interested in Sochan, Missi, Alvarado and possibly Naji Marshall, But Marshall is likely to be too expensive.
can we get a stretch four in here who can shoot a 3 pretty decently this shouldnt be that difficult
can we bring back less salary: yabu for sochan?
every article i read lists yabu jelly as a huge free agent bust – how the heck is the front office supposed to get anything but trash back with that kind of pr out there…
stupid gm or coach who thinks he can get more out of him based on last season these guys all have big egos and we only need one stupid one with a big ego
The Spurs spent the 9th overall pick on Sochan and did put a lot of time into his development. I’d say if they make a trade like this it’ll have more to do with some unfortunate timing than them truly giving up on him–they just got good sooner than they expected and have more polished depth at his position(s). Combine that with having to make a decision on his next contract and it’s analogous to the situation we found ourselves in with Obi.
If Sochan can play defense I guess it’s not too terrible to take a shot at someone who’s 6’8″ and 230 (although why the Spurs are so down on him is still a question).
let’s hope so doogie, we don’t really have any draft assets to make up for that signing mistake…
will probably end up costing us a young player, and having to take back someone we don’t really want…
also doogie, please refrain from bringing any one’s family members in to the discussion…
it’s like the lowest, lamest, intelligence challenged way to trigger/attack someone online…
try to think: is this something I would say within arm’s reach of this other human – prior to typing and sending it…great rule to follow…
what you said certainly would have caused me to want to behave in a very venomous way…
yeppers…
Edit: and maybe stop following the news so closely…plan, prepare, and support those close to you as best you can…leave the worry alone…
those who serve on the community level are truly remarkable souls…
it comes down to there are some things about having sochen on our roster that could be helpful to us (big body athleticism some versatility in skillset etc) and others that would not be helpful to us (cant shoot a lick etc) but the fact of the matter is that if we got him for only yaboo and dadier it would be worth a shot because were not using those guys anyway
that said i do not want to trade koleck away with shammets return we stopped using him but we really shouldnt have and i hope that we can find our way back to giving him some run again
Sadly I find myself in agreement with Doogie re Kolek. Although I was QUITE glad he got zero run against Maxey and Edgecombe. It’s important not to put young people in situations where they are pretty much guaranteed to fail.
We’re over the first apron, so we can’t go over 110% of Yabu’s contract. Sochan is $7M per year and Yabu is $6M.
I wouldn’t know if I’m in agreement with Doogie about Kolek or anything else because I skip all of his posts, but while I enjoyed his rotation stint and wouldn’t mind seeing him get another, the math doesn’t really work if Shamet is going to continue to be Exhibit 9 Ray Allen.
Twitter has reminded me that today is the 19 year anniversary of Jamal Crawford’s 52 pt masterpiece vs the Miami Heat.
Yeah Noble, I just plotted out exactly how it could work, and when I was done my self-satisfied self noticed that I’d forgotten Shamet entirely. So I guess you’re right, until someone gets dinged.
Can someone explain how Shadeur Sanders is a pro bowler?
Nah, don’t bother, I don’t think I want to know the answer.
replacing drake maye because super bowl obviously they could have gotten someone better than sanders but at this point since no one cares about the game anyway it became just a way to try to get more eyes on it
Here’s the thing about Sochan: it’s not the Spurs giving up on a 22 year old. It’s the Spurs realizing that the last thing they need on a team with Wemby is a great defensive forward who can’t shoot.
The Obi shout is a great call. He didn’t suck, he just didn’t fit.
That’s a great trade if we can pull it off. We’re talking about Yabu & Dadiet here. Beggars can’t be choosers.
What happened with Kolek was kind of predictable, once a player plays enough meaningful minutes in consecutive games, teams start scouting him and look for weaknesses to exploit. Then it’s up to the player to counter-adjust. Seemed to me like Kolek had hit a wall in that sense, and then lost some confidence. My guess is that he’ll be given more opportunities once he comes up with some counters.
this is specifically for geo since he seemed to be genuinely and sincerely bothered by something someone on here said and since he is one of the nicest and most reasonable people on here (there are others) he deserves direct interaction and i respect him enough to want to share my feelings on it with him otherwise please feel free to skip
“please refrain from bringing any one’s family members in to the discussion…it’s like the lowest, lamest, intelligence challenged way to trigger/attack someone online…try to think: is this something I would say within arm’s reach of this other human – prior to typing and sending it…great rule to follow…”
geo i really dont know what anyone on the forum said to raise your ire but speaking for myself only i definitely did not say anything about anyones family members i only said that i dont believe that three specific posters have women in their lives if they are going to use (or excuse the use of) the c word in addition to that if they can feel free to disavow that my very real girlfriend exists then i am certainly within my rights to similarly not believe them when they say that they have wives or girlfriends especially since they are ok with using that word in the end all i did was doubt the existence of people external to this forum but since its already been done by others on here towards me its unfortunately been accepted as ok behavior by the way i was posting to three very specifically named ungentlemen and to no one else lastly yes i would have said the same thing to those same specific people if they were standing in front of me
again none of that yesterday disparaged anyones family for me it was all about the use of the c word which is one of the most abhorrent terms in the english language (whether american or british) full stop if one actually does have a woman in their lives they should re-consider before they use it as all it does is denigrate their own loved ones
anyway i thought all of that was done and “put away” yesterday so not quite sure why it is now coming up again today but since you were clearly bothered by something someone said i wanted to give you my take
i hope you have a great evening geo
okay doogie, i understand there can be some contentious back and forth taking place…
moving forward…
From Stein:
Jrue Holiday really looked like he was declining last year, and was part of the reason for the Celts’ collapse in that series. But that dude is an all-time bad-ass winner, and a HOF great guy to boot. I’d really have to look carefully at his play and health.
Jrue as a more fcuntional PJ Tucker tough vet presence seems like a strong add at this point.
Yeah but PJ was on a minimum deal, while Jrue is owed starter’s money for the next two years after this, assuming he exercises his player option at age 37. I guess if he’s the bait that hooks Giannis, whatever, but still…
True that. Just wildly attracted to his demeanor on court and off. We could use a shit ton of demeanor. Cunting stats be damned.
