You know, when the team was playing horribly our bench seemed bad too, but in this game, the bench looked very good. I’m not convinced our bench is bad ( except maybe Yabu)
When healthy we don’t have bad bench. But we don’t have much room for error
Bill Simmons had a very good analogy about our roster construction on his latest podcast. He compared going all in on wingstop to an NFL defense with two great cover corners that can’t stop the run or pressure the QB.
I heard one other great idea I’ll share, but I can’t remember who said it…
The idea is that once you are a Thibs team, maybe it’s really hard to be not a Thibs team.
We can debate whether the minutes is optimal or not, but the idea is once you’ve committed to it it’s who you are. No matter what kind of work you do, if you do it intensely and over the top for a long period of time you adapt to it. And if you suddenly switch to working half days it can feel like you let go of the rope.
Maybe Al’s Mike Malone idea should be given serious consideration.
It wasn’t a real serious idea I was just thinking of the most accomplished currently available head coach to throw out there and add fuel to the fire.
Now in the offseason if the playoffs are a disaster and they decide to fire Brown then yeah I think Malone should be strongly considered.
Does a 54-point win count as a ‘fun game’? If so, that was a fun game.
Very glad to see Kolek get a little run there, and I’d like to see more of that, more regularly (and not just in junk minutes). However, I’ll be honest that our next game may not be a good time to give him burn, as burn might well be the word of choice.
In some ways Saturday’s game against Philly might be the biggest game of the season for us. Was the Nets game a sign that we’re starting to get our shit together, or just a beatdown of a really bad team?
I’m sure Philly will have everyone available, teams almost never rest stars vs. the Knicks. Also, they’ve beaten us twice this season already, so you’d think we’d be motivated. We shall see…
Yeah Philly on Saturday will be a real test. On the road, good team with a fast backcourt but we are fully healthy and hopefully energized from Brunson’s pep talk and the beat down we gave the Nets.
Kicking Clarkson out of the rotation definitely helps. I do think Kolek still deserves some regular, non garbage time burn.
Hubs, interesting idea bout trying to change from a Thibs team.
I would posit that they can change but maybe Brown has been too big of a change?
Like we wanted a coach who would play the bench more, experiment with line-ups, play a more modern, shoot more 3’s offense and maybe not prioritize winning every single regular season game so much. These were all valid critiques of Thibs even if some people harped on them too much.
But maybe Brown has gone too far in the other direction? It’s good to experiment with line-ups and give the end of your bench more PT, but you do need a set rotation.
It’s good to pull the starters out when you’re up (or down) 20 and there’s 8 minutes left in the 4th vs. waiting until there’s 2 minutes left. But you can’t treat regular season games lightly.
It’s good to shoot more three’s and try to play with more pace and sharing, but the team might still be better suited for a slower pace that is more half court.
Some sprinkling of changes and tweaking was needed but Brown might have gone too far. Injuries have also played a part. I’m going to take the high road and say the Dallas game was just an unlucky confluence of the team playing poorly/in a funk but also Brunson coming back, Josh still being a little rusty, etc.
that was definitely a landry shamet kind of game id like for him to do that more often in games that are actually competitive
The guy just missed like 2 months and was playing well before he got hurt. Maybe we give him a chance to get his timing down and sea legs
I read that Clarkson may also be on the block. I’m not sure what we can get for him if he can’t stick on the Knicks bench, but I’m happy Shamet is back and looking good. IMO he’s clearly a better player than Clarkson even if he can’t create as well. Most of what Clarkson creates is not very good anyway. Shamet is also the better defender.
Not a very good off season for Leon if we move on from both Clarkson and Yabu.
usually better to cut losses rather than doubling down on them
I think there’s something to be said about trying to accumulate players that fit a coach’s style or system. We may have underestimated that when it comes to going from Thibs to Brown, but I don’t think it’s just a Thibs thing. You can’t just flip a switch and say play faster or play more physical or shoot more 3s or switch on defense etc.. You have to have the right players.
I’m not sure why they would trade Clarkson or Yabu unless it’s a favor to them. They are not going to get much for either Yabu or for Clarkson so there’s not much value in trading them for any other reason. Like when they traded Sims, they did get someone back, but it seemed like the real motivation was that Sims wasn’t as good as Hukporti and wasn’t going to get minutes so they sent him somewhere better for him.
I feel bad for Clarkson, when he came into the game towards the end he was pressing (I assume to prove he still belongs in the rotation) and in my evaluation couldn’t get it done. I think he’s genuinely tried to fit into the team all year, but it’s not his game.
His usage has dropped to 21.6% on the year, which isn’t a bad number, but if you don’t need or get the 28% usage he had in his best years, then you probably have better options than Clarkson.
woke up this morning with an incredible urge to smash the sofa…
I think you trade Yabu and/or Clarkson because the Knicks could really use an option if someone like Shamet goes down again. You’ll need to throw in a 2nd, and we do have a decent number of non-WAS 2nds to spend.
Snagging this year’s Delon Wright — Alvarado is a name that’s been thrown around — would be a nice insurance play.
Doing alright geo?
Could we technically stretch Yabu if it came to that? Idk if you can do that with a player option contract.
Edit: he meant sex, EB, Vance style.
He’s not wrong, but what are the alternatives when your PG is one of the worst defenders in the league at his position.
You either play Mitch at C instead of Towns to mitigate the problem further and live with some spacing and FT issues or you live with the problem on defense with Brunson/Towns. Another problem is that Mitch is not always available and Towns is not as potent on offense at PF.
Brunson always was and always will be a problem defensively. You have to try to build around him with plus defenders, but it’s not so easy because you also need another #2 caliber scorer. #2 caliber scorers that can also defend at a plus level don’t grow on trees.
I think maybe we may have gotten a little off topic yesterday with the overall jon hamm adoration…good looking human to be sure…
though, it was the exact look in Baby Driver in that specific role that really set him at the pinnacle of personal appearance…similar to antonio banderas in that specific character role in Desperado…
there are a lot of attractive (not really true as a percentage of total pop, but add them all up around the globe and there’s a bunch) – but it took a whole team of folks to get those two gentlemen to look that damn good on those days of shooting…
moments in time that can never be repeated…stuck in my head though…
yep, just to experience antonio’s beautiful flowing locks or Jon’s absolutely perfect 5 o’ clock shadow…ah, magnificence…
That’s how I feel about KAT & Mikal 🤣
But hey let’s give it more time. We’ve only been saying that since they got here.
According to this, we’d still pay Yabu his full salary this season, then next season would pay half his salary and the other half 2 seasons out. Waiving him this off-season would give us the same result in the exact same payments: full this season and half the next 2 seasons.
Basically it doesn’t help us at all this season unless we need the roster spot, which we don’t have the cap space to use anyway. The last couple days of the season it would probably be a viable option on order to bring McCullar and another player to the playoffs.
howdy EB, doing very well sir…I hope your day is well too 😊
had a good run from san jose to back home…took about 7 hours total to split, go pick up the pooch and drive back home…at the end of the 7 hours was in bed under the covers and waiting on some food to warm up…
one of my recent therapy goals has been to drive a whole lot safer…anxiety and paranoia raise my awareness level fairly well, just have to work on moderating my levels of aggression, not feel so “competitive” when i’m on the road…
right now watching this tube channel called: pillars of the past, where this dude is down in peru with someone local to visit an unregistered monolithic site…beautiful place, hard to imagine trying to breathe there…
oh yeah – curious EB, are you still working or sort of retired? actually just wondering where you are age wise mostly…
The alternative is one great wing and a rim protector instead of two great wings and KAT, kinda like when we had a top 10 defense in 2024 with Jalen Brunson (and OG only played 23 games for us that year).
and, to any and all reading, I know i can ask some weird personal shit from time to time, my filter doesn’t always work that great…
no worries, about feeling the need to answer any questions, I already understand…
i personally dont adore jon hamm in any way shape or form
wonderful were tied with toronto for 3rd/4th seed
Geo, did Clarence hack your account this morning?
Bridges still leads the Knicks this season in BPM.
totally different writing styles between geo and clarence although i guess todays sentiments are a little bit similar to each his own #117postssincepromisingtoneverpostagain is evbuomwan still on our roster
I had the chance to sit and speak with clarence pags, very very cool…also had the chance to spend some time with hubie…
hopefully at some point I can gather the courage to head out to where some of you all live…
mission first, people always pags…
clarence pags would be quite the hybrid personality
and my bad, it’s a megalithic (pre-history structure(s) using stonework) site…
monolithic just means really big stones…
thats the misstep you chose to clarify lol nice geo 22-26 inches of snow purportedly coming this way over the weekend ho hum cavs beat hornets shooting 8 for 40 from 3 20 percent
then again charlotte shot 8 of 47 from 3 17 percent so there you go
been a bit unplugged from the news while visiting, saw that national weather map thing last night…wow, lot’s of folks will be affected…
stay safe doogie and everyone…
thanks geo i never worry about weather stuff i know a lot of people who freak out but im not one of them the weather is going to do what its going to do if were going to go get someone from memphis forget jjj and focus on jock landale 18/10/3 per 36 on 52 percent fg and 40 percent 3fg
I suspect half the accounts on here are really just geo doing some performance art
im for sure just geo doing performance art you figured it out
had no idea that cole anthony was languishing on the bucks
Sort of like your writing style is totally different from Downtown Doogie Brown, eh?
cant speak to that no idea what that style is/was like but definitely geos is starkly different than that of clarence geo writes in a long drawn-out way with many para returns while clarence usually writes in one-sentence bursts cant really get much different
The other pitcher the Mets got in the Peralta trade, Tobias Myers, is a legit major league pitcher, and is a really interesting player.
Myers had a long journeyman kind of minor league career but stuck it out and made the majors in 2024, pitching effectively for the Brewers in their rotation. He has the trait known as Induced Vertical Break which has become a term that’s in vogue over the last few years, it basically means because of his arm angle his fastball appears to sink less than a typical fastball. Tim Lincecum was the classic example of this kind of pitcher, and Trey Yesavage and Jonah Tong are also high IVB pitchers.
Anyway, Myers’ fastball has pedestrian velocity, but his fastball plays up because of this. He had been pairing it with a circle change really effectively in 2024, and had a good season: He threw 138 innings and had a 3.00 ERA.
In 2025 he struggled a bit out of the gate because he lost the feel for his circle change, so he ended up doing another lengthy stint in the minors and learned a different offspeed pitch: a splitfinger change. This pitch paired with the high IVB fastball turned out to be a winning combination, a sort of Temu version of Trey Yesavage’s two-pitch fastball/split combo.
When he returned to the majors he pitched out of the pen and was very effective. Myers throws four pitches and has shown an ability to log innings, so he’s potentially another rotation option if some of the Mets from last year don’t bounce back. He’s under team control for a while too, until 2030.
I can attest that Geo is awesome. I look forward to hanging again.
I usually write a lot, Doogie. Then I get intense anxiety that all my words are bad and don’t like me. Then I erase them. Then I try to say it without all the words because I’m in a room full of people much smarter than me. Yall can figure it out. Or not. Doesn’t affect the wins and losses coming down the pike.
you seem majorly intelligent clarence
Just extreme adhd with a healthy dose of autism. Average intelligence with ravenous pattern recognition and a supercharged libido.
can you explain your pattern recognition thing sounds interesting
I’m not a doctor
lol thats ok i didnt mean the clinical aspects i really just meant the manifestation of it
I can immediately smell big dick energy in a conclave of peckers.
I suspect half the accounts on here are really just geo doing some performance art
half. many years ago, yes. you know it’s just you and us in here now. our feelings for you haven’t changed, EB.
went through the different post games: MB, jalen, KAT, josh, and deuce (so cool all the time)…
landry also got a chance to get some words heard…
was asked the difference in the team performance in that game and previous ones, cited: connectivity, physicality, setting the tone, dictating…landry listens well to the coach…more landry please…
josh spoke of landry’s impact as a point of attack defender…never really thought much of him as a good defender, particularly a point of attack defender…
I guess on our team he is…
january doldrums very different than january knicks 2024
Knew it.
Shamet is a good example of a guy who physically isn’t big and he’s not gonna wow you on defense, but he gives maximum effort, stays in front of his man (for the most part) and he doesn’t do anything stupid, so he can help raise the overall team defense when he’s on the floor.
Not sure what’s worse stopngo traffic on the HRD or this thread
It’s just Doogie domming the rest of you cucks with his advanced knowledge of hunks named Jock.
that was actually me but yeah i definitely agree that todays thread mostly sux
Yeah when we win the threads are usually not as good.
“that was actually me but yeah i definitely agree that todays thread mostly sux”
because mostly you
I’ve been interested in Jock for a few years.
Don’t really buy his 3pt shot being 40% based on this & last season. It’s not that big a sample when it comes to 3PTers and he’s at 67% FTs in 85 attempts this year.
His 2yr RAPM & EPM defensive numbers are abysmal but his 3yr & 4yr RAPM and DARKO are average.
Would be interested in throwing him at the end of the bench to see if he can be useful.
Unfortunately, an $8M contract might be just out of our price range without some serious Aller magic. We can package Dadiet & Yabu to meet the trade rules, but then need to meet the 14 player roster minimum since we’ll be left with only 13 players. I’m not sure we can do that.
If the package is Yabu & Dadiet for Landale, then using every trick I can think of at the moment, I think we’re short of making it work by the insanely small amount of around $5,000. Idk, Aller can probably bamboozle Adam Silver, like Bugs Bunny escaping Elmer Fudd, to make it all work.
If Shamet starts instead of Hart, opposing teams will immediately start guarding KAT with their center. Everyone will have to rebound a little more but it opens up the floor and you dont loose much on defense. Hart, Deuce and Mitch solidify the bench production and they cooking again.
Our 20mpg, 42% FG, 33% 3pt shooting microwave offense only experiment may have ended with an F grade.
““that was actually me but yeah i definitely agree that todays thread mostly sux”
because mostly you”
lol i literally did nothing wrong you just hate me for no reason but im used to it at this point have a great evening raven
Why would Memphis co-conspire to bamboozle Adam Silver for garbage?
The only good thing about Doogie’s little rebrand is it’s easier to skip his posts now
My guess is we’re “shopping” Clarkson as the salary we add to Yabu in a trade for a player making around $7M (or more, depending on whether we add Dadiet or whoever else).
The guy has hardly impressed, but I’m a little surprised given how barren our shot creation could get if KAT continues to flail, both literally and figuratively.
Similarly, it was reported the Knicks were talking KAT trades with Charlotte. How come nobody has posted about all of the great players potentially bound to NYC from NC? Collin Sexton, Josh Green, Grant Williams, and Pat Connaughton works in the trade machine!
Hello, you’re the only guy here that doesn’t want to do Jon Hamm
I’m thinking they’re the salary cap 3rd team dump to make a trade possible for a draft pick compensation. That’s all.
That would be trading two players for one lowering our roster to thirteen players. After that we probably won’t have cap room to add a fourteenth player, so I don’t think this deal works.
The Knicks had 28 assisted buckets, while the Nets just had 23 buckets total.
watching philly/houston play…philly is looking a lot healthier these days, embiid in particular…
nervously excited for saturday…
less and less i’m expecting any trades…maybe mo and huk can take up yabu’s minutes and landry and tyler assume clarkson’s…
If we cut Clarkson could we pick up cam Payne?
How does that work?
How many picks could KAT and, say, Bridges can fetch? Not that this is necessarily the mindset, but this is certainly a possibility. You know what I mean.
We can drop down to 13 for two weeks and sign someone for the prorated minimum, and even another guy towards the end of the season with the exact date depending on the timing. The trade would necessarily reduce our payroll by a hair.
Oddly, we’re getting a different story today:
Ian Begley said Thursday that New York has not had internal discussions about trading Towns.
the jonathan kuminga situation has been one of the odder ongoing player/coach beefs in recent memory…
Yeah, but maybe we had external conversations
Geo, didn’t mean to ignore you the other day, just busy right now. I didn’t have a boob tube for some years, but it’s become more necessary to know what’s going on, so these days I do try to keep up with shows. Not as in watching every full season, but trying to see at least a couple episodes of everything so I know what I need to know. Occasionally one hooks me and I watch the whole thing – Slow Horses, Severance, The Pitt. I got a show ordered because of the success of The Pitt. But unless something is exceptional I just watch a couple episodes.
Though my comfort food is often an episode of Deep Space 9 before bed, so there’s that…
Orlando lost at home to Charlotte by 27 pts tonight.
I’m pretty sure we’ve been seeing teams put their center on OG since Josh started punishing teams for leaving him open. That center can’t pack the paint like they could when Josh wasn’t shooting, but it still allows teams to play a wing on KAT since OG is the least threatening ball handler on the floor.
Teams aren’t going to stop putting a wing on KAT until he punishes them for doing it. It was the same with Porzingis for most of his career until he finally figured it out.
If the Knicks were talking to Charlotte about a KAT trade it has to be for LaMelo. It literally has to be bc there’s no one else who can make the math work.
The same rumor also said we were talking to Orlando. Again, let the math do the work:
KAT = $53M
LaMelo = $37M
Wendell Carter = $11M
Not sure what else needs to be included there but that’s what the shapes look like to me. I’m not a LaMelo fan but the Knicks desperately want a second ballhandler to pair with Brunson.
thanks rama, hope you are doing well today…both my sis and friend didn’t really start watching much tv ‘til later on in life…both were busy living, working and mostly just had a lot of social engagement with others…
almost everyone starts slowing down enough eventually to sit in front of a screen for some passive entertainment…
that’s neat that you have a “go to” show for relaxing…some folks don’t really like to repeat on movies and shows…for me they’re kind of like music and great for setting a mood…
ha, just started watching the good, the bad, and the ugly for like the millionth time just for that slow pace and familiar feel…
deep space nine has that comfortable star trek vibe, with usually more mature themes…
probably should have chose living life over watching tv more often…oh well…
Or maybe they were talking to Charlotte but not about KAT. OG for LaMelo works, too, and even saves the Knicks $2M which they could use to sign a player.
Yeesh, I’d probably rather have Collin Sexton, Josh Green, Grant Williams, and Pat Connaughton. LaMelo is the anti-Hamm.
wow, in a tie game the refs totally missed a rockets goaltend against the sixers (maxey drive to the basket) with a little more than a second left…
That’s a lot of minutes for the sixers front five.
good win for the sixers…hopefully the rockets come back mad and take it out on the pistons who they play tomorrow…
Grats on the show, Rama.
Not saying I necessarily want him, but unless trade machine and I are mistaken Miles Bridges plus Colin Sexton gets most of the way to a KAT deal. Adding Grant Williams or Josh Green in as well gets you enough salary to trade for KAT plus one or two of our smaller contracts like Dadiet or Clarkson.
As far as the available Hornets go, if I was to sleep with them I guess they’d rank: 1) Bridges, 2) Connaughton, 3) Grant Williams, 4) Sexton, 5) Josh Green, 6) Lamelo. I know, I know, I’m flirting with trouble choosing Bridges, Green and Sexton have that boyish “wouldn’t hurt a fly” look, but if I needed to choose one to lie in for Hamm it would have to be Bridges.
If we trade KAT’s .601 ts% for Lamelo’s .538, I might join Donnie on Mathurin Island.
Some years ago I engaged in a debate here with my other handle. It was low-level art and I quickly put my other guy to rest and fully embraced the don.
poor donnie, spends all day busting butt being husband, being dad, being whatever less inconsequential stuff is going on, comes on to knickerblogger late night to play just as everyone else is either asleep or heading in that direction…
yeah, life’s just not fair sometimes, huh 😕
old man harden and the clips are waxing that laker ass…a month from now they’ll be ahead of them in the standings…
Edit: oops, just noticed the clips are still 5 games below .500 and the lakers somehow have a better record than us…
hmmmm, maybe by the end of the season…
Late night here is 8:25pm PST. Works perfect for me:)
Was that Khanzy? He was one funny mofo.
Nah, it was someone dull and uninspired. Best left in the “Where Are They Now” file
just think donnie, cyber is already up and starting his day…
pretty cool that rama remembers…
😉 🙂
