Giddey doing a decent-looking job leading the team, Vuk being his usual massive self, Buzelis doing well so far, Huerter and Dosunmu averaging almost 15 pts/g themselves. Might be an interesting game.
Be prepared to see the game played on a grey floor.
Now that Austin Reaves is a certified star, if the Lakers are healthy come playoff time, watch out. A big 3 of LeBron, Luka and Reaves is pretty scary.
If the Knicks lose tomorrow, the combined records of the teams that will have beaten them is 10-2; give or take.
Big game tomorrow first League Cup group game!
If Deuce is out again, probably an L
Turns out the Dodgers couldn’t hit Trey Yesavage either. They’ve scored four runs in their last 29 innings.
If Deuce is out again, probably an L
Personal issues normally don’t take too long, so hope everything is alright with him and his family. Frankly, I was surprised he missed 2 games from it already.
If the Knicks lose tomorrow, the combined records of the teams that will have beaten them is 10-2; give or take.
While true, we’re also supposed to be better than all these teams. Even with the injuries I expected us to win the last two games.
My sense is that someone very close to Deuce is having some sort of health crisis. I can’t imagine it not being very serious. Wishing him and his the best.
Thinking the same, Z-Man. From what little I know, the family seems super-tight.
I think that despite the warts and ”figuring things out’ stuff, we maybe should have won those games if not for terrible shooting. Outside of the second quarter, last game we were 5-30 from three (that’s 17%). The game before that we were 28% from three (while throwing 54 shots in the general direction of the basket). Really hard to win in the NBA doing that.
Especially with no Mitch to clean up the offensive glass.
I believe it was reported that Deuce was dealing with a death in the family.
Damn, just saw that mentioned by Bondy in a NYP article.
Yeah, figured it was really bad but once in a while someone is giving birth
what do we think of jake laravia now 27 and 8 5 of 6 from 3
If your team is not shooting well from 3 for due to injuries or shot selection by certain players, maybe you should adjust the offense and attack the basket more. That goes double if you are the better team. If you are the better team you don’t want to invite greater volatility. Of course having very good 3 point shooters is part of what makes your team better, but this Knicks team is not loaded with sharpshooters.
Now that Austin Reaves is a certified star, if the Lakers are healthy come playoff time, watch out. A big 3 of LeBron, Luka and Reaves is pretty scary.
I predicted they’d have a top 2-3 offense this year (if not #1), but the defense is going to be an issue. They are counting guys like Smart and Vanderbilt to help and Ayton to finally put it all together.
I don’t know, Strat — last year we were eighth in %, which feels about right — upper middle class. Better than the Celtics and Pacers!
Right now it looks like we’re 24th. Which, you know, is not good. But if we believe in reversion to the mean, bodes well going forward..

Brunson, OG, & KAT have taken nearly half (87/179) of the team’s 3s and are shooting between.313 and .333. These are good shooters and I want them to keep shooting.

I mostly agree with you.
I think injuries have been an issue and I also think shot selection has been a problem (OG in particular so far). Shot quality is more than just whether you are open. It’s also location, how relaxed/rushed you are and whether it’s catch and shoot, step into etc.. If you tell players to shoot more 3s I think they will automatically start taking a few marginal ones they otherwise would not have taken. The offense has to generate more 3s worth taking. You can’t just say shoot more of them.
Turns out the Dodgers couldn’t hit Trey Yesavage either.
He was awesome last night but these strikes me as a deeply unearned victory lap. IIRC the argument was not “Yesavage blows” but that the Yankees helped Yesavage out greatly by swinging wildly and freely outside the zone.
Agaisnt the Dodgers, Yesavage had an outstanding 44% whiff rate. The Yankees whiffed on a ridiculous 68% of Yesavage’s pitches.
Most importantly, Yesavage had a 58.6% zone rate last night, better than Skubal this year. Against the Yankees he had a 38% zone rate, which would have ranked last in MLB by a wide margin.
It’s pretty clear Yesavage threw strikes last night, didn’t have to against Ynaks
Not sure what the definition of sharpshooters is, but if we take 36% or better as a cromulent (a word that everyone seems to agree on) 3 point shooter, we are loaded enough if we look at last year’s %ages as a proxy for this year. Of course fit Yabu at 38% while fat Yabu at 14% is a concern, but he is replacing currently out of the NBA Precious at 28%.
Going to the game tomorrow in Chicago. Also had free fifth-row tickets to last night’s Bulls Kings game due to a friend of a friend, so it’s been a fun week for basketball. This Bulls team is currently overperforming, but they definitely don’t look as mid as everyone predicted them to be before the season started. Giddey and Buzelis look to have taken a leap and they play an uptempo style with some pretty stout defense due to their size and athleticism despite Vuc being at center. They’re currently overperforming shooting, hence their record, but I don’t think they’ll be an easy out for us tomorrow. That said, I think we should win if KAT Brunson and one of OG and Mikal show up, even sans Deuce. We’ll see!
Novak is being hired as Clyde’s backup. I’d be happy enough just to have him in the building again, but I’ve also liked the announcing/media I’ve heard from him in the past.
I dread the day there’s a Clyde successor, but it seems Novak is getting an audition for it and I wish him the best.
…if our 3PT% stays at 33% much longer, maybe we also discuss a different kind of reunion.
I occasionally hear Novak on the Bucks broadcast and he’s done a good job every time I’ve tuned in. Happy for him and for the fact that I now get to listen to less of Wally.

Deuce McBride has rejoined the Knicks in Chicago, a league source tells The Post. It’s a good indication he’ll play tomorrow against Bulls.
great news underground kings and alan itll be good to have not one but two of our defensive stalwarts back when they are ready
I am giving this team 20 games like I do every year. Like we all should but many of us never do.
Otherwise, I literally can’t believe what I see when I look at Wemby’s b-ref page

That’s really splitting some hairs given the argument here was that the Dodgers have some sort of hidden ability to hit good pitching that the Yankees don’t. They’ve scored 4 runs in their last 29 innings, couldn’t hit Shane Bieber either, and were shut out for 10 innings by Toronto’s middling bullpen in game 3.
In fact, the only reason the series isn’t over already is that the Dodgers got a miracle performance from the worst pitchers in their own crummy bullpen in game 3. including four high leverage shutout innings from a guy who was walked around 7 batters per 9 innings in his brief journeyman career and has a 5.33 ERA career ERA in the MINOR LEAGUES.
The Dodgers might still come back and win this series, and in fact have a very good chance to do so, but not because they’re a much better team than Toronto. They have a good chance to come back for the same reason they’re down 3-2: this shit is essentially random when you have two relatively evenly matched teams.
Hopefully the Knicks as soon as tomorrow night will be a fully operational death star.
With Deuce and Mitch back this is going to be different team.
It will be interesting to see if Mitch can start right away (probably not), but Deuce being back is a big plus and I like Deuce starting a lot also.
Otherwise, I literally can’t believe what I see when I look at Wemby’s b-ref page
IMO, he’s in the top 3 players already. I’d make him #1 but Jokic and Shai are more proven. Just a matter of time until he’s #1. Jokic is other worldly on offense partly because of his incredible is play making and Shai is impactful on both sides, but Wemby can be dominant on both sides.
very much going out on a limb to say that wemby might be top 3 its pretty obvious
heat at spurs tonight…
yep, wemby is now must see tv…
yay
That’s really splitting some hairs given the argument here was that the Dodgers have some sort of hidden ability to hit good pitching that the Yankees don’t.
I never made that argument. In fact I pointed out the Dodgers offense was worse than the Yankees in the World Series.
I argued that the Yankees have systematically failed to hit postseason pitching for more than a decade (and I showed you the proof).
I also argued that the Dodgers have better all-around baseball players than the Yankees; that they don’t sacrifice defense, baserunning, and situational hitting to chase OPS. So they’re not completely fucked when they run into a good pitcher they can’t hit.
That’s great news on Mitch (I think!) and sounds like both Deuce (yay!) and Yabu (boo!) will be available.
These next few games should be very telling. Obviously KAT’s struggles has to be a point of emphasis in practice, so it would be nice to see him playing with more purpose and confidence.
I don’t like him at all, and he’s hurt now, but when you’re talking top players, there’s a guy averaging 46 pts, 11.5 reb, and 8.5 assists right now…
He may be #4, but it’s close.
Brunson, OG, & KAT have taken nearly half (87/179) of the team’s 3s and are shooting between.313 and .333. These are good shooters and I want them to keep shooting.
I don’t disagree, but I made a point of saying injuries matter and pointed to OG in particular as taking shots I’d prefer he not take .
Towns is clearly struggling and probably shouldn’t even be playing. When he has smaller players on him he should probably be doing work inside instead of shooting 3s, but when he’s struggling like now I’d way rather see him inside. In other situations, I want him creating space and shooting outside If we can get him good looks. Hopefully the 2 days off will help him.
I hate when coaches or the media say “they have to shoot more 3s”.
It should be, “we have to try to generate more high quality 3s that match the skills of the players on our team”.
I prefer OG in the corner with some time, otherwise he sometimes gets a little jerky with his form and throws up a lower quality shot. I want him to shoot FEWER 3s unless they can get him open from either corner or he has a ton of time from the wing.
Wemby has a block percentage of 13.8%. That means he’s blocking close to one out of every 7 2pt shot attempts. That pace would set a record by a landslide. The only guy ever to get into double-digits is Manute Bol, and his career high season was 10.8%.
Wemby is Chamberlain-esque in terms of his potential impact on the game. Maybe he doesn’t score 100 points or get 55 rebounds in game, but I could definitely see him having ridiculous games with like 20+ blocks. The current record is 15, you can kiss that one goodbye.
watching nba today…they’re going over lakers/t-wolves game, every time i watch the wolves highlights it makes me wonder why they don’t want to get antman a point guard, i don’t get it…
so reaves is about to go from 13 million a year to around 40 million, that’s got to be one of the largest salary increases ever…non-drafted to boot…
also wondering if i’ll be feeling nervous ever minute mitch plays this season…probably best to not really count too much on mitch this season…
hopefully there’s a brace/wrap that’ll help him keep that ankle fairly firm…and, the performance folks are working with him on how to reduce the potential for injury…i don’t doubt that any of the folks involved, particularly mitch himself, are doing everything they can to get him on the court and contributing on a consistent basis…
nba season to date and the theme seems to be: youth is served…
wished diawara could shoot, let josh get his finger fixed – is that even possible?!?!?!, and yabu get in nba game shape…guess kolek is sort of young, not…
Apparently Novak is coming aboard as Clyde’s backup and I am moderately excited. He’s got a surprisingly good personality as I recall. And I like they picked a role player.
I wonder if calling Hali a “fake All-Star” basically killed Wally’s shot at succeeding Clyde. Up until that point, it sure seemed like MSG was grooming him for the gig. Since then, they’ve brought in Jamal and now Novak, they’ve had Hahn do games, etc.
To me, Monica McNutt would be the ideal successor, but it sounds like she has her eyes on a more national platform.
MSG is going to have less and less games at this rate…
Seems like Monica has the right idea
Giannis sitting out tonight vs Golden St…
“I wonder if calling Hali a “fake All-Star” basically killed Wally’s shot at succeeding Clyde.”
That was incredibly dumb, I really couldn’t believe he did that. Same with Michael Kay saying stupid shit about the Jays. Why would an announcer/commentator ever give a rival team bulletin board material?
Is Ryan Rollins actually good?
On cue, he buries a dagger 3 in Jimmy’s face!
NBA bringing back the Spurs from the dead with a Human Highlight Reel is nice of them.
MSG is going to have less and less games at this rate…
For sure. All those National TV contracts just eat up local telecasts. It’s bad for fans of a particular team because it makes it very hard to watch all or most of your team’s games because you need so many subscriptions to do so. It’s good for gamblers because there is always something to bet on that is on TV. I think it’s one reason Dolan is mad at the league. The National stuff has really hurt MSG.
Is Ryan Rollins actually good?
Just what I was thinking.
Mitch questionable and Begley says likely to play. Clearly the management strategy is to only play Mitch in NBA Cup games.
