Edwards has a piece out about the ways Brown is saying he wants to adjust our offensive schemes, and he’s certainly saying the right things. The specific changes highlighted are getting Towns a wider variety of shots when he’s at the 4(including from the corner, where he only took about 7% of his FGA last season), using him as a Sabonis esque hub when he’s at the 5, and getting Brunson more looks off the ball. A very telling tidbit:

Last season, Brunson converted on just south of 50 percent of his spot-up jumpers, per NBA.com. A very effective mark. However, only 43.6 percent of Brunson’s 3-pointers were assisted last year. For comparison, that number is lower than two other ball-dominant point guards, Tyrese Haliburton (52.8 percent) and Cade Cunningham (57 percent).

These are exactly the kind of changes us frustrated Knickerblogger posters were pining for last season, but the proof will be in the pudding of course.

wow there is one instance where they actually spelled his name as randall in the article no bueno

So far I see the main difference (beyond the obvious communication style) between Brown and Thibs is that Brown will be much less turnover-phobic than Thibs was. I have no doubt that playing Towns in a point role and playing Brunson off the ball more will lead to more turnovers. But even if the net rating doesn’t improve, the team will be more interesting and fun to watch. And there will definitely be a reversion to Brunso iso’ing at the end of close games.

I won’t lie, this jumped out at me too, and I have no problem with this shtick if you limit it to the work of people paid to produce writing as opposed to some guys posting on a message board.

I also enjoyed the piece though, and it speaks to the idea that I used to find cliched and empirically dubious but am increasingly sympathetic to: New York really just isn’t for everyone, as far as professional athletes go. Definitely happy for Randle, who always struck me as a good, family oriented dude.

Very glad for Julius, sounds like he found his peace. I’m not at all surprised by the description of his time in NY, it always felt like he was miserable and seething, despite the smiles.

Also, I have arms just like his.

That’s the cause of the irritation with lazy work like Hollinger’s piece the other day – we’re going to lose wins because we don’t have slave-driver Thibs shouting on the sidelines, but can’t win more because we have a coach who takes advantage of our obvious strengths? Maybe we don’t have to grind so much if we don’t keep throwing rock vs paper over and over (to steal Hubert’s analogy). Maybe we blow out more teams. Maybe we’re also fresher not only because we have a deeper bench (something he ignores) but because we don’t play our starters until the last minute when down by 20.

    Anyway.

One thing I’m disappointed the media hasn’t produced so far is analysis of Chris Jent & TJ Saint’s work in their previous jobs. I continue to wonder if analysis of Mike Brown’s offense in Sacramento is actually just analysis of Jordi Fernandez’ work, so I’d like someone to shed light on our new assistants.

And if no one in the media is willing to do it maybe we can work together to summon our proprietary AI, ptmilo, from his slumber. Based on my past incantations, the best way to conjure him would probably be to confidently declare a bunch of wrong things about Jent first and then wait for the correction.

“Maybe we’re also fresher not only because we have a deeper bench (something he ignores) but because we don’t play our starters until the last minute when up by 20.”

there fixed it for our upcoming season

I’m likely in a minority of one but I don’t think the Randle trade looks good one year later if the plan is to start Mitch.

We sorely miss Julius’ ballhandling and Donte’s spacing. The first round pick would have been nice, too. And with about $10M in salary difference we could have added two vets for depth.

No doubt KAT > Randle but if he’s not playing C this year I’m not confident KAT > Randle, Donte, $10M in apron room, and a 1st round pick.

Facebook gave me a good laugh this morning..

The headline read “Bro saw it was Ron Artest and folded”. I knew it had to be only one clip..and I was right..

    Knicks-Raptors

    Need I say more?

    LOL

basketball is right around the corner – yay…

just finished episode 5 of alien earth, yeah that was really good stuff there, really good…

so much happened in that episode, at some point gonna need to rewatch…

you’re right hubie, I’m gonna let that one rest to digest, finish up the season maybe later tonight…

you know, not sure what my expectations were for the cypress hill show (kind of low i think) – but, one of the best opening 30 minutes of any show i can remember…performance was super crisp and clear…

I’ve been making a pointed effort to stay in more and watch some shows I’ve missed and play some games on Xbox that I’ve had for a while but never booted up. Been trying to make my way to Alien: Earth but ran into The Madness, Dead Boy Detectives, and Orphan Black on the way(really interesting btw). How is Alien:Earth? I mean- is it as good as the hype?

    1

is it as good as the hype…hmmmmm, poindexter…it may depend on your affinity for the lore and expansion of this particular universe…

is it well crafted, most definitely…similar to Legion (which surprised me with its inclusion of horror elements) the audio/visual of the show is stunning…casting and acting on point, solid direction…storyline and pacing work well for me at least…

i think the question of how good the show may be goes a good bit to individual genre preference…

i’m loving the show – my favorite aspect: the lighting…very easy to see the action…

so yeah, as a video game and comic book fanboy it’s matched/exceeded my expectations…

should have known though – noah hawley is really good at what they do…

what video games are you playing poindexter?

i got a couple of cool gamer t-shirts recently:

No doubt KAT > Randle but if he’s not playing C this year I’m not confident KAT > Randle, Donte, $10M in apron room, and a 1st round pick.

That’s a very valid point and I agree 100% with you. However, KAT will play both 4 and C. That’s the best way to use him on this roster and to defeat CLE and ORL in playoffs. Won’t be suprised if next season he goes back to C full time.

One thing I’m disappointed the media hasn’t produced so far is analysis of Chris Jent & TJ Saint’s work in their previous jobs.

Same. I feel like we haven’t even gotten much in-depth coverage of what Brown’s offense looks like and who fits where. We’re just lucky Sacramento was exceedingly good in his first year or there wouldn’t be any real information on what he ran (or his assistant at least).

No doubt KAT > Randle but if he’s not playing C this year I’m not confident KAT > Randle, Donte, $10M in apron room, and a 1st round pick.

This was one of my worries as well, and I guess still is. I was comforted a bit that we could use KAT at the 4 as a fallback and not completely ruin our chances if he couldn’t handle the defense at C, at least back when we made the trade.

I’m holding out hope that Brown can mix in some different defensive schemes this year to make KAT at the 5 more viable, and perhaps foolishly hoping KAT can actually learn them. It should at least help if Brown uses before game 1 of the Conference Semifinals.

FWIW I’ve only ever seen the original Alien movie with Sigourney Weaver and I really enjoyed the series.

It has one of the best performances by a sheep you’ll ever see. Between this and Severance, the Emmy field for Best Performance by a Bovid is going to be stacked.

It was very fun but I think almost everyone agrees it was up and down.

    Baaa-ha-ha

oh my goodness hubie…aliens 2 (director’s cut) is way better than alien…

alien 3 is dark, like visually dark, near every scene you have to squint to see what’s happening on screen…

alien 4 is simple and fun…prometheus and covenant are both visually stunning and expand on the lore a bunch…

the latest romulus was another alien 4 type and a simple and fun movie…

currently hope they pursue the “David” storyline with michael fassbender…see him become a galactic prophet, maybe multiply and head to engineer world…

the inclusion of the xenomorph in the predator universe has gone okay…fun saturday morning movies…

They are saying that Mitch lost some more weight. I was hoping for a slimmed down new version of KAT that could move a little better on defense.

Facts. Malone solved Jokiq and figured out the way to hide him in Denver during their championship run. There was a great video a couple of years ago by Thinking Basketball that detailed on how they did it.

what video games are you playing poindexter?

Well…lol..Cyberpunk still has me in a choke hold because they keep updating it. But I did finally decide to boot the Resident Evil 4 remake up. My goal is to get through that and Village in 3rd person mode before RE9 hits in February. Problem is as a growned up, it’s super hard to find the time to get immersed in a game like that. Hell..I still haven’t booted Hogwarts Legacy after buying it a little over a year ago lol

And yes…I love the Alien franchise. I try to sit and watch whenever I see one of the first 2 on TV

    1

Jokic is a surprisingly good defender, though. He can’t play drop but he defends the pick and roll well by mixing his levels and perfectly hedging. He’s basically a 7’0” Josh Hart on defense… not the best athlete but always in the right position.

He’s also a fast-processing genius. KAT is not. You can actually see KAT thinking about what he’s supposed to do on defense sometimes. He just doesn’t get it.

No doubt KAT > Randle but if he’s not playing C this year I’m not confident KAT > Randle, Donte, $10M in apron room, and a 1st round pick.

Like Early Bird..it worries me too. KAT’s a better defender at the 4 but not as good on offense. However, Mike Brown didn’t field a terrible defense with Sabonis at the 5, so maybe there’s hope. That and all the guard depth we have has me torn. I really wanna see Deuce start beside Brunson and handle the POA, but if Mitch is healthy- it’s gonna be hard to justify not starting him at the 5

Everyone knows my POV that starting Mitch is a no brainer. However, I trully struggle with his minutes…should Brown max him @ 20-22 or play him like a legit starter @ 30-32? – wonder what others think…

I also think starting Mitch is (almost) a no brainer. But I would not play him more than 25 minutes a night during the regular season.

im with walker on starting mitch and also limiting his minutes to about a half game hubie how do you know what kat is thinking about maybe hes thinking about the burger hes going to have after the game (ok same result not reacting instinctively on defense)
