Smile! It’s Media Day!
Media Media!
I had a random encounter with Leslie Bibb last night and it took a lot of willpower but I managed to avoid bragging about my loose connection to Alan through an online community of Knicks fans.
Sorry if this has been discussed ad nauseum in previous threads but I am not loving the reports of Dadiet being the likely guy out — unless they’ve seen enough to know that this is the highest his value will be. Adding Shamet/Brogdon as literally the 10th guy seems unlikely to be a real needle-mover. Team already is a bit on the non-athletic side and I would worry we’d get run out of the gym by some of the good teams out there.
I would understand if Deuce is the guy sent out – would get solid value back and as much as I love Deuce, his value right now is basically as a rotation level player on a cheap contract – a contract that is about to get more expensive. His playmaking has never evolved and I do think he’s a bit overrated as a defender, especially in the playoffs when his size limitations become very evident…
I don’t like the reports, either, Frank. But Dadiet was a weird pick for this organization in the first place. They’ve never shown an appetite for long term projects. It’s possible they only drafted him to use him in a future trade.
What I really don’t like is doing any of this for Brogdon. It’s really hard to project him being available when we need him.
That’s great to hear about Mikal…
So … I just stopped by to share some love for Ess Dog’s new (?) profile pic.
Then I clicked on Geo’s pic for a closer look at that, and a link took me to youtube for a sublime clip of Dave Brubeck playing “Take Five” (go Paul Desmond!).
I missed this place all summer.
Also, I’m very happy to hear Mikal is/was in the gym (all summer). He should want to make the All Star Team this year. I want that for him, too.
The noise about Dadiet being the top trade candidate is distressing. But it seems like those articles are saying that because he has most value to other teams and they like him for the same reasons we do. I’m hoping Knicks management also feels that way. And if you look at our roster, it’s short on people with size, which could act in favor of keeping him.
I’m not paying any mind to those rumors until after I learn more about how the players are faring in training camp. First, the rumors are all grounded in a perception of Dadiet’s value around the league being higher than Kolek’s and that dumping his salary would allow the Knicks to sign 3 vets rather than two…all probably true, but still only speculation. Second, it would seem ridiculous for Leon to make any judgments before they have data from scrimmages and preseason games…not just on Dadiet, but Kolek and all of the vet’s minimum and camp invite guys.
Well this isn’t what I wanted to hear…
…although maybe that’s more reason to keep Dadiet?
If we are fated to have an injury to a body part and to a player, the finger and Josh combo would be pretty much top of my list.
Great. So Hart’s going to shoot poorly all season.
How did he reaggravate it? That’s annoying…
If Hart has an injured finger, we should strongly consider trading Josh Hart
Why in god’s name would he play through it for an entire season instead of getting surgery, even if he’d miss time? Can our KB medical residents chime in? Makes no sense to me on the surface.
That said Hart seems like to have the same old school mindset as Thibs — Rub some dirt on it and play is better than missing any time. But if surgery means his season is over, or he misses 6 months, I can understand why he wouldn’t want to. (What I don’t understand is how come he didn’t get this fixed in this offseason?)
Watching the Josh Hart presser, it’s the ring finger on his right (shooting) hand and it looks swollen as fuck.
I’ve always had a hard time finding a good trade target for Josh. He has an $18M salary slot. We can add either Deuce’s 4.3 or Dadiet’s 2.8. And we’ve got pick swaps in 2030 and 2032.
The profile is fairly easy: a big who can rebound, defend well, and have some use on offense. But who fits it and is within our range?
Santi Aldama makes $17.5M and I am intrigued by his statistical profile but I don’t know enough about him to have an informed opinion.
A story from today’s thread in 3 acts:
He said that he DID have it fixed but he recently re-aggravate it.
What are the chances surgery and rehab would take 7 months, which is approximately when the playoffs start, and still leave him less prepared for the playoffs than jamming a ball into the finger every night?
I don’t care about Dadiet at all. I haven’t seen anything there to justify the enthusiasm.
Tough for Hart
Yeah, I mean how mangled is this finger, lol.
Josh’s finger:

Russell Wilson benched. Jaxson Dart to start.
Ronnie Lott knew what to do in this situation.
I remember another guy who played through finger issues…
My guess is that Hart does not want to be out for several months if he doesn’t absolutely have to be, and from the look of it, it looks like a multiple month deal if he went the surgical route. He will probably just do what King did and tape it to the other finger. I remember Willis Reed playing with his fingers taped together as well.
I’m also hoping that the swelling will go down because he “recently” re-aggravated it.
Even if he missed 3 full months that’s still the end of December. Not even half of the regular season.
Dude, we need ya in May and June not in October!
swift, if that were the case, he can try playing through it and if it really hampers him he can have surgery in November and be ready by the All Star break. This is a critical time for practice and gelling, probably best for him to be active now.
Wow…beat writers are terrible these days…his finger looks like a chopped beef and no one was able to report it before he showed up to media day?
Hell yeah, KBA — Poochie4EVA!
And: is it possible ‘Take Five’ is one of the best arrangements ever? Never tire of it.
Re: Hart, that sux, but at least it gives Brownie an excuse to play him less and not start him. He’ll still be useful at times when we have a fast break advantage.
Obviously, if surgery would truly require that he miss the entire season, the decision becomes much more understandable. That’s just very difficult to believe about a surgery on a single finger.
“Obviously, if surgery would truly require that he miss the entire season, the decision becomes much more understandable.”
It’s a perfectly reasonable choice that was likely made in consultation with team physicians. It’s really about pain threshold, function, and likelihood of making it worse. He just had surgery and re-aggravated it, so it seems that he could repeat the surgery but with risk of re-aggravate it later in the season. So I have no problem with the decision. NBA players play through finger issues all the time, including jammed and dislocated fingers involving damage to tendons, ligaments, and cartilage.
I’d rather Hart get surgery and miss a couple of months than have it “potentially” impact his shooting all season. We’d also get to see a lot of Deuce and Mitch as starters. Then when Hart comes back he can either play off the bench or return to the starting lineup if we have clear evidence it’s not going to work with Deuce or Mitch.
ouch!!!
tape it up…rub some dirt on it…ronnie lott the situation baby…that looks very not unpainful…
thankfully these days josh hart seems more and more like a luxury with this roster…our bench is better this year – hopefully josh can get that thing straightened out, and unswollen, ouch…
“I’d rather Hart get surgery and miss a couple of months than have it “potentially” impact his shooting all season.”
I don’t know why anyone would assume that he could just get surgery and in a couple of months it would be as good as new. Looking at that finger, it would probably be stiff and sore for many months after surgery, and probably would need to be taped or splinted for the rest of the season anyway.
So Josh Hart just had surgery, and then re-aggravated the injury, and you guys are talking like if he has ANOTHER surgery, all will be 100% ok? Hmm, i think i’m with Josh, because i don’t think i’d go for another surgery if the first one did nothing to make me better.
He’s a tough guy, let’s see if he can play through it.
at least it’s not on his shooting hand, oh wait…
Hart had surgery in July and I don’t recall hearing that he’d miss time. That’s 2 months of recovery before training camp.
This is a reaggravation of the same injury and suddenly he can’t recover in the 7 months before the playoffs?
I struggle to believe the reinjury made it significantly worse given he plans to play through it.
He had surgery on his finger in July. That is 2 months ago. That isn’t a lot of time. “Toughing” it out is going to have a low probability outcome and a crappy shooter playing with a splint on his shooting hand isn’t going to make him play better.
Get the bloody thing fixed and this time don’t try to be ready for the beginning of training camp. It is a finger injury, if he takes proper care of the hand, he can be ready to go full bore in April with a body that is at peak condition and a functional hand.
Exactly. Maybe he can’t have surgery on it right now? But seriously, even if he was out 4 months, that’s the end of January. The team can survive without him. If we can’t, we’re not as good as we think we are.
If this was the previous medical staff, I’d be worried. But we now have the top medical staff in the NBA. If they think this is the way to go, this is the way to go. I hope.
Want to hear from the FO that the medical staff and Josh are on the same page. If not, fix it now Leon.
Who knows, maybe a crooked index finger makes him shoot better.
He shot 37% in the playoffs… You might be on to something
Thomas Bryant, signed with the Cavs. So that option is officially dead.
It’s a bummer because I like him, but I think the Mets are gonna have to can Mendy. They make a ton of mental mistakes and don’t have a lot of fight. I don’t see how you can bring him back after this debacle of a year. The team isn’t playing to anywhere near its talent level.
Thanks Boston 🫡
Well that was a dumb call right there…
JK, Mets have come back and are tied at 7 in the 8th, so maybe a bit early to write off Mendoza.
Now those are likely to be famous last words…
Edit: or the Mets go up 9-7…
Boone tried his best to kill the Yankees comeback in the 8th inning but thankfully his players bailed him out in the 9th!
If the Yankees can win the division and therefore get the #1 seed I honestly believe just like last year they’ll be back in the World Series.
Nice comeback win for the Mets, still alive!
On the subject connecting Josh Hart and the Mets, about the guy who hit the big homer today:
‘Alvarez is playing through both a sprained UCL in his right thumb, which will require surgery after the season, and a broken left pinky. During the Mets’ last homestand, Alvarez took a 100 mph fastball off his left elbow and was back in the lineup the next day.’
