wow nothing really since huberts post about saquon barkley almost 16 hours ago hubert you killed knickerblogger again

    you killed knickerblogger again

That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die…

I was reading Laker fan comments about Jemison III. They didn’t dislike him and wish him luck. But they didn’t think he was a great center. He played hard and set great picks but isn’t very skilled in their opinion. I looked up his stats and compared them to Jericho Sims. Sims is better. He gets more rebounds and shoots better. So I am not expecting great things from Jemison; but to get a player who has serviceable NBA experience on a two way contract is probably a reasonable deal.

I’d probably rather have Pate on the two-way, just so we control his rights in the unlikely event he turns into something. But at the end of the day, that doesn’t matter much.

Am I understanding correctly that if we salary dump Kolek instead of Dadiet, we could sign two vets but not a rookie minimum guy? If that happens, I imagine they’ll dump one of the two-ways and give that slot to Diawara.

Going into the season, I think Hukporti has the biggest opportunity here of the non-rotation players. But as much as I think Brogdon is potentially a great pick up for us, I also think Kolek still has a chance here.

But Huk…we’re going to need one more big, regardless of whether Mitch starts or not. KAT at the 5 is a great look on offense and Mitch is a great back up, but there are going to be minutes needed at the C spot. If Huk can fill that role, it’s potentially huge.

The more I think about it, the less I like signing 2 vets. Yes, it improves our chances in “the year” but very very marginally unless injuries hit pretty hard in which case our chances have gone down considerably anyway. To dump Kolek I assume needs a sweetener like a 2nd. I don’t rate Kolek anymore but the 2nd is not worth it. And giving away Dadiet’s upside, even if we got a 2nd in return is also not worth it. Just pick the best vet and don’t get greedy in wanting the second best also.

If we salary dump Kolek, we would have room for 2 vet minimums & 1 rookie minimum. So, Diawara and 2 vets.

If we move Dadiet, we could sign 3 vet minimums. So in this scenario, we’d presumably make Diawara a 2-way and drop Evbuomwan or Jemison.

im just going to trust the guys in charge on these end of bench machinations they seem to have a good handle on it also in mike brown i trust

wow nothing really since huberts post about saquon barkley almost 16 hours ago

There’s actually a ton of off topic stuff to talk about today but Alan needs this blog right now so no one’s going there.

    “in mike brown i trust”

I have been pretty vocal in that the keys need to be in Mike’s and not the FO’s hands. But there are limits and Dadiet is a prime example. Mike has a 2 at most 3 year window to succeed or he is out. Dadiet’s development timeframe is not exactly aligned to this window.

I guess the next question is whether people prefer:

    (A)
    NBA: Dadiet
    NBA: Diawara
    2-WAY: Jemison
    2-WAY: Evbuomwan

    (B)
    NBA: Kolek
NBA: Len or Matthews or (?)
    2-WAY: Evbuomwan or Jemison
    2-WAY: Diawara

If you like B, which vet/2-way combo do you prefer?

My $.02 on all these vets: I think most of them will be available in December, too. Sure we run the risk of another team signing Brogdon or Delon but is that really a big deal?

Kolek may be worth dumping but let him play three months and be sure.

i want to keep diawara and evbu so it comes down to dadiet/jemison or kolek/mathews for me i guess ill go with pupu platter #1 it makes a lot more sense for our roster construction (i want to see yabu and evbu on the floor at the same time)

    @spotrac
The NBA does not expect to have a resolution on the Kawhi Leonard salary cap circumvention investigation until after the All-Star Game.

The #Clippers host the All-Star Game.

They aren’t necessarily the wheels of justice but the wheels of NBA circumvention investigations still grind pretty slowly.

They hired a law firm to do it. The one renowned for doing complicated financial deals in tight timeframes. Why is the timeline 5 months? Not that complicated to interview 30 or so people and 5000 pages of documents (especially in the AI age!).

i’m guessing the timeline is post-asg because the Clippers are the hosts of that event. when coupled with the fact that Silver is a Stern disciple and he has continued his legacy of pr trumping fair play, you can imagine the intent.

As I said before, I will believe they want to drive a guy worth 130 billion out of the league after it happens….

Why are people acting like the having the all star game is such a big deal for the clippers?

Even if the NBA found enough evidence to make Ballmer sell the team, taking the all star game away does almost nothing to them, and it screws up an entire planning industry whose job is already done.

Having the investigation open is going to be a bigger headache than having it complete.

If there were a conspiracy at play, they’d want to clear his name by then.

Agree Hubie, but why leak an end date, other than to not disrupt the all star preparations which I assume are important. Just say the game will occur no matter what the findings are.

The controversy over Kawhi will be omnipresent leading up to the All-Star game, driving a ton of viewers to watch the game that otherwise wouldn’t. It’s free advertising. It’ll generate more revenue for them if they delay the decision.

It makes sense to set expectations. And 5-6 months seems reasonable.

Pablo Torre can just say “$2M came in from Ballmer’s old roommate within a week of then $1.75M going out to Kawhi” and call it a day bc that’s all he needs to get clicks.

The law firm is going to do a lot more. They’re going to get all the emails from everyone. And then that’s going to open a Pandora’s box of other strings to pull. And they’re probably going to investigate 2019, as well.

I actually think the timeline seems rather quick.

Counterpoint: the NBA all star game is a horrendous product that no one likes watching, and no amount of free advertising will drive a ton of viewers to it.

And there’s a 0% chance that Adam Silver is daft enough to think having this overshadow the weekend is good for the league.

Yeah, as much as I appreciate EB’s cynical take, and despite such takes being usually spot-on in this version of the universe, I agree with Hubie that I don’t think it’ll be a great thing for the NBA as people will be writing about a (potential) scandal rather than about so-and-so’s leap to stardom — and I can’t see people tuning into the game because of that, unless they plan to announce the law firm’s decision at halftime.

if i tune in and thats a big if itll be because i think that the americans versus the world format might actually work for the first time in quite a while

I will tune in to the NBA all star game when they make it a 2v2 tournament featuring all the key phrases from NBA Jam (like “Boomshakalaka!” and “he’s on fire”).

As I said before, I will believe they want to drive a guy worth 130 billion out of the league after it happens….

    My current probability is 0%.

If there are legitimate smoking guns….

    Keith Smith
    @KeithSmithNBA
Just in case, here are the penalties when the Minnesota Timberwolves were found to have circumvented the salary cap to sign Joe Smith:

-5 first-round picks forfeited (two were returned later)
    -$3.5M fine
-Smith’s most-recent contract was voided, and his Bird Rights were stripped away
-Wolves owner Glen Taylor was suspended
-Wolves GM Kevin McHale was forced to take a leave of absence

Important to note that this happened 25 years ago. In recent years, tampering findings have resulted in the loss of second-round picks.

ugh, have just exited therapy, have self-driven brain rot and am leaking thoughts…

any one else following the wnba playoffs?

was interesting to hear recently on nba today some folks naming the loudest most fan hyped basketball arenas…someone named Duke, someone else OKC, another surprisingly named expansion franchise: Valkyries…

another person though said the new york liberty was their favorite spot…

any one else following the wnba playoffs?

They had me and lost me. It was a self inflicted loss.

i wanna find out who the best one on one player in the nba is…or, at least who’s the best among the all-stars…

scratch the game, make it a one on one tourney…let’s watch steph smoke everyone from behind the arc (2 pts), or have giannis pummel folks down around the rim (1 pt)…

who can shoot the best from three, okay…who can dunk the best, meh…

being the best one on one basketball player in the world – that’s like owning the heavyweight boxing title…well, maybe not these days, still cool to see who’s the best when there can only be two at a time on the court…

maybe wemby would be king…maybe luka, KD, lebron, giannis, ant man, shai…

competition like that, which would be intense, would be absolute 🔥

    1

It was a self inflicted loss.

never too late to start again…

was listening to this marvelously country sounding tibetan buddhist monk fella describing how he awakes: oh look, i am alive, how nice…

that’s an infinite possibilities mindset right there…

who can shoot the best from three, okay…who can dunk the best, meh…

thinking about it – both these events plus the sort of passing competition are all way more exciting and enjoyable when occurring during a game…

one on one is the game…what a change if we set the pace, face to face

Pick 4 all stars – 2 guards, 2 big men.

Make them play a quarter of basketball against 5 g-leaguers and see if they could win.

Eight strikeouts and no walks for Jonah Tong in a high pressure game was a sight for sore eyes if you’re a Mets fan. Great bounce back performance after getting pummeled in his last outing. He gave up some hard contact but also got a lot of whiffs with that fastball. If he can refine his breaking stuff a little, that 70 grade fastball will play up even more. Hitters are sitting on it and today they couldn’t really hit it.

It’s pretty crazy considering the expectations for both teams coming into the season that the Mets and Dodgers are most likely gonna face each other in a Wild Card series.

As I said before, I will believe they want to drive a guy worth 130 billion out of the league after it happens….

Assuming its all true and even worse + there is enough proof collected, this dirtbag is the perfect owner to set a precendent for.

    Stay in the league?

Sure, but you get hit with a THREE BILLION DOLLAR fine + 3 FRP. It doesn’t hurt him as there will be $127B still left in his portfolio but it will effect the future behaivor of other owners.

the Mets and Dodgers are most likely gonna face each other in a Wild Card series.

This is all very different from when I last followed baseball, but my understanding is that the #4 record Dodgers (my team, woohoo!), would play the #5 record Padres, and the #3 record Cubs would play the #6 record Mets if the season ended today. Is that not right?

I don’t think that’s right. Assuming the Dodgers win the division I believe they play the last wild card team, the Mets, and the other two wild cards play each other.

    FROM SHAMS:

Guard Dennis Smith Jr. has agreed to a one-year deal to return to the Dallas Mavericks, agent Daniel Hazan of Hazan Sports Management tells ESPN. Smith reunites with the franchise that drafted him No. 9 overall in 2017 and now he’ll compete in training camp in Dallas.

Correct TC, the 3 division leaders are the top 3 seeds regardless if any Wild Card teams have better records.

Yankees currently have the 2nd best record in the AL yet are the 4th seed cause they’re 2nd in the AL East behind Toronto.

The new structure for how sports are televised is driving me crazy and, honestly, making we sympathize with Dolan in one regard. I’ve sometimes tried to watch Yankee games lately, and it’s very difficult to find out where they are being broadcast. It could be Yes, Fox, MLB channel, Apple TV and probably more. ESPN used to list what was on TV but no more so you have to do web searches and may or may not find it. At the moment, I am watching on the Fox sports app, but only the Spanish language broadcast is available. ( (I think they don’t have rights to the English version for their app). The whole system has moved from catering to fans of a particular team to just thinking any game is good (like Monday night football). If you follow a team, instead of, say, just watch sports, it’s difficult. There is no way to subscribe to watch all that team’s games. It’s the same for the NBA. This brings me to Dolan. He is at war with the league and I think it’s over the way they have made local broadcasting rights less and less valuable. They have sold many more NBA games to national TV than they used to so local broadcasting has fewer games to show than they used to. So MSG has fewer games to show than they used to. This affects the big market teams the worst because their local rights are the most valuable. Dolan is rightfully upset. The system is being skewed towards showing a game, any game, (probably hopefully one bettors will bet on) instead of catering to long time fans of teams. I don’t know the Yankees as well, but it coukd be the same for them.

According to Google AI, Steve Ballmer didn’t date any girls in high school and I am apt to agree with it.
