Most folks here are ride or die Knicks supporters. OAKAAK believers too.
Why is it that in sports we can easily criticize our favorite team. I mean the entire organization from top to bottom and laugh about it but we can never do this with our politics?
It’s like living in the world where everyone of your friends is still a Frank Knilitkina apologist and no one ever moved on to say…”yeah, that wasn’t one of my smartest ideas” and laugh about it…
I’ll go first. – I voted for DeBlasio both times.
That’s a great post, Director. Political leanings are never as cut and dry as Frank, though. They’re more like Leon Rose. Some folks won’t tolerate you talking about the ghastly mistakes he’s made bc they think the focus should be entirely on how much better off we are than with the last guy. It’s an illogical, fear-based position based on inability to be comfortable with a dialectic. Perhaps it’s unsurprising then that I was the only one who agrees with you.
i dont think that anyone here is trying to beautify charlie kirk beatify maybe but not beautify and if they are trying to beatify him they shouldnt be doing that either besides i think that maybe only the pope can do that anyway
after this past january i felt that it would only be a matter of time before this site fully embraced political discourse and eight months later here we are

Well, it’s been fun, boys and boys. Catch you when training camp starts, I hope.
1
Yeah, if it’s politics, i close the thread. See you tomorrow.
Wait, there’s big news, though:
The Knicks are also considering adding Trey Jemison III to the training camp roster, sources told Ian Begley of SNY.
His -7.3 bpm last year in 226 minutes sounds promising. Also:
The Knicks also still have two two-way spots to fill and are looking at players outside of the organization for those roles.
Intriguing.
Malcolm Brogdon
Reminder that today is Bagel Radio live show, where they play new cuts (and some older stuff).
Why is it that in sports we can easily criticize our favorite team. I mean the entire organization from top to bottom and laugh about it but we can never do this with our politics?
If the Knicks lose to the Celtics, a lot of my friends and family’s marriages won’t become illegal, my youngest will never be able to use a public restroom without harassment, my daughter will lose access to birth control, and I’ll have to work to the age of 69.
People like sports (and other entertainment) to allow them to forget the pain and troubles of life. If you net you life savings and everything you know on a Knicks game, I don’t think you’d be laughing much if they lose.
I have an uncle who is very temperate and calm demeanor. The only time I’ve seen him lose his shit in my whole life is a Vikings MNF football game where he obviously had money on the Vikings.
2
Brogdon can probably be useful if he’s healthy. He potentially can serve as a backup PG.
I have to imagine he still gets enough offers that he only comes here if he has a good shot at making the roster.
Thinking the plan is still to move Kolek, and now I’m betting on Brogdon & Shamet taking the last 2 spots
I am 99% on board with the no politics consensus, with my minor reservation being that we have so many smart, nuanced thinkers here I wouldn’t hate if we had a separate way to respectfully discuss current events, shall we say, when actual Knicks news is slow. The risk of spillover is probably just too high, though, so Garrison Mathews takes it is.
The fact that someone like Shamet has to fight for a roster spot is a pretty strong indicator it’s time for either expansion and/or a rather dramatic rethinking of the CBA, right? I’m under no illusions about him as a player, but prior to this CBA and the attendant apron restrictions that would’ve been inconceivable, IMO. He’s a 28 year-old bona fide shooter who has even held his own in the playoffs!
Thinking the plan is still to move Kolek, and now I’m betting on Brogdon & Shamet taking the last 2 spots
Yeah, a team like Washington would probably give up a 2nd rounder for Kolek, right?
I generally still like him and don’t mind his price in a bubble, but we shouldn’t have a guy eating up a roster spot who isn’t a net positive and doesn’t have playoff experience. And although I like Kolek, I’m guessing we can find a pretty similar player to him in any draft.
I would have been satisfied with the news that Shamet and Mathews will battle it out, but adding Brogdon at this stage for the price we got him is icing on the cake. It does add a glut in the backcourt, but if he’s healthy- it’s a steal in the sense that we have the flexibility to trade someone for a cleaner fit in addition to his on-court value. The question for me is whether or not this is a true vet min deal.
I may be looking too far ahead, but if he can still defend some, he may start in place of Hart. That would make this team extremely dangerous and deep. We still need a true POA defender though. Who knows? Maybe Brunson works at it this season? Bridges wasn’t good in that role last season, while OG was better at it. But I feel like our defense would be better with them roaming(mostly OG) and defending wings. We just need someone to not hemorrhage points at the POA. Or maybe we can afford to start Deuce now that Brogdon’s on board and have a savvy bench led by Hart, Clarkson, Brogdon, and Yabusele who will push the pace.
What say you?
[Knicks news led me to return. Hoping we can stick to that for a bit.]
Even though Shamet, Brogdon, and Matthews are all non-guaranteed (Matthews on a training camp contract) and theoretically competing for one spot, it feels like the team wouldn’t have done this if there wasn’t a plan to keep two of them. So someone has to be moved to create enough space under the apron. Possibilities, in order of likelihood:
1. Kolek. This is the no-brainer. He seems much further away than he should, given his age, and the playmaking alone isn’t enough if he can’t defend and also can’t shoot. Could we get anything for him, or would we have to use a second to dump him?
2. Dadiet. I don’t think the FO would be ready to cut bait on a guy who’s a project with genuine upside. That said, if Leon believes that this is the year, then they can’t necessarily wait on Dadiet if it costs them a player who can definitely play this season. And we could definitely get something back for him, given how in-demand his archetype is. Probably not another first, but maybe a protected first that becomes two seconds?
3. Deuce. I’d be surprised but not 100% shocked if this happens. He was Thibs’ guy, and I think the team could get real value for someone with his talent and contract. Might be a case of making room for more vets while also rebuilding the asset chest for a year or two from now.
Brogdon is Mr. Glass. Trading our youth before our new coach has had an opportunity to closely examine them is really shortsighted.

3. Deuce. I’d be surprised but not 100% shocked if this happens. He was Thibs’ guy, and I think the team could get real value for someone with his talent and contract. Might be a case of making room for more vets while also rebuilding the asset chest for a year or two from now.
This is painful for me because I really really like Kolek’s game and Dadiet’s potential with his true wing size. But…Deuce is also still young and worthy, and Dink Pate has potential with a higher floor than Dadiet at the same size.
I say bank on Brogdon and Shamet being reliable enough and send Kolek to GS, Utah, or Milwaukee for a 2nd. Between Deuce, Brogdon, and Clarkson- we have more than enough good guard play when Brunson sits or is injured. Kolek is probably a little more than a luxury than Dadiet is at this point.
Kolek and Dadiet are at the bottom of the value curve. Dadiet has some intrigue curiosity, but GM’s will not be parting with a scrappy 2nd rounder for our currently unexceptional bench youth. Deuce…sure. But is that the right move?
It’s the dog days of the offseason and not much is happening basketball-wise. There’s only so much juice you can squeeze from the Landry Shamet turnip. Nature abhors a vacuum and all that.
I’m hesitant to compare Kolek to Frank Ntilikina because the former has some NBA level skills, but even though I hate the concept of cutting bait on a young player for someone like Brogdon, I’m afraid that like Ntilikina, Kolek suffers from a lack of absolutely crucial skills that place a very hard cap on his upside.
There was a time you could be a rotation guard in the NBA even if you couldn’t score, like, at all, but I think it has come and gone. Kolek will be 25 when the playoffs start so it’s getting late early for him in terms of learning how to do things like “make layups.”
All this to say, it would be dishonest of me to claim to be all that bent out of shape if we salary dump him to make room for someone clearly better than him in the present.
Per SNY’s Ian Begley, Brogdon’s deal is non-guaranteed and he will compete with Landry Shamet for a backup point guard role if the Knicks don’t make a trade because they only have one roster spot open.
This confirms we can only hire one of them. We also haven’t signed a rookie, which we need to do (if we don’t make a trade) to free up space) but maybe weal are waiting to see rookie performance in training camp.
Sorry but I’m excited about Brogdon. Sure, maybe he doesn’t make the roster or is more of a dud than Kemba Walker was. But I can envision him in the rotation.
We can only hire one of them now. When it was just Shamet and Matthews, it was easy to assume it was two guys competing for one spot. But when it’s three guys — one of whom doesn’t play exactly the same position as the other two — it now feels like a move made with at least one other move in mind. If we can unload Kolek (or Dadiet) without taking back salary, we can sign two of these guys and still have room left for Diawara or Nnaji on the rookie minimum deal.
Noble, you could be absolutely right that Kolek will never score baskets in the NBA, but there’s an alternative reality explanation that could be in operation. Which is the Thibs Effect.
Kolek shot 33% from the field and 30% from three, although 76% from the foul line, last year.
Deuce McBride in his first year shot 30% from the field and 25% from three, while at 67% from the foul line.
Thibs threw his rookie guards in for the last two minutes of blow-outs, where they had maybe one chance to chuck up a shot out of rhythm while everyone else was trying to chuck up THEIR shot before the buzzer. It was a terrible way to showcase talent.
I very much feel that the jury is still out on Kolek. He was a quite decent shooter in college. That may not translate, but I don’t think any of us can say with any certainty at this point.
Thought Leon did the same last year and Shamet just won the spot.
What if they all just really have to compete for last couple of roster spots, (including Kolek and maybe Dadiet) instead of being handed to someone for something they did 3 years ago?
If the Knicks lose to the Celtics, a lot of my friends and family’s marriages won’t become illegal, my youngest will never be able to use a public restroom without harassment, my daughter will lose access to birth control, and I’ll have to work to the age of 69.
Yeah but I’d argue those things are largely happening bc not enough of us are compelling the democratic party to put together a sensible platform that actually appeals to Americans.
There weren’t enough Bobs in America to get Trump elected twice. He needed us to push people large swaths of people towards him. And we obliged. We always oblige.
So the Brooks Nielsen record I was talking about the other day has been released. I co-wrote three tunes, played a ton of instruments, and mixed the whole thing. Here’s one of the co-writes. I played most instruments on this as well, including everything in the little coda section at the end:
Sorry, I didn’t read the 20 posts after Mike’s calling for an end. I will oblige.

Yeah, I like Kolek but he’s not ready and Brogdon (if healthy) gives us a legit real back up PG for Brunson who is playoff tested.
I’d be fine trading Kolek for a 2nd round pick.
Honestly, I’m stoked we’re bringing back Shamet and getting Brogdon. I’d say the only “need” left would be MAYBE another big depending on if Mitch starts or not. And even if Mitch doesn’t start. But Huk might be that guy and I’d much rather take a chance of Huk being needed if there’s an injury than Kolek.
Deuce is a solid example of someone who looked hopeless scoring wise and then turned it around, but also, he is entering his 5th NBA season and is still only 180 days older than Kolek. He had a .590 TS% season when he was a full year younger than Kolek is currently.
Kolek stinking out the joint in summer league was not an encouraging data point.
i would be very happy if it were mathews and brogdon
I don’t know how anyone can have much of an opinion on Kolek. He played 296 minutes last year and showed flashes but shot poorly. He barely even played in G-League. I know his summer league performance was underwhelming but summer league has almost no predictive value.
Maybe his shot never comes around and he is a total bust but we certainly haven’t seen enough to say anything for sure.
As for his defense, I don’t understand why some people have decided he is and will continue to be a bad defender. He was a good defender in college and has not looked hopeless defensively thus far. He had good steal numbers in college and that has translated and he has good athleticism. His size almost guarantees he won’t be some elite defender but there are plenty of NBA players with his size and athletic profile who are solid+ defenders.
Moving on from him before he even gets his second training camp just to sign Shamet to be our 11th or 12th man seems silly.
I’m not sure there’s much point to spending too much time debating players that are going to be 12-15 on the roster. I like Shamet or Brogdon being 3rd string.
The main positive points for the season are that Mitch will hopefully be back for a full season and that will help the defense and Yabu is an upgrade over Precious on offense (we’ll see if he can defend at some competent level).
Other than that, we still have the same issues related to Towns/Brunson on defense, non optimal spacing with Hart in the starting lineup, no real backup PG unless Brogdon or Kolek surprises to the upside, if we move Hart to bench, who starts and will the offense become less Brunson-centric?
The best argument for this team is that the top of east is worse due to key injuries.
The best argument against is that other the Boston/Pacer injuries a lot of teams improved more than us.
I would not trade Kolek yet unless it was part of a trade for a significant upgrade somewhere.
I’m in favor of keeping any young player that’s has one elite skill, is a plus defender or does a few less tangible hard to identify things that lead to measurable positive impact.
If a guy is already a positive on one side or has one elite skill, all he has to do in not be a huge minus in other ways to find a useful role WHEN PUT IN CORRECT LINEUPS. If he’s young and there’s some hope of further development on those weaknesses, I say keep him.
I’d way rather have a guy that’s a clear cut positive defensively or a great 3 point shooter or a great playmaker but clearly weak in other ways than a guy that’s mediocre at everything but the overall stats say is superior. I can work around weakness on either side with lineup adjustments. I don’t need all around mediocre. I need elite skills on either side.
This is where trust in Mike is crucial, and I really hope Mike is telling the FO the positional needs of the non rotation slots and not vice versa. And whatever happens where we could sign 1-3 vets in conjunction to trading/dumping 1-3 current players, it’s got to be Mike making the call. We had a taste of Leon making a roster decision that was pretty obviously a non-Thibs player, and that did not pan out well.
I’m not sure there’s much point to spending too much time debating players that are going to be 12-15 on the roster.
Are you new here?
1
Isn’t Clarkson our backup point guard? Sure he can also play shooting guard, but given the structure of our roster he’s a clear candidate.
Even though I was very disappointed in Kolek’s summer league, I haven’t given up on him. Summer league is a funny environment for point guards. The teams aren’t as practiced together as a regular team and, in the case of the Knicks’ summer league team, there weren’t a lot of scorers for Kolek to pass to.
I stay quiet most of the time. I came here to talk about Shamet and Brogdan but after reading yesterday’s vile thread, I want to wag an angry finger at the extreme post here. Both sides must accept blame for what’s going on in this country. Learn about the Horseshoe theory of politics.
Brogdan and Shamet are great signings. Thank god we were “rejected” by Simmons. I’m hoping that Brogdan can stay healthy. He’s a great addition to the bench.
The signings open up the need to make a trade. Is it a small trade or a big one? Do Kolek and Dadiet have roles on this team? A small trade could be Kolek for a pick. A big trade could see several players and contracts moved for a big name. Interesting times.
We signed Clarkson to be our backup PG. It’s not my favorite signing in the world but you figure that he’s Brunson’s backup. He is a legit PG. He is more score first but he has been primarily a 1 his whole career.
Then McBride is Bridges backup, and two of Kolek, Shamet, and Brogdon are the 3rd string guards. I would vote Kolek at the 1 and Brogdon at the 2 unless Brogdon is hurt/washed or Kolek shits the bed in training camp.
The hole I see is in the frontcourt. If we start a two big lineup our 2nd string bigs are Yabusele and Hukporti and we have no 3rd stringers at all.
With Mitch’s injury history that seems precarious. If he goes down for any time at all our frontcourt gets really thin really fast.
Isn’t Clarkson our backup point guard?
You know my feeling on this.
Clarkson is going to get hot some nights, score a lot, generate a celebratory reaction at times, but do some dumb things like Payne and will overall be a negative player. However, I expect the media and fans will like him a lot more than his actual value because, well, pointz and tough shot making and people underrate defense or lackthereof.
I don’t think Payne is really a PG either, but I think he’s more of a PG than Clarkson and we might actually miss him. The team was good when he was on the floor in a quite a few lineups.
summer league has almost no predictive value.
I don’t think this is true.
Being good in the summer league may have no predictive value but being bad in it often does. Especially when someone’s 25 years old.
The hole I see is in the frontcourt. If we start a two big lineup our 2nd string bigs are Yabusele and Hukporti and we have no 3rd stringers at all.
Agree with this. Our depth is mostly guards at this point. Shamet and Brogdon are both good depth pieces, but we don’t seem to have enough bigs.
I know he looked like trash in Vegas, but maybe Nnaji winds up with the rookie minimum slot after all?
@SbondyNBA
People around the league expecting the Knicks to make a move to have space to keep Brogdon AND either Shamet or Mathews.
Stay tuned.
Both sides must accept blame for what’s going on in this country.
This NOT meant to be political.
Again, imo the issue is that a larger percentage of the country seems to have sociopathic tendencies, is emotionally unstable, has a delusional world view etc…. than in decades past.
I have theories as to why, but I have no expertise in the why, I can just see the obvious that there are WAY more people with mental health issues than there used to be.
The thing that really worries me is that I see it among CEOs, politicians, news people on TV, billionaires, teachers and students on college campuses.
There are a lot of important people with little or no empathy or grip on reality and even more of them in the general population.
When theoretically responsible people rile up marginally stable people up with spin, lies, hyperbole and propaganda, some of them are going to react violently because they believe what they are hearing is fact.
The result is more political assassinations, more political riots, more celebratory reaction to the death and destruction of political opponents, more random murders based on race/religion/politics and so on. IMO, that is raising the stakes for something really violent to happen and it’s very unsettling.
What I am talking about is not political. It’s mostly a mental health issue, but currently it’s being driven to extreme actions by irresponsible and in some cases delusional people in and around politics.
Swift, I hate to say this as it is likely to spawn a whole series of hideous Doogie minutes breakdowns that just aggravate the hell out of me, but in truth I don’t think you can pigeonhole many of the Knicks into particular positions. Brunson is a point guard. Mitch is a center. Huk, too. Everyone else swims around in our bright new positionless world.
For example, I’m still expecting/hoping for the Mitch/KAT starting frontcourt, which blows up the rest of your list except for Brunson (as OG is then a 3 and Mikal is a 2). Everyone else gets mixed and matched. Which, honestly, isn’t a bad thing if it doesn’t cause Mike’s head to explode.
surprised to see malcom brogdon is only 32, seems like he’s been on the downside of his career for years…
biggest concern for kolek this summer was his inability to handle ball pressure…that’s not good…
FROM SHAMS:
Washington Wizards guard Bilal Coulibaly underwent surgery Friday to repair a ligament tear in his right thumb and is likely to miss time into the regular season, sources tell ESPN. Coulibaly sustained the injury with the French national team during FIBA EuroBasket play.
And Strat, that is politics. It sure as hell ain’t sports (or music, or food, or travel). So how about leaving it lie. We come to this forum to get away from that shit.
brogdon not brogdan brogdon not brogdan brogdon not brogdan
If the Knicks lose to the Celtics, a lot of my friends and family’s marriages won’t become illegal…
Pay attention, everyone. Notice how this poster is so terribly afraid of things that MIGHT happen. Meanwhile,
– Non-Violent illegal immigrants getting murdered by ICE
– Children being denied to use bathrooms by a party too obsessed with children’s genitals
– Women and children being sex trafficked across to Epstein Island, and being protected by the President himself.
– Millions of illegal immigrants being visciously exploited by conservative politicians.
– The entire American media establishment lying to the public about the health mental state of the guy with his hand on the nuclear button (Trump_.
All of those things ACTUALLY HAPPENED thanks to the people and policies supported by the Republican Party and the American Right.
The problem with American politics isn’t that one side is right and the other is wrong. It’s that one side treats politics like politics and the other side treats politics like a religion from which they derive their entire sense of self-worth.
its abjectly false to say that clarkson “has been primarily a 1 his whole career” his career splits are 21 pg 71 sg 8 sf the last time he played more pg than sg was in 2017-18 when his splits were 51 pg 47 sg 1 sf across time on the lakers and cleveland brogdon not brogdan is at 47 pg 50 sg 3 sf across his 9 year career
Bunge-jumping without a cord…

I can just see the obvious that there are WAY more people with mental health issues than there used to be.
it’s called getting old strat…
not sure people themselves have changed much over the last seventy thousand years or so, just different locations, time and circumstances…
remember the last couple of years my dad was around he was pretty sure “the world” was coming to an end…nope, things are just changing, faster and faster, hard for an older person to keep up with it all while still wanting to live in their past…
What I am talking about is not political. It’s mostly a mental health issue, but currently it’s being driven to extreme actions by irresponsible and in some cases delusional people in and around politics.
Okay, Strat. I’m gonna ask you again, since you didn’t respond to this yesterday.
When Paul Pelosi was attacked by a lunatic with a hammer in his own home, Charlie Kirk’s response was that an “amazing patriot” should bail him out of jail. Wasn’t Charlie Kirk one of these “irresponsible people” you seem to be railing against?
If somebody said today that an “amazing patriot” should bail Tyler Robinson out of jail, would that be irresponsible or no?
2
Hey Mike, here’s a nice big Bag Of Dicks for you to eat. When you’re done with that, enjoy this nice tall glass of Shut The Fuck Up. It pairs nicely with the Bag Of Dicks.
2
The vet min market sure seems robust enough to question holding onto to any second round pick with minimal upside. Brogdon over Kolek is a no brainer for me. You guys made some decent pro Huk arguments yesterday but I’m still on the fence. Precious’ floor seems higher.
When Paul Pelosi was attacked by a lunatic with a hammer in his own home, Charlie Kirk’s response was that an “amazing patriot” should bail him out of jail. Wasn’t Charlie Kirk one of these “irresponsible people” you seem to be railing against?
Try stowing the high dudgeon for a moment, will ya? Your Presidential candidate in 2024 actually tweeted support for the Minnesota Freedom Fund ( “If you’re able to, chip in now to the @MNFreedomFund to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota”) for the express purpose of bailing out those arrested in Minneapolis so they could continue their rampage.
Kirk DID make that statement, but in context of making a larger point which you ignored:
Yes, in October 2022, during an episode of The Charlie Kirk Show, Charlie Kirk suggested that an “amazing patriot” should post bail for David DePape, the man who attacked Paul Pelosi.
Context of Kirk’s remarks
A sarcastic criticism: Kirk’s comments were made in the context of sarcastically criticizing San Francisco’s justice system. He questioned why DePape was held without bail while other crimes, which he suggested were more frequent and serious, were treated with less urgency in the city.
Condemnation of the attack: While making the sarcastic bail suggestion, Kirk also explicitly condemned the assault as “awful” and “not right”.
Fact-checked attribution: Fact-checking outlets like Snopes have verified that Kirk did make the bail-related comment, though they note it was part of a larger, critical commentary on the justice system and was accompanied by a condemnation of the attack itself.
Calling folks Hitler and NAZI never ends up well. Dial it back folks.
Oh, good. The basketball discussion lasted a couple of hours before we went back to this crap. Tab closed. Later.
1
Nice rationalization of Kirk’s bullshit.
We all know what it was: an edgelord attempt to make light of an attempted murder.
Good try though!
Bonus question: why would the person bailing him out be an “amazing patriot” in this instance?
3. Deuce. I’d be surprised but not 100% shocked if this happens. He was Thibs’ guy, and I think the team could get real value for someone with his talent and contract. Might be a case of making room for more vets while also rebuilding the asset chest for a year or two from now.
Alan… noooooooo! 😛
Deuce is one of my favorite players, i don’t want to see him go.
Deuce is one of my favorite players, i don’t want to see him go.
Same. Both Deuce & Mitch should retire as a Knick.
Once again, I thank the Moderators for this wonderful site that has given me hours and hours of pleasure discussing in detail (and mostly reading about) my beloved Knicks.
But if the moderators have a spare minute, while the rest of us are drilling down on the implications of the Tyler Kolek, Malcolm Brogdon, and Pacome Dadiet contracts, could they please register the domain idiotterblogger.net and port the discussion tools there?
I’d LOVE to (NOT) visit IdiotterBlogger to read BrunsonPeroneusLongus and MBunge discussing the Bail Laws in San Francisco and Minneapolis. It’s the perfect venue for them!
I doubt Deuce gets traded. We’d be unlikely to get back a first (at least one that was likely to convey as such) and IMO Deuce is more valuable than, say, two seconds and the ability to sign a vet-minimum instead of a rookie minimum. This is even more obvious if there’s an alternative like dumping Kolek or Huk that allows us to do that anyway.
From Fischer:
After the Knicks’ dalliance with Ben Simmons, they opted to sign both Landry Shamet and Malcolm Brogdon to one-year deals this week despite knowing that — barring a trade to create some roster flexibility away from the second luxury tax apron — they will only have room to keep one of them when the regular season starts. League sources say that the Knicks, though, have begun to weigh various trade scenarios to provide that needed distance from the second tax apron in the event they wish to keep both Shamet and Brogdon; one of the few possibilities that could be easily executed is parting with 2024 first-round pick Pacome Dadiet.
Also: There is another veteran New York considered signing in recent days. League sources say that the Knicks weighed bringing in Thomas Bryant after team officials visited with the veteran big man. New York ultimately decided to prioritize wing and backcourt depth; Bryant is fresh off contributing to Indiana’s unexpected run to the NBA Finals.
Dadiet wasn’t particularly high on my draft board, but I’d probably prefer keeping him to Kolek just because there’s “if you squint” upside there. Of course, the hang up might be that we can’t find a taker for Kolek without sweetener, while someone is willing to take Dadiet of our hands.
Nice rationalization of Kirk’s bullshit.
Refer your complaints to Snopes factcheckers. I know you folks aren’t big on context. Curious what you thought of Kamala’s action where she was completely serious about bailing domestic terrorists from jail.
Just be consistent.
A nice Katz piece in The Athletic on Anunoby (and bits and pieces of other stuff). Still my favorite writer when he bothers with the Knicks these days, maybe just because he touches on things I’m interested in (and mostly agree with). Here’s an interesting bit:
‘When Brunson got hurt last season, Anunoby started driving to the basket approximately twice as often, according to Second Spectrum. He averaged just short of 25 points a game over that one-month span. And he was not succeeding because of Kyrie-esque crossovers. Anunoby is a workman. He puts his head down and bowls over whichever pins dare bounce in his path.’
The London dance scene is … interesting…
Wow, Mike-on-Mike violence. Is this what it’s come to?
Bryant seems like a good pickup. I’d probably sat Brhuagdon and Bryant are more important to the bench than Shamet, even though they’d all be good additions.
Basketball post:
It’s worth remembering that in 2023 a very promising postseason run ended in a flash because our 9th man was an unready 2nd year backup PG who was incapable of playing 3 cromulent minutes in an elimination game. We had a commanding lead over the Heat in game 6 when Deuce was forced to enter, and in 2 minutes the Heat went on a 10-0 run that flipped the game and cost us the season.
A contender needs 11 certifiable NBA players. We have 9. And one of them is Jordan Clarkson.
Kolek, Huk, Dadiet, Diawarra is 4 spots to guys who would be roadkill if they had to play 3 minutes like Deuce did. That’s too many. And IMO the upside on two of them (Kolek & Huk) is way too minimal to make it worth it.
And for the 100th time: we’re not talking about our 12-15th men. We already have those spots covered. We have a top 9 and a bottom 4. It’s the 10th & 11th men we’re talking about, and those are important players.
We need Huk because we don’t have a lot of bigs. Kolek we don’t really need. If we had signed another big rather than Brogdon I’d have said Huk was more fungible for us, but we don’t have a lot of guys who can go out there and just be tall.
Or we could replace him with Precious bc we know he won’t kill us if he plays 3 minutes in a playoff game. (Hell he once was a major reason we won one.)
I don’t think Huk stans grasp how much work he has in front of him to just be as bad as Precious.
brogdon not brogdan brogdon not brogdan
I think Doogie might have just locked in another Alec Burks experience for himself if Blogdin makes the team.
Curious what you thought of Kamala’s action where she was completely serious about bailing domestic terrorists from jail.
Is this what they were charged with and convicted of, or are you making shit up?
Mike K, since you’re here may I alert you to the fact that some posters here are violating their parole (and MBunge, amazingly, isn’t one of them, even though he’s never made a basketball related post in his life, even one as dumb as saying that Benedict Matherin is is going carry the Pacers back to the finals)
Brompton winning 6MOY feels like forever ago, but it was just two seasons and even if he’s only as good as he was with Portland prior to this past season, that’d be a great get with a minimum signing. That said, Shamet is much less likely to be deep fried, so if we can only keep one I’d probably go with him over Blobdon.
I like the music you shared, JK. Great job.
I don’t think Kolek is a player. He can’t score or defend. He looks like he is still in high school.
I love the passing and I can totally see him figuring it out by the time he is 28, but we can do better.
I really like Kolek
Amazingly, this is an anagram for “y’all like Kirk”.
impossible as there is no letter “o” so no need checking out the rest

Bunge-jumping without a cord…
This nearly killed me… (note to self: don’t eat nuts while reading KB)
JK I liked Real as Pluto, thanks for posting.
Brogdanovic was a good player once.
which bogdanovic there are two of them that have played very recently bojan and bogdan i believe are their names one of them played briefly for us the year before last before getting injured in the playoff series against philly
I’m actually a little surprised we signed Biden instead of Delon. I think the Wright’s positional versatility would have been helpful.
I truly would love to wait on Kolek, but as Apollo Creed told Rocky, there IS no tomorrow!
as long as were signing presidents we should see what clinton is up to no wait we pretty much already know what hes up to
[Basketball Post]
You guys made some decent pro Huk arguments yesterday but I’m still on the fence. Precious’ floor seems higher.
My problem is with Precious more than moving Huk. If there were another vet to bring in I’d be behind it. I also may be too harsh on him due to recency bias.
PS. The header for posts is a great idea
Nice tracks JK!!!
I think Huk played better in his last three games pre-knee injury than Precious ever did, but whatever.
2
And I’m probably too high on Precious because he was so good in game 4 against the Sixers. If we put Huk in that spot Embiid is stealing his lunch money.
It seems like there’s always one or two moments in a postseason where a team’s 10th or 11th man is called upon in an emergency. I like that Precious already showed me once we can win a critical game against a good opponent if he’s that guy.
Re: Kolek
I like the kid but when you’re in the middle of your championship window, with what is likely your best shot at a championship, it’s not the time to gamble with young players.
If he could do one of shooting or defending, I’d reconsider. And if he’s showing more behind closed doors, by all means keep him.
Re: Big Depth
Nnaji can play up to 50 games on a 2-Way. It becomes a problem if you need another big for the playoffs, but we’d be in pretty deep shit if we’re relying on him in the playoffs.
Also, Nnaji was dealing with an injury during SL for what it’s worth.
Dadiet can gives us size at the wing and play PF. I’d prefer to keep him over Kolek, if only to help balance the roster.
i like the idea of signing one of shamet, bronson or matthews…
shit canning kolek and bringing in thomas bryant…
I see Nnaji as a total stiff who will never play a meaningful minute in the NBA, but he’s young so hey, you never!
Huk showed me enough that I won’t miss Precious one iota, if if if Huk can stay healthy.
I like Dadiet a lot. Please don’t trade him!
As to Kolek, I’d be fine with keeping him and letting Shamet go. But I’d also be fine with trading him and keeping Shamet. It’s a decision where I give Leon and Brown full discretion and trust.
The best thing to do would be to let them battle it out in preseason and make a decision on the eve of the season. If cola can show something, then keep him around. If he can’t handle it, engineer trade.
BROGDON is a good player we should play him
So as not to kill the vibe here, I posted a response to Bob’s political views in the last thread. You’re welcome, Alan, et. al!
OOPS! Kolek, not cola!
As a member of the moderation team here, let’s keep everything politics related in the last thread – work out whatever you need to work out there, and let’s leave it there.
Tomorrow, let’s keep the new thread to basketball and whatever banal apolitical sidetopic we come up with.
Let me perhaps suggest a discussion of the “Diving Dogs of the Algarve” if there is no basketball news.
I agree, if folks need to vent their spleen, do so in yesterday’s thread. People can go back and read it if they wish, or not, but they’re not forced to read them. Even I might post political screed if I knew it was only going to offend those daft enough to go back and bother looking, rather than every reader of this fine site.
Of course this might alter the look of historic threads, at least the tail end of them. But let the people who end up writing PhDs and books about Knickerblogger worry about that…
…or create a “politics” thread.
The starting lineup of Brunson, Deuce, Bridges, OG and KAT is good but is it championship level?
I see Nnaji as a total stiff who will never play a meaningful minute in the NBA, but he’s young so hey, you never!
He definitely looked like a stiff to me too, but I’m hoping it was the back issue that kept him from playing more minutes.
If nothing else he’s big and sometimes that’s enough. Given KAT & Mitch’s injury history he might be needed at some point (or we just cut him and find the next Skapinstev).
And I’m probably too high on Precious because he was so good in game 4 against the Sixers. If we put Huk in that spot Embiid is stealing his lunch money.
Some of the best defense I’ve seen in a long time. I don’t think Precious can sustain that level of play.
Then again, maybe he just needs a coach that runs switch more than 6min at the end of a playoff game or 6 games against the Celtics in the playoffs with zero practice.
I think Kolek’s vision is great, and he’s a real point guard, but he’s 25, so yeah, I’d rather trade him for depth and hope it wasn’t a mistake. We should make the ECF at least, and that means having vets who can contribute.
Hubert, you’re nuts about Precious – he is unreliable no matter what highlights he contributes from time to time. Huk has looked far better, with more potential, and is cheap. Also, he’s an actual center, not aPF who can’t shoot, and that could make a difference.
I have the suspicion that some players agents were pushing the Knicks to hire their client for the last spot and kept claiming their client was better than the alternative. So finally the Knicks said ok, let him come to pre season and prove it. So now we have three players competing for one spot.
This theory assumes that experienced players actually want to play for the Knicks even as a third string, which is mind boggling for a long time Knicks fan, but it could be.
And Alan, you could be right that the Knicks will make a trade if some of these guys pan out do they can keep more than one, but I honestly don’t think Kolek or Dadiet will fetch draft picks, so I’m not sure how they do that
Brogdon taking that offer reminds me of the Kemba Walker signing, in the sense that if he’s actually excited to take that offer, then there must be something seriously wrong with that dude’s health.
As someone who time warped from 2009 to 2025 to follow baseball I have this to say: the 10th inning gift runner is the dumbest idea ever, it makes MBunge seem smart.
In the end, the sweetener part will be the deciding factor. But if everything else is equal, I would part with Dadiet. I think we have more redundancy in Dadiet’s position than in Kolek’s. I am really happy to take a flyer with Brogdon, but he misses a third of the games in his “healthy” seasons and he might not be healthy. And after Brunson, we have a few not-quite PGs, which would be best served with an additional ballhandler in the lineup.

Yeah, if it’s politics, i close the thread. See you tomorrow.
Wait, there’s big news, though:
His -7.3 bpm last year in 226 minutes sounds promising. Also:
Intriguing.

Him too! 1-year deal.
Does he have anything at all left in the tank?
But yeah, that’s enough politics.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6621408/2025/09/12/knicks-coach-mike-brown-og-anunoby/?source=dailyemail&campaign=601983&userId=10333007&source=dailyemail
Yeah but I’d argue those things are largely happening bc not enough of us are compelling the democratic party to put together a sensible platform that actually appeals to Americans.
There weren’t enough Bobs in America to get Trump elected twice. He needed us to push people large swaths of people towards him. And we obliged. We always oblige.
So the Brooks Nielsen record I was talking about the other day has been released. I co-wrote three tunes, played a ton of instruments, and mixed the whole thing. Here’s one of the co-writes. I played most instruments on this as well, including everything in the little coda section at the end:
https://youtu.be/EsNejHji2Hg?si=v6ydghvy3-FxwF85
Here’s another one that I didn’t co-write but which is one of my favorite mixes:
https://youtu.be/Jv_QdUIeiXQ?si=Bg4L-W0zuNAsGpxL
Brunson/Brogdon
Deuce/Clarkson/Shamet
Mikal/Hart/Dadiet
OG/Yabu
KAT/Mitch/Huk
I mean….this is pretty good, no?
Are you new here?
Learn about the
Horseshoe theory of politics.
I don’t think this is true.
Being good in the summer league may have no predictive value but being bad in it often does. Especially when someone’s 25 years old.
Agree with this. Our depth is mostly guards at this point. Shamet and Brogdon are both good depth pieces, but we don’t seem to have enough bigs.
I know he looked like trash in Vegas, but maybe Nnaji winds up with the rookie minimum slot after all?
Brunson/Brogdon
Deuce/Clarkson/Shamet
Mikal/Hart/Dadiet
OG/Yabu
KAT/Mitch/Huk
Which, honestly, isn’t a bad thing if it doesn’t cause Mike’s head to explode.
surprised to see malcom brogdon is only 32, seems like he’s been on the downside of his career for years…
biggest concern for kolek this summer was his inability to handle ball pressure…that’s not good…
And Strat, that is politics. It sure as hell ain’t sports (or music, or food, or travel). So how about leaving it lie. We come to this forum to get away from that shit.

It’s that one side treats politics like politics and the other side treats politics like a religion from which they derive their entire sense of self-worth.
its abjectly false to say that clarkson “has been primarily a 1 his whole career” his career splits are 21 pg 71 sg 8 sf the last time he played more pg than sg was in 2017-18 when his splits were 51 pg 47 sg 1 sf across time on the lakers and cleveland brogdon not brogdan is at 47 pg 50 sg 3 sf across his 9 year career

remember the last couple of years my dad was around he was pretty sure “the world” was coming to an end…nope, things are just changing, faster and faster, hard for an older person to keep up with it all while still wanting to live in their past…
Hey Mike, here’s a nice big Bag Of Dicks for you to eat. When you’re done with that, enjoy this nice tall glass of Shut The Fuck Up. It pairs nicely with the Bag Of Dicks.
The vet min market sure seems robust enough to question holding onto to any second round pick with minimal upside. Brogdon over Kolek is a no brainer for me. You guys made some decent pro Huk arguments yesterday but I’m still on the fence. Precious’ floor seems higher.
Tab closed. Later.
Nice rationalization of Kirk’s bullshit.
We all know what it was: an edgelord attempt to make light of an attempted murder.
Good try though!
Bonus question: why would the person bailing him out be an “amazing patriot” in this instance?
Alan… noooooooo! 😛
Deuce is one of my favorite players, i don’t want to see him go.
Dadiet wasn’t particularly high on my draft board, but I’d probably prefer keeping him to Kolek just because there’s “if you squint” upside there. Of course, the hang up might be that we can’t find a taker for Kolek without sweetener, while someone is willing to take Dadiet of our hands.
Amazingly, this is an anagram for “y’all like Kirk”.
impossible as there is no letter “o” so no need checking out the rest
what happened with alec burks
My problem is with Precious more than moving Huk. If there were another vet to bring in I’d be behind it. I also may be too harsh on him due to recency bias.
PS. The header for posts is a great idea
Nice tracks JK!!!
I think Huk played better in his last three games pre-knee injury than Precious ever did, but whatever.
He definitely looked like a stiff to me too, but I’m hoping it was the back issue that kept him from playing more minutes.
If nothing else he’s big and sometimes that’s enough. Given KAT & Mitch’s injury history he might be needed at some point (or we just cut him and find the next Skapinstev).
