Tonight will be much better than Sunday. I imagine Julius is goin “FUCK THAT! I’M PLAYING!”

Not gonna lie..I was a little sick after game 1. Not in panic mode- but the fact that Sunday went almost exactly like G1 vs the Cavs got under my skin because we were on the losing end of it. But I’m still very excited and confident with this series because it took practically a herculean effort by Miami as a whole to take that game, and Randle didn’t play. The biggest thing that gives me confidence is they couldn’t stop RJ- even with Randle out. And with RJ playing the way he has since game 3 of the Cavs series with and without Randle, I think we win this series. But it’s Miami, so it’s definitely not gonna go less than 7 games

I won’t be able to watch the game live today,
I hope JB and Julius are healthy enough to play…

    DOOMED

I honestly think we will lose the series. We are just too banged up. And Miami can defend us a lot better than some other teams.

    Knick fan,

You know I’m mister optimist on this board going way back to when we were awful. But I have also had a sinking feeling in my stomach ever since I knew we were going to play Miami.

I just hope we can take this to 6 or 7 games. I know on paper we’re the better team. But we are banged up for sure.

Although apparently Butler is not playing tonight. So that’s a huge plus for us.

I know that Miami came off as the more poised and prepared team, so sure, they should be favored to win the series at this point. But we’ve been pretty resilient all year. If we win tonight, then it’s a 5-game series with them having home court but us having the last home game. By game 3, everyone on both sides should be reasonably healthy.

It’s clearly a must win situation for us tonight and I will be there in the 10th row. Let’s see what our young guys are made of.

DOOM is for sure this year, but I’d like to see better play from some of our underachieving young guns (I’m looking at you IQ).

I also think Brunson and jHart made some uncharacteristically stupid plays last game. Let’s get those things fixed.

Win or lose this series, a strong showing from our guys suggests a future in which all titles are Knicks titles (as they should be).

The Knicks are screwed, but, well, come on, they sure as fuck better beat a Butler-less Heat team, right?

What is the “official” injury report. I see all of Butler, Brunson, and Randle as questionable. Could be a crazy game if they’re all out.

They will probably all be game time decisions, or at least not announced until game time. I don’t think anyone practiced yesterday with the quick turnaround.

My guess is that Butler doesn’t play, Brunson does play, and Julius is 50-50.

Just want to say we’re in the 2nd round and i’m (still) happy! 🙂

Also, i’ve realized that losing to a Heat team led by Spo and Jimmy doesn’t sting like in the old days. But i still think we can win this. Let’s do it, team.

Woke up at 6:00 in the morning will be at work for 14hrs till 23:00 and I’m ready as fuck to watch the knicks at 2:30 after midnight!

I’m fully prepared to lose 4-1 to the Heat and I’m not bitter about it (note: this comment is only 50% doom-fueled).

I used to despise the Heat, but I can’t bring myself anymore to root against Jimmy and Spo; also, they have way more experience than us and while resilient we’re not that emotionally steady.

If we win tonight, it’s possible we make a series out of it, but at this point it’s ok either way. We’re building something and we need to pay our dues before being really competitive.

Like this Heat team, those old Heat teams of the late 90s were pretty bad on paper too. Mourning wasn’t a top-tier center, Hardaway was erratic, PJ Brown was a hack, and Jamal Mashburn was the RJ Barrett of the league, somehow earning 3000 minutes a year with a negative career bpm.

    And yet…

The rest of the playoffs is gravy because no matter what it brought Farfa back to us

“The rest of the playoffs is gravy because no matter what it brought Farfa back to us”

    +1

Fuck that. If we lose to the cHeat, we need to trade half the team ASAP.

    Julius: Gone
    RJ: Gone
    Z-Man: hella Gone
Geo: only if the right deal presents itself

Yeah I’m trying to keep this all in perspective. We’ve had an amazing season. I know the bench mark for success varied from person to person on this blog, but generally speaking it felt like the consensus for calling this a successful season was as follows:

    1. Make the playoffs – done.
    2. Win a first round series – done.
    3. See growth from our youngest players – done (to varying degrees, but still).

Everything else from this point on is gravy. We’re a top 8 team in the league. We’re “pseudo” contenders with a young roster and lots of draft picks (even if we have none this upcoming draft).

Leon will make moves this off season to build on this. Maybe that’s a trade for a star. Maybe it’s a trade for a super role player type. We can reasonably bring back this whole team again next year and chemistry and internal growth from the young players should put us in the top 4 in the East next year.

That being said, losing in 4 or 5 in any round of the playoffs leaves a sour taste in a team’s mouth and can put a negative spin on the season. Leon has been good at ignoring the BS pressure and narrative that the sports punditry puts on the Knicks but losing in 4 or 5 will create noise this off season that might pressure Leon to make a bad move. I don’t think he would do that at this point but you never know.

So even if we lose…I would really like this to be a respectable 6 or 7 game series either way.

It is amazing how ankles work, where clearly the only way Butler was going to be able to play in Game 1 after the injury was to keep him on the court and keep the ankle moving, as that shit was going to balloon whenever he stopped moving. It’s just amazing that that’s how these weird ankle injuries go, where you can play in an NBA playoff game right after the injury, but days later, you can’t. It seems counter-intuitive, but it’s true.

What is the “official” injury report. I see all of Butler, Brunson, and Randle as questionable. Could be a crazy game if they’re all out.

Can’t wait for the Tyrese Maxey 76ers to play Austin Reeves’s Lakers in the finals. Best playoffs ever.

Leon has been good at ignoring the BS pressure and narrative that the sports punditry puts on the Knicks but losing in 4 or 5 will create noise this off season that might pressure Leon to make a bad move.

I just don’t get the whole “Leon is so patient” take when he made a very standard NBA GM monster offer for Mitchell, and Ainge simply preferred the Cleveland one instead because of the third unprotected first round pick (the third first round pick Leon offered was top five protected). I don’t even mean that as a knock on Leon, just that I don’t think “He’s so patient!” is particularly apt for him, that’s all.

I’m a day late on this, but yesterday’s thread thrashing the regular season, after all of us were totally excited about that very same regular season is ridiculous. It was an excellent season for the league!

I’m a day late on this, but yesterday’s thread thrashing the regular season, after all of us were totally excited about that very same regular season is ridiculous. It was an excellent season for the league!

I don’t think it’s a knock on the regular season itself, just as a barometer for playoff success.

As for tonight’s game, leaving aside all the injury issues, the Knicks should win it and go to game 3 with their usual confidence back on, and ready to fight. I’m definitely not conceding the series yet.

I hate Brooks as much as the next guy, but I think that statement would have a bit more bite if there was any chance he was going to be brought back anyways, ya know? Saying “fuck off” to a player who you actually want for basketball reasons but you think is too much of a dick to sign has a lot more force to it.

I’m a day late on this, but yesterday’s thread thrashing the regular season, after all of us were totally excited about that very same regular season is ridiculous. It was an excellent season for the league!

I’m glad I was busy and missed that.

Well Dillon Brooks is a depressed asset, and we need a defensive minded small forward?

Replacing RJ with a less efficient player is very difficult but Dillon checks that box… then knocks it in the nuts

Nice way for Memphis to dump their flame out on a single player. Perhaps it is true but sounds like PR driven damage control.

I said this much yesterday but I don’t think we can take too much from The Heat, Lakers and Warriors advancing as some knock on the regular season not mattering anymore.

Heat went to the ECF last year and Finals 2 years ago. They had a ton of injuries during the regular season and Giannis was hobbled for 3 of the games last series.

Lakers started out horribly this year. Both AD and Lebron missed a good chunk of the regular season. And they completely revamped their roster at the trade deadline.

Warriors are the defending champs who have been playoff tested more than anyone. Steph is still a top 10 player and The Kings were a very green playoff team.

There was more parity this season than ever before (which is a good thing!) so maybe this will be a new trend. But I also think some of it is just random luck as far as what teams ended up being lower seeded ones this season.

I only want Randle to play if he’s healthy enough to play a meaningless regular season game. This is not game 7. If he needs rest, take it. If we split the next two games we are fine.

i’m being stalked by work now…

this shit is so fucking weird – 15 years there…weeks ago, go to my boss, tell them employee x whom is serving as my lead has triggered 2 panic attacks for me…i request no further contact with this employee x…

they tell me: “that isn’t going to happen”, “impossible”, “that would be disruptive to team operations”

2 people from hr reach out to me a couple of days after that meeting with boss…relay the exact same shit…3 days after that meeting with hr – employee x reaches out to me and i fall completely apart…

literally, i am still searches for the pieces…

i keep telling them i am not well, i need time – THEY ARE FUCKING REACHING OUT TO ME NOW THROUGH MY PERSONAL CELL PHONE AND EMAIL…to help me…

i speak to my VA psychiatrist tomorrow morning…how stupid can people be to fuck with a 100% disabled vet…

i don’t like conflict…i am definitely down for it though, should the need arise…

gonna speak with hr tomorrow – try to move this forward myself…i haven’t yet shared my manager’s response to my request for no contact…

i wanna ask the hr person – why didn’t they ensure employee x didn’t reach out to me…

i know what they want – they want me to go out on FMLA – i already shared that because of the anxiety/ptsd condition, resulting from a head injury while serving in the armed forces – it was a severely debilitating process for me to undertake last year…

it took me over four months to put the forms together and coordinate with my doctor…it was so fucking painful for me…destroyed me for months…

that ain’t an option, not going back to my old role ’cause my boss clearly places the company’s needs over my health…

my ask: place me on paid leave until a more suitable (for my health condition) role within the company can be found for me…

i have a feeling they are going to tell me to fuck off and lawyer up…that sucks – but, last few years just had a lawyer help me get some fair treatment with the united states government…

i’m sorry, knicks play today – but – anyone have any feedback/guidance on a path forward…

i think my first step is to brush up on the veterans fair labor law act thing…seriously – there are fucking very specific laws – for just this fucking kind of situation…

sorry, just frustrated and having a temper tantrum…

I’m a day late on this, but yesterday’s thread thrashing the regular season, after all of us were totally excited about that very same regular season is ridiculous. It was an excellent season for the league!

As Brian correctly wrote, nobody did “trash” the regular season, the argument was about the “82-game regular season” (subtle but substantial difference) not being much useful in predicting playoffs success, for many reasons (load management, very late trade deadline, tanking, injuries and so on).

With a few exceptions (one being the Thibodeau’s Knicks) good teams’ GM, coaches and players often “give up” games (in Steve Kerr words: “I know teams resting star players is terrible for the fans, but we have to think about the season’s real target”).

It was an honest discussion, with people explaining their different positions, not a flaming war…

Wow Geo, so sorry for these events. My two cents fwiw ( and best to consult with a lawyer if you can):
    1. Send an email to your supervisor advising them of how you had requested that said employee does not contact you due to the serious harm caused by that action and notwithstanding your request the employee continues to do so resulting in exacerbating the situation. I would think that under labor laws your company has to make reasonable accommodations to your disability, which would include having the employee cease from contacting you. Advise them that you will take all actions to protect your health under these circumstances.
    2. Stop taking the person’s calls, especially on your cell.

Zo was most definitely a top tier center and Hardaway was All-NBA 1st team in 1997.

    @Geo

Sorry to hear and first of all don’t let them shake your plans.

Alas it’s not a surprise they’re putting company’s needs over your health, that’s how companies often work.

    Just spitting some opinions,
consult your lawyer, try to keep things as “official” as you can, don’t answer to calls on your personal phone, there must be labor laws that protect your rights and they must stick strictly to it.

I think you’re only trying to have a fair discussion, maybe with if you trust your lawyer he can help get to some kind of agreement?

Settlement agreements are frequent here (for instance: they give you a certain sum, covering “x months” of salary, but you leave the place early) and I did some of them during my time as a union representative centuries ago, but US labor laws and practices are so different…

    Keep it strong Geo!

    thanks Bo 🙂

i speak with my VA psychiatrist tomorrow monring – my question:

    am i severely disabled?

    i have a 330% rating for a head injury…am i severely disabled?

my understanding is that part of that answer – lies in my ability to work

    and there it is

my big challenge…i’m just not strong enough to wanna do any more forms and doctors, fuck lawyers – except for present company…

    i love you 😛

next step for me would be to reach out to the VA employment assistance folks…

my company’s main employer is uncle sam…

i don’t wanna go out the way this is heading – i just wanna make sure i am sharing a reasonable/fair ask?

how many months to recoup: 2 maybe…then find me a role – reasonable to my condition – i have no idea what that would be right now – our library perhaps?

i speak with my VA psychiatrist tomorrow monring – my question:

    am i severely disabled?

    i have a 330% rating for a head injury…am i severely disabled?

my understanding is that part of that answer – lies in my ability to work

    There you go!

Don’t let them shake your balance my friend…

… and sometimes lawyers are a necessary evil 😉

i know right – sales folks, politicians, and lawyers – not exactly on everyone’s top ten fave other occupations…

i forgot who said it, maybe al swearengen – sometimes honest men lie, and sometimes liars are honest…some kind of shit like that…

“… and sometimes lawyers are a necessary evil 😉”

That would be Lady Raven, to a T…

Geo, hang in there. Better times ahead. Deep breaths, long walks, all those things that help to bring the blood pressure down and the panic attacks at bay.

If your company is trying to fuck you over, then by God are you severely disabled for legal purposes whether or not you actually are

    This is not game 7.

No way should we concede game 2 and go into Miami down 2 games. The idea that Miami will be a home game for us is silly. Yes, regular season that is the case. But playoffs? There will be Knicks fans there but it will still be a heat crowd. We can’t mess around tonight. If we want a chance to win this series, we have to win tonight.

OF course if Randle and/or Brunson really are still hurt, then don’t play them and maybe the kids can pull it out against the heat with no butler. But we should try to win this one.

I don’t think it’s a knock on the regular season itself, just as a barometer for playoff success.

It does most years, isn’t it? The lower seed outlier are just that, outliers, like Huston winning as a 5th or 6th seed in what was it, 1995? And they were the previous year’s champions.

Any other low seeds that won it all?

Anyway my point was that this regular season with its parity was great. You cannot ask for both parity and clear hierarchy, these are mutually exclusive (I think)

Geo, sorry to hear the company can’t do a thing as simple as preventing one specific employee from contact you. Like others said, don’t answer when he calls you. About the rest i’m not as knowledgeable as others here so i’ll just send you strength to endure this process.

i’m better, thanks all…crafted my correspondence…will speak with va shrink lady tomorrow, and afterward send off email, unplug, and check in with therapist to sort shit out and forget about it for a few days…

time to exhale…walk dog – whoever said that – bingo…listen, i love daughter, such a blessing having her in the house, the dog though, my goodness, exactly what the doctor ordered 🙂

***Zo was most definitely a top tier center***

Sure, if the first tier had 8 people in it.

    Shaq
    Olajuwon
    Robinson
    Sabonis
    Ewing
    Mutumbo
    Mourning
    Smits

I feel like the drop-off is severe enough to warrant at least one sub-tier. “On paper” Mourning is a lot closer to Smits than to Shaq. And that’s where this discussion began: on paper.

Hey, Geo — I think others have touched on this, but based on your descriptions, you really do need to reach out to a lawyer. There are a lot of legal protections for someone in your situation and you should definitely avail yourself of them.

Most likely, if you find a good one, it will be empowering in and of itself — but even if it isn’t, it’s still worthwhile.

As to your question, not legal advice, but generally and generically speaking you don’t have to “severely disabled” for the standard issue protections, just “disabled.” You’re also protected against age discrimination.

Most lawyers will do a consult for free — starting point is to find the best one for your situation; I’m sure there are tons of them in NoCal. Plenty of plaintiff-side employment lawyers work on contingency, too, if it ever comes to litigation. You aren’t at the litigation point yet, but even a “don’t fuck with my client” letter from a lawyer can impact a company.

Lone guy against corporation and HR is a tough battle to fight …. Impulse to just try to “work it out” is strong and sensible, but doesn’t always work.

Keep in mind: HR isn’t on your side. HR is on the company’s side. They may be cordial and nice, but ultimately they work for the company, not you.

It does most years, isn’t it?

Right, that’s why this year was being brought up as being different. But yes, if the Finals are the Nuggets versus the Celtics or the Sixers, then everything is going according to plan, but I am pretty sure that there’s never been an NBA playoffs where both a #1 seed, a #2 seed and a #3 seed all failed to make the second round (and a #4 seed, but, well, really, that’s fairly normal).

So sorry to hear that Geo. I’ll echo the sentiment that you should speak to a lawyer ASAP, and add, with the obligatory disclaimer that this is not legal advice, that generally speaking it always helps to have as much documentation as possible.

So in your case that would mean trying to find the initial emails or texts in which you said you didn’t want this person reaching out to you. If you don’t have that in writing, try to figure out the date(s) based on call logs or whatever else. Same goes for your employer’s responses. Ideally you want to be able to show a clear timeline of events.

Hang in there, the Knicks need you in midseason form.

Concur with documenting everything, Geo. If you meet with a lawyer, you’ll want to have pulled it all anyway.

Also, I’d keep/make notes of every contact you have with the company about this — as ridiculous and annoying as that might sound. Even to the point of now documenting things as best you can remember them — dates, times, content, etc. — even if the notes won’t technically be contemporaneous

If the company is run at all effectively and HR is involved, it’s virtually certain that they’re documenting and have been instructed to document.

Alex Shved was attacked by 5 men while leaving a restaurant after a loss in a Game-7.

Hooligans are not sports fans, they are fans of violence. Head injuries are always scary, i hope he can recover to 100%.

    Jimmy Butler is OUT tonight.

What a shame that we are still doomed.

Very excited for Knickerblogger posts to show up in Geo’s discovery productions

Geo, I am an acclaimed journalist who has appeared on television many times. I’d be happy for your legal team to fly me in to be a character witness.

because the trauma originates from a mugging, I’m hyper-vigilent…

shit, I’m a new yorker, who went though the military, got hit in the head – and forever I’m super paranoid…

pizza, chocolate and coca cola…maybe not the healthiest of food choices…is a nice balm…mmmmmm, chocolate chip cookies and cold milk from a glass bottle…

Put in your documentation that Early Bird thinks your co-worker is a douche bag.

trying to get folks to understand what it means to have a nervous breakdown, panic attacks that just go on and on…

it gets so terribly bewildering…my mind swirls like a whirlpool…hard to connect thoughts and ideas together, tougher to put words to it all…

I don’t drive in this condition…not sure if I’ll be laughing or crying 10 seconds in the future…

my body gets hives, I stutter, shake and fidget like a dope fiend…

super blessed to have finally reached out for help last year…

I’ve fallen to pieces, but, I better understand now how to put myself back together…one step at a time…
