Regarding the “stealing Kyrie” this offseason convo — let’s not forget Hubert was also the one who thought it was good time to buy low on Miles Bridges after he beat his girlfriend in front of their son.

I for one think some things are just not worth it.

At best he’s a tremendous but not particularly efficient scorer who is always injured and is a prime candidate to be hunted on the defensive end in the playoffs.

In reality – he’s an always-hurt anti-Semite conspiracy-theory-loving narcissist who cares not a whit about anyone but himself, lies constantly in the most self-serving manner (remember him disappearing from the Nets for 7 games in Jan 2021, presumably because he was upset about the Jacob Blake shooting or the capitol riot or whatever excuse he made up for his gullible adoring masses when in fact he was just out partying).

Funny how he was not getting vaccinated “in solidarity” with all the people who were fired/suspended for not getting vaccinated: “Just had to sit in that hot seat for a little bit and deal with it. The life of a martyr, bro.” Yet then completely forgot about his martyrdom as soon as he was allowed to play again, and really did think that as soon as the mayor changed, they would make a special exception for him (like everyone always does).

    Not. Worth. it.

I would rather relive the Jason Smith Jose Calderon Alexey Shved Knicks over and over Bill Murray-style than have to root for this guy.

Yeah, I’m not really understanding how basketball ability compensates for moral reprehensibility.

    Anyways…

    * Knicks bench playing well is huge for us

    * Deuce hitting shots makes him a good, maybe above average bench piece

    * Hartenstein looks like a super-sub right now, and would be a solid starter

    * Obi is still an awkward fit but hits his 3s

    * Maybe someone takes a chance on Fournier at the deadline now

    * Mitch comes back soon(?)

The more I think about it, Fournier’s post-game comments were the classiest I think I ever heard from a Knick player. Seems like a good guy. And when you have comments like that coming from a 30 minute opening night starter to an out of rotation player it tells you a lot about the locker room. Makes me reconsider if a minor trade to get better at the margin is worth it right now if it could disrupt the locker room.

    > I would rather relive the Jason Smith Jose Calderon Alexey Shved Knicks over and over Bill Murray-style than have to root for this guy.

As a Jets fan reading the rumors about Aaron Rodgers, I feel the same way. And as big of a douche that he is, he’s 1/100th the idiot that Kyrie is.

If the options are winning a Super Bowl with Rodgers or waiting 30 more years, I’ll take the latter.

Tonight is the classic trap game scenario. They’ve won 3 of 4 and 6 of their last 10. There’s also the impending trade deadline which can be a distraction. Hopefully we can take care of business, we really need this game for positioning prior to the all-star break. Philly will be looking for revenge, and UTA, BKN and ATL aren’t pushovers.

I also would like to get the trade deadline behind us, I’m pretty attached to everyone in the rotation and it would be hard to part with anyone, but alas. Of the rumored deals, Vanderbilt is the only guy that makes sense if the cost is not to high. OG is going to be overpriced, and unless the deal includes an overvalued RJ going out, I can’t see it being worth what TOR would ask.

“or waiting 30 more years, I’ll take the latter.”

Strong words–this would put the drought at 84 years. The Red Sox’ was 85 years!

Other than getting Fournier to a better destination for him, I don’t know why we’re in a rush to trade him. He’s good! Just not exactly what we need. If it takes an asset to move off him, what is the point unless we’re getting someone genuinely also good in return. Malik Beasley doesn’t seem like that guy to me.

Basically he’s just caught in a numbers game. Question -> I’m definitely one of the RJ-haters here, but would we be worse or better if the Fournier were in the starting lineup instead of RJ?

“As a Jets fan reading the rumors about Aaron Rodgers, I feel the same way. And as big of a douche that he is, he’s 1/100th the idiot that Kyrie is.

You must be pretending that, like Kyrie, Aaron Rogers is the fictional character created for clickbait….

As to Fournier, I agree with the accolades regarding his character and professionalism.

It must have been really hard for him to accept a demotion to a bench role behind a promising but (in his mind) inferior second year player, and I have no doubt that if he had been given the time to reconcile that, he’d have eventually adapted and have been doing what he did vs. Philly on a regular basis. He never really had a chance to establish a rhythm in his bench role, and/or to adapt to a “situational” role. You could infer that his mind wasn’t clear by the absolute bonehead plays he seemed to make and brick he put up nearly every time he played prior to Philly.

On the other hand, Fournier is a targetable defender even when he is 100% committed. What was most impressive to me from the Philly game and even the Clippers wasn’t his shooting but his defensive play. I alwys felt he could be better on D than he has shown.

If the FO doesn’t trade him, I hope he gets another look in a 10-man rotation at the expense of RJ’s minutes. If he can play “adequate” defense and make a few 3’s in 10-15 mpg, that’s a valuable piece come playoff time.

While I draw certain lines at crime and violence, I like and arguably even prefer iconoclasts, think clickbait and social media are stupid, have no psychic need whatsoever to virtue signal anything to anybody at any time, appreciate the complications of modern human beings, and like winning basketball and big time Garden playoff games.

Major league sports is no place for bourgeois timidity.

That pretty much answers the question of where I stand. Superstar got traded for peanuts, Knicks missed out … yet again. You are what your record says you are.

I’m honestly not sure we’re looking to move Fournier except to do good by him. If we do I believe we’re going to try to take back a similar contract to stay over the cap and use as trade fodder.

Robert Randolph reporting we’re close to finishing 2 deals. Is he trolling? Maybe, but it’s more fun to speculate

“Robert Randolph reporting we’re close to finishing 2 deals. Is he trolling? Maybe, but it’s more fun to speculate”

I realized I have a problem this morning when the first thing I did was look at HoopsHype Rumors and the second thing I did was look at Robert Randolph’s timeline. I see I am not alone. 🙂

Everybody’s free to have an opinion on Kyrie the player and/or Kyrie the man.

But why are we talking about the Knicks “missing out” on him when all the world (sports media and fans) know that the Nets wouldn’t never have traded him to us, exactly like they will never trade Durant to us?

Latrell Sprewell fucking outright assaulted a higher-on-the-org-chart coworker in the workplace, was given the opportunity at redemption, is now a prized member of the Knick “family,” and we’re supposed to get all Jersey Chardonnay party lemon-suck over Kyrie Irving?

    I think not.

I don’t believe the “Brooklyn will never trade anything to the Knicks” thing. Loser’s lament. Brooklyn has a basketball business to run and that business doesn’t involve trading players at market discounts to further some boycott. Everything has a price.

With Irving it appears not to be true iconoclastic thought but the faux unintelligible and uninformed version of that. That’s just how it comes off. Like every time he opens his mouth on issues my reaction is that his comments make no sense, aren’t well thought through and make him sound stupid and unlikable. But if it were that alone I wouldn’t care. I could still root for him in my team’s uniform. It’s the clear fact that the man doesn’t enjoy playing basketball, does everything he can to not play and get paid, disrupts his teams and usually does so at the most inopportune times. Which shows you he doesn’t give a shit about ball, team, winning. That to me is a different kind of attitude that makes me unable to root for him.

Edit: I will add a hypothetical to make my point clearer. Game 7 NBA finals. I believe that if Irving found it self serving in some way whether it be a political statement, personal issue, minor injury or a feeling of being disrespected in some way that he would sit out the game to make a point.

I’d want a 1st round pick to take Kyrie unless I had a deal in place to immediately trade him and get back more than I gave up to get him.

The only way I’d take him is we also brought back some combination JR Smith, Melo, Felton, Michael Beasley, Metta World Peace, and Rasheed Wallace. That might be worth the entertainment value.

“Edit: I will add a hypothetical to make my point clearer. Game 7 NBA finals. I believe that if Irving found it self serving in some way whether it be a political statement, personal issue, minor injury or a feeling of being disrespected in some way that he would sit out the game to make a point.”

And if that happened I’m guessing that certain posters would bring up Sandy Koufax as a defense of his “iconoclastic” decision…

Brooklyn has a basketball business to run and that business doesn’t involve trading players at market discounts to further some boycott. Everything has a price.

They did the same not trading Kyrie to the Lakers (on owner request) because it was Kyrie’s preferred destination.

Houston owner did the same when they traded Harden to the Nets instead of Philly (to spurn Morey).

I’m surprised a cynic like you can deny the pettiness of rich people 😉

When a movie needs to invent fake Hitler quotes because the real ones don’t have the right brand of Anti-semitism… I mean I guess that’s being iconoclastic

“I like and arguably even prefer iconoclasts”

This was written about someone who associated himself with Holocaust denial and then preferred not playing to apologizing.

“While I draw certain lines at crime and violence, I like and arguably even prefer iconoclasts, think clickbait and social media are stupid, have no psychic need whatsoever to virtue signal anything to anybody at any time…”

    virtue signalling (noun)

the public expression of opinions or sentiments intended to demonstrate one’s good character or social conscience or the moral correctness of one’s position on a particular issue.

    Oops.

“Brooklyn has a basketball business to run and that business doesn’t involve trading players at market discounts to further some boycott. Everything has a price.”

We hear about this kind of thing in the NBA *all the time.*

    https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2771868-kawhi-leonard-trade-rumors-gregg-popovich-rule-is-not-to-help-teams-like-lakers

    https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10064358-report-nets-joe-tsai-didnt-want-to-trade-kyrie-irving-to-lakers-prior-to-mavs-deal

Kyrie wasn’t available to us, plays the same position as arguably our best player, is older than that player, is far less reliable than that player, and is probably only a small upgrade over that player on the rare occasions his loose screws are temporarily tightened.

We really don’t need to talk about this! Deuce! Hart! Our two upcoming first rounders! Anything else!

let’s make this clear guys… kyrie was dealt for about the same thing as kawhi leonard who was also nothing more than a rental….

demar derozan.. jakob poeltl… a near future almost guaranteed late first…

dinwiddie… dfs…. a far in the future maybe pretty good first….

you could make an argument that raptors got a slightly better return but kawhi was also MUCH better than kyrie is now…

the return the nets got was exactly what you should be getting for a 3 month rental… which is why masai is trying to deal OG now before he has to do something similar who’s no where near kyrie…

In 2-3 years Deuce is going to be a starting-level Marcus Smart/Pat Bev type PG

    ————

Tankathon has us drafting score 1st 6’4″ combo guard Terquavion Smith, who at first glance is not a guy I want.

Kris Murray is our other projected pick who, again at a quick glance, I’d probably be high on even if his upside might not be there. He’d slot in great as a combo forward off the bench initially.

Kinda think we’ll end up packaging these picks to try and move up for a shot at a better player, unless the FO thinks their guy is going to fall.

Where we are currently in the NBA draft order, I’d love to pick up Kris Murray and Maxwell Lewis. That would really shore us up at forward given the inevitable Obi trade. I would also love packaging our picks and trying to move up for Sensabaugh if he’s out of reach.

    I had a dream.

In that dream the Knicks started using their 1st round picks to get size, lenght and athleticism, drafting their own OG (drafted 23rd), Siakam (drafted 27th), Vanderbilt (drafted 41st) instead of overpaying or being outbid for them…

    Then I woke up.

    Keels played last night.

    17pts on 18fgs. 1/3 from deep. 4rebs. 5ast. 2stls. 2TOs.

    Re: Keels

I’ve seen him play a couple of times (plus more frequent highlights), my take so far is that the G-League is a glorified pickup game and he looks like a mad gunner but…

…He’s 19 until August’s end, very very young and raw, a classic example of “two years away from being two years away”, but he has grown during the season (he was awful in the “showcase” part of G-League’s schedule, now he’s playing much better) and that’s an encouraging sign.

***Latrell Sprewell…was given the opportunity at redemption, is now a prized member of the Knick “family,”***

Kyrie stood on the court at TD Garden and gave Celtic fans the finger.

What else does a man need to do to prove his worth to Knick fans??

I definitely think Keels would’ve been helped by a few more years of college. Can’t complain about getting him in the 2nd rd or him wanting to take the money though.

I am shocked, shocked to see that E has endorsed an uninformed, offensive hatemonger who only shows up half the time

Kyrie stood on the court at TD Garden and gave Celtic fans the finger.

What else does a man need to do to prove his worth to Knick fans??

Donnie may be a hatemonger (when it comes to the Knicks), but at least he’s funny

    >Then I woke up.<

I assume you woke up about 4-5 years later. 😉

I think this team is a lot closer to contention than even the optimists thought at the start. I expected a bounce back year from Randle with the addition of Brunson and Brunson to help a lot since we had no PG at all last year, but both have exceeded my expectations. Mitch looks very good (when healthy). Grimes is growing into the role we envisioned. We have good bench depth (that IMO Thibs is misusing). Only RJ continues to disappoint. That has been a key draft misstep to go along with Knox, Frank, and even Obi with Hally sitting right there.

Add someone like OGA to replace RJ and we are not a serious contender yet, but no team in the east will want any part of us in the first round. They will know they are going to get all they can handle every night even if they win in the end (and many might lose to us).

If I could get OGA now, I'd way rather have that than 3 mediocre pot luck shots at the draft and waiting years for development. We’d still have plenty of ammo left.

“Donnie may be a hatemonger (when it comes to the Knicks), but at least he’s funny”

Yeah, that was a legitimate LOL..

I can’t think of many trades I’d like that are reasonable. I advocated RJ for OG back in June, but that will never happen now. The other marginal trades don’t make a lot of sense – Obi for Vanderbilt? Fournier for Beasley? They aren’t going to move the needle, and I’d rather keep the assets for something meaningful in the off-season.

    @MikeVorkunov
MSG Sports President/COO David Hopkinson said MSG would consider selling off a share of New York Knicks or New York Rangers.

We are so lucky they could sell to Donald Trump… 🙂

One man’s “iconoclast” is another person’s “asshole.” I’m with frank on acquiring Kyrie Irving. Easy hard pass.

As for the Jets not getting Aaron Rodgers, I’m too old to wait 30 more years for the Jets to get in the Super Bowl… I’d rather they not get him, but I don’t think he’s in the KI class of narcissist. But I could be wrong.

I don’t subscribe to the currently hip “the Jets are just a good QB away from the Super Bowl theory” as well.

The Fournier/Obi for Vanderbilt/Beasley trade would probably improve the team a bit since we don’t play Fournier at all and deploy Obi sub-optimally, but I do think Obi is the highest upside player in the deal so I’m principally opposed.

I can’t say I’d be outraged though. It’s probably just not happening for Obi here and you could argue it’s thus sensible to trade him before he loses further value.

I would NOT add a first under any circumstances because Vanderbilt and Beasley are just not needle movers, so if there’s a trade I’m guessing I will in fact be mad.

    > You must be pretending that, like Kyrie, Aaron Rogers is the fictional character created for clickbait….

Created by … himself with his own words? I had very literal tolerance for anti-vax idiots pre-covid. (Fuck Jenny McCarthy). But his shtick of Tucker Carlson-esque “if we can’t ask questions, it’s propaganda” when he has zero scientific credentials. Why does he think he has a seat at the table with his high school diploma?

Anti-intellectualism, along with bigotry and sociopathy, are probably the triumvirate of human misery and suffering. The first fueling the other two.

Latrell Sprewell got into a fight with his boss. I’d say that’s a more forgivable moral offense than let’s say promoting anti-Semitism.

I’m all for workplace fights and I’ve been in a couple of them.

Some people think they can say anything, including insults to family members or racist/anti-something comments, because they’re in a workplace (or higher-on-the-org-chart).

    No, they can’t 😉

“Why does he think he has a seat at the table with his high school diploma?”

Congratulations — you just neatly summarized why wide swaths of people can’t stand arrogant leftists.

    “Anti-intellectualism”

You just proved yourself an exemplar of same. Credentialism is not intellectualism — an actual intellectual would understand this.

“Latrell Sprewell got into a fight with his boss.”

Latrell Sprewell committed an unprovoked assault on his boss in the workplace, choking him so much it left welts and scratches.

“I’d say that’s a more forgivable moral offense than let’s say promoting anti-Semitism.”

You also think non-college graduates should have no voice in public affairs, which is the worst moral offense of the three.

My “intellectual credentials” most likely blow away most peoples’ here and most peoples’ on the internet, but I was smart enough to learn along the way that it isn’t the credentials that matter; it’s the quality of the ideas. Those credentials standing alone bestow no moral worth whatsoever. Literally none. Zero. And the lack of them bestows no moral inferiority whatsoever.

Now, with that said, there are some virtuous things that can go along with obtaining the credentials — hard work, study, accepting challenges, perseverance, etc., so they’re not entirely irrelevant. But those virtues are found in any number of places outside the lecture hall and the library. Anyone actually into “pro-intellectualism” would understand this easily.

“Created by … himself with his own words? I had very literal tolerance for anti-vax idiots pre-covid. (Fuck Jenny McCarthy). But his shtick of Tucker Carlson-esque “if we can’t ask questions, it’s propaganda” when he has zero scientific credentials. So true. Overlooking Kyrie’s character for the sake of wins is one thing. Sugarcoating his transgressions as being overblown and/or not of his own making is another. And insinuating (or outright stating) that the posters here who are utterly revolted by the thought of Kyrie on this team are not capable of reckoning the difference is pretty lame.

The posters here who are “utterly revolted by the thought of Kyrie on this team” were ginned up by the internet and are putting on a show for the internet.

If they weren’t “utterly revolted” by this, they’d find something else to be “utterly revolted” by, and put on much the same show. It’s how the ‘net rolls.

***Latrell Sprewell committed an unprovoked assault on his boss***

Clearly you’ve never had a boss tell you to put a little mustard on your passes before.

let’s not forget Hubert was also the one who thought it was good time to buy low on Miles Bridges after he beat his girlfriend in front of their son.

Indeed I was. I think it’s a good idea now, too. It would be nothing short of a coup to get Kyrie and Miles this summer for peanuts.

I am pretty consistent on this: I neither expect nor demand athletes behave by my (or any) morality code. I’m not rooting for the individuals. I’m rooting for the ball to go in the basket.

PS – you were the guy who celebrated when the US traded a war criminal for a mercenary ballplayer who was helping Putin sportswash slavery and genocide, right? We all have our quirks.

“Clearly you’ve never had a boss tell you to put a little mustard on your passes before.”

Carlesimo didn’t even have a law degree either.

I suppose it’s true that I got the idea that Kyrie Irving is an anti-semite from “the internet,” because Kyrie Irving’s personal, verified Twitter account is in fact on the internet.

If Miles Bridges pays his debt to society and expresses remorse, why shouldn’t he get the chance to ply his trade and redeem himself?

    As Latrell Sprewell did.

This is, like, basic elementary shit. Anyone not hopelessly marinated in internet outrage understands this without even trying.

    can’t stand arrogant leftists.

But who is being arrogant? The Leftist who generally will listen to experts and scientists when it comes to covid and vaccines or the NBA basketball player who doesn’t have a PHD in immunology thinking that his opinion about vaccines is just as valid as a doctor’s?

Or let’s put the shoe on the other foot. The Mavs are tied up in a playoff game with 30 seconds left and the coach calls timeout. The coach is in the middle of drawing up a play for Kyrie to take the winning shot, when a Doctor who is attending the game walks up to the bench and interrupts the coach and starts telling the players why this play is dumb and they should draw up a play for Hardaway instead.

Do you think Kyrie would say “you know what? This guy, who has never played basketball in his life…his opinion is just as valid as mine. We should do what he says.”

“The posters here who are “utterly revolted by the thought of Kyrie on this team” were ginned up by the internet and are putting on a show for the internet.

If they weren’t “utterly revolted” by this, they’d find something else to be “utterly revolted” by, and put on much the same show. It’s how the ‘net rolls.”

I’m very excited to be day drinking G&Ts in E’s mind. Now contemplating making it a reality…

And the person who consistently does the ‘utterly revolted’ show is, in fact, E. Because that’s how a net troll rolls.

But why are we talking about the Knicks “missing out” on him when all the world (sports media and fans) know that the Nets wouldn’t never have traded him to us

Only E is doing that. I accept that we couldn’t have acquired him from Brooklyn.

But now the Nets are out of the picture and he’s going to be a free agent in three months. He’s worth mentioning because he’s very likely going to be our top target this summer.

What’s not worth doing is all the contemptuous, nauseating virtue signaling. We can all agree he comes with baggage. We know who would make the move and who wouldn’t. ‘Nuf said.

Clearly you’ve never had a boss tell you to put a little mustard on your passes before.

u sure you’re allowed to quote isiah’s deposition under your non disparagement clause?

Can’t we just not want Kyrie because we don’t like him? He’s corny and a pseudo intellectual and selfish.

Sprewell fucked up big time. He was suspended for an entire season for it (and didn’t get paid for the games he missed). He came to the Knicks and never had an issue with his coaches or teammates ever again. Not the same at all.

I’m all for giving player’s second chances and generally, hubert, I agree. I will overlook a lot. But Kyrie’s been given multiple chances with multiple teams and his behavior has gotten worse, not better.

    Plus he’s just annoying.

Why are we talking about nonsensical Kyrie Irving scenarios instead of kvetching about how we could’ve drafted Cam Thomas with the incinerated pick?

“But now the Nets are out of the picture and he’s going to be a free agent in three months. I mentioned him because he’s very likely going to be our top target this summer.”

Hubert, I’m not sure I agree with this. Partly it’s my own bias toward taller guards who can score AND guard. Like, say, Haliburton. I think if we have a short, defensively limited point guard already, putting the same thing in the shooting guard position would make us a lot of fun on offense and a complete shit-show on D. Assuming Kyrie doesn’t go off the rails before the season’s over (there’s a bet for you), I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s discussion. But I don’t think it’s a great move.

That’s above and beyond the fact that I’d rather have Spree choke me out than have Kyrie on the team, regardless of whether I’m drunk or sober.

“He’s worth mentioning because he’s very likely going to be our top target this summer.”

Very likely. Because you have some evidence for that, right?

    Nah. Just trollin’ away…

“Why does he think he has a seat at the table with his high school diploma?”

Congratulations — you just neatly summarized why wide swaths of people can’t stand arrogant leftists.

Yes, I’m arrogant for insisting that my physician passed the boards. I’m arrogant that my attorney passed the bar. I’m arrogant that I want to exist in a structure whose blueprints were stamped by a licensed engineer.

What an arrogant credentialist I am.

Yes, I’m arrogant for insisting that my physician passed the boards. I’m arrogant that my attorney passed the bar. I’m arrogant that I want to exist in a structure whose blueprints were stamped by a licensed engineer.

Thanks Jowles, you said this better than I would have. We can all agree that credentials are imperfect, but without them the authority on everything becomes Joe Rogan. Or Kyrie Irving. Coincidentally or not, today’s news suggest they’d find substantial common ground.

Because you have some evidence for that, right?

    Actually, I do!

Exhibit A: Kyrie Irving will be the best free agent available this summer, and no one comes close.

Exhibit B: 20 plus years of James Dolan trying to nab the biggest free agent on the market.

Exhibit C: Leon Rose, who was brought here for one reason: to get a star.

Exhibit D: the long list of shady motherfuckers who Dolan has hired, rehired, and stood by.

Now would you like to present your evidence that James Dolan wouldn’t pursue an attainable star over character concerns?

Hubert, the evidence would be that our trash human of an owner’s defining characteristic, even above any and all star-fuckery and/or devotion to fellow trash humans, is that he will hold a goddamn grudge forever and a day. I cannot imagine any circumstance under which Guitar Jimmy would be willing to bring in Kyrie after Kyrie steered himself and KD to the Nets and utterly humiliated Dolan and his team before the basketball world.

Here’s a video I saw yesterday of people hating arrogant leftists:

Damn that woman had a baby in the front seat of her car while she was complaining about not being able to drink and drive.

Having thoroughly enjoyed that, I do object to the general practice where we find the most stupid people on the other side of the argument and present them as if they are the standard bearers. I mean, all you guys have thoughtful reasons for not wanting to Kyrie. How would you like it if I ignored them and pretended all of you were just like Z-Man?

Hubert, that’s so depressing (outlining why Dolan would chase Kyrie).

Okay, it’s not normally a thing that should be done, but because this whole thread is so depressing, here’s the funniest thing I’ve read today. In the hopes that it will lighten the mood…

“And, as you heard, this balloon was the size of three buses. I love measuring things in buses. And for the rich people out there who don’t know what a bus is, they’re those big yellow vehicles that bring Matt Gaetz’s girlfriends to school.” — Chelsea Handler

How would you like it if I ignored them and pretended all of you were just like Z-Man?

oh now you’re just begging for it Hubie

I cannot imagine any circumstance under which Guitar Jimmy would be willing to bring in Kyrie after Kyrie steered himself and KD to the Nets and utterly humiliated Dolan and his team before the basketball world.

I find two faults with this argument:

    1. It’s all conjecture. Did he feel humiliated? This is a guy who plays live shows as the worst frontman in musical history. Did he blame Kyrie for it? He fired Mills and Perry; seems like maybe he thought it was their fault.

    2. It conflates Durant and Kyrie. Durant humiliated the Knicks. Kyrie was expected to sign for Brooklyn as soon as it became clear Ainge wasn’t going to offer Kyrie his money.

If anything, Dolan’s pettiness would push him towards signing Kyrie. It’s an opportunity to humiliate the Nets and put Kevin Durant in his “not cool” place.

it’s the quality of the ideas

Sure. And the people who are best able to evaluate the quality of those ideas are people with an education. Controversial, I know, but like Jowles days, I’d prefer to cross bridges designed by engineers as opposed to people who saw a documentary about it and are too stupid and narcissistic to understand that their uniformed opinion is both worthless and harmful to those who believe what they have to say and die under the rubble of a collapsed pile of concrete

All I know for sure is that if instead of going for Carlesimo’s throat Latrell had burned some sage and then three weeks off to clear his head we’d all have been a lot more confused. I mean, we’ve all had mustard rage. It’s relatable on a visceral level.

“Hubert, the evidence would be that our trash human of an owner’s defining characteristic, even above any and all star-fuckery and/or devotion to fellow trash humans, is that he will hold a goddamn grudge forever and a day. I cannot imagine any circumstance under which Guitar Jimmy would be willing to bring in Kyrie after Kyrie steered himself and KD to the Nets and utterly humiliated Dolan and his team before the basketball world.”

I said the same thing yesterday, Alan. Didn’t register.

Hubert takes the prize for strangest rebuttal of an opinion of what is likely to happen in the future: it’s conjecture.

    Love this thread.

No Mo Bamba tonight, which hopefully means no “Let’s trade for Mo Bamba” after the game.

Going out on a limb here (Lady Raven says I shouldn’t do any work today, so it’s either post or drink E’s gin). I’m going to predict that Barrett will become a quite cromulent, above-replacement-level player by end of year. I think his hideous last game was flu-symptom induced (note to self, don’t play a professional sport while sick), and he was trending upward, albeit slowly.

Having said that, he still sucks, and I reserve the right to poke fun at his brain farts.

Also while on the topic, and because the logic of this statement matches much of the thread so far, I give you Thibs in the NYT pontificating on our overall lack of credentials in terms of knowing who sucks on D (would a Masters in Switching be enough?):

‘Much of the blame for the Knicks’ defensive woes has been placed on fourth-year pro RJ Barrett, but coach Tom Thibodeau pushed back on that notion.

“The way it works, defensively, it’s five guys working together, and the people that are tracking things, there’s no context to it,” Thibodeau said. “You don’t know whose responsibility it is to switch, you don’t know whose responsibility it is to show, you don’t know if there is a responsibility to stay down. You don’t know any of that.”

Sure. And the people who are best able to evaluate the quality of those ideas are people with an education.

Ahem, I was told by my personal-trainer (now ex-)friend that he knows how to read scientific papers on strength training so he is every bit as qualified to speak about COVID as my attending cardiologist friend who spent 8 years in med school and another 4 in academic fellowships. Fucking credentialists, am I right?

He said I was a fool for defering to her expertise. I said he was a fool for not practicing medicine with that big brain of his.

Bernie, I’m presenting my conjecture as conjecture. Alan’s presenting his as a fact that happened in the past. You can spot the difference, right?

Moving on…I don’t fault Thibs for statements like that; I think his players probably see it as having their backs. In contrast, look at the Sixers – Doc is so quick to throw shade on his own guys it is kind of shocking

I said the same thing yesterday, Alan. Didn’t register.

Oh, it registered. As horse shit.

“He said I was a fool for defering to her expertise. I said he was a fool for not practicing medicine with that big brain of his.”

Obviously your PT was a fictional character created for clickbait…

On the other hand, Thibs keeps playing RJ a lot of minutes, so maybe he actually believes that

So two questions. First, if our centers guard Wendell Carter et al., and Julius bodies up Paulo, who the fuck guards 6’10” Franz Wagner? Please don’t tell me it’s 6’6″ dehydrated RJ or 6’5″ Grimes…

Second, Terrence Ross or Jonathan Isaacs for the Lord Sumner award?

“Oh, it registered. As horse shit.”

You mean like the vapid self-serving rationale you will fabricate when the “very likely” Kyrie Project doesn’t materialize?

Obviously your PT was a fictional character created for clickbait…

The final straw for me was him reposting on social media an Israeli article from a news source (whose author he couldn’t identify, because that’s what far-right-wing troll farms do) about how FIFA was suppressing information on sudden on-pitch cardiac arrests of hundreds of players around the globe. I said, “Oh, wow, so you learned Hebrew now, too?”

Then I deleted the rest of my social media, and am better off for it.

“Then I deleted the rest of my social media, and am better off for it.”

Well as least you’ve been spared from all the clickbait responsible for the unfortunate demonization of poor Kyrie…

“First, if our centers guard Wendell Carter et al., and Julius bodies up Paulo, who the fuck guards 6’10” Franz Wagner? Please don’t tell me it’s 6’6″ dehydrated RJ or 6’5″ Grimes…”

Franz Wagner is listed at 6’9″ and averages 4.4 reb per 36. He’s good but I’m not all that worried about him going off. And who is HE going to guard?

“Second, Terrence Ross or Jonathan Isaacs for the Lord Sumner award?”

True, either guy could go off, especially Ross. But hopefully we will remember it as the Deuce McBride game…

Speaking of “not materializing”, how is your theory that Thibs knows the shooting tendencies of all 450 NBA players and has devised a notoriously complex defensive system that forces players to take the wide open 3PAs that they’re bad at making holding up in the absence of Mitch?

Would be cool if Adam Silver decides that Kyrie will take Steph’s starting spot in the Western Conference now that he’s in playing for Dallas and he picks Brunson and Siakam as a substitutes for Kyrie and KD in the Eastern Coneference.

Leon should just take one of those two 2nd Rounders from Dallas and send Cam Redish to Brooklyn.

True, either guy could go off, especially Ross. But hopefully we will remember it as the Deuce McBride game…

ross was dropped from the rotation a couple weeks ago

“Speaking of “not materializing”, how is your theory that Thibs knows the shooting tendencies of all 450 NBA players and has devised a notoriously complex defensive system that forces players to take the wide open 3PAs that they’re bad at making holding up in the absence of Mitch?”

    Interesting parallel:

Kyrie: I know more about medicine and immunology than the most highly regarded immunologists in the country.

Hubert: I know more about coaching defense than one of the most highly regarded defensive coaches ever to work an NBA sideline.

    It all makes sense now.

“If we could get Bones or Bey for Cam that would be hilarious because the whole incineration affair would turn into an all’s well that ends well (I don’t think this is going to happen).”

    That would be funny…

“ross was dropped from the rotation a couple weeks ago”

ptmilo’s analog on Sixerblogger.net said something similar a couple of days ago when someone fretted about the Evan Fournier game…

They will look at Ross’s career stats against the Knicks and resurrect him and he will go 4/5 from 3 in the 3rd quarter to stretch Orlando’s lead to 15.

Don’t ask me how I know.

Joakim Noah drafted Quentin Grimes to his rising stars team… I have no idea what’s going on with that format now, but apparently they have 4 different teams?

Thibs is gonna be calling Noah every 5min to yell at him

The [rising stars] format was slightly altered in 2023. 28 players are still selected, but the poll consists of 21 NBA rookies and sophomores, and 7 NBA G League players (not just limited to NBA G League Ignite). The 21 NBA players will be drafted into three teams led by Pau Gasol, Joakim Noah, and Deron WIlliams, while the 7 NBA G League players form a single team led by Jason Terry. The Final Target Score for the semifinal games is lowered from 50 to 40.[1]

This is what Wikipedia says. I’m not sure why you would have a G-league team in the mix, but they do.

    @Rachel__Nichols
Kyrie Irving in his first press conference since the trade says he felt “disrespected” by the Nets and wishes that he had paid more attention going in to who were the people running the franchise. Said he felt “wanted” by the Mavericks.

This is just incredible. Just incredible. What a guy.

Actually, it’s been a consistent refrain from Nets players that they don’t like the Nets management. Durant and Harden said it before Kyrie did.

Wow, a player who didn’t get paid says he feels disrespected. That never happens.

Noah Kirkwood was pretty pissed when he left, too.

“I signed a 10 say contract and they waived me 6 days later. That’s four fucking days they still owe me. I didn’t go to Harvard for this shit!”
    -N Kirkwood, 10/12/2022

Yeah, having 2 bad defenders seems to be the team’s limit without Mitch in there. Mitch seemed okay holding it down with all 3 in. Be curious to see the Mitch & 3 stats, or maybe Mitch & 3 stats with a 5th guy who can play defense (basically anyone except Fournier).

Supposedly we’re no longer pursuing OG

Spencer Dinwiddie: “We may not be the best trade package, but we’re the best looking. And the Nets needed some help in that department.”

Okay, this is a much better press conference 😆

“Speaking of “not materializing”, how is your theory that Thibs knows the shooting tendencies of all 450 NBA players and has devised a notoriously complex defensive system that forces players to take the wide open 3PAs that they’re bad at making holding up in the absence of Mitch?”

I’m not sure why you keep harping on this.

    1. There is technology being used in the NBA that can track this. Mark Cuban was the person that made me aware of it. Years back he said the Mavs used it and he knew within a few square feet what spots on the court were better than others. They used it for specific players to help find strength and weaknesses and try to force players to their weaknesses and know more about their own player’s strengths.

    2. You don’t have to know every single detail about every single player for something like this to be effective. You just have to know things like whether the player prefers going left or right, shooting from the left corner or right corner, left wing or right wing, straight on etc.. It’s all fairly standard scouting and data that can then be used to help defensively at the margin.

Any coach that focuses heavily on defense, has the data, and prepares his players well is going to go over things like this to gain little edges.

I’m really worried about tonight’s game.

    1. The Magic are much better than their overall record indicates. They are 6-4 over their last 10, and 17-13 over their 30. Granted, I picked a starting point that maximized the results, but that’s not a bad team over 30 games.

    2. The Knicks are coming off a huge win. They could let down a bit or be taking this team lightly when they shouldn’t be. This could be a tough game.

    3. RJ may be back. That’s the scariest of all. He could easily go 6-18 with 4 TOs and snatch a loss out of the jaws of victory.
