2016-17 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Celtics

This should be an easy game to get the tank back on its treads, but the Knicks have also played the Celtics fairly well this season for some reason, so I’m not totally confident.

But, really, odds are they’re losing this one, which is good.

Let? Go Knick!

  1. I know we need to lose, but rooting for a loss to the goddamn Celtics on our home floor?

    Probably better off not watching.

  2. Anyone who isn’t watching the Yankees instead is truly a glutton for punishment.

Rose news is good, no way he’s back now right?

  3. Classic Rose.

Who would have guessed he’d miss ~20 games due to injury.

    :D

  4. I’m actually worried now that the Knicks will re-sign Rose to a cheaper contract cause of his knee injury and make it seem like it’s a good value signing.

  5. Well certainly no other team is going to want to sign him. So you may be right…

    :(

  6. Funniest thing about the Rose news is now even if he had been great all season and we were in the playoffs…the trade would still be bad. The optimists took a pretty serious L here.

  7. It’s weird how the optimists weren’t optimistic about Seth Curry, who has been pretty damn good and an excellent value for Dallas this year. But The Rotting Husk of Derrick Rose? Sure, why not give up young, cheap players for him?

Whenever those few well-spoken-but-consistently-wrong posters start voicing their opinions on matter of value, take whatever they say, reverse it, and throw your life savings at that prop bet.

  8. Well at least of we do the dumb thing and resign Rose I’m thinking it would be likely to a low budget one year contract so he can”prove himself” healthy to the rest of the league.

  9. Phil is still stupid enough to resign Rose.

The bright side is that the odds of resigning him for the mega max are lower now.

  10. With all our possible pg possibilities. I’m thinking what about Dante Exum? I will take risk on him and I think we could get him cheaper. Oquinn for exum? He is young and tall pg and I think he fits the triangle. If we will not play triangle I think he can be a multi dimensional player.

  11. hopefully PHIL just retires.

clearly delusional. triangle is extremely outdated and can’t win in today’s league.

its just hilarious sasha got contracts just because of the triangle

  12. Anyway, we all think we can be a better gm than Phil, but in our fantasy league which will end today there will only be one champion. What I’m just saying I think we think that we are better in assembling players but just like my result in our fantasy league, I finished 10/16.
Yes that’s just fantasy but I think it’s harder to build a championship team than we all thought.

  13. If every team started from scratch every year and there was a “serpentine” draft like there is in most fantasy leagues, you’d probably see a lot of parity. The same teams wouldn’t win year after year.

But pro sports aren’t like that. They’re “keeper” leagues.

It’s very hard to build a championship team, but any person with a half a brain and an internet connection could tell you the Rose trade and Noah signing were bad moves without the benefit of hindsight. There are plenty of GMs who I fully believe are better at their jobs than I or any other poster here would be (except DRed, of course), but Phil isn’t one of them.

  15. LOL at Vujacic taking the technical FT (with KP and Lee on the court) and of course bricking it.

  16. Ok, it sucks to see people get injuries especially knees. But is there a possibility his career is over?
Any predictions to where he would go or what team would sign him?

Back to Thibs and the Wolves?
    The Kings?
    Clippers?

  17. Also, no fucking way on Earth Phil resigns Derrick Rose. He might not be the greatest GM but he’s at least half intelligent enough to realize after Noah that one broken down hasbeen with a multiyear deal is more than enough.

  18. So I’m pretty sure Ndour should be first to be cut if we ever need another roster spot

I doubt it too but I’m done allowing myself to actually be surprised by the Knicks’ stupidity. I didn’t think they’d trade for Andrea Bargnani (or Derrick Rose, for that matter) but they always find creative ways to be incompetent.

Amazingly, the Bargnani trade happened immediately after the 54-win season ended. Pretty substantial proof that the Knicks lucked into that playoff-challenger team, and had absolutely no idea what made the team good (Chandler) and what makes teams bad (Bargnani).

Jackson picks a high-ceiling player (Hernangomez) and then trades last year’s best player (Lopez) for one of the league’s worst (Rose). All signs of a gross-incompetence sundae with luck sprinkles on top.

  21. How does a 7’3″ human play 28 minutes in a basketball game and get one rebound

  22. When is the draft lottery? I can feel it. Our record will be number 8 in the lottery but we will move up. Top 3. If the league rewards Cleveland, its time for New York. Make it happen.

  23. ILCOOLBP is on a verge of winning our fantasy league 6-3. Who’s that guy thouh?

    Theo

  24. Fantasy leagues are completely different. In some team builds in fantasy Rose was a + player.

Now another question. Has there ever been a former MVP not make the Hall of Fame? Rose will be the first

  25. Yes I agree. D rose is never near the MVP level and a far cry to be a hall of famer. But drove for vet minimum or may midlevel exemption? Is he valuable at that price or it’s still a no?

  26. there will probably always be teams desperate for scoring who would take a shot at him on a cheap contract.

  27. Wow, Baron von Rose, panzer commander. Once missing in action, found, but now wounded in action. Give him his Wound Badge and send him on his way.

I didn’t like the Rose trade from the get go, but his poor play this year was instrumental in the Knicks ending up with a good lottery spot, so there is that…
    :-)

  28. should go back to Chicago and play out his career over there as a backup to round out his legacy

  29. That way when he disappears because he needs to “go to Chicago” he’ll already be there

  30. I’m llcoolbp, and it’s not in the bag yet. The fantasy title will, come down to the wire this evening. Closely contested in several categories with games still left. At least the fantasy league gave me something to look forward to during this putrid season.

  31. By the way I’m facing off against “bajram bucks”. Anyone know which poster he is here?

    Also I’m definitely not “Theo”.

I’m a 42 year old guy born and raised in queens who now lives near syracuse ny and I’ve been lurking and sometimes posting since 2009. Mostly lurking.

  32. Congratulations to our Knickerblogger fantasy league 2017 champion-
    Ilcoolbp.
Also to 2nd place – bar jam bucks
And third place a drose by any other.
Thank to all who participated. Til next season and hope it will be a better like also for the Knicks.
Hope our admin here in the blog will greet the champ.
    Thanks

  33. Damn it, it was a very bitter end to my fantasy season. Started better than I thought, then the injuries derailed my season, specially after Kevin Love went down with a knee. But I’m glad I could battle with you guys once again. Next year, maybe two leagues, or 2 “injured player” spots (so many injuries…)?

Thank you, Giannis, Trevor Booker, McConnell, Beverley, Ariza and, for a while, Ilyasova and Muscala.

Reggie Jackson and Chandler Parsons can go to Fantasy hell.

  34. Four out of our last five games are home games. I don’t like that.

On the plus side, four of our last five opponents are jockeying for playoff position. We have remaining: CHI, WAS, @MEM, TOR, PHI. The only game that’s completely meaningless in terms of playoff positioning for both teams is the season finale against the 76ers.

It would be wonderful to see the Knicks “run the table” and lose all five. Of course they will win at least one of these and finish one game ahead of Philly, who will then win the lotto and get the #1 pick. Some other team will jump over the Knicks and the Knicks will end up picking 7th. That’s just how we roll.

  35. There was no way the Knicks were bringing Rose back before the injury, they’re certainly not bringing him back now. Jackson is not a good GM, but on this one specific point, I trust him not to bring Rose back.

  36. I am the knickerblogger 2017 fantasy champ! Thanks to bajram bucks for a good fight, and to all the other guys in the league.

Too bad all I have is a fantasy when the reality is so much worse. Here’s to hoping we can lose some more games, and then the ping pong balls can fall our way.
