In a way, the series reminded me of when the Jets win the Super Bowl ( a long time ago). They were heavy underdogs because people just assumed the AFC was the weaker conference and it hadn’t sunk in to the world how good the Jets were.

I have to say this here, because anywhere filled with Jets fans I get downvoted to hell. But here is the mountain I will die on:

Joe Namath was not a great NFL QB, and doesn’t deserve to be in the HOF based on his skill. The Jets won SB III on their defense (forced 3 INT) and running game (Snell 120yds/1TD), not Namath (17/28 206 0/0). Namath supporters argue that his poor stats (173TD 220INT!) are from his downfield game or the era, but other QBs in the same time period have better TD/INT ratio (Tark, Lamonica, Griese, Dawson, Jurgenson) and yds/att. Joe had 2-3 good seasons, and the rest was somewhere between average and bad.

You can say he was valuable as a figure who helped legitimized the AFL, was the face of the league, etc. But he was an average NFL QB over the course of his career.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
