There’s an interesting level of double-douche-irony over LeBron, who has made quite the living off of people’s civic pride, Tone-deaf dissing multiple cities, including his own Cleveland. May his retirement tour next year consist primarily of boos.

And now they’ve shut down Austin. This season has really collapsed into an endless series of pathetic, unsightly, and largely uninteresting conspiracy theories. Makes me want to teleport to a Waffle House.

And RIP Tom Valenti, who I was buds with since 4th grade….

Raven, used to go to Ouest when it was open. Great earthy food ( like my favorite chef Jonathan Waxman) by a master chef. Sorry for your loss.

LeBron the public personality still hasn’t quite caught up to LeBron the basketball player. At least he’s stable, as far as we know, compared to other adults who were superstars since childhood.

Thoughts on Stat making the Hall of Fame? The basketball hall has a much lower barrier to entry compared to ones for most other sports. And Stat was great in Phoenix. But still, doesn’t feel quite right? Maybe?

Alan, he’s a borderline case at best. Not really worthy in my opinion, but not outrageous.

I do remember seeing Amar’e as a rookie (I think) at MSG and being wowwed by how athletic he was, rising over everyone else for massive dunks. And for a few short months after we acquired him, he was a legit MVP candidate, scoring at will from everywhere but 3.

Comparing Mitch Richmon and STAT (in) to Shawn Kemp, Brad Daugherty, Tom Chambers, and Shawn Marion (Out), it seems like games played, the Rookie of the Year award, and All-NBA selections matter; perhaps you also need a minimum of 5 All-Star appearances.

Ppl complain about T-Mac because he was derailed by age 30, but he had racked up more accomplishments than anyone above by then.

Someone older than me will need to explain how good Michael Cooper was, because I do not get that one.

Michael Cooper was an extraorinary tough defensive player and a very good 3pt shooter for his day. Rarely missed a game, and played starter’s minutes off the bench for one of the best teams in history. Would probably be great in today’s game. He was an integral part of 5 championship teams. Definitely benefitted from team success, and I don’t think of him as HOF-level though. But he was really, really good. Gave Larry Bird fits.

If one considers that defense is half the game, Shawn Marion is every bit the HOFer that STAT is.

At 6-6, he was one of the best non center defenders in the history of the game. He was the primary match up vs Michael Jordan and Larry Bird (He was known even giving up3 inches to be Bird’s toughest match up).

He was 5 time defensive first team all NBA and 3 times defensive second team all NBA and defensive player of the year once. The defensive side of the ball should get some respect.

He was a good offensive player, but with Magic, Jabbar, Worthy and Byron Scott, he wasn’t a prime option.
